As more people find out. I think it is helpful to have a place to ask questions about this and offer help and advice as it can be a different pregnancy experience.
@lindseyleigh09 Is this your second? I have a feeling I'll have it again too but since we've already been through it, I bet we will still feel it sooner. Especially because you already know what it feels like. Looking back, there were definitely feelings that were probably kicks that I thought was just gas or twitches or something.
yes this is my second. I am hoping that's the case. i wonder if this is typical once you have it to always have it or not
I hope not! I had one with my second but not with my first. I hope this one is different. It took me a long time to feel my second compared to my first.

@comealongponds whoa! I didn't know that was possible that is so cool!
@lindsayleigh1989 it depends on the type of twins; my boys were di-di (two sacs, two placentas) and side by side so there was a clear difference (Baby A with posterior placenta was on my left, Baby B with an anterior placenta was on my right).
My bff just told me she has an anterior placenta. She’s 23 weeks I think. And I was curious when you find out what position your placenta is in. This is my third pregnancy lol so you’d think I’d know... our office only does dating US and 20 week scans
Joining the anterior placenta club Kind of disappointed- I didn’t have it with number one, so I don’t really know what to expect. But other than that, baby looked great on the ultrasound today, and the u/s tech confirmed my sneak peek results. It’s definitely a boy!
I have one this time and am bummed. I felt my first right at 16 weeks so having to wait longer is going to drive me crazy. Also I’ve read that an anterior placenta can encourage baby into a posterior position. Anyone have experience with this or heard of it? It makes me nervous because I was really hoping to vbac.
I had one my first time and felt everything! So much so that I can't imagine what it would've felt like if I hadn't had one! I don't know about posterior position but I had a vaginal delivery just fine...ALTHOUGH I did have back labor which about killed me and sent all hopes for a med-free birth right out the window. Not sure if the anterior placenta had anything do with that...
17+4 STM here. I have an anterior placenta this time which I didn’t with my first. It is also low lying so maybe a bit different than what others have going on? I was worried I wouldn’t feel as much but I have still felt quite a bit. Even as early as just before 15 weeks I felt what was definitely a series of kicks. Since then I have felt lots of baby flipping or rolling around movements, with some kicks, but definitely not as many kicks as I felt with DD. I’m guessing the kicks are just going to be harder to feel until LO gets a bit bigger. When I do feel them, baby must be breech at that time because the kicks are higher up by my belly button. But lots of swimming around motions regardless. Just wanted to give you ladies some hope it might not be as disappointing as you might think!
Joining! This is my first. Just found out at my 17w elective scan . Not sure if it's true but the midwife who runs this lab told me I'll carry small because of that. She seemed to think it's the most common to have but I'm not sure about that... anyways, she said it might be another 5-6 weeks until I feel him !
I had one during my first pregnancy and the baby was in perfect position and was almost 9 lbs at birth. I just didn’t feel kicks until late and even then I would feel more movement from his butt in my rib cage.
I just found out I have an anterior placenta for the second time. However, I've been feeling kicks already! (Currently 16w5d) I've been feeling movement for probably a week or so already. I didn't feel anything until 21 weeks last time but I don't feel like I missed out on anything. Just want to say that even if you have an anterior placenta, you will still feel everything! Maybe externally not for a little while but once those kicks start, they don't stop!
Add me to the anterior placenta group. First time mom so I’m not sure what to expect but was told it wasn’t a concern. At my first pre natal though they couldn’t get the heartbeat with the Doppler because of it (but had ultrasound and heartbeat was strong). Fast forward a few weeks and they were able to find the heartbeat with the Doppler (phew!!) my Dr. said it’s possible it shifted or maybe just cuz baby is bigger now. Still kinda stressful. I was told not to worry! So I’m not! Lol. As for movement I’m 18 weeks tomorrow and nothing yet!
