Is Caesar dressing REALLY a no no? I am craving a Chicken Caesar Salad and there are so many "don't have Caesar dressing because of blah blah blah...". There is such a large amount of fear mongering and as a ftm, I want to make sure baby is okay however still be able to enjoy good meals.
@zombiehoohaa I had no idea it was even a no no.. I’m still going to eat it lol. What’s the problem with it, anchovies? Or some kind of cheese? I’d be weary at fancy restaurants in general because they’re more likely to use something unpasteurized, but really, I need Caesar salads in my life.
@acunamatada apparently it has something to do with raw/undercooked egg and salmonella. Some say most commercial dressings are safe however to avoid as a precaution...I've been eating deli meat, not daily. However I do limit this. Some things I'm just having a harder time grasping the "don't eat it".
@zombiehoohaa it's the raw egg, just ask wherever you get it from if it has egg in it, or check ingredients if store bought, and you'll be fine. I am willing to bet Panera Bread's chicken caesar salad is safe, and they probably have the ingredient info online to check.
@zombiehoohaa I'd be more worried about the romaine in the salad right now. I ate a small amount of Caesar salad from BDubs yesterday when my office ordered it for lunch and I'm like
On the topic of caesar dressing, my confession is that I ate a semi cooked yolk the other day... I agree that most commercial sold dressings are ok, i'd be more concerned with fancy restaurants. I've asked them before. My MIL makes caesar salad without the egg so its possible without them.
I go for my NT scan mext week and really want to ask them if they can show us between the legs to see if maybe its leaning more girl or boy. Ive done some reading and i know those techs that have done this for a long time can sometimes tell early. I wouldnt take it as definitive of course but it peaks my interest to see what it would look like at 13w +2 vs 20 w or whenever my gender scan is. Any of you that have had the nt scan, do ypu know if they would do this or have you had it done?

@busymommy23 my tech looked around different body parts and between the legs was part of it. Her comment matched what our blood work said. My DS i think I had a similar experience with seeing different parts of the baby's body. Only difference, is that with DS the tech didn't talk much (idk if it was a rule for that office).
@busymommy23 I think it depends on your tech and the office policy. I’ve never asked because I always thought it wouldn’t be possible that early, but it’s worth a try!
My tech looked between the legs very quickly at my NT scan but didn’t mention anything. I saw a penis that day and I knew it. I had a different tech today, I didn’t even ask her but she offered to look. She said it looks like a boy but they will confirm in 4 weeks. So it really just depends on the tech. @busymommy23
I did it with my first birth and I think I will do it this time. I haven't seen solid proof on it but it's supposed to help with healing, preventing PPD and overall strength and health during your recovery. It could have been total placebo effect, I don't know, but I felt so good I want to do it again.
@runsomewhere the whole idea skeeved me out tbh. I have super crunchy cousin who got hers powdered, and is putting it in the soil of a plant she’s going to give her son for “when he goes off to college.” Because that’s just what he’ll want when he goes off to college.
My doctor told me today to start taking a baby aspirin every day because I’m high-risk for preeclampsia. I already had slightly elevated blood pressure pre-pregnancy anyways. Has anyone else either been high risk for or had preeclampsia?
@runsomewhere I don't think i will be doing it. I got PPD and PPA, but for me I don't understand how that would prevent it. I think for me it was many other life situations that contributed to it plus my history of depression. Just me, but I makes me think of it as a placebo when people say that. I am not doctor nor have I ever been really interested enough to do my research on it - so take my words with a grain of salt. I'd be interested to hear of those who have tried it.
@acunamatada that is hilarious! at least it wasn't the belly button.
@runsomewhere I'm considering it but we still need to look at out budget. I'm already hiring a doula, and I'm currently on a schedule with my chiropractor and my prenatal yoga so we'll see once everything adds up! Do you know a price range for that?
@hayhay93 last pregnancy I developed high blood pressure sometime after 20 weeks. there were a couple times when it was high enough that they sent me for monitoring and to test for pre-e but it always came back negative. I also had horrible swelling, and high amniotic fluid levels that led to weekly ultrasounds towards the end. All of this led to me being induced at 39 weeks, and after delivery my blood pressure actually increased and I had to be put on blood pressure meds for a while. After all this, I was put on baby aspirin this time starting last week, and I am kind of annoyed my doctor from my last pregnancy (I switched practices) never mentioned baby aspirin as an option to me when I developed high blood pressure last time.
Sorry that got really long but I hope something in there was helpful lol. I'm focusing on not gaining too much weight this time, hoping that and the baby aspirin will keep my blood pressure on check, because I want to avoid induction at all costs this time.
@hayhay93 not me but my bff had very high blood pressure throughout pregnancy even with meds and went in to triage several times when it spiked. She ended up getting a C-section unexpectedly about a month and a half early because of high risk of developing Pre-E at that time. And she remained on meds for a while after birth because apparently you can still get eclampsia after birth. She's okay now and her baby was/is perfectly fine.
@runsomewhere I also won't be encapsulating any organs. I didn't even look at my placenta after both births. However, like @wildtot said I got PPD kind of late post-partum (6 months) related to the stress of keeping up with everything and so I doubt eating my placenta would have helped that situation. But, who knows right? If you want to do it, go for it!
@flockofmoosen3 I thought I would be puking salad and veggies of any kind up. I'm actually surprised it has all stayed down. I had sateed brussels sprouts and a caesar salad with shrimp for lunch. It all has kept down, surprisingly...meatballs and rice on the other hand...vvrrrrrppppp!
@runsomewhere I am intrigued by the idea of recycling the placenta somehow, however I am too much of a pansy to actually do it. More power to you, sister!
This is not a pregnant question, but a Bump questions. I use the app on my phone, is there a way to tell if someone tags you in a post? I’m not able to get on for long periods of time everyday and go back through everything I’ve posted on to see if someone tagged me. I try to get on once a day, but I don’t always have time. I’ve never noticed a notification pop up before.
@acunamatada That is just what every 18 year old boy needs! Hilarious!

