#1 I think that our reading lists/current reads/pretend book club should be a weekly recurring topic. Any supporters?
#2 I love information, and when I get curious I easily get lost in serious (yet recreational) research. Since I’m a FTM, these two books have been perfect for me, especially since they’re on Audible. I love plugging in and listening to a few chapters while doing the laundry, and other tasks where I can really focus on the book. I’m making DH listen to Jillian Michael’s book with me, we both think she’s funny and I love a lot of her suggestions. The other book is helping me understand the value of midwives and doulas!
What are you all reading?
Do you prefer paper or audio?

All the Light We Cannot See is good! I’m usually not into historical fiction, but I was pleasantly surprised

Oh man, I haven't been reading lately and I miss it. I've been going through a bunch of Roald Dahl books on Audible in the car with my daughter though, and Ready Player One when I'm on my own for the fifth time. Probably because we're calling this baby Ready Player Two and it's been on my mind. Before I started being too busy to read two weeks ago, I was working on a Franzen novel, and The Hate You Give. Love both so far. Need to get back to them.
@christycalifornia, so many people recommended Ready Player One to me when it came out, thank you for reminding me that I need to just jump into it. I know DH has a copy in one of his devices (we each have a Nook and Kindle).
I totally forgot to mention my other reads! I’m also on book four of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, and have recently decided to re-read Peter Hamilton’s Night’s Dawn trilogy because I always get stuck in the middle.

I read Behind Closed Doors not that long ago. It's really good and I think they're turning it into a movie if you like reading before watching. It's definitely more thriller then psychological suspense..not as many twist and turns as Gone Girl or Girl on the Train but it's definitely worth it!
@echocharlietango I stopped at book 5 of wheel of time and it seems so daunting to get back in, but I am discovering a serious love for Brandon Sanderson so I might jump back in just because he finished the series. I just finished his Mistborn trilogy and it might be my fave series ever.
Currently reading The Amber Spyglass for the second time, I reread the whole His Dark Materials series to get ready for Book of Dust. I will read Oathbringer (new Sanderson) when I'm done, at 1200 pages it's an investment so I wanna finish my others before I jump in.
Also reading "The Art of Memoir" to help me through my nanowrimo writing.
I love this. I'm currently reading "You Are A Bad Ass" to help a little with my small business. I love it. It just makes you feel good! I vote for anyone to check it out haha.
I only really have time for audible books. I usually listen to them at work.
What audiobooks are you listening to? I get a lot of use out of my Audible account too
@SmashJam Oh, His Dark Materials is so good! The audio version has a full cast and it's amazing. Meanwhile I haven't read Mistborn yet, but it's on my to-do list.
While I was relaxing at my MIL's house, I finally started reading Battlefield Earth. It's a freebie on Amazon Prime Reading

I love reading! I prefer audibles over actual reading because I love hearing someone tell the story. Highly recommend listening to Ready Player One because It's read by Will Wheaten. Amazeballs!!
I just got done listening to The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I know I will go back and listen to it again.
Also, listening to American Gods. This is a bit harder of a listen because you REALLY need to pay attention to whats happening.
My go-to series to listen to is The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher Narrated by James Marsters. I mean...these books just suck you in. Great urban fantasy/detective fantasy.
I just downloaded Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs complimentary of Amazon Baby Registry (free pregnancy book download). It's pretty damn funny.
@flockofmoosen3 I almost always have a non-fic going. What do you like?
Well, my most recent reads are related to my job (I work at a university). My last couple books were Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Dr Beverly Tatum. I'm also just starting The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. Not exactly light-hearted material. You?
@zombiehoohaa I forgot about free pregnancy book downloads! I need to start a registry just for that, lol, although I currently need nothing and don't know what I would put in there.
@flockofmoosen3 I just picked up The New Jim Crow and am looking forward to starting it this week. I'm in the middle of People to be Loved: Why Homosexuality is Not Just an Issue, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, and The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact. The latter is by a friend of mine, I love all his books. I just finished A Hope More Powerful then the Sea: One Refugee's Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival which was amazing.
Yay new recommendations for my ever growing Goodreads list! I am currently trudging my way through Richelle Mead's Glittering Court series. I loved her Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series and I thought Glittering Court sounded good but its just meh so far. I'm having a hard time finding another great series this year. I read the Selection series by Kiera Cass at the beginning of the year and it was so good! I've also started Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series but have only made it 4 books of the 12(?) so far. I also have the new Archie comics checked out from the library but I haven't had a chance to open them yet.
Any other YA lovers?? I love me some YA.
I am feeling a need to re-read Harry Potter again...might have to just do it!
@zg49 I am a YA lover, mostly fantasy/dystopian fiction, not the touchy feely coming of age stuff. I am reading adult fiction currently but most recently read The City of Ember (old, but hadn't read it), the Matched series, and the Cinder series. I read pretty much all of Rick Riordans books but am not caught up on Apollo or Magnus Chase due to a binge on some fantasy books.
@SmashJam Oh I'm with you on the fantasy/dystopian YA fiction. I've tried some of the coming of age but it just isn't great. Maybe that's why I'm not finding any good stuff lately. The books I'm grabbing seem to be fantasy/dystopian-ish but then just aren't. Like the Glittering court - it was high society meets new world...frontier land. I have been meaning to read Rick Riordan so I might just have to do it!
Re: What we’re reading
Right now I am trying to finish “ All the Light we Cannot See”. It’s so good!!
I prefer good old fashioned books, but occasionally I do like audible.

if anyone is looking for a great audio memoir, Born a Crime by Trevor Noah is FANTASTIC.
