Re: Fit Mom Friday 12/8/17

  • 5/7 days working out.  started back up with Hammer and Chisel a couple of weeks ago.

Finding that I'm having to not do planks and do an alternative.  Make me nauseated.(nauseous?)

It's hard watching my waistline expand This early, but it is what it is.

Goals for upcoming week 5/7 days exercising.  I would love to hit all 6 scheduled days though.

  • I actually put my gym membership on hold and that, ironically, has helped me get back into it. My old workouts just didn't feel realistic for me to do with how much this 1st trimester has been kicking my butt (zumba and pilates make my stomach cramp way to much, I don't trust my lack of balance for step right now, and it's too cold outside for my runs) , and the scheduling got all whacky, so I'd miss my class then give up for that day. Instead I found a bunch of videos that I genuinely like online and have been working out daily at home. I've been doing one for cardio, then dumbells and glut of ones. My husband's back is wonky so starting Monday I've suckered him into doing a prenatal Yoga video with me at night ;) My goal is to just crank these out every day and tone up as much as possible to have a healthier mindset toward the pregnancy puffing and eventually weight gain.

  • @d_marie_23 Any interest in sharing your fav videos?! I just got cleared for all exercise today by my Ob, but similar to you I’m not sure my old routine is tame / safe enough for my new ‘ab’...  going to try a class or two this weekend and if it’s too intense I definitely need a plan B.
  • I’m trying my first spin class as a preggo this am! Going to wear my heart rate monitor and take it slow(ish); am both excited & nervous...
Had 9w2d u/s yesterday and new Ob said to go for it - just no gasping for air & trust my body.
  • @pretzellover. I'm wearing my cycling shorts right now actually!  Have fun!
    Saturday workout done.
I googled to see how long the workout was and this popped up.   Thought I would share because I do love this workout!  I used 10s, 12s, 15s.  I had to sit out the clean squat jerk heavy to let my heart rate come down.  https://kathireuter.com/masters-hammer-chisel-day-11-hammer-power/

  • I made it three times this week, which is generally my goal! My challenge is definitely motivating myself to keep working out even though the scale is going up. I wish I could say I work out for my health, but generally it’s because I’m hoping to lose weight. Being able to drop my kid off at the Y daycare and have some time for myself is definitely helping.

  • I did orange theory yesterday and felt great. I am hoping to go again tonight, but have been so nauseous this morning...TBD!
  • I'm teaching tomorrow night so I'm thinking about just taking a long walk today, maybe do something light at home. I'm just so exhausted! Need to get back into the groove
  • @pretzellover Hey, sorry I forgot to reply. I've been doing the Lumowell workouts on Amazon Prime. The cardio and toning one I like is "Weight-loss Body Toning 1000 Calories," I just don't approach it with the "weight loss" mindset, obviously. But there's also shorter videos for specific body sections. I just like that's it's an avatar video, not a real person, so you don't have to deal with the overly peppy "you're doing great," "are you ready for [insert cheesy healthy message here]" kind of stuff since that always grates on my nerves.

  • Taught 2 hours of classes. So tired! Burned 2300 calories overall today so I can't complain. Now to keep it up!
  • Sunday monday, rest.  My hamstrings were on FIRE.
Tuesday, chisel balance (beach body workouts)
    Today, hammer conditioning.
Whew.  Hoping to workout tomorrow and Friday, rest Saturday. Workout sunday.

Now if only I could get my eating under control.

  • I'm going to ask my doctor about this next week, but I did IVF and as a result I haven't worked out for like 12 weeks. I have just been wayyy too nervous to risk anything and have been taking it very easy.

Do you think it's ok to start easy work outs again? I worked out up until the day before I gave birth to my son and I really want to stay healthy this pregnancy, too.
  • @d_marie_23 thanks for the reply! I’ll have to check it out for some variety!

@TheQuietThings and @kissableviv you ladies are seriously hardcore! I’ve been staring at my 10lb & 5lb barbells thinking I really need 8’s!

@lelo2006 I also did IVF and went 3 months without working out given hormones, egg retrieval (I was very overstim & took awhile to recover), and just started working out once my Ob cleared me to. I’m 10w today; my advice would be see your doctor first just to get the thumbs up, and then enjoy!
Ive gained no weight yet, but feel flabby from the long exercise hiatus.
  • @pretzellover omg, I used a 10lbs for some swings in class yesterday and it felt so heavy! I'm stupidly bummed because I was pretty much not working out since the day of my LMP because we got married and then immediately on our honeymoon. We were preggo shorty after we got back so I never really got back into the groove. But I'm positive I can get back to healthy routine as the second trimester approaches, hopefully!

@pretzellover totally feel you on the flab... I just feel like everything is chubby ... blah
  • I need to work on my arms for sure. Lost muscle tone already. Teaching yoga tonight and planning to go earlier so I can do some treadmill and some light lifting.
  • I did Insanity last night.

It was kind of in response to having a meltdown about hw much I've been pigging out and not treating my body right.

I'm going for a run tomorrow morning before work. It'll be like 4:30am but idgaf, I want to stay active and I used to go to a 4am HIIT class pretty regularly.

Also, I've been doing timed wall squats and planks before bed each night.

  • @runsomewhere ohhhhh I need to start doing timed wall seats asap too.
  • I don't see one for 12/15 (sorry, been swamped)!  So. Just use this until 12/22?

Swapped rest day for Saturday in Thursday.

Worked out Friday. Saturday.  This morning.
    Planned workout tomorrow.
Rest day Tuesday and sunday, hopefully!

  • Anyone know any great routines for first trimester stretches/light exercise? I have tried googling but I cannot find any I like. I would love to incorporate my 5 lb weights because I’m really looking to gain less in my arms, legs and face this time around. I did a lot of hiking prior to pregnancy and occasionally went for a run. I’m also not a high risk. I can only work out at night (extreme morning/daytime sickness) in my living room (child sleeping) so I would prefer quieter routines as well... wow I am super picky.
Would love your suggestions for videos or routines!
  • @celainev I would check toneitup.com or popsugar fitness on YouTube. There's lots of workouts that might not be pregnancy specific but they are definitely modifiable. Check out knocked up fitness.com too :)
  • @celainev blogilates is great. I stream beach body and they aren't free.

    Monday workout done.
Also this is how i'm feeling.  I haven't been able to eat clean like typical

  • We should start a new thread this Friday! In the meantime, I got 10k steps today and did some treadmill incline work and an arm workout from Lauren Gleisberg. It's SCARY how heavy 10lbs dumbbells feel :(
  • I agree, @kissableviv New thread Friday.

Cold start done, and hammer and chisel agility.  Yesterday was scheduled rest day.  Tomorrow is hammer power.

  • Was sick with a bad head cold last week and missed all my workouts. Made it Monday and Tuesday this week and going to Jazzercise tonight, so we're back on track. I feel so much better and so much less fluffy when I can get a workout in.
