Re: FTM Check In 11/21

  • I feel weird starting this thread but wanted to actually participate in it this week..

    How are things going?
Much better. I've finally kicked most of those horrible first trimester symptoms and can actually participate in my life again!

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
I had my 12 week appt yesterday. It went well and in the ultrasound, the baby was sucking his/her thumb!  <3 I died a little.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?
    Not this week

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Even though I'm usually a dessert person, for Thanksgiving I can't get enough potatoes. My all time favorite are the cheesy potatoes with the corn flakes on top. Since I'm not going to Thanksgiving this year, DH promised he would make them for Christmas.

  • How are things going? Mostly good. Hoping for good news tomorrow!

Appointments upcoming/recent? NT ultrasound tomorrow. I'm a little sad I won't have my Mat21 results before then. I was hoping to have those before so I'd have all the info at once, but alas.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? Not right now...

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Well, I'm vegetarian so.... I'm doing a miso butter and shallot seared green beans with roasted garlic brown butter mashed potatoes and tofu :)
  • @Amphibious22 don't feel weird starting threads! We need more of us to get involved! I know some people are waiting it out until were further along but by that point we will have gotten to know the regulars really well. Those potatoes sound fantastic!

@doxiemoxie212 we have some vegetarians in the family and we always have a tofurkey for them.

    How are things going?
good. Double digits this week! I am feeling a little anxious because I don't have many symptoms and even though I've had a good u/s I worry everyday that things have stopped progressing. I might need to POAS to ease my mind but that wont really help tell me if babe is still on track.

Appointments upcoming/recent? nope. Had my 8 wk appointment a couple weeks ago and going back for the 12 wk on Dec 8th. All the blood work and tests came back normal.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? when did you or do you plan on really getting into the planning like touring hospitals/birth centers, birthing classes, finding a pediatrician and finding a child care provider?

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? I love it all. I am also usually a dessert person but I just love all of the savory Thanksgiving food. I'm not sure I can pick just one I love green bean casserole and stuffing and turkey with cranberry sauce. And...

  • @krashke my hospital won't let me tour it until I'm 1-2 months out from delivery, so huge eye roll there. I think if I get accepted to the in-hospital birth center at the same hospital it's a different situation, though, so probably much sooner. The ladies on the March BMB had a whole thread about hospitals/birth centers, and they all advised touring ASAP in case you don't like what you find out and can look into other options. As for pediatricians, I just filled out information to get baby on a waitlist with a pediatrician in NYC, but I can't imagine that's necessary in most places. Annnnddd as far as birth classes, I have no idea. I've been curious about that too. Especially the ones that are 12 weeks long - like, I don't want to start them too soon, but I also don't want to start too late! Lol. I've watched some youtube videos of ladies talking about the different styles - La Maz, Bradley, Hypno, etc. I found that helpful to at least get a lay of the land... but still confused about when I need to actually DO them.
  • How are things going? Overall pretty good. I'm weaning off my progesterone. Today is my last day taking it every day, so I'll switch to every other day (meaning I won't take it again until Thursday, and then Saturday). So that's helped bc I don't have the side effects of the dosage anymore. Our family & close friends finally all know, so the only thing left is to go public. The fact that we find out the sex next week (NIPT last week) has me wanting to announce sooner rather than later. I was first saying Dec 1 at the earliest, but now I'm thinking tomorrow or thanksgiving. Its hard for me either way bc I'm 11 weeks today, I wanted to be 12 when we went public.

Appointments upcoming/recent? I had NIPT last week, so we are waiting on results (likely early next week). Next appointment is not until Dec 14. Which feels like forever since I've had appointments every weeks since my BFP (weeks 4-10).

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? What do most people do in the second tri? It seems like all I did this trimester is go to the doctor 6x, google various symptoms, worry, and sleep. We'll already know the sex, we'll have an appointment at 14 weeks, then whens the next one 20 weeks?

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? I love all food, its hard to choose I love it all. Mac & cheese, dressing, ugh. Oddly I am big on red potatoes right now, I had them for lunch Friday and Monday.