@busymommy23 Im sure it doesn’t hurt to ask! When i had my NT scan for my son I was about 13 weeks and the tech said she wouldn’t even speculate because it was too early. Like others said, I think it depends on office policy.

@wildtot and @flockofmoosen3 to be honest I'm not sure how true it is but I think it's something with regulating your hormones and producing feel good chemicals that's suppose to make eating the placenta helpful with PPD. I didn't have any risk factors for PPD but I can't help but feel like maybe the placental capsules helped me. I know it sounds silly but it they helped me feel good I definitely want to do it again.
When I told my mom she laughed and said "oh so you're basically cannibalizing yourself" lol
@kissableviv most doulas offer it at a deep discount for clients, otherwise it's in the mid $200s I think.
@runsomewhere if it is something you are interested in my friend actually does encapsulation I know a few people who had it done and others that didnt. I think it is just a personal preference.
@zande2016@flockofmoosen3 Thank you ladies for the info. I found out after I posted here that my mom said preeclampsia runs in our family and almost every woman gets it. So hey, as long as I make it out with a healthy baby. I’ll deal. At my next appointment, they are giving me an at home blood pressure monitor.
Zande, did you have blood pressure problems after birth as well? I’m sorry your doctor didn’t tell you about it! My doctors are really on top of things and I’m extremely impressed but also terrified because it’s very overwhelming.
@hayhay93 yeah my bp went higher after I gave birth. I was really surprised by it. During pregnancy it was fluctuating a lot, but I got my highest reading at the hospital after birth and it stayed up for a couple months. I was monitored for pre-e for a couple weeks after my son was born and I was put on blood pressure meds for a couple months. My swelling didn't go down until I was put on the meds postpartum too. I'm hopeful the aspirin will help this time. It's good you know about your risk and family history so you can be prepared and monitored.
ETA I was off the meds after a few months and all has been perfect since then, so it was nothing permanent
@lindsayleigh1989 that's cool, is she also a doula? I find this field so fascinating. The woman who did mine last time and will do it this time is such a bad ass doula. I agree abut it being a personal choice, I understand how some people believe in it and how others can think it's gross or total nonsense.
@hayhay93 (I'm tagging you all over the place today lol) I just met with my MFM yesterday and she suggested baby aspirin to help prevent pre-e. I had pre-e in my first pregnancy (but not very severe), gestational hypertension with my third, and pre-e with my fourth. With #4 my BP was super high but all labs (blood and urine) were totally normal. I was induced at 37w4d and my BP didn't want to come down much. I stayed 3 days after birth and they sent me home on BP meds. They weren't working and I had to be readmitted 5 days post-partum and stay for 2 days for 24 hours of magnesium (that stuff is awful). BP came down a lot after that and I was on BP meds until 12 weeks post-partum. My MFM said that I would need to start baby aspirin prior to 16 weeks.

@hayhay93 - I'm another in that situation. I had HTN and was on BP medication for 10 years, but weaned off it about 6 months before I got pregnant with my first. My BP got and stayed fairly high during my last pregnancy but wasn't staying above 140/90 (just occasionally hitting that). I had a lot of swelling but otherwise no symptoms of pre-e. So they monitored me often and I checked my BP at home daily, but they didn't force me to induce until 41 weeks. This time they suggested I take a baby aspirin daily but I was still nursing my DD so I couldn't. I have now weaned her and my doc said we'll just monitor and see how things go. My BP this week has been 130/80 which I think it higher than last time, so I have a feeling I'll be on the baby aspirin regime soon.
Omg. I completely totally did not think about the baby aspirin and breastfeeding. I still nurse my toddler 1-2 times a day. I don't think he gets much milk from me, but I honestly have no way of knowing for sure. Shoot. Now I don't know if I should stop the aspirin, cut my little one off from the boob, or just carry on. Guess I'll have to call the midwife tomorrow...
Wow, thank you all for the info. Mine has been “slightly elevated” although they didn’t mention what it was at my last appointment. At the one before it was 130 over 80 or something less than that. I don’t remember it being crazy high. I ordered my aspirin online because it’s hard to get to the store most days, so it won’t be here until Monday. Hoping that’s not too late! Good luck with your pregnancies this time around! My mom had pre-e and made it to 41 weeks with me, so that is pretty great!
Was anyone offered AFP blood testing? It tests for neural tube defects smaller then what would be caught on an anatomy scan. I decided to get it because I had MTX so I’m paranoid, plus it’s covered by my insurance. But I don’t remember being offered it last time.
@acunamatada I've had the AFP testing done with all of my pregnancies with my MFM office. They consider it standard so I've always done it. I can't remember if I had it done with my first baby though since I was with a different practice.