I was also told I have an anterior placenta. I can't help but to feel a little bit disappointed because I absolutely loved feeling kicks with my first and I felt like my pregnancy didn't really feel real (despite my growing belly) until I felt them. I am 18 weeks with my second and I haven't felt anything yet. I've thought I've felt a few little flutters but I keep talking myself out of it because I know the position of my placenta.
Ladies that have had a anterior placenta before....will we get to feel the baby from the outside at some point? Will the movements always feel like dull flutters or will it get stronger at some point?
@foxbaby2016 have no fear you will absolutely feel and see baby movement with an anterior placenta and I totally feel the same! It just takes longer I was in the 20's with my first but felt the flutters first but then really began to feel movement strong not to long after I hve actually heard from mom's who have had both they preferred the anterior because near the end of the pregnancy it was almost more of a cushion a d helped keep them more comfortable
At the NT scan my placenta was anterior but the tech said that it may very well move to the side as my uterus grows and expands, so.... I have no idea where my placenta is currently residing or where it will end up.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I didn't have an anterior placenta and could feel and see major movement fairly early. However I had to go to L&D for NSTs a few times because I went a day without feeling movement. Once I got there they checked and the baby was active, I have no idea why there were times I couldn't feel her but it was the most stressful part of my pregnancy. I'm dreading the possibility of having an anterior placenta and really feeling less this time around.
Also anterior placenta... My friend is an ultrasound tech and she told me this when she saw my dating ultrasound picture at 8 weeks. I'm not sure if that's still the case or if it's even possible for a placenta to move (I'm 16 + 2 now).
I am really bummed though! As a FTM I really just can't wait to feel this babe move! I've also hardly had any pregnancy symptoms and have been worried that something is wrong... Feeling baby move would just put me at ease...
@foxbaby2016 Have no fears! You will feel the movement outside as well as in. I have videos of my belly doing all sorts of crazy sudden jerking, baby hiccup videos, ect. In fact my son moved so much one night he kicked and it woke my husband up. He thought it was me but I was still sleeping! At the end of my pregnancy I was grateful for it because the kicks were so strong I couldn’t imagine what the full deal must feel like!
@brittg13 Ahh thank you! As crazy as it is, I REALLY miss those big movements (even if they were uncomfortable towards the end) with my son. I can't wait to start feeling something!!! Thanks for easing my worries.
So happy to see there's a thread about this! I had found out I have an anterior placenta at my NT and was def a bit bummed. Also a FTM. I'm so antsy to start feeling her move around and know it'll probably take longer now. I was also surprised to find out it was anterior because I was able to find the heartbeat at like 10 weeks with my at home dopple
Does anyone else feel like... a rolling? At this point with my son (not anterior) I was feeling a tapping and fluttering, like a fish flopping. Now I just feel something rolling (this baby is anterior).
Ugh. As someone who has had 4 previous cesareans I was heart broke to find out I had anterior placenta due to increased risk of placenta Accreta if it stays over my cesarean scars
@knottie4840d5ffb1b17dd8 glad you are here can you change your sn please? anterior placentas can definitely move so fingers crossed yours moves up as we get bigger
Guys I felt the tapping today for the first time! 16 weeks so I’m super surprised. At first I thought it maybe wasn’t the baby since everyone says “flutters” but this felt just like tapping or little muscle spasms. I hope I can feel her again soon
Nothing from the outside but I've been feeling him for the past 10 days (20+2 today). It's so cool! Definitely some twirling in there and a few kicks/punches. Low for the most part.he started moving this am while I tested the new rocking chair... I hope he likes it!!
definitelh low here too. If I remember it was mid to late 20's with my first we could start to feel on the outside and even see movement in the 30's from the outside! I am so glad we are all atarting to get to this point though yay!!!
I'm 18 weeks and dying to feel something but still nothing, it makes me feel excited to read your posts, that I may be feeling kicks soon in the upcoming weeks!!!
At my anatomy scan I was told I have anterior placenta. But I started feeling flutters at 16 and now I’m at 21 I get random thumps and almost rolls I swear I feel.

Thank you!! That makes me feel better! It's unnerving not knowing what to expect!