    @krashke
does your doctor have privileges at any hospital? My doctor works exclusively at Texas Women's. She's literally right across the street. If you expect her to birth your child its your only option. Granted its really the best option in the city.

  • @ffw0617 the group I am with right now delivers at two hospitals so I'm going to start with those two and if I don't like either of them I will look into other ones and I would just have to switch providers. I'm not attached to my OB because I have only seen her to get my IUD taken out and she probably wont even be the one I deliver with.

  • @krashkeoh okay. My OB is apart of a group of doctors (4). The only days she doesn't deliver babies is Wednesday (that's her surgery day) and Sundays are her day off, so you'd have one of the other 3.

  • @krashke I'm in a similar situation to @ffw0617. My OB only delivers at one hospital. I'm okay with it though cause it's a good hospital and only like 5-10 minutes from my house. There's one hospital in San Diego that is like the hospital to give birth at, but it's almost an hour away and I don't want to deal with that hassle.

As for pediatricians and birth classes, I honestly haven't even started thinking about it yet. I probably should since second trimester starts next week..

  • I already have a pediatrician picked out for LO, but that's because I've worked in his office and love how he does things and the staff that work in his office. It's always going to be a long wait during appts because he double/triple books, but he also tends to things ASAP and even goes so far as to give out his personal cell phone # to parents who have kids with severe medical issues (i.e.; my friend has a daughter with a seizure disorder, she was having recurring issues getting through to the office from the call center, so he just gave her his cell phone # for ease). There's no wait list or anything.

As for birth classes (prenatal classes are what my office refers to them as), I have no idea when you're supposed to start them, lol. I figured I'd go with Google on that one. I'm assuming if it's a 12 week class, you should start around 25 weeks? But again, no idea.

AFM: Things are going good, gas is horrible, next appt is in 4 weeks.

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Bread, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce... I love cold turkey sandwiches after the fact. Mayo, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and turkey all on bread. It's amazing.

  • How are things going?
A little better. Morning sickness us better, but if I get hungry (pretty much hourly), I've gotta eat QUICK or I'll feel sick in short order!
    Appointments upcoming/recent?
NT ultrasound yesterday and met with my perinatologist, Counsyl blood test taken and meet my ob Friday.
Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?
What are your thoughts on artificial sugars, diet soda? I know I've seen over all they are acceptable, however, I feel really guilty drinking them.  I've mainly been drinking water to avoid diet sodas, but have drank some regular soda which bothers me as they are very high in sugar and calories. Thoughts?
GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

    Pumpkin pie!
  • @stephcat421 you just literally described my symptoms exactly. It's nice to know I'm not alone in the "as soon as I get hungry I need to eat" camp. I waited too long for lunch today and ended up dry heaving and not being able to eat much.

Also I just realized that I stole the GTKY question from the STM thread. Definitely not on purpose, I just don't read those threads. Decided to stalk them after some drama was mentioned in weekly randoms. Sorry for not being original!

  • @Amphibious22 Yes! Dry heaving from waiting too long. I'm really trying to "listen to my body", but trying to be mindful of my waist too. It sounds so selfish I know, but I've gained 7 lbs first trimester when I read your not supposed to gain any. Just concerned for the snowball effect and effect on my back and other functionality of my body! Also checked in on the STM check in, don't know why I haven't thought to just read these for knowledge?! Plus, you never know where the drama will pop up ;)
  • @stephcat421 I have given up diet sodas because of the artificial sweeteners. I was also on a crystal light kick that I’ve stopped. I only had diet soda maybe a couple times a week so I’ve decided to just go for regular when I need it and just not worry about the calories. I was also a little concerned with how much weight I had already gained and my dr told me not to worry about it because it’s mostly water weight from the bloat.

