Re: Weekly Questions 12/10-12/16

  • Does anyone have a favorite sports bra during pregnancy? I wore a comfy nursing bra my last pregnancy but I don't feel one of those this time will cut it for the gym. So any recommendations?

I bought one of those VS ones that both snap and zip in the front. Very supportive and then convenient postpartum if breastfeeding because they open in the front.
Yup, I work in a fitness center, and I wear these every day. They work great for smaller or larger chested women.

  • I'm on day 8 of spotting. I didn't have this my first pregnancy but i also didn't carry a 27 lb toddler around. Is this common in second pregnancies? My doc took 1 hcg level test at 16 dpo and it came back 600 and she told me she would see me in January. :/

@lmmweaver No experience, but definitely worth asking OB if you haven’t already.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I know you said your Doc did a blood draw but do they also know that you have been spotting and for how long it has been going on? Spotting is not uncommon in early pregnancy, unfortunately we can't tell you the reason for it. Hopefully your doc can give you answers!

  • @kindbytealikat I wore a Reebok high impact sports bra with adjustable straps that I bought from Kohls last pregnancy that I loved.

  • These VS bras of which you speak @lalala2004 do they have much give? Or would it be totally pointless buying now in case I grow a lot further down the line?

  • @lmmweaver I would absolutely contact your doctor. I know spotting can be normal but being it's day 8, I would want to get it checked out.

Well, they are pretty fitted, but I technically outgrew VS’s largest size during my last pregnancy, but this bra still fit me. Definitely more stretch than other bras. Unfortunately now it’s way too big on me, but I guess I’ll grow into it again....

  • I cannot wait to find these zip front VS bras! I'll probably order up a size because I grew a size last pregnancy and shrunk back after DS weaned.
  • In case other plus size ladies are here, I found a wonderful plus size sports bra at Target! So comfy and I don’t have to double up when running, which is my biggest selling my point! Lol. I think it was champion brand.
  • Can anyone give me an idea the difference between spotting and bleeding?
Possible TW: I've been cramping (minor) and have some blood that is red and came in one "gush" (Sorry if gross). Just wondering when/if to worry

I would say bright red blood you need a pad or pantyliner for. If it’s brown or just when wiping is say spotting. Was it after a BM?

  • Red blood can be concerning. I’d call. I hope it’s ok @morgantu

sports bra: moving comfort maya has Velcro straps in the front so it works great for nursing and is a good higher impact support

@hardlyhannah I’m wearing maternity jeans occasionally! Bloat is real and my body never really went back from my 8w loss this summer, so I feel like I got a running start. Whatever. Who cares????

  • There is probably a better place for this but I can't figure it out if there is.

Why is drinking such a huge thing? I'm not trying to be judgemental; it just that how to hide a pregnancy is a large portion of the questions we have around the holidays, and statements of 'if so-and-so sees me without a drink' it will be all over. Can someone please help this 4-drinks-a-year lady?

  • @princesslockness well I’m in Wisconsin, and it’s very much a part of our culture here to drink socially. I’ve never been a big drinker though so it won’t matter for me over the holidays, but this weekend we’re doing a weekend getaway with some friends and I’m going to have to use the antibiotic line because it is something that I would’ve had at least a couple of drinks with

  • @princesslockness I think it’s more that people are nosy and rude. If you’re in an environment where people would normally drink, and you would normally drink, people might say something. They SHOULDN'T but they do.

  • Thinking of You @morgantu I'd give a call to the doc just to check.

@princesslockness I drink and if I went to an event that I would normally drink at and didn't drink, it would raise suspicions. I'd hope people would keep it to themselves but that doesn't always happen. Sometimes it's easier to have a plan to avoid the "knowing glances" and/or questions.

  • @princesslockness I'm with you on the drinking thing. Just because if I saw a friend not drinking I would just assume they didn't feel well. And if someone is rude enough to mention hey why aren't you drinking is "I'm not in the mood for it" or "I volunteered to not drink so DH could have as much as he wants." But maybe that's just he culture of people I know

  • @princesslockness I’m not a huge drinker but if I didn’t have a drink in hand at a holiday party I’m sure they’d be asking behind my back.

