Anyone have any New Years Resolutions? I’m going to try to answer emails, texts and other correspondence immediately. I’m SO bad about that!!! I also want to exercise more consistently. I was good until it got so cold out. Finally, I need to quit swearing. It’s unbecoming for a lady
Mine is to get back to intentional exercise, to be present in my time with DS, to say “no” more often to the things I really don’t want to do, and try to be more patient in general.
I'm going to cut out sugar and eat better like I used to. I also have a plan to work out 3 days a week. Finally, I want to be better at keeping up with the house. It tends to get terrible and then I spend part of my weekend cleaning.
@mileswithmyles I like your saying "no" to things more often resolution. I should do that too. I always tell my friends to put themselves and their mental health first, but don't take my own advice.
I want to make a schedule for 2018 for working out so I focus more on cardio and squatting. I probably should put eating healthier on the list of resolutions too, but that one is really hard for me. So I think I will just focus on making a set workout schedule for now.
@mileswithmyles I’m tempted to schedule my own screen time so I don’t get too distracted from my kids. Like, I can check my email/the bump in the morning before they wake up, and at night after they go to sleep. What is your plan? Also, how are you going to be more patient? I need more patience too!!! @JNCPro3130 Cutting out sugar is so hard but its always so worth it! I read this amazing book called “Fat Chance” by a pediatric neuro-endocrinologist who’s done research on the toxic potential of sugar. It’s an excellent read. In his household, they can eat one dessert a week, which seems reasonable to me. I’m diabetic so I never eat sugar except for the occasional small bite, but I’d like to limit my kids’ intake. I feel you on the house!!!! I fall into the trap of thinking small cleaning tasks don’t warrant attention. Then it gets overwhelming and takes forever! There’s this thing called the “one minute rule” where you do short tasks immediately, like putting a plate in the dishwasher or washing it right away instead of leaving it in the sink. Maybe this rule is worth it? I’ve never tried it haha! @silverhope Do you have a set exercise program? Any prenatal workout video suggestions? Healthy eating is so overwhelming. There’s way too much info out there!
@gildah just reminding myself that other things, like my email or the dishes, can wait a little while longer if he wants to play. I’m not so sure about the patience one, but I’m going to try to be more aware of it.
@gildah, we lived a paleo eating for awhile! It's great! I feel healthier and have more energy. It's more expensive and takes more effort to stick with. I just need to get back into it. I've been eating horribly so I expect to feel badly (sluggish and possibly have some headaches) until I get over the sugar cravings. The 1 minute rule sounds perfect! I definitely need to do that! Things like dishes, putting things where they belong, and just staying straightened up are easy things to do...I just have to do it! I'm hoping to get into good habits before the baby comes!
I don’t really do resolutions but I usually set goals for myself... I’m hoping to walk/run at least two 5k’s after LOncomes earth side, but outside of that my “goals” are: Birth, Breastfeed, and Babywear. (I suck at babywearing though if I’m being wholly honest.)
@ivyvines6 I also suck at babywearing but tried really hard with DS. I was part of a babywearing group for about 6 months when DS was born and could check out different carriers each meeting but it didn't last too long. I found the stroller to be a lot easier for us. I am hoping I will be able to figure it out with this baby so we can still get out and be active with DS. I am not planning on buying a double stroller, but maybe I should?
@bwow615 How old is your DS? If you still regularly use a stroller with him, a double might be a good idea. We used ours a lot with our youngest two who are exactly 2 years apart. If your LO doesn’t really use a stroller anymore then it might not be worth the investment. We have a Maclaren double umbrella and a baby jogger summit x3. We take the maclaren to indoor trips like the mall or airport and the baby jogger when we walk the dog, go to the zoo or any other time we need something really easy to push.
@mileswithmyles@gildah I took off all work related email and websites from my home devices AND cancelled cable last year. It was the BEST decision I’ve made.
This year my my goal is to not eat any meal in front of a screen or in my car. I want to be mindful when I eat and be thankful for the nourishment and taste that fuels my body rather than snacking and mindless Netflix/internet eating. Yah, total crunchy granola hippy over here.
@bwow615 I sucked at baby wearing as well but I'm guessing with this new baby, I'll need to utilize my wraps and lillebaby much more to take the twins out. Maybe check your fb marketplace or local sale groups of fb for a double stroller. I see them posted a lot by me for good prices and in decent condition.
My resolution is definitely to say "no" more, especially to my mom. I do and lot of extra stuff with and for her out of guilt since I'm the only kid around and my dad is no longer here. I already started a bit this year, but it'll continue next year. Mainly the issue is with holidays and such. Last year my resolution or goal was to stick with the gym I had recently joined and I was successful with that. This year it's also another goal of mine.
