Product Spotlight 12/25- Diapering!

Almost forgot it was Monday!

This is a place for FTMs to ask questions and S+TMs to share the wealth of knowledge they've accumulated on baby products. Each week we'll spotlight a new category of product to help streamline and make it easier to refer back. This week it's.... diapering! Cloth, disposable, wipes, and anything in between.

Please use the prompts below to try to share as much relevant info as you can in a format that is easy for those reading to absorb/respond to. If you'd like to recommend/ask questions about more than one product, please copy/paste the prompts as needed.

Re: Product Spotlight 12/25- Diapering!

    • Favorite [diapering product]: for a newborn-2 months, I prefer Pampers Sensitive. Beyond that we use Target brand. I also used cloth diapers whenever my DS developed a bad rash but couldn't figure out a regular routine for them.
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): Pampers are nice but pricey. Target diapers are about $20-26 per giant box.
    • What you like about it: Pampers Sensitive are great for newborns. They are soft, clean, and very gentle on their skin. Target ones work great after that. As long as they're sized right, they leak minimally. With both types of diapers (and cloth that I used) poopslosions are gonna happen. Don't forget extra clothes when you go out...and sometimes even for yourself!!
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: poop leaking out  and up the back--dont know how to stop it from happening! Anyone?
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?: I want to try more cloth diapers this time if only to save$$ in the long run. They are expensive to build up stock, but not as much as long term disposable diapering.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: Honest brand diapers we're useless, and Pampers Baby Dry were weird! They just felt damp on the outside of a full diaper.
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?: I would like recs on reasonably priced cloth diapers to try! Like...under $10 for an all-in-one, even if they're used. Some used ones sell for more than that!

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • Loading the player...
    • Favorite [diapering product]: up and up
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.):
    • What you like about it: no leaks, cheap price, has a wetness indicator for all sizes, light colored patterns that do not show through too badly
    • What you don't like about it, if anything:
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?:
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: walmart brand had really bad leaking
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering: everyone I know swears by pampers, but tbh target brand and Sam's brand were both great and much less expensive. Don't be afraid to try other options
  • Pampers swaddlers when DD was first born, switched to whatever was cheapest after a few months, usually Costco brand. We ended up liking the Costco diapers and wipes the best anyways.

(sorry for being lazy and not following the format)
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Cloth diapers for this momma. $$$$$$$$$ saved
    • Favorite [diapering product]: honest company disposables were the only thing that didn't give ds a rash. earth mama angel baby butt balm was the best for diaper rash, and i used baby powder (organic) pre-butt balm to get him dry. didnt realize until a few weeks into the game that moisture under the butt balm would keep diaper rash around!
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $80 ever six weeks, which includes 4 packs of wipes.
    • What you like about it: comes automatically, cute prints, no rash. I liked the earth mama butt balm bc the smell was better than others and i hated the pasty diaper creams.
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: honest co: price, impossible to cancel without calling.earth mama: no one carries it here so i have to remember to buy online.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?:
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: luvs. the smell! alo earths best had a lot of leaks for me.
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?: we are going to do CD most of the time this time since i'm at home. I'll re check the cd thread but if anyone had newborn recs for cd's that would be great. I have prefolds and snappies but not sure about covers/pockets/all in ones and what has worked best for some.
    • Favorite [diapering product]: newborn - 1yr we did pampers, since then it’s been target brand.
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): Target brand is way cheaper.
    • What you like about it: Didn’t notice a big difference changing from brand to store brand. They both have the pee indicator.
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: I like them both, nothing negative about them so far
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?:
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: wipe warmer was a waste of money because it dried up the wipes. Need to look into a different pail this one is starting to stink no matter how often i change the bag.
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?: i love night diapers. I also found i had to use a bigger size for night because of how much DS pees.
  • In a rush, so not using the format.

I used Pampers Sensitive diapers & wipes through the Newborn size and then switched to Honest Co diapers & wipes. I will supplement with Pampers when necessary, but I just love Honest.

Price could be a consideration for some people in using Honest.

I have also tried Babyganics and Seventh Generation and if I catch a good deal I’ll supplement with those. I don’t go looking for deals on those, though.

    We use Aquafor when necessary.

    Lab Mom (x2): Sept/Oct 2014
    Married: August 2015
    DS: Nov 2016 (36w)
    Baby H #2: July2018 (Team Pink!)

