Re: Weekly Appointment Thread: Week of 12/18

  • Going Thursday for our last (unless something comes up I guess) growth scan to see where our LO is at and where they anticipate her at delivery.  34 weeks.  Guess we go to weekly at 36 weeks?  Not sure yet!

  • I had mine this morning. GBS test but no cervical check yet. He signed the form to schedule an RCS if baby is not here by 40+3. And I went ahead and scheduled my last 3 (!) appointments. Shit's getting real here.

  • Had mine yesterday and it was just BP, pee in a cup, fundal height, and checking her HB. Everything checked out well! No weird BP readings this time so looks like last time was just a fluke thankfully. Declined the cervical check but we'll start them next week when I'm 37 +4. Depending on how things looks, we may talk about planning on stripping membranes at 38-39 weeks (probably 39) but obviously that's very hypothetical right now.
  • My 36w was yesterday. I did the GBS swab, and then since I've been having some irregular contractions, my OB asked if I wouldn't mind doing a cervical check to see if they were doing anything-they were not so of course I'm a little bummed. I go again next Tuesday!
  • Had my 37w yesterday. Cervix long and closed and baby girl is very high up still, guess she’s comfy cozy in there. Guess we’ll see if there is any progress next Tuesday!
  • Ok just had to google this membrane stripping thing because it sounds awful...If anyone would like to elaborate, why are you or your provider choosing membrane stripping?  Besides potentially starting labor sooner, is there a reason to have this done?
  • @conineml - I don't think so. It's basically the least invasive form of induction and it doesn't always work. They do it to try to get the hormones that cause contractions to release. My doctor doesn't really like for her patients to go too far beyond 40 weeks and I don't really want to either. IF I have it done, I'll probably be 39 +5 and then if it doesn't work (if labor doesn't start within 48 hours) we can discuss other options. I think she'd be willing to do it at my 38 +4 appointment but I'd rather wait until after 39 weeks to get me a little closer to my due date.
  • Had an appt Monday. Nothing going on cervix-wise but I’m just now 37 weeks today. And GBS+ again, boo.
  • BPP and OB apt with not my OB and she was meh. I remember her being the on call OB who came by my room after I delivered DS, and I thought she was meh then. Glad she's not my regular OB. I have my NST on Friday.

  • Went in yesterday 38 wk appt, terrorist is just chillin. My cervix is “getting softer” (I think it was the only bone she could throw me on if I was getting closer to being ready) but still high and no signs of labor (uuugghh). If nothing drastically changes between now and next week we won’t even try to induce me, which is (1) a bummer, I want him born this year bc DH has until Jan 16 off between jobs and we’re hoping he can spend all that time w me and the terrorist (and ok ok tax break and 1 deductible would be awesome) and (2) fine, bc I don’t want to try and induce if my body isn’t ready and up my chances of a csec and/or the terrorist being in distress for some reason.

  • @conineml Much like @gusgus14 said, it's just a low intervention way of nudging your body into labor. Anyone who has been through a pitocin-induction is interested in getting their bodies to do things on their own, lol! Pitocin isn't the end of the world, but it can cause some extra intense contractions. Similarly to @gusgus14, I won't request it until after 39 weeks and then only if I'm a good candidate for it (dilated and effaced some--which I am). My doctors are very straight forward and will only do it if they think it will help you/work for you.

  • @burnsmommy27 woooooo! Congratulations!

  • @JuliaGoolia719 thank you, I feel like I just got the best Christmas present.
Here's hoping for you that you see progress in the next week and you start dilating!
  • We had our 38 week appointment monday. Not dilated  "have started softening and thinning" so that's a positive. I wanted more progress, but I also want her to come AFTER Christmas. So it sounds like that will happen! Next appointment is Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. If there is no dilation by then I'll be sad. My mom never dilated at all with me, not even to a 1, so they ended up doing a csection at 42 weeks, praying that will not be the case with us
  • @burnsmommy27 That's amazing news! Yay!

I don't have an appointment until Friday so I'll update then, but wanted to add my experience to the membrane stripping topic! At the office I go to, I always rotate providers because you never know who will be on call when it's time to deliver. That said, the men will not do membrane sweeps, but the women will! I had it done with DS at 38 and 39 weeks, but decided not even to be checked at my 40 week appointment because I was like whatever happens happens. I didn't have DS until 41w2d, so I'd say it didn't jump start labor for me right away at least. I was a day away from going in to be induced, so if it saved me from an induction no one knows! I would do it again, though. I specifically scheduled my 40 week appointment with a female OB so I'll at least have the option to give it a try. At that point, you'll do anything. Anything
  • @leeeahyo so weird that male doctors wouldn't do it!  But also...I'm one of those people that would not want a male doctor for all things vagina related...some swear by them but I would rather you have experienced the majority of the things that I will experience as well to be able to understand what I'm describing or know what I'm feeling.
@jakobaby bummer!  I was hoping you would get some movement since you had clearly dropped!
  • Already got my GBS results back-negative! I wasn't supposed to get them til next week so this was a nice surprise.
  • I had my 36 week appointment today. We did the GBS swab and had my first cervical check. No change which I was expecting this early! My midwife said she won’t do any more checks unless I request them.
  • @PhillymommaX2 yay for bonus pics of LO! Anxious to see when you reach go time :)

  • Had my 35wk appt yesterday. Nothing exciting. She'll start cervical checks at 37wks. Measuring on track and head down - yay! Made my next several spots, until a week before EDD. I know I'm so far behind most of you but crazy how quick this is coming up!
