@hayhay93 7.4 2 months ago. My PCP and I were working on managing it without fast acting insulin when I got pregnant.  But now I'm being sent to a specialist and will probably be put back on it after meals.  Right now I'm on basuglar (sp) and janumet (which tears my stomach up.) So I'm hoping some changes will be made at my next appt. I was following a keto diet at the time too, which was fine, but I know my specialist will want me to increase my carb intake which is going to seriously affect my sugars.  I kept my carbs under 20 a day and that was the only way I was able to get off the short acting.   With my last pregnancy 20 carbs was basically breakfast according to their diet that I'm expected to follow.

I’m sorry! It’s crazy how much the numbers change when you’re pregnant. It really blows being on insulin and just the constant worry that everything will be messed up. I wish you luck with everything and hope that you can get your numbers down. I started out on a keto diet and they said I needed to eat at least some carbs. They want me eating 30-45 carbs at meals. Which, is crazy because I can’t even eat a piece of whole grain toast with 13 carbs without a spike. For some reason I’m able to eat white toast instead and not have the same spike. I’m on 44 units of humalog with meals and finally getting good numbers and 46 units of NPH at night and still waking up with sugars in the 104-154 range. @GoldAndCurls

Welcome @GoldAndCurls and @hayhay93! Glad to see some other diabetics around here :) I'm T1 but I'm sure we'll share some similarities since you're both on insulin as well.

So after today’s appointment it doesn’t sound like my doctor will be treating me as high risk since i managed to have my son full term (even though it took a lot of effort to keep him in since 30 wks). I guess that can be good. She doesn’t plan on stress testing either which stresses me out lol. So guess I’m out of this group for now.

Just posted on the randoms, but my SCH has gotten worse since being on bedrest last week, so it's another week of bedrest for me :(
  • Options
Oh no @Crystal321 did they say why? Keep up the bedresting, it's not easy.
  • Options
    No real explanation why :(

Thank you! How are things going with your pregnancy? @TalesOfASocialIntrovert

@hayhay93 Pretty good as far as diabetes is concerned (normal pregnancy things like morning sickness and insomnia are kicking my butt!). Saw the endo last week and will see the OB for the first time this Friday. Endo gave the okay to be seen once a month instead of every other week (sending CGM downloads every 1-2 weeks). Last A1c was 6.6, higher than I want but this pregnancy was a huge surprise so I'll take it! (My LO is only 5.5 months so just fresh off the last pregnancy!)

How far along are you? 8 weeks

Why are you considered high-risk? Last pregnancy resulted in rapid onset severe pre-eclampsia (protein count was over 5200 mg normal is less than 300mg) Luckily DD and I are okay.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? My first appointment is 12/19

Any concerns/news currently? Just getting pre-e again. The whole experience was very fast paced and very traumatic afterwards when I had time to digest it and think about it.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today? That I’m pregnant and nauseous so things must be going well

GTKY: If you celebrate Christmas, do you get a live tree or artificial tree? Colored lights or white lights? Any other special traditions involving the tree? Live! White lights. Also do a separate tree for my daughter and decorated it with trolls, her favorite.

    edit: spelling is hard

@TalesOfASocialIntrovert That is great to hear! What type of insulin do you take? Have you had any experience with high fasting numbers? How amazing to have a young one and be pregnant again!! They will be besties!

My pregnancy was also super not planned for lol. I didn’t even think I could get pregnant because I’ve heard there are infertility issues with hypothyroidism. My A1C was 8 when I was checked on November 9th. I was 6 weeks 4 days at that point. I’m really hoping all of the healthy eating and insulin are helping. I entered in all of my blood sugars from the past month into an average calculator and found out that my new A1C would be around a 6.3 if I kept having decent sugars like this and I’m hoping it continues to go down as my numbers regulate.

How far along are you? 8 weeks 2 days but measured 2-3 days ahead

Why are you considered high-risk? hypothyroidism/hashimotos

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? just lots of bloodwork.  growth scans dont start until around 28-30 weeks when they are concerned about fluid around baby.

    Any concerns/news currently?
I just was surprised at my appointment that I was high risk.  Delivered my son at 40 weeks with no issues(but still lots of extra stress tests and ultrasounds).  No one told me last time I was actually considered high risk.  So I'm pretty emotional just with that diagnosis. :/  I suffered pretty bad prenatal depression with my first pregnancy (unrelated to the thyroid issues I think) so I'm worried that this will be a trigger for me.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today?
    Healthy baby at ultrasound.

GTKY: If you celebrate Christmas, do you get a live tree or artificial tree? Colored lights or white lights? Any other special traditions involving the tree?
Artificial with white lights.  Got a great deal after christmas a few years back.  We love LOVE our tree. We do a big night of toy shopping to donate at the fire house toys for tots, and go see their train garden.  By far our favorite tradition.  We do a nice big family christmas eve which is also a blast :)

@kwalsh1124 i am surprised to not be high risk this time! Sounds like we had similar experiences but since i was able to hold up till delivery 39 wks so she said she won’t expect it to be high risk. Not even considering stress test at the moment. I’m concerned because i had to be on meds and disability due to pre term labor symptoms since 30 wks. I really hope it will be uneventful as she thinks! You bet I’ll be looking out for all possible symptoms and ask for appointments if i feel is needed. She even treated me for ppd.
I hope all turns out ok! Extra attention is nice but totally draining towards the end.

    Why are you considered high-risk?
AMA, loss at 10.5 weeks last year
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
I had my first appt yesterday and heard the HB :)  Going for my U/S and NIPT on Thursday
    Any concerns/news currently?
Not really.  My spotting was put to ease when they found/removed a polyp yesterday, so I don't have to worry about why I'm bleeding anymore.
What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today?
Hearing the STRONG, STRONG HB yesterday made things really real for me, and now I can start to bond with the fact that we are having another
GTKY: If you celebrate Christmas, do you get a live tree or artificial tree? Colored lights or white lights? Any other special traditions involving the tree?
White lights always.  We do a real tree for our big tree/Christmas morning in the living room, and a fake tree in the family room for the kids' homemade ornaments and they each get a present under there as well.

@HayHayHayden Yeaaa. Since doing keto the slightest bit of carbs shoots me up.  I had been doing it since April or May.  But yeah my specialists are the same way. They are going to want me to up my carbs but it's hard to get those numbers under control when reintroducing them.
