Low progesterone levels

Hey everyone! I've had my HCG levels checked and progesterone. My HCG is rising beautifully but my progesterone is just under a 14. Midwife likes to see it at least a 16. She prescribed me a suppository. I'm a little nervous about it! Had anyone else used them? My last pregnancy I was never checked and was just fine. I'm going to take them of course, but I just want to know if anyone else has any issues with them.

Re: Low progesterone levels

  • I’m taking prometrium which is the oral version (and less $$... my mw said she’s had good success with it). I had blood work after having losses and it wasn’t too bad but a smidge low so I’m taking it as a precaution.

I know now from my previous bmb it is annoying as a suppository will be. And either way, a side effect is it can sharpen pregnancy side effects like morning sickness.
If you are low in progesterone it can cause miscarriage so definitely the mess are worth it!!

  • I've taken them before, and I'm on them now. My progesterone is on the low side of normal so my doc just wants to be on the safe side.  They're kind of annoying, but no big deal really. I put mine in when I lay down to go to bed.
  • I'm taking prometrium suppositories. They can be messy, but I take them right before I go to bed and that usually helps. I've been taking them since I got a BFP at 8 dpo. I'm a little over 6 weeks now. I plan on taking them through the first trimester at least. I've had two miscarriages this year so I"m taking it more as a precaution. As far as side effects- I'm very bloated, and I've been breaking out a lot, but it's worth it if it helps me stay pregnant!
  • I'm on them now! Had three losses this year so my doc gave them to me to try this time around. Been taking them since 3 dpo and all is well. Like others have said, I put it in when I lay down for bed at night and it's no big deal. No real side effects for me.
  • Thanks for the responses ladies! I have not had any previous losses, but I don't want to start now. I started the suppositories last night and had some red discharge this morning (not blood, but it's the color of the suppository which is red) I wish they didn't make them red because it freaked me out thinking it was blood
  • I'm on them... little messy but you get passed that...  mine are not red...  they are a light yellow/cream color.
Im also taking injections.  Dr. Said that the suppositories are absorbed best...  but they also told me that the supplements do not register in blood tests...  so my levels never reflect what I'm taking.
  • Progesterone saved my last pregnancy!!
