Re: February 2018 IVF

  • @ChristenMA83 good that he is able to do it in the end. I think the biggest problem with the IUI was that we had less than 1 hour to hand in the sample so having a deadline like that stressed him out too much. I'm  thinking about booking into a hotel the night before ER so he can produce the sample there  :D
    I'm 34, SO 39

  • Oh my goodness, so much activity!  I’m so sorry I’m so bad at keeping up (I’m pretty much always on mobile).

@roisis Yes, I am able to write to the shared file with the new Feb tab, thanks :)

@mrsa2017 Will you be monitored during your first 7 days of stims at home?  I had a little freak out moment last night till I talked to my RE for clarification.  They said they didn’t want to see me till after 5 nights of stims - partly so I didn’t have to drive to their weekend location 40 miles away.  Last cycle he dropped my meds after 3 nights based on blood work, dropped them again for the next two nights, and then again for the following night, then I was done (only7 nights of stims).  Apparently I’m supposed to do the same step down this time too, but without the benefit of blood work to confirm. I guess we’ll see how things look in Monday.

@kristimh80 Glad stims are going well.  Last cycle (because I was surprised at starting at 450 fsh and ending with 300 fsh - not that drastic a decrease, but my old RE never reduced my stims) my RE said that the further along you are in stims, the less meds you need.  So it sounds like things are moving along!  My first cycle s last year, I stimmed 9,10, and 11 days - but stimming just 7 days on the new protocol yielded the best result among them.  So shorter can be okay.  I also HATE BC (more than lupron) so I’m super grateful for the natural start.  Looking forward to your updates.

@ChristenMA83 It’s great to have insurance coverage, but insurance companies can absolutely drive you batty sometimes.  Glad you’re getting it sorted.

AFM, I started stims last night (unfortunately my AFC was about half what it was at the start of last cycle :-/ Though I am 40 now... Hoping for quality since I may not have quantity!), and DH took Calliope (the dog) and left me for a week (partly to go up to visit his dad and take care of some things with him, and he also has a business meeting out of town next Wednesday).  If this cycle goes anything like the last one (I only stimmed for 7 days), I may be just done stimming by the time I next see him!  So now I’m feeling a little all by myself (all the drugs/hormones won’t help later on!), but it’s hardly my first rodeo.

  • @artemis618 Great to hear your new cycle is going better!! They had me on 250 follistim and 150 menopur. I responded well to follistim before, so I was shocked she had me that high to begin with. Though, last night both my meds hurt injecting...human pin cushion! lol

  • @kristimh80 Well, actually we’re off to a worse start AFC-wise (by 50%), but hoping for the best for whatever we can get from with what we’re working.  Just started stimming last night and already the shots hurt.  Last cycle was so easy breezy, but every one is different.  We won’t actually get any idea how it’s going until Monday.

  • I can’t catch up with everyone now, but here’s a quick check-in:

@kristimh80 @artemis618 I will also probably stim shorter than my last cycle. My new RE looked at my charts from last time and said he would have triggered on Day 8, but my clinic waited until Day 10 and he worries lost some eggs that way. So shorter can be better, it seems. :-)

@ChristenMA83 OMG to your insurance company. I don’t know how you kept your cool. That is all kinds of disfunctional. And then the false pregnancy thing on top of it? Wow. I’m glad it sounds like you’re getting it all sorted out!

@roisis Thanks for starting the spreadsheet!

@mandurz I’m sorry to lose you to a delay! Good luck in March!

@Orlaa I worried at all of our IUIs and our first IVF that DH would have performance issues, but he’s managed to produce a sample every time. Hopefully YH won’t have any problems, either. Agreed with whoever said earlier that the specimen has been perhaps smaller than normal, but regardless you’ll still get more than enough for the amount of eggs you’ll produce.

