@lalala2004 I agree with you on the food things. I did eat a lot of lunch meat with my first pregnancy because I craved ham/turkey for Jimmy Johns like crazy. That said that summer we had listeria in cantaloupe which I also ate. So I guess it's hard to me know it can really pop up anywhere. That said I try to be wise with my choices.
It is so hard to know you are always eating something safe. Listeria is everywhere. Just make sure your food is cooked and not raw, your vegetable and fruit washed, ect. That being said I am one of those people who will play it extra safe first trimester while major things are developing. I removed caffeine and am very cautious as to what I'm eating. As I've said my ds has many birth defects and no genetic cause. Everything that formed incorrectly formed during this time and I want to be able to say it wasn't my fault . Yes a little may not hurt most, but ask yourself if the little bit this one time is worth the risk? What if something is "wrong" with your child and you spend forever questioning if it's your fault bc of what you ate or put into your body
@meeks2020 I get that, but at the same time, when there are listeria outbreaks in fruits, vegetables, ice cream, frozen vegetables and more, it feels like trying to avoid the risk of listeria specifically is almost impossible. So I eat all the things, provided they’re cooked well and clean, and I don’t go crazy on the fish with mercury. (Although fish sounds disgusting at the moment....) I just think a lot of the recommendations scare women unnecessarily. Especially the soft cheeses. All of them here in the US are pasteurized, so it’s not even a concern.
^^^ Yep. When I was pregnant with my son is when they found listeria in blue bell ice cream. And I had eaten blue bell but avoided all the Foods I was told to avoid. I’m still being good mostly but if I crave lunch meat or anything like that, I’d probably get my sandwich toasted and eat it. I worried about everything with my first and don’t want to be like that this time!
@lalala2004 Not an issue yet, but once I'm showing I also tend to not like to eat no-nos in public. I ordered a coffee for DH once and they asked if I wanted decaf. Rude, but at the same time I usually order decaf after my first cup and would be upset if I forgot.
AFM, all the meat! I usually don't like the taste and will forget to eat meat for days or more... now I don't want anything sweet and just want red meat. I am usually iron deficient during pregnancy so it makes sense.
TTGP December Siggy Challenge: Favourite Holiday Movie Moment
@lalala2004 my comment is more geared towards raw or undercooked meat, seafood, ect. Not toward a cooked food or washed vegetables and fruit
I was going to say that I may consider ordering my steaks medium instead of medium well like I did last time.... But all meat besides bacon sounds disgusting and I don’t know if I’ll ever be eating it again
Honestly, I'm more scared of raw spinach than I am lunch meat during pregnancy. That being said, I'm definitely a play it safe while pregnant. Id rather avoid the no nos for 9 months than risk any damage.
All the carbs... But it seems the last few days a few bites in and I feel like I may explode. I just can't eat much. And it's not really aversions to much, just nothing sounds good. I wanted all the fruit with my son, spicy jalapeño beef jerky, and lots more lol For the early weeks (with L) grilled cheese is all I could keep down.
All I have any interest in eating right now is chicken nuggets and cheese/bread combos like grilled cheese and quesadillas. I’m basically a picky eater toddler. I also bought some cereal to try to be healthy but have not had any yet. I haven’t gotten sick yet (knock on wood) but the thought of other foods makes me queasy and everything smells soooo intense, I felt like I was going to die at the grocery store today.

I'm mostly craving things I can't have- soft cheeses and uncured meats (I love a big cheese and charcuterie plate- I already have an agreement with my best friend that when she comes to visit me in the hospital, she needs to bring a cheese plate and a liter of Diet Coke).
I've also been loving avocado- avocado salads and avocado rolls from my local Japanese place have been my go-to this week.

I am not really into food now. No nausea, just not interested in food. With my son I ate tostinos pizza rolls every night for dinner during my first trimester. Then I craved a raw pepper with ranch dressing every single day for lunch!
Food is starting to become palatable again (except first thing in the morning... I’m going back to work in a week, not sure how that will work needing bfast at like 10...)
im sitting here eating Christmas cookies! You guys, my last two pregnancies I had suuuuch a huge aversion to sweets! This is amazing. I’m sure my heartburn later will prevent sweets so I’m just gonna eat the crap out of them now.
Oh oh and thanks you all i made pretzels yesterday. Raw veggies with ranch dip have also been delish.
@jsnakehole if you’re in the states any cheese should be fine. FDA requires all cheeses be pasteurized here. The concern with cheeses is the pasteurization that they traditionally don’t go though.
Learned how to make California roll sushi tonight, omg, so amazing! And remarkably easy! Shrimp and imitation crab, avocados, tzatziki (cause I ran out of cucumbers).
Man, I need all the Mexican food. Like gimme all the chips and salsa stat! And also popcorn, like yummy movie theater butter style. And then a blizzard too. Yikes. I did not have insane cravings like this with my first. Currently eating skinny pop to try and curb the cravings.
Mostly don't want anything. But I can stomach fruit. So I'm doing smoothies with yogurt, just ate an asian pear. With my first I craved all the sweets and just couldn't stand the smell of coffee or eat any seafood. So this everything is gross feeling is really weird to me.
Can't remember if I've commented in this thread or not, but in case I haven't I will say that citrus tastes SO GOOD to me right now. I eat grapefruit every morning and bought clementines at the store and they are just so delicious I can't believe it. Like magic in my mouth!
@vinerie I am also loving citrus right now. I bought a bag of mandarins at the store on Saturday and I'm not sure they will last the week. I'm also enjoying anything marinaded in lemon juice, but I loved that before I was pregnant!
^ yes! Citrus is the best right now. I've been eating oranges and just got a big tub of fresh pineapple. Also, celery tastes amazing right now. Especially when it's nice and cold.
Yass! All the citrus! Which is annoying because it gives me the trots for some reason. Sigh.
I'm having a fruit crisis of sorts, I'm bored of the typical fruits like apples, grapes, strawberries...so I've been eating pears, pineapple, citrus, mangos...stuff I don't normally gravitate towards. I really want melon, but growing up in melon country where I'm accustomed to high standards for flavor, I'd be hugely disappointed. Lol
I keep wanting lobster and potatoes this time around. The lobster part is kinda weird, I usually like lobster but eat it maybe once every couple of years. My hubby got a whole bag of frozen lobster but I hope this craving goes away soon because man is that stuff expensive. Amazingly delicious but expensive.
@Firemanswife11 I'm totally craving beef right now too. We are having burgers this week for dinner and I literally NEVER eat burgers because normally ground beef gives me an upset stomach.