    • Favorite [diapering product]:
Luvs all the way. Prior to 6mo we used our diaper raffle stash.
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.):
    $
    • What you like about it:
    Cheap poop catchers
    • What you don't like about it, if anything:
Don't handle heavy diaper cream applications well sometimes
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?:
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?:
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?:
If you've got Amazon prime, diaper subscriptions are 25% off every shipment!
  • We used pampers swaddlers from the start and still do.  We started with pampers sensitive wipes but decided over time that they were causing diaper rash and switched to water wipes.  Water wipes are chemical free and rashes have been better since, but I think they are more expensive and they don’t come out of the package as easily as the pampers.

Wipe warmers are garbage.  Hold the wipe in your fist for a few seconds, boom, warm wipe!  Organic Dr. Boudreaux’s butt paste did nothing to help with rash.  We used Aquaphor and max strength desitin.
    • Favorite [diapering product]: pampers swaddles or cruisers
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $32 a box for size 5 (92 count) but you get more diapers for the price the smaller they are.
    • What you like about it: This is the only brand my son could use. He peed out of every huggies I put on him, luvs gave him a rash, and the other off brands either just couldn’t stand up to pampers or would give him a rash too. I don’t mind paying a little more to know he’s not going to pee out of his diaper every time. *each baby is different- this was my experience*
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: nothing.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?: I used honest when he was a newborn (because I had them) and they were okay but pampers worked great and were less expensive.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: Huggies (see above) he was sitting on my lap in a dry diaper and peed and it all came right out of the diaper and ran down my leg. That was the last time we used them.
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?: I do like Huggies natural wipes! They’re not soapy and they’re thick, so no poop under your nails. As for butt cream, my son has eczema on his butt so when he gets a rash it’s 10 fold bad so we have to use prescription stuff. I tried EO Frankensence mixed with coconut oil, or just plain coconut oil, but if you don’t change after every single pee, it eats the diapers and the gel comes out. Which is annoying.
    • Favorite [diapering product]: I have to recommend the baby bum brush. This thing sounds so weird, but I don't think I could live without it now.
    • Link/picture: https://www.target.com/s/baby+bum+brush
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $6.99
    • What you like about it: It's a silicone spatula thing that you can use to put on diaper cream. My DD had a lot of rashes due to being on antibiotics for recurrent ear infections and it makes putting the cream on so easy and you don't get it all under your fingernails, etc.
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: Nothing, it does the job perfectly.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?: Nope
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: We did not like pampers baby dry, it gave my DD a horrible rash. We only used pampers swaddlers or huggies lil snugglers
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?: If your LO gets a bad rash, go for the Triple Paste. It works so well!
  • I've totally been MIA over the holidays! Hi again! :)
    • Favorite [diapering product]: I buy the cheapest diapers I can, cause my daughter isn't sensitive... always Aldi or Walmart, and they work fabulous! My favorite product is Water Wipes. They're so great when you even have a hint of diaper rash, since I find any other wipes (even sensitive and fragrance free) are a total no no, and I end up wiping her with a rag and water. Water wipes are the best ever!
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $$
    • What you like about it: diaper rash friendly! :)
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: They aren't the most cheap wipes, but I think they're worth it.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you don't have but are considering? Why?: A wipe warmer. I'm in San Diego, so I never thought I'd need one, but my daughter HATES chilly wipes!
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: Yes! The munchkin diaper pail. It just doesn't keep the smell out. I got it for free, so I am not complaining, but I will be buying the Ubbi pail this time.
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?:
Yes!! Two years ago I applied to be on the Ellen's Mother's Day show... the one where you get LOADS of free stuff, including a year of free diapers and wipes. I encourage all the FTMs to apply because it was amazing and nuts and so much fun! And come on, the diapers alone would have been amazing!
    • Favorite [diapering product]:
When we didn't use cloth, we used Bambo Nature diapers and wipes. LOVED Bambos!!!!
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost:
Between 12-15 per bag depending on size.
    • What you like about it:
EVERYTHING. We chose it because it was an eco-friendly diaper, but also one of the highest rated diapers on the market a few years ago. With a lot of eco diapers I felt like they were scratchy or less absorbent, but not with Bambos. Super soft and gentle. My kiddo was prone to redness and rash, too, and we never had a problem once we tried these. Never had a blowout, either. They could handle overnights and we always used disposables overnight. Can't say enough good, and the wipes were as gentle as facial cloth wipes. Love!
    • What you don't like about it, if anything:
It's not the cheapest diaper out there, but I lived the quality and we also did cloth, Soo didn't care.
    • Is there a [diapering product] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?:
    Wipe warmers. They're stupid.
    • Additional thoughts on [diapering]?:
Grandma Els is magic cream for tiny butts. Good for cloth or standard diapering, and it was the only thing that would clear up her rash after one use. I still use it on her face (cheeks) when she gets chapped.
