So let's chat!

  • How many weeks are you? 4+6

Why are you considered high risk? My pancreas is an a$$hole (Diabetic)

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? I had my initial OB appointment that was just to get a referral to the MFM practice. I spoke to the MFM nurse and a diabetes educator on Friday and they wanted my blood sugar numbers for the last week. Sent those on Sunday now I'm waiting for a call for my insulin adjustment.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Just nervous to get to the 8 week ultrasound - my numbers started spiking at 8DPO so I knew something was up. I've been managing my own doses the best I can since my BFP but I'm still getting pretty high readings.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies!
We have a sweet puggle named Georgia. She is an absolute doll and loves to snuggle all day. DS loves to toss her food from his high chair so she's gained a bit of weight in the last year :D

How many weeks are you?  I'm not entirely sure.  I just found out I was pregnant last Thursday.  I'm thinking I'm around 7 weeks, but I have not yet met with my OB.

Why are you considered high risk?  I developed HELLP at 35 weeks with my second pregnancy.  It was very sudden and they induced me right away.  It took a week in the hospital for my blood work to normalize.  DD was in the NICU for 2 weeks.

Any new appointments or monitoring this week?  I haven't seen my OB yet.  My first appointment is after Christmas.  I'm definitely nervous about waiting that long, but I'm trying to remind myself that HELLP didn't develop until third trimester and that my risks are still low at this early stage.

Rants/Raves/Questions?  This will be our third, and this pregnancy was not planned.  It took us a long time to conceive number 2, and I think we both got a little complacent thinking pregnancy was unlikely to happen.  I don't think either of us have quite come to terms with it just yet.  DH was happy with two children and did not want to try for a third.  He was also very freaked out by the health scares last time around.  I always talked about wanting three kids but had recently made peace with (and actually began to welcome) the thought of stopping at two.  Now, we're expecting, and I don't think either of us know what to do.

I guess my rant is that DH, in particular, seems to be in denial about this whole thing.  He either doesn't want to talk about it at all or he makes comments which seem to lament the new reality.  He's also convinced that this will be unwelcome news when we tell our families.
DH is a great guy, and I know he will come around.  I also know that this is stressful given the health issues and for way more other reasons than I can put in this post (jobs, income, moving, child care - all issues that are on the table).  But I hope he gets out of this funk soon.  I refuse to dwell on the fact that our plans are changing or to talk about this pregnancy negatively.  After all, if he was that against it, he was 1/2 of the equation that should have been more careful about avoiding it.  Sigh... I'm rambling now.  Sorry.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies!
We don't right now.  I grew up having horses and dogs, and my parents still have our horses.  Pets are definitely in our future but not until things slow down (ha!  yeah, right)

  • @jmw386 - Thank you!
I hope your husband comes around soon. Adding another kiddo in the mix, especially after reading what you went through with the last pregnancy, I imagine is pretty stressful! It sounds like you both are keeping those communication lines open which is awesome. I hope your families welcome your newest addition and offer you both all the support you might need. Big hugs to you, and congratulations! <3

  • How many weeks are you? 7.1

Why are you considered high risk? I had an incomplete(I think it’s called that) cervix. Had an emergency cerclage, and ‘modified bed rest from 22w- the end. Not looking for that to happen again.

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? Nope. A week from today at 8.1. Should get a transvag US and start to see if it’s going to happen again.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Rant: I really hope I don’t have to get a cerclage again. It was a PITA to get, and a literal pain in the cervix, to the point that it caused PTL for like 8 weeks. Once it was removed I had no contractions for like 5 days.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies! Not currently. We just moved and knew we couldn’t take pets, to we re-homed Dally our pomchi to a lonely lady. She is super spoiled and gets her own room+clothes.

@jmw386 I’m sorry your husband is being such a turd. FX he comes around quickly.

  • @jmw386 hopefully he'll get an easier time of processing without the hormones and step up to help you.

@mrsbubbles-2 I hope your numbers calm down a bit and your adjustment helps

How many weeks are you? 5+3

Why are you considered high risk? I have anti E antibodies. Which is like anti D but there are no shots to stop your immune system attacking the baby.

Any appointments or monitoring this week? No we don't see anyone at my doctors/midwife until 8 weeks. I'm really stressing out.

Rants/raves/questions I am just really wanting to get the monitoring of bloods started
  • @princesslockness - that's so scary, glad that LO was ok! FX for a good ultrasound next week - will they give you frequent ultrasounds to monitor you?

@xinran - so sorry about the stress! Hopefully your doctor or midwife will have a plan at your 8 week appointment!