AFM I went in for my sounding/trial transfer and came out with an adjusted protocol. I’m adding in estrogen patches after I O this cycle “to even things out” through the IVF cycle. I don’t fully understand it but he’s worried that it’s only day 11 and I’m almost ready to O (very unusual for me!) and last IVF I produced very large follicles fairly early. So there we are.
  • @Bababatty sounds like this new clinic is more thorough, so hopefully that will end up with better results for you.
As for the insurance, my clinic is dealing with most the pain.  When I have to call in it's to the fertility specific line and they are much easier to deal with than the general lines.  Plus my liaison at the clinic is awesome and keeps me informed.  I'm just glad we're getting this sorted out now when I have time.  I'd be freaking out if this was next week (starting stims on 2/3).

@Bababatty Glad that they are being proactive for you this go around! I'm still waiting on the call from bloodwork. Yesterday estrogen was very high after 3 stim days. I kinda wish they'd given me something to even it all out! I'm ready for you to get started! Hopefully this means we'll transfer around the same time though :)

  • @roisis I just got an email from my coordinator reminding me that Sunday is the last day for my BCP and to not forget to tell her when I get AF. I told her I was so over the crampiness and spotting. Then my boobs have been so darn achy. I'm ready to rent out my reproductive organs for the weekend and pick them up on Monday! :D Let's load up on midol just in case AF acts like we stole her man or something.

@kristimh80 Spotting is the worse! I would rather just get to the full flow and be done. I'm not even surprised anymore when I don't see any spotting, because the minute I take my BCP it comes down like clockwork! I'd love to have sexy time with my husband but this always seems to c**k block (excuse my french, that's how much I'm annoyed)!

@ChristenMA83 I'll save my money on the IVF journal then and just put the money towards getting a " See You in The Fall Paps" onesie ;) The one thing I don't miss with paying OOP is having to fight with stupid insurance companies. You pay a heap of money and when you really need them to step up, they kick up and act a fool. Voted Most Likely to Raise Your Blood Pressure - Insurance Companies (applause)I'm glad your clinic is com-batting them on your behalf, you chose a great clinic that supports you as well.Hopefully they sort that out by Monday. We waited long for February.

@mandurz I actually tried the keto diet for a bit and I took my supplements regularly so fingers crossed that those will work out in my favor. QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY. NO OHSS NO OHSS NO OHSS!

@Orlaa Your SO is not alone. DH has never "spit up" on his own (I asked "not even as a teen?" he's weird! lol, so I asked him what will he do when I'm having my ER and he has to spit up in a room where everyone knows what he's doing?! Up to this day he still says he doesn't know what he will do. I told him to take a book with him or something but that this is his one time to shine and he had better not screw this up! After all the hell I have to endure for both of us to fulfill our dreams, he had better excel with his ONE shining moment! The time he had to give a sample we had sexy time at home and then raced to the lab.

@artemis No monitoring at home for the first 7 days. My RE sent a letter to my OB but idk if she told him about monitoring me before we head out. We will literally be praying things are going smooth until we can get to our clinic. I think about how the risk of needing to add or subtract meds can be a factor and then I realize that there is nothing I can do,especially since they only sent enough meds for each of the 7 days. sigh.... The World of IVF. Hopefully you get lots of eggies regardless of how things look right now.

AFM still fighting this nasty cold but one day closer to quitting BCP (twerk twerk).... I get to see my OB Feb 1., as per my RE's instructions, and then I report back to my coordinator and wait to hear what to do next.
Sooooooo I just read that I will be combining my merional (menopur)  and fostimon (follistim) medication and injecting them into my thigh.... Anyone have to do the thigh shots? I was thinking I would be doing them in stomach :o Which hurts more, stomach or thigh?

  • @mrsa2017 I feel the same when my SO freaks out about it. In my head I'm screaming "this is you're ONE job! " after all the pills, ultrasounds, injections etc I have to go through. But I keep my mouth shut as it would definitely make things worse. I was actually surprised at how quickly he managed to do it yesterday for the semen analysis. When I asked he said he'd hidden a sex toy in his coat pocket  :D Whatever works is fine by me!