That said, I’ve had to fake at enough things (years ago at my sisters wedding, this summer at my brothers wedding, my dads company holiday party, and this weekend neighborhood block party. Abdvreelly.... ppl overthink it. Get a drink, a beer or a glass of wine, whatever you’d normally have. And just carry it around. You can fake sip if you’d like but really as long as you have a drink in hand at a mingling type event, no one will notice if you are actually drinking.

@hardlyhannah yeah leggings work too! I always have a hard time finding tops I like on me that work from r leggings so I end up doing jeans more. And as a sahm with 3 crazy boys I dint wear dresses much lol. I have 1 pair of jeans that still fits ok but when they are dirty etc, I own the maternity pants anyhow so why not

  • Thanks Ladies!! I must just truly live in the 'Mormon bubble' that it would never be noticed or thought about if someone wasn't drinking.

Ohhh yeah I have never said anything until after the fact ("yeah, I knew..."). My coworker's wife busted me last week though. People just get excited and blurt it out without thinking I guess.

  • I guess my social circle and my profession are fairly lush environments. There is a lot of alcohol at social functions especially around the holidays. On Fridays at work, we often have beer (there's a keg and a tap in the office). So, turning it down just raises suspicions. People usually won't say anything(and NEVER should!), but I just don't want anyone whispering about it. I really want to be able to tell people when I'm ready without the "I knew it!"
@pghtwife Is totally right about getting a drink and just holding it all night. It's so much easier than I thought it would be. I just gave it to my partner, and he swapped me for his nearly empty glass at one point. Or a quick pour out in the bathroom.

Ugh, TB ads have totally locked up my computer. Grrrr.....
  • @westphilly @kindbytealikat If ads are bothering you, use an adblocker. I use Adblock Plus - it's free and my bump experience is so much better than it used to be.

@princesslockness I know for my friends, no one would care if I didn't drink, but my family would notice and definitely mention it. At Christmas we usually have a 'fancy beer' exchange and pop multiple bottles to taste and share. There would be tons of questions if I wasn't participating in this tradition, so I plan on saying I'm getting over being sick/on antibiotics/have a UTI/etc.

@princesslockness I didn't know you were Mormon! Definitely makes a difference in the amount of alcohol you see in your social circle for sure.

Most of my friends would call me out, we only told on Thanksgiving at 5 weeks because it would be the second time in a week I had turned down alcohol and people are paying special attention to ANY cue that I might be pregnant due to the recent past.

    +1 to adblocker! That's what I use.
  • I mentioned last week how I had told my friends I wouldn't be drinking today at our Xmas party for the babies because it's a school night and my friend totally called me out on being pregnant but I brushed it off. So in my circle, even the mention of me not having a glass of wine raised suspicion combined with the fact they know I was TTC, it's easy enough to put two and two together. I was annoyed she said it though!!!

  • @ecwk I had a friend do that to me when I was pregnant with DS. I had found out a few days before a planned girls night (drinking pumpkin wine and watching Hocus Pocus). We hadn’t even been at our friends house that long when she asked if we wanted drinks and I just said “not right now.” Another friend immediately was like “are you pregnant?!?” I had planned on telling them that night, but I was a little annoyed it wasn’t on my terms.
  • @SmashJam I was raised Mormon, but haven’t actively practiced in about 9 years. I just happen to live in South East Idaho which is central to the area momo population areas.

  • @princesslockness
I have a social group that frequents pubs when we go out, and I usually don't drink. No one has ever cared one way or the other, so I find the idea that turning down a drink is "suspicious" odd. My husband doesn't like most alcohol, so he usually just grabs a soda, and no one comments on that either. We're just not big drinkers. If I'm going to imbibe it will be at home where I don't have to drive, or pay $7 for each drink!