  • @krashke thank you! That sounds like what I've done. I'm going to talk to my doc tomorrow and the weight gain. My PCP approved me to continue weight watchers on the maintenance plan while pregnant which I was onboard with until of course I needed to eat all carbs all day to keep from throwing up for the past 7 weeks. Thanks again for sharing, it helps feeling like I'm on the right track.
  • How are things going?
So/so. I wish I felt more "pregnant". Currently, I have minimal symptoms, just breast tenderness and fatigue. It worries me that something is wrong...impatiently waiting for my first US.
    Appointments upcoming/recent?
US appt scheduled for 12/11/17. The OB I go to only sees you for US at 12 weeks and 20 weeks, unless you have a history of complications.
Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?
Anyone else have to wait until 12 weeks to have US? I feel like most women on here have had an US at 8 weeks or earlier.
GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
    Savory: cheesy potatoes
Sweet: Pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting! Yumm

  • How are things going?
9 weeks and Nauseous. Like all the time. I’m praying that the second tri brings some relief.

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
Had our first ultrasound today! And next appt in 2 weeks, migraines are occurring way more frequently now so the doc wants to check that out.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?
    Not right now :)

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
@Amphibious22 yes! I am right there with you on cheesy potatoes! I’ve been craving scalloped potatoes, but eating instant cheesy mashed potatoes for the past few days until I can make scalloped for Thanksgiving.
    <a href="http://www.thebump.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Pregnancy"><img src="http://global.thebump.com/tickers/tt1daff1" alt=" Pregnancy Ticker" border="0" /></a>
  • @krashke @doxiemoxie212 Our hospital offers tours as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed (though, as @ffw0617 and @Amphibious22 mentioned, the choice here is a bit of a foregone conclusion once you've selected an OB and it's more of a sanity check than anything else). You can sign up for its birthing and parenting classes once you hit the second trimester, but they recommend waiting until 20-ish weeks if you want to be more 'in sync' with the majority of the women in your classes. Childcare... oof. I'm told at 9 weeks, here in Houston, I'm already behind on looking into that, but felt ridiculous making appointments to tour daycare options before I'm even ready to tell extended family and friends about the pregnancy, you know? And I hadn't even thought about finding a pediatrician!! Adding to the to-do list...

How are things going? Good. 9 weeks tomorrow (something to be thankful for!) and still relatively few symptoms - I'm just really tired and occasionally feel a bit nauseous/off. I haven't been eating as healthily as I'd like, but every day is a chance to do better.

Appointments upcoming/recent? No, sadly. I went in yesterday for a blood draw so they can re-check my thyroid levels, but the next appointment's not for another 2 weeks.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? Nope

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? ROLLS. Buttery, buttery roles. And the fried onion topping off of the green bean casserole :)
  • @emiliadkay I’m in a unique situation because it’s manhattan. Just different security/volume of humans issues making everything more complicated lol. I need to remember to keep writing that lol since most of my experience with hospitals for l&d will be so strange and different from what I understand.

    Good Morning ladies!

    How are things going?
Pretty well. I'm 10w6d and the aversion to any foods besides simple carbs is lifting. I can now eat most varieties besides a few things that still gross me out. Sadly, vegetables seem to be the last items to come back to the acceptable list. I'm trying to treat myself like a 3 year old and sneak them in foods, like adding veggies into the pasta sauce. Still no soreness in the breasts, which seems so crazy to me that I've had none. Ovarian pain is gone but lots of stretching feelings in the stomach. I am constantly gagging if my stomach even gets remotely empty. It's strange though bc I know I won't throw up; just gagging. Oh and headaches, lots of headaches.

Appointments upcoming/recent? I finally have my first ultrasound next week at 12 weeks. I am grateful I've never had any issues that warranted a scan earlier, but so many people get to see and hear their baby so early that this wait is killing me. I am terrified they will look at the screen and see no heartbeat or something terrible. It's an awful fear. Everyone keeps telling to me chill because I'm not having any bleeding, etc, but clearly they've never heard of some of these things happening.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? Not yet  :)

GTKY: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? I really love it all. The turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans. There is just something special about the combination that we only get once a year. I am glad I am past the worst MS phase and am actually looking forward to the meal because last month at the the Halloween party we had, I couldn't stand to smell anything, look at anything or even think about tasting it.
  • emiliadkay I'm trying to get my mom to open a childcare center here in Houston by Aug 2018. She has more than 15 years experience teaching VPK (PreKindergarden) at the two most elite centers in Florida and Georgia as well as degrees in business and early childhood education. She's BEYOND over due for starting her own center. I'm hoping with my & my husband's backing she will do it next year.