  • I don't know if I feel sorry for my SO or not. I have thought that yeah - I have to go through multiple injections, ultrasounds, surgery, blood tests, vaginal suppositories all leading to insane hormone swings - and all he has to do is cheat on me with a cup!! But naturally I have never said this. Thankfully he hasn't had a problem in this area - or he never said he has, and he's never commented on the quantity. It must be tough for them to 'perform' on command though - particularly under such circumstances. I do sometimes look at other men in the waiting room and feel like saying tee-hee-hee :P (childish - I know!)

mrsa2017  I had to do both tummy and thigh shots last time around. I started with the Gonal-F in the tummy, which didn't bother me too much as I had taken something similar before, but then the Cetrocide had to go into my thighs. Honestly I was really freaked out about that one - I think because (for me anyway) the Gonal was in the pen-style injectible, whereas the Cetrocide was a proper syringe. It scared the crap out of me. But in the end - I could honestly say that one location doesn't hurt any more than the other. I asked why this one had to go into my leg and the nurse said it was simply to spread out the 'skin trauma' - so you're not constantly putting a needle into the same spot. I think it feels like it's going to be worse - but don't worry - it's really not.

AFM - 11 days late :( I actually rang the clinic - so if I don't get it by Monday I'm going to go in anyway and she said they can give me something to kick start AF (I explained how anxious I was getting). At this stage I'm getting worried about some of my meds. I bought them at the beginning of November - was meant to start then but couldn't due to a family death, then I couldn't do it in December because the lab closed over Christmas, and now I'm at the end of January. I've check the boxes and the Gonal-F can only be stored out of the fridge for up to 3 months - I'm pretty much at this deadline now. I did notice this ~2 weeks ago and quickly put it in the fridge, but it's in my head now that I can't trust it 100%. It's probably fine, but for my own peace of mind I think I might replace it - it'll just worry me otherwise. I don't suppose anyone else had a similar problem at any time?

  • Hello. I am starting a new IVF cycle. I had baseline today and will hopefully start follistim tonight. I have been on Lupron for about 2 weeks now. I am planning on doing PGS so I will have to freeze.
This is my second round of IVF. I did IVF in 2014 with a BFN. I did get pregnant on an FET cycle after that. We are unexplained infertility
  • @roisis Oh no!! Hopefully they'll give you what you need to get AF going!!

@shaelan Welcome!! Hope was Lupron? I was told today they are changing me to that for my trigger shot due to high estrogen.

AFM Day 6 stims, have 25 follicles in there partying. Most are between 11 - 13, 2 are around 16, so started Galirelix tonight. ER is scheduled for 2/1 still but maybe bumped up to Tuesday.

  • @Orlaa I think they feel a bit embarrassed because people know what they're doing. But imagine having people think you are a drug addict shooting up with needles in parking lots and public restrooms, just high up on hormones. I'd take happy time in a room with a magazine any day if I had the choice. That's funny that he snuck in a sex toy tho  :D

@kristimh80 Two more days! I bought an ice pack for before the injection and a heating pad for after. Hopefully things work out in my favor. Your follicles are rocking and rolling.... Looking nice lady!

@roisis it's childish but funny  :D , made me LOL! My coordinator told me I can choose where to stick. DH said we'll do it in my stomach because he doesn't want my thighs marked up. Well he must be the one getting the injection since he's giving his suggestion. AF never cooperates. At least they can induce if she doesn't show up on her own...

@shaelan Welcome welcome welcome!... What is your protocol?

Sooooo what are they looking or at my baseline on Thursday before my start date? I always wondered what they were looking for? And which day of your cycle are you suppose to start the injections?

  • @kristimh80 I have never had any problems with Lupron. 25 eggs. That’s great!

