Started this selfishly to complain about my OB's office yet again!
So, two weeks ago I made an appointment to get a flu shot today. I wanted to make sure I got it in time so that it's kicked in before I have to get on a plane in December, but I wanted to wait until I was 12 weeks. Then on Friday when my Mat21 results came back inconclusive I asked if I could just have the blood draw added on to my appointment - they said yes, no problem.
Show up today, and the non-nurse (??) leads me into the exam room, and says, "Okay, you can have a seat there, and I'll take your blood, but the nurse isn't in today, so I don't know how we'll do the flu shot." And I was like ummmmm that's sort of the entire reason I made this appointment? WTF? So she says I can go to the hospital's other office location a couple blocks away, which is fine except I show up and they're like who are you, why the eff are you here? And also it was SO EFFING CROWDED.
TL;DR, I did get the flu shot and my mat21 blood re-draw but it took over an hour when it should've taken 5 minutes.
@catlady1215 I swear to god, my head nearly exploded. (She was actually the most gentle with the blood draw of anyone I've ever encountered, so like, wtf?)
My peeve of today is I went in for my blood draw for my Mat21 and had the appointment with the genetic specialist first and she said that she likes to wait until 12 weeks so she didn’t want me to take my blood today. With my holiday plans being how they are I’m not going to be home and available to get my blood drawn for several more weeks. Which puts me at over 14 weeks. Which I feel very bi*chy about. Like are you serious. I know that 10.5 weeks is early but can we at least try. It’s perfectly ok according to the lab. I didn’t have the brain to fight back and just left. Now deciding whether or not I should call back in and demand a draw before thanksgiving Day or if the genetic specialist is the God and whatever I ask for won’t change what I’m aloud under her. So mad.
@tammy574 given what I've gone through, I wish I waited until later than 10+3. That said, call mat21 because I believe they have labs all over the country that can take your blood - it doesn't have to be with your OB's office.
@fantasticmrsfox I guess because it's a holiday week? But does not give me a ton of faith were I to need something more serious during a holiday week! lol I guess FX I don't go early near memorial weekend???
@doxiemoxie212 - I'm so confused... I mean, in my experience, it's usually RNs and LPNs who are working in a physician's office. They don't usually have a phlebotomist on staff because between the other two professionals - someone should be able to draw some blood, so, money saving. And also, when the RNs aren't there, the LPNs can still give test results and stuff, while a phlebotomist can't. If an LPN can't give you your flu shot... they probably shouldn't be an LPN...
@doxiemoxie212 hopefully that was just a one time staffing issue!
My bitchfest was going to be about how one of the two offices of the company I work for is closed for the day after Thanksgiving while the office I work in was supposed to stay open. But I guess enough people complained and now my office gets the day off too. Hurray!
