Anyone drink herbal tea?? I'm cutting back on caffeine and have mostly given up coffee. I had some mint tea earlier and although it has no caffeine, opinions online are varying.

I think there are specific types you aren’t supposed to drink, but I don’t remember which ones....
Coffee is one of my aversions right now anyway, so for some lighter caffeine content in the morning I've been having regular black tea of varying flavors (you should see our loose tea shelf atm).
But at night when I actually do intend to attempt sleep I've been drinking a lot of rooibos tea blends, peppermint tea, or honeybush tea
@ecwk I'm interested in herbal teas, too. I've been drinking peppermint tea and it is safe to my understanding (supposed to help with nausea too) but I'm unsure of other teas
I love herbal teas but I cut all out cold turkey when I got my BFP. I am still drinking coffee, though. Before I got pregnant I'd drink an entire large Yeti cup of coffee every day. I've cut back considerably, but not sure I am consistently under 200mg. I don't drink any other caffeine and thankfully haven't had any headaches from withdrawal.
I just found out that my in-laws have nitrates/nitrites in their well water, and they have a special tap that no one ever uses that filters them out. Apparently it's not really an issue for non-pregnant folks, but for pregnant ladies, nitrates/nitrites in drinking water can lead to birth defects like cleft lip and cleft palate. I'm freaking out, because I had no idea and was just drinking the cold water that comes from their fridge, until DH and I told them about our LO on Christmas (they were preparing a roast, and all sorts of seafood, and I was getting so tired of making excuses for why I couldn't really eat much and why I all of a sudden like my beef well done). I'm hoping that because it was only for a few days, LO will be fine, but I've been reading all about it and freaking myself out. I have my first appointment on Thursday, so I will of course be bringing this up, but just wanted to put this out there, to see if anyone else has any knowledge about nitrates/nitrites, and how common they are in private well water. I don't even know if this is a question... it's more like a rant. But ughhhh I feel like every single day I find out something else that I have done wrong, and I can't stop beating myself up over it.
@eleanorlinus I don’t know about it in water, but I do know nitrates are one of the reasons you’re told to avoid lunch meat. The thing is, most doctors just tell you to heat up lunch meat, and that doesn’t do anything to the nitrates. I personally buy nitrate free bacon and lunch meat, however, I eat them from restaurants on occasion and don’t worry about it too much. All that to say, I think the risks of nitrates are unknown, and hopefully only a few days won’t have too much of an impact.

I agree with all of this, I’m a rebel who still eats *cold* lunch meat while pregnant as much as I want it and my children have been fine. I wouldn’t stress about it until you discuss with your dr, I’m sure the few days wouldn’t have done any harm.
Hope you're okay with this question: Any other moms waiting for the September 2018 BMB? I think my EDD will be Sept 3rd. I'm waiting not so patiently for the Sept BMB to open up. Then again, seeing as how my third baby was 10 pounds 13oz on his due date, I'd be okay with a late August baby! ;-)

@imbumpin my personal thought is this early on everything is growing and forming so I won't even SIP this early. I know others feel different, its just my personal preference. I read an article awhile back that I am having trouble finding right now that was basically like, "Doctors never said you could drink while pregnant, they said there was no conclusive evidence on how much will be harmful." Some people take that to mean it doesn't matter if you drink a little, and some people take it to mean you don't know how much is too much so why chance it?
Anyone having vag zaps yet? Pretty sure it's related to round ligament pain but at 6 weeks?? Kind of in my groin too. Doesn't hurt bad, it's just there.
@Firemanswife11 ughhh ms. I hope you get some relief. Mine comes and goes. I honestly think it's a craving I'm having fir some reason. It'll probably pass. No indulging for me. .
@imbumpin I’m in the ‘its Okay to drink in 3rd tri’ camp. This early on when things aren’t very established and formed I think it’s too risky. But a rare glass of wine once baby is just growing bigger I’m a little more comfortable with.

