All things bottles

I’m curious to hear what brand bottles other Mama’s are trying: which ones have worked, nipple flow, etc.

We started introducing a bottle yesterday for one feeding.  Yesterday we tried the Phillips Avent (nipple stage 1). I swear even though the nipple was marked as a slow-flow stage one nipple, the flow was much faster than my daughter usually draws from breast-feeding. She seems to take mouthfuls that were much too large. Yesterday’s feeding was fussy.  Today we tried the munchkin latch brand of bottles, with much better success. She seem to take much easier to this bottle than yesterday’s brand.

One real source of frustration with the munchkin latch bottle is that the pump adapter for the munchkin latch bottle does not work with the spectra breast pump.

Re: All things bottles

  • I have a spectra pump and use direct into my MAM bottles. We are using a slow flow nipple and he can still eat fast it seems but doesn’t spit up or have overflow mouthfuls as of now. He has issues with sucking and tongue thrust and he took to these bottles pretty quick

  • We've had good luck with Dr Brown bottles but I'm not sure you can pump into them. The extra parts are also a pain to clean but they really help with baby tummy troubles.
The bottle and pump part washing is seriously the worst.
  • I'm pumping into medela storage bottles and using disposable nipples.
  • I'm using tomee tipee ultimate nipple the slow flow. Baby will get more and faster since they don't have to initiate a let down. Kellymom suggests taking the bottle away for a moment.
  • I'm using Dr.Brown bottles. We haven't had any spit up issues yet. I absolutely hate cleaning them though because there are a million pieces.
  • Avent Naturals bottles have a size 0 nipple, it's called first flow or something like that. That is what we use for my son who is 1 month old. You can also pump right into those bottles with the Spectra pumps
  • Oh, also-

    1) where have other mom’s found the best deals for getting breast milk storage bags (and what brand bags have you tried)?

    2) a Mom in my breastfeeding support group mentioned that her insurance company covers breast milk storage bags fully, for up to 1 year.  Unfortunately my insurance co does not cover them, but I wanted to pass the tip along.

    And

    3) My insurance company *does* cover pump replacement parts if I order through their designated vendor, and will cover replacement parts not only for pumps ordered through the insurance company but also any other model whose parts the vendor carries.  I am definitely going to place an order for 3 sets of parts: one set for the Spectra I got through insurance, and 2 sets for the Medela PISA that was given to me.
  • I love my comotomo! We tried different ones with my son and this was the best. I just pumped into a medela bottle and then poured into bags or snappies. Then decided how much extra to freeze in a bag, then little frozen bag went into gallon bag in freezer.
  • I have Comotomo bottles. They have great reviews for breastfed babies. I’ve used them twice and she takes the bottle without an issue.

  • @curiousfool1 try preemie nipples.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • We started using Comotomo bottles today with no issues.
  • I'm going to look into comotomo bottles. Tommee tippee where "the thing" when DD was born, this LO has a strong suck and tends to pull too much from the bottom.
  • @curiousfool1 I also experienced a fast flow on the Avent bottles.  Either that or this kid just has good suction.  Ha ha I've had good luck with the Mam bottles.