@jmw386 Sorry to hear things are kind of stressful for you lately. Hopefully your H comes around soon and you guys can be excited together.

@princesslockness I have to have a cerclage too - although it's preventative and not emergency. Mine will go in at 12 weeks. My MFM seems to think it's no big deal (he doesn't prescribe bed rest) but I'm bummed he's telling me I won't be able to dance or workout as much. I'll take it if LO stays in though!

    How many weeks are you?
Who knows. I'm 6w2d according to LMP, but could be anywhere from 4w5d - 5w2d according to O date.

Why are you considered high risk? AMA, and two previous losses. Found out I had a septate uterus so that was repaired this summer. Still considered high risk and will have to have a preventative cerclage placed at 12 weeks.

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? First OB and U/S tomorrow. It will probably be far too early to see anything, but doc wanted to do it at 6w3d anyways.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Nothing yet - besides curious if anyone else has had a septate uterus repair?

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies!
We have two cats. The older one is 13 and her name is Yuna. She's all white and has one blue eye and one gold eye. The other one is a 4 mos old kitten we adopted after Hurricane Harvey. Our neighbor found a litter in his back yard so we took one - her name is Cleo and she's super cute - although she bothers the piss out of my older cat. Pics in spoilers! <3 (The photo is when we first got her)

  • How many weeks are you? Not exactly sure as I have not had dating ultrasound yet.  I think based on math I'm 6 weeks.

Why are you considered high risk? Have an immune system issue, obese,35

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? I wish! I had at least three appointments by 10 weeks last pregnancy.  This time I can't even do an intake until the 3rd!

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies! I have one little lap dog. My profile pic is from my last pregnancy but that is my doggie!
  • @mrsbubbles-2 I think I get extra US u til everything checks out. I might have to have a preventative cerclage again. Hopefully not. That was awful.

@hezzer78 I might get one again. No one, even the MFM dude, had any clue why I was so messed up. Maybe it’s my normal, and it just wasn’t checked with L. No idea, but hopefully it works out again.

  • How many weeks are you? 5w3d

Why are you considered high risk? autoimmune hepatitis, autoimmune arthritis and crohn's disease. Essentially my body hates me

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? just bloodwork monitoring my liver and inflammation this week. Will be followed  by an ob, mfm specialist, liver doc and gi this pregnancy. Thank god for an understanding

Rants/Raves/Questions? I'm used to fatigue and nausea with my illnesses, but this is unreal. Trying to listen to my body as much as possible.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies
two black cats, batman the bombay kitty, and robin, the polydactyl. Robin has 24 toes instead of 18. Batman is two, and we adopted a sister for him, Robin.
  • How many weeks are you? 7+3

Why are you considered high risk? I am 39 and I have type 2 diabetes

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? I have had two U/S with my normal OB and the are transferring me to another high risk OB, my 1st apt with them is Jan 4th. In the mean time I am with a perinatal specialist who I met with last week and then have an U/S with them on Thursday. I saw a HB on my last U/S and this is my 3rd try and the 1st time to seem a HB. I will be through the moon to see it again on Thursday.

Rants/Raves/Questions?no not really, working on staying positive!

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies!  I love my furbabies, Dee Dee is a rescue pup who is 6 years old. And Lucious is my rescue cat who is 2 year old. they are best friends!
  • How many weeks are you? 4ish

Why are you considered high risk? I have a Ds with many birth defects. We'll be high risk for birth defects, not necessarily loss or prematurity

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? Nope, we actually won't be going in until January 30th, almost second tri :/ so I won't know how far along I am until then.

Rants/Raves/Questions? I'm pretty irritated in a fwp way that they didn't have anything before the 30th. It is frustrating waiting 6 more weeks to have a dating scan, but it is what it is.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies! I have 2 cats and 1 dog. The cats have been attached to my side the last 6 months it seems. I'm a walking cliche and named them after Disney characters

  • @jmw386 maybe after the dating scan he will be more excited? Fx. It's sometimes hard to imagine adding another one in until you see that screen or picture ♡

How many weeks are you? 7weeks 2 days

Why are you considered high risk?hezzer78  I am also AMA (37) and have had two previous losses.  .

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? Had my first ultrasound on 6w1d and saw baby with heartrate of 110.  Had another yesterday (7w1d) and was so sure I would see baby with no heartbeat, but it was there.  Baby had grown and showing right on target, HR was 113, I am freaked out because HR should be higher,  but doctor doesn't seem worrried about it. Have another US on 12/28.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Just my husband.  UGH! I love him to death and I understand its hard to know what to do when I am nauseous, its not a symptom he can see and I get feeling that he thinks I am making it up.  I was so sick last weekend I stayed in bed all day and he actually said, "Are you going to stay in bed for the whole 9 months!!??!!"  That didn't go over well. :)

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies!
We have 2 puppies.  Wicket (named after ewok from Star Wars) and Rosie  Wicket is 4 and is a lhasa apso and Rosie is a maltese/poodle mix.