@mrsa2017 I am reducing my Lupron tomorrow and I start Follistim 225 tonight.
Baseline ultrasound shows that everything is quiet with no large follicles or cysts. Blood work is to make sure estradiol is low
  • @shaelan Welcome and good luck!  Will this be your first time doing PGS?

@kristimh80 Wow 25 follicles! Sounds like you're off to a good start.

@mrsa2017 I was told I'd be starting the injections on CD3, it was the same when we did the IUI. As for the baseline I know they have to make sure you have no cysts before you start stims, not sure what else they check for though.
    I'm 34, SO 39

BFP March 2017 (third cycle on Clomid) HCG failed to rise, MC at 6 weeks.
IUI July 2017 BFP which turned out to be CP
    IVF scheduled for Feb 2018

  • @Bababatty They never called to adjust anything, so guessing estrogen is behaving now that the decreased my menopur. I go back in this morning for them to poke around!

@mrsa2 1 day to go!!! Exciting! I will say for me, this process has gone pretty well. I can now do shots without ice packs...so it does get easier :) Hopefully, you'll it's be smooth sailing for you as well <3

@shaelen Great to hear! I figured it was probably ok. I've seen girls use it for weeks, just was a curve ball I didn't expect :)

Started stims last night!!! Sooo much easier than expected.@mrsa2017 you are going to rock this!
  • @shaelan Your dosage is equivalent to mines. I have to make sure they check my estradiol. Do you know what level it should be at or between?
@Orlaa I hope all is quiet because I am known to have cysts pop up with PCOS. But I believe it will be a good appointment. I stop BCP tomorrow and suppose to start injections on Friday so I have four days in between to get AF. So I could be starting on CD 1 - 4 maybe?!
@kristimh80 If I could back flip I would be doing it right now  :D Probably stimming day 3 I will attempt to inject myself (pray for me). For right now DH is in charge of injecting and I will be mixing... You have already mastered stimming  B)
@misbehaeven Yaaaaay! Any side effects yet? Thanks for the vote of confidence love. I AM READY! (plays Rocky music) LOL

  • @Orlaa yes this will be my first time doing PGS

@mrsa2017 I think it just has to be low but I think of ultrasound is quiet some doctors assume the estradiol is low
  • @shaelan Hello and welcome! How are you finding the stimming?
@misbehaeven Congrats on the start!! First injection is the toughest - but it sounds like you're rocking this already
@krintimh80 Wow you're flying ahead - loads of follies!!!! Are you triggering soon?
@mrsa2017 I know most people have responded to you already - but the first appointment is just u/s and b/w to check that all is tickety-boo before you get going! My clinic always starts stims on day 2 or day 3.

AFM - spent the whole weekend spotting and cramping and constantly running to the loo to see if anything was happening. Finally last night I got AF - with a bang - as I suspected she'd rather harsh this month. Am now just waiting for a call back from my clinic to see if I go in to them today or tomorrow.
    GL everyone

    Hi Everyone,

I'm starting IVF cycle #1 in February and decided to jump back on the Community boards after a break. I started BCP for timing and will have my next monitoring apt. on 2/9 and will likely start injections that day. My ER is likely to be the week of 2/19-2/22 sometime in there. I have an antagonist protocol with Gonal F and Menopur and then Lupron and HcG for my trigger. They do frozen cycles only, so sometime in March?

I have severe chemical depression, especially hormonal, totally controlled by a very small dose of antidepressants and before TTC birth control. The hormones from my IUI cycles triggered terrible depression for me again and I consulted with a specialist to see if I should even pursue IVF. They told me to be positive and that I can do it so I am.

@meesh13-2 We are also doing PGS. I was torn because we don't have as a strong reason to as most, but with the severe MFI and our insurance paying 75% for 3 cycles I just made the financial & practical decision. I have a lot of friends who have had miscarriages and it makes me feel better that I know if I can at least get through a first round with decent # of eggs with my depression issues and we do ICSI that I have a good chance of getting a pregnancy in the first few frozen transfers. We will choose a boy if we have the option first and then a girl. Most of us doing IVF gave up the fantasy of a spontaneous natural pregnancy months or years ago, so if I have the chance to build our perfect fantasy lemonade out of lemons I say!

