2nd Trimester Check In For The Week of November 13th

Good morning!

This is a weekly check-in for those in their 2nd trimester: weeks 14 through the end of week 27.

Congrats to all the strong ladies who have made it this far! It's such a great feeling and we've all accomplished so much! We are now 1 week closer to the end of this especially long journey we call "infertility."

Please post below a little about yourself, how many beans you have growing inside, if you have found out the sex(es) and what your EDD is. Please also let us know how far you've made it on your journey and when your next appointment is and what for. If I'm missing anyone from this list, or you are new to the 2nd tri, please let me know and I will add you.

Please let us know when you have graduated to 3rd trimester so that I can take you off.

  • @amanning2011 twin girls! How exciting :) names are beautiful.
I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow and actually just got back from my baby moon yesterday! It was a little earlier than I would have liked, but I'm a teacher and we had time off last week so we went for it. It was indeed nice to have some quiet time to relax together though, and I'm glad we went.

  • @amanning2011 Wow I can't believe they didn't pick up twins prior to 21w! That's amazing news.

AFM, I'm not planning a baby moon. We had a Euro trip around Labor Day which was a lot of fun. Maybe a trip after the baby is born? We will see.

  • Good Morning ladies. I just got to work from my apt. I'm 26w3d with baby girl.  She was very busy this morning and we had a hard time with the doppler but we finally got a 157 read which is a little high but no concerns. I did talk to the doc about the blood thinner and I'm ok now he said maternal med had the information backwards its 18hr for Lovenox and 4hrs for Heparin so I should have no problems with delivery. I now have apts set up every 2 weeks till 36w.

  • Im 23+4 with b/g twins
    No new appointments this week
Still feeling the same. Movements have changed.. i used to mostly feel baby A (boy) on the left and since i hit weeks i have felt both of them moving like crazy!!
I will not be taking a babymoon either..
@thucks you are getting so close to 28wks!! Im glad you got your questions answered about the blood thinner.  157 is a great heartrate! My girl has been in the high 150s to 160s for a while now.
@amanning2011 2 girls will be awesome!!
  • Hello ladies. 17+3 weeks with a little boy! Doctor appointment last Friday went good. His hb was 157, he kept moving around a lot. My next appointments are both on Dec 8th. Anatomy scan lol and OB appt. We are going to try and take a babymoon for our wedding anniversary which is Dec. 28th.
    @amanning2011 how exciting 2 little girls :)
@thucks glad your appointment went well and your question was answered.

  • Hey ladies!!
17w 3d along with a little unknown bean at his point. Fairly certain it's a boy but doctors won't confirm because of standards and risks.
Yesterdays OB appt went well. Baby has migrated to right side of my body and little kicks/flutters are so amazing. HR is strong and holding in the 150's.
Doctor put me on Diclegis on the account of not gaining weight and still vomiting. So maybe baby will show itself soon!
Next appt is anatomy scan at a contracted clinic as my current clinic lost there OB Radiologist. I still have to schedule this but should be around 12/5.
Next OB on 12/29; longest stretch of time to see a doctor but I am sure having an anatomy scan in 3 week will ease my heart.
  • Hey everyone! So happy to be reading so much good news this week! I'm 16+5 with twins, and anxiously awaiting my anatomy scan in 2 weeks! It will be nice to know which baby is which and where they are so I know which one I'm feeling.

We just got back from Seattle, but it was primarily to visit family which isn't a babymoon. I'm nervous about traveling after 24ish wks with my twins cause I have a friend who ended up delivering at 28 and I definitely don't want that! But I think we will do a staycation of some variety and just spend time together relaxing and such, cause I definitely want to take advantage of it while we can!
  • @thucks that is so Amazing!! There really arent alot of people these days that would do something like that!!
  • Needing encouragement.

My Quad screens came back today positive. Instead of a normal anatomy scan at/around 20 weeks I am being referred to an advanced maternal medicine OB for U/S and further testing. They want me in as early as next week. Closest specialty clinic is 2.5 hours away and know that if is bad news I won't be able to collect myself for a drive home. I miss my husband. He is coming home from deployment early for PCS orders but that is still 3 weeks away.

  • @Prayingfor2 OMG I'm so sorry did they tell you anything about what was abnormal? Is there anyone that can go with you? a family member or close friend?

  • @Prayingfor2 That's nervewracking. I just had my blood drawn today for the AFP (I believe it is part of the quad screen) and I don't know what to expect. I have read online that false positives are VERY common with quad screens. Most of the time the baby is ok.

  • @thucks
OB read results to me over phone. She was very empathetic and urged for me to schedule the U/S with AMM as soon as I get the referral.
She gave me the book stats; 1 in 150 risk for Down Syndrome and that it could be a false positive. There are no genetic markers but age plays a part. It helps to research that environmental factors do not play a role in risk.

What bothers me most is I asked for a NT U/S in first tri but they were unable to do so because of cost and military healthcare standards say it's not necessary. My OB explained Monday at my appointment that although the NT U/S is more reliable in results without the Quad Screen bloodwork it doesn't give accurate info either.

My sister told me she could drive down and go with me at the moments notice but she lives 10.5 hours away and I would feel bad.

@helloworld9, thank you and good luck to you. I understand possibility of false positives but it is still scary as we have came so far and it seems that every other visit holds some new risk.

My husband is trying to be supportive and he went to talk to the PA after we talked just to clarify his understanding and asked me to just wait for further testing but before freaking too much. Lol He knows me too well.
  • My OB also told me that I didn't need NT or NIPT at my 12w appointment, so I didn't do it. So you're saying the NT is more reliable than the quad screen? That's infuriating. Why would they recommend quad screen and not the NT? I think my OB suggested no NT for me because I had to go to another clinic to get it done.

@helloworld9 The NT Scan and B/W is most reliable combined but our insurance won't cover it unless it's medically necessary.  Basically our insurance will cover the b/w only but now that the results are positive they will have to cover the specialty clinics. Military healthcare is infuriating!! But we are thankful for it just the same!
  • I see. I hope everything turns out ok.

  • @Prayingfor2 praying that you are able to find someone to go with you and that its just a false positive.
  • Lurking*** @prayingfor2 I'm so sorry there are questions on your quad screen. Having a spouse on deployment is so tough. I would have your sister come down. I know its a long trip for her but if she offered it will be so much better to have someone there even if its good news.

@Prayingfor2 I'm sorry you're having to deal with the stress :( I hope it really is a false positive and there's nothing more to worry about.

  • @prayingfor2 definitely have your sister come down! People don't offer to do major things like that unless they really mean it, so don't feel bad at all! Also, good luck with the further testing! I will definitely be hoping and praying for you that it is a false positive, but you know what, even if your baby has downs syndrome, it's not the end of the world. I have a cousin with downs and she is about 8 years old now and definitely a handful, but her parents have been really good about getting her the proper help and therapies and attention she needs, and she is not only very sweet and loving, but is also highly functional. She loves dancing and singing Disney songs at the top of her lungs and is great at making new friends and playing with other kids at the playground. No matter what happens, you are not alone. I sincerely hope that you don't have to deal with anything further on the baby front (we're only here if this road has already taken us through hell a time or twenty), but regardless, there is definitely still hope. Sending love and hugs!
  • @Prayingfor2 My OB's office called me and said I have elevated results from the AFP for downs as well. 1:225 or something like that, I don't recall the precise number. Now they want me to come in for an NIPT bloodwork. Also nervous...