Why are you considered high risk? I am AMA (38) and had gastric bypass surgery 2 years ago

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? Not this week

Rants/Raves/Questions? Not a question per se, just curious to see how the bypass os going to have an effect on both my nutritional needs as well as my body, physically.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies! We have a German Shepard who is almost 4 and a complete handful! :)
  • How many weeks are you? 6+2

Why are you considered high risk? Prior preterm birth (DS was born at 34 weeks) and had fibroids removed in February.

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? Not until January 4th.

Rants/Raves/Questions? My entire house is sick. DH is the worst of all because, you know, he’s a man.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies!
One dog, a rescue named Burton. We were told he’s a lab/shepherd mix but he’s only about 35 lb and hates the water. He’s a few eggs short of a dozen, but he’s so loveable and such a mamas boy!

I said it in the other thread but so sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself
  • How many weeks are you? 7 weeks 3 days

Why are you considered high risk? Insulin dependant diabetic, bipolar and obsessive compulsive also experiencing rapid weight gain

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? I'm in LA area. I've been seeing my primary care physician (pcp) weekly to manage sugars. Showed symptoms and elevated blood sugars within days of conception. Seeing OBGYN every 2 weeks and starting with a perinatologists also known as MFM asap.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Sorry if it's a little TMI but I'm a first time mommy. Spending all my time to keeping this baby safe and healthy. If anyone can relate I am more than happy to share, listen and just be there.
  • @crbarrera I can relate to so much that you wrote. The extra appointments this early are so foreign to me. I got my diabetes diagnosis at 28 weeks during my last pregnancy from the glucose tolerance test. My fasting numbers were in the 400s and my A1C was 10. So when my sugars spiked at 8dpo I just knew. It’s awesome that you’re being monitored closely! I’m an open book about this stuff so if you have questions about diabetes while pregnant I’ll gladly share my experience.

  • hi everyone.  i'm in the Atlanta area.

Any new appointments or monitoring this week?  I have my first appointment on December 29th to confirm pregnancy.

  • Hi all!

How many weeks are you? I’m 5 weeks 2 days based on estimated ovulation date

Why are you considered high risk?  I’ve had two losses since July and have the homozygous gene mutations for MTHFR and PAI-1

Any new appointments or monitoring this week?  I don’t have my first “phone intake” appt even until Jan 16 and won’t have an office visit until a couple weeks after that. Frustrating to not be monitored more closely earlier, but my midwives have a ”wait and see” approach

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies! I have a miniature dachshund, Lisle, who’s almost 7

  • How many weeks are you? 4 weeks

Why are you considered high risk? Age..over 35

  • Hello everyone!

    How many weeks are you?
8 weeks today, baby is a raspberry

Why are you considered high risk?
Congenital tissue laxity disorder that has an impact on joints, skin, blood vessels, hollow organs- any structures that has collagen. And a heart condition that is associated with the tissue laxity condition.

Any new appointments or monitoring this week?
Nothing this week. We had an u/s and blood work before the holidays. At my 11 week appointment, we will go see MFM and they will decide if they will share care with my OB, or take over care completely.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I kind of want to know who will be taking care of me during this pregnancy, but am really fine with either doing it, I just want to know so I can plan. Both practices deliver at the same hospital with an in house NICU, which was the most important thing to me. Now it’s just the waiting game and trying to grow this baby as long as possible, preterm labor is pretty much a given, but really hoping to make it to 36 weeks.

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your fur babies!
DH adopted our incredibly loving pit bull Stella when she was 12 weeks old, she’s 7 now. She is definitely DH’s child, it will be interesting to see how they do with a baby added to the mix! She is great with babies, so I don’t think there will be any issues, DH will just have to share his love now!
  • How many weeks are you? 6+6

Why are you considered high risk? Long QT Syndrome, history of cardiac arrests, History of pulmonary embolism, syncope, tracheostomy, ICD, blah, blah, blah

Any new appointments or monitoring this week? Starting my lovenox (blood thinner injections) this week, to prevent a PE. Doc just called and said they found crystals in my urine, so I need to drink tons of fluid to avoid kidney stones.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

GTKY: Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about your furbabies! I have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier named Tara.