@mrsa2017 sorry to hear you had the flu! It was a doozy. In the last 30 days I had Norovirus (stomach flu) and regular flu and am just recovering. My doctor said its fine but here come more symptoms soon!

@ChristenMA83 I was sorry to read of your insurance troubles. We've had some similar challenges and insurance has almost put me to the point of a breakdown at times haha! In April I found out I didn't have IVF coverage only because I'm on a small not large business plan through a loophole, then waited until Nov to enroll in husband's for 75% coverage starting Jan 1. Then held breathe while we hoped it all worked properly. Then they failed to enroll me on time as promised and I had to prove I had paperwork that they were supposed to. For over a week I didn't even have the insurance they promised us and it delayed everything. Thanks goodness for insurance but they don't make it easy!!

@Orlaa Can your husband go do a sample ahead and freeze it? Even though DH has done quite a few samples at this point and doesn't seem to have pressure-related issues they still had him go in and freeze ahead. They said even if some men do ok with IUI sample day of that the IVF adds more pressure. They had him freeze and will also do the day of and see which looks better. Of course then we get to pay to store it...

I'm really glad to have a group of people going through the same thing. I'm nervous and excited and scared all at once!

  • @greenhillgirl Hello and Welcome! Sorry you find yourself here but you're in good company. Can you get any counselling sessions during your treatment? I'm lucky that my clinic includes as much one-to-one sessions as we need as part of the price - do you have such an option? I only ask as you have stated that your depression is severe. Without being alarming, please do recognise that ivf is very tough, both physically and mentally. I'm not sure all doctors (of other specialities - such as IF) take mental health as seriously as they should, so please do take care of yourself as best as you can in the coming months. All of us here know how tough this is and these hormones can play havoc with our emotions so this is a safe place for us to all to share or blurt out all our current emotions and feelings!! You said you've consulted a specialist - so good for you - you sound on top of it :)

@kristimh80 So is your Er tomorrow? If so - Best of Luck - so exciting!!

    @mrsa2017 Last minute boom-boom! Excellent :P

AFM I'm a little concerned after my scan this morning. I've no cysts and my AFC is 7 + 9 which is good, but my lining is still too thick to start stimming today. It seems like AF is not flowing as she should. So I've to go back in tomorrow morning to see if the lining is thinner, and I'm not sure what will happen if it's not. I'm feeling kinda scared and disappointed, and honestly a little angry. I'm not sure I can wait another month to get going; I feel like I've been doing this forever and I haven't even started. I'm sitting here attempting to 'push' my lining out!!!

  • @greenhillgirl Welcome to this train.  Please do take care of yourself. I agree with the PP that this is a tough time in our lives. I don't suffer from depression but I have already prepped my husband about what the hormones can do to my emotions. I would rather him be on alert just in case.  And this flu is terrible.  I'm glad you're better, I'm trying to get over this last bit. This is the longest I have suffered from a cold.

@roisis Soooooo you are not alone in your feelings. This is my second day off BC,  no AF yet and the spotting hasn't let up. I can't deal with anymore delays because our trip is booked. I'm praying for AF either this evening or tomorrow the latest.  My coordinator told me that my appt on Thursday is just to check to see if there are any cysts. I hope with all of this spotting that atleast my lining is thinning out.  It has been about 3 weeks of spotting.

  • @greenhillgirl Welcome, I'm sorry that the hormones triggered depression for you, infertility is tough enough as it is.
I did ask my doctor about bringing in a sample to be frozen, just in case, but he said they prefer to use fresh sperm because the results are better. He said to wait and see how my SO got on with the sample for the SA and as it turned out he managed it without any bother. So basically he didn't seem  to think it'd be a problem and I hope he's right.