Thanks guys, DS will turn 3 a few weeks after baby is here, he doesn't like the stroller now, he usually requests to walk, which is slow but usually it's fine by me. But I think having one would be a good idea just in case and I probably could find a decent deal used.
I love the saying “no” resolution. I need to add that.
Mine is to incorporate a daily rhythm to our day so we have a flexible schedule. I am the single worst person in the world at making schedules and sticking to them but the chaos wears me down.
I also would love to run a 5k at least this year. I don’t see myself running this pregnancy (I ran 6 miles the day I had DD because I’m insane) so i don’t want to set the bar too high.
@gildah I prefer in-class to DVDs usually bc once I pay for a membership, I need to get my money's worth and end up going more. But I want to add in running and squatting to my routine bc my barre studio workouts are very tame.
I follow a lot of pregnant models on instagram (great for self esteem building jokes...don't do it), but they all post their workouts so I save them and I'm going to use their routines for my squatting schedule. One example is this girl who does 30 min cardio, 20 regular squats x 3, 20 sumo squats x 3, and 20 lunges x 3: https://www.instagram.com/p/BcQMEGrFSg2/?taken-by=danisil10
For running, I love Hal Higdon's training programs, so I will probably modify his 5K program.
Guess I need to make my squatting and running schedule today though since the new year is tomorrow! Eep.
I don’t really do “resolutions”, but my goal for 2018 is to focus on purging, cleaning and decorating our home. When we moved back to Canada we sold all of our stuff and bought cheapo furniture/decor. I feel like we are living like college kids again. I want to put in more effort and upgrade some stuff. I also want to focus on a better cleaning routine. I’m terrible with letting a toddler and busy schedule over take the house. Then I feel overwhelmed with how messy everything is.
I have a number of goals, but that’s the big one for the next few months at least!
@justsuzie I cancelled cabled and removed emails from home devices back in 2016. It was the best decision ever. I also need to work on not eating in front of a screen.
I want to be more organized with our house, schedules, car, etc. especially since we're adding another baby, our oldest is starting kindergarten, and my husband is furthering his education and will likely be taking an internship this summer.
I want to -Spend more time reading books and less time reading Facebook. -Focus more on healthy food for my family and myself. -Exercise more. -Practice mindfulness
I am going to: 1. Train our second dog- we adopted her in July, and she hadn't been in a house or anything before so she needed some time to just figure things out. Now she's comfortable, and it's time to lay down the law. We went to petsmart yesterday and she stood in the toy aisle and shook from head to foot for 20 min.- so we have a baseline! 2. Get back in shape after baby- I want to do a 10K in the fall and a half in the winter. We shall see! 3. Home organization- I need to go room by room and get things organized. We don't have a ton of stuff per say, but it's not really in order and has been bugging me for awhile.
DH and I both have the same resolution. To keep the house in better shape. We're awful housekeepers, especially when it comes to clutter. We're aiming to get the house back in good shape for a starting point. Then we both agreed we'd pick up clutter every evening (instead of once a week) and set a cleaning schedule like clean bathrooms on Monday, clean kitchen on Wednesday, etc. With a 3 yo tazmanian devil in the house now, the clutter gets to be a bit too much at times and with baby only 4 months away, we've got to start doing better for baby's safety and our sanity.
I'm pretty bad at resolutions, too, so I kinda just do goals. I definitely need to work on being more patient with the girls, and remember that their tantrums and whining are just their way of dealing with emotions that they can't identify or control at this age. Other than that, we're trying to sell our house and buy a new one, so those are definitely at the top of the priority list, and I'm hoping once we start with a clean slate (and hopefully a bigger one) I can continue to keep things organized and get better at controlling clutter. Especially our bedroom. I feel like it's the one room in the house that no one sees, so I'm constantly procrastinating getting it cleaned up and putting stuff away.

So far so good with the saying no more and not being guilted into anything. My brother and family are in town. My mom wants all of us to go to dinner at "her" restaurant to show the grandkids off to the owners. I'd be ok with it, except the food is unacceptable. Like, makes you sick unacceptable. I worked there over a decade ago for a few months and even then the food handling was questionable and from the looks of it, it's gotten worse. One of the last times I did eat there was several years ago and I was given have a chicken that was literally still frozen in the middle. Couldn't even cut it open to show them it was frozen. So nope, I'm not risking us getting food poisoning so you can show them off. And the worst part is sometimes my mom will admit how awful the food is and how it's made her sick, but she keeps going because they're so nice and she feels comfortable going there alone to break up her week. I tried to be nice and say it was a gym night that I need to do being pregnant and she wants DH to just bring the kids down instead. Ha. Fat chance that'll happen!
@suchaglencoco That sounds pretty sketchy, how in the world are they still in business after this long? I would definitely stick to your guns on that one. Yeesh!
