Car Sickness

Any other ladies experiencing car sickness?

I'm getting sick when DH and I go anywhere and he drives. We went a few miles up the road to pick up a pizza over the weekend and I threw up in the parking lot. It's terrible!

Any tips on how to help it? Or deal with it??

Re: Car Sickness

  • Agh  me too, it's the worst. No suggestions other than I keep a plastic ziplock bag in my purse now and have become very talented at puking in it while I drive .
  • I kept a beach pail in the car after a suggestion by (I think) @suchaglencoco and it really came in handy!  Much easier than puking into a bag.  The only downside is having to clean it out. And I was more likely to get sick anytime I looked down at my phone while the car was moving so avoid that if you can.  Other than, I don't know of anything else to can do unfortunately but it will go away eventually!!

  • Yup. Beach pail all the way.
  • beach pail with a waste basket liner? That could help with the cleaning it out issue
  • DH drove for Uber for a few months. When he did, he ordered barf bags from Amazon to keep in his car. He had some left over, so I've used a few. I like them because they're big and they have a plastic piece at the top to keep it open. Maybe look into those?

  • @mmb4532 I find I have a tendency to feel more carsick if I have an empty stomach. So if I go anywhere with SO and he's driving I try to have something before we leave, even if we are running out for dinner.
  • Ginger helps.
  • Thanks ladies! Luckily I've only thrown up the one time, the others have just made me nauseous and given me a terrible headache. I'm going to try all of these to see what helps!
  • I feel you. I don't have it as bad as some ladies on here but definitely some. I have been keeping really strong breath mints in the car that help when I start to feel off.
  • I used to not get car sick and could read, craft, etc. in the car. Now if I so much as read something for a minute or two, I feel icky. I can't ride in the back seat, either, which doesn't help our long trips to visit family with the DVD player on for DD. All I can offer is to make sure you're not distracted by reading/watching anything, crack the window for some fresh air (temperatures allowing), and if there are curves, ask your H to take them slow. On roads traveled frequently, make note of good spots to pull over if the need arises.

  • What @JNCPro3130 said! I have a bulk order from Amazon of the little blue bags in my car for this. If I drive, I'm less likely to get sick, maybe you too? My H used to always drive and when I was PG with my first I HAD to drive and all those memories came back when he drove once I was KU.
  • I wore those motion sickness wrist bands in my first pregnancy almost all the time—especially during drives, but I ended up just being the driver most often to really avoid the sickness. So far I’m doing the driving this time around too  :#