@roisis I hope tomorrow's scan goes well. The constant waiting and not knowing in infertility is so stressful. I used to think the TWW was bad, back when we first started TTC, little did I know what lay ahead.

AFM Just waiting for it all to get started, I can't really focus on anything else. I finish BC on Monday and have my baseline on Tuesday. I have the Menopur in the fridge ready to go. I keep trying to guess what the timeline will be: I'll get AF x-number of days after BC, then be on stims x-number of days before retrieval. Completely pointless of course.
Out of curiosity, I read that some people started stims a few days after finishing BC, whether AF showed up or not. Just wondering if this is a possibility as my doctor only mentioned CD3. I'll ask him at the next appointment anyway.

  • Thanks everyone. @mrsa2017 I am def taking my mental health serious through this cycle and may delay my FET for March to later depending on how I feel. #1 keeping myself healthy including mentally #2 trying to get pregnant.

Good luck with your appt on Thursday!

@Orlaa that makes sense about the sample and I’m sure it will be fine. I actually do feel bad for them as much as we go through. I was being super callous and of course it sounds funny but then I pictured the vulnerability of being forced to have an orgasm in that office- ugh! No thanks haha. I always try to excuse DH if he’s a little grumpy later.

Does anyone have any advice for organizing or storing meds for peace of mind? Mine will likely come this weekend and I saw photos of what typical shipments usually look like...woah. This is really happening
  • I had my scan this morning and the lining is still too thick :( I was gutted. Stupid AF stopped and started all day yesterday. They took bloods to check my hormone levels and said that the doc will look at all results this afternoon and make a decision. There's still a possibility I'll start tonight or possibly tomorrow but it's not looking likely. Apparently 'sometimes it's just not a good month to start'. I was so upset. Luckily I booked a counselling appointment (cannot emphasize how great these are) and I just blurted out all that has happened over the last year. I'm going home now - no point in going in to work and just waiting for a phone-call. (I'm just gonna go home and snuggle with my doggo - she'll help the situation!!)

    GL to everyone!

@greenhillgirl My one bit of advice on storing meds would be to check if any of them need to go in the fridge! I bought them back in November, expecting to start then but only now realised that the Gonal-F cannot be out of the fridge for more than 2 months. So any that say they can only be out of the fridge for * amount of time - just stick them in the fridge until you need them anyway!! Some people like to have them arranged very neatly in the order you'll need them - but that's a personal choice. Just make sure you have alcohol wipes and a sharps bin nearby.

  • @roisis dang! I was hoping to hear you was good to go. I will cross everything I can in hopes that doc still says yes you can start tonight or tomorrow.
You would think that having a period automatically sheds your lining causing it to be thin. Everything always has to be so specific in this process to the point where it is annoying. Women who naturally conceive probably don't have perfect lining all the time and gets KU anyway probably.
Sorry! This should probably be your rant (covers eyes). I'm now nervous about my scan tomorrow because I didn't have a full red sea yesterday nor this morning so far.  Let's pray for OK to start for the both of us.

  • @mrsa2017 Hey there! Ovaries feel better now than they did a few days ago! I think the Lupron trigger shots helped maybe lower my estrogen or at least calm things down. Or maybe I've just gotten use to the discomfort lol

  • Good luck today @kristimh80! FX for a good ER and fert report!

    Welcome @greenhillgirl!

@roisis Nooooooo!! I am so frustrated for you! Did your clinic have you on BCP in advance and is that causing the problem? I can’t remember now who’s on BCP and who’s not. What did they say about your Gonal-F? Will you need to reorder it?

AFM I got a +OPK on Monday so I’ll start estrogen patches next Monday. Still waiting on insurance approval for my other meds.
  • @roisis I am sorry. This whole experience is like a bunch of hurdles and it’s awful when you have to keep waiting. Let us know how you make out.
@greenhillgirl welcome! I usually set up an area in my bathroom for meds and the accessories
    @kristimh80 Good Luck!