@Firemanswife11 yes. I always called them lightning crotch but same dif.
Most of the important stuff is in the books by 6 weeks. I will likely have a glass of champagne on NYE. A true glass. Not a bottle. Like 6 oz. with dinner. 1/1 is my bday so big night.
For those wanting to imbibe on New Years Eve, why not have a glass of sparkling cider or sparkling juice instead? No one can tell the difference from looking at it, if you're trying to keep it a secret still.
I agree with pp, no to the alcohol. Especially at such a critical time. Sorry I'm going to be "that person". I understand things happen and some things you consume are not completely in your control on whether they are safe or not, but do what you can and avoid the things that are ill advised and are in your control.
I’m pretty laid back on the alcohol front and truly believe the issue comes from heavier drinking. While, of course, we don’t know where that line is... I’m comfortable in knowing that a very occasional glass of wine (or not too strong beer) after 13w is ok. I do avoid it in the first tri - and actually i still didn’t later anyhow - wine is like murder on a heartburn-ridden system.
I did have a ave a sip of my moms wine on Xmas - they opened a nice bottle and so I had a taste. Even my pgal brain was ok with that. Champagne isn’t my thing so i won’t bother with that. We’ll be out to a fancy dinner with my family and I may steal a sip if there’s any paired wines I’m interested in. Nothing close to a glass though.
honestly i think this, and all the other rules, you need to think about what the actual risks are, what likelihood are they to happen, etc. like I said earlier in another thread, if you have a super trusted high end place, I’d totally eat raw sushi. And I probably will have raw oysters on nye.
Alcohol os hard bc a) we don’t know where the line is - though I’d say it is above the 0 mark and below binge drinking alcoholism and b) the massive massive judgment.

This is what I’m doing. It may not be exactly the same, but enjoyable enough. I’m not opposed to a tiny sip here and there of alcohol, because there are tiny amounts of alcohol in many things we eat and drink, but I’ll mostly be abstaining the entire pregnancy. Not worth the risk.
For the record, later in pregnancy, I drink NA beer pretty regularly. My OB says it's totally fine (even with the *trace* amount of alcohol in it) and encourages it if I am craving beer. In my 1st pregnancy with DS, beer was my biggest craving lol.

When I did this last pregnancy I made DH buy it for me because I didn’t want the judgement, since it still looks like regular beer
Does anyone else have bad morning sickness and have advice on how to manage it?
I experience it in the morning and evening (get a break mid day for 4-6 hours). It’s to the point that I get physically sick up to multiple times in the morning- even if I’ve only had a few sips of water.
I craved beer with DS too, but not until the 3rd tri. I definitely snuck sips of DHs beer at that point. I won’t be drinking at all on NYE or during the first tri. Probably won’t drink the second trimester either, but I think a small glass here and there is most likely okay.
@proudparent2b my friend took Diclegis until 28 weeks (she’s 30 weeks now). I feel sick a lot but have only actually thrown up a handful of times. I’d ask your doctor about it.
Even though wine is my drink of choice, I also craved beer with DS! I did not indulge other than a few sips of DH beer, but not until 3rd tri. As tempting as a sip on NYE will be, I will abstain since it is so early. Now come 3rd tri, when it is middle of summer heat and we are sitting outside on the deck, I may sneak a sip of cold beer
@proudparent2b Zofran is an option in pregnancy. Talk to your care provider about it. It dissolved under your tongue so you don’t have to worry about puking it up before if works. My sister used it for her second and said it took the edge off so she didn’t throw up as much (still felt like crap). Talk to your care provider anyhow - if you are throwing up a lot you can be at risk for dehydration.
Otherwise just try try to stay hydrated. Mine isn’t nearly so bad, but I’ve been drinking a bottle of carnation in bed before I get up - when I feel ok still since once I’m UP I’m vomity. It’s really helped take the edge off so I’m just dry heaving and gagging and not puking. Plus I have no appetite (except hunger makes me sick) so it’s probanly my best meal of the day lol.
I'm in the "not drinking until the baby is born and I have enough milk saved up to pump and dump" camp. I am weird and don't really love the taste of alcohol, so if I'm not going to drink enough to get a buzz (which I obvi wouldn't do) I don't see the point. Sparkling apple cider in a fancy flute will suffice just fine! Oddly I keep having dreams about accidentally drinking though, what is that about, just weird pregnancy guilt?

@proudparent2b I’ve found eating a couple saltines in bed before I get up helps in the morning. I also think the more I can keep from being hungry the better. It’s worst for me if I don’t eat. My doctor just told me to take a combination of vitamin b and unisom, and if that doesn’t work she’ll give me a prescription for diclegis. Maybe ask your doctor!
How do you deal with the exhaustion with a toddler?I’m already so tired! The first pregnancy was so much easier. I would just go to bed at 6pm but can’t do that this time.
@legallykate totally your call of course but you don't need to pump and dump. Dr. Jack Newman had an interesting piece about it on his Facebook page. Just in case you'd like like to check it out!
