  • @suchaglencoco I would be so mad. My MIL lets the girls play with pens and markers at her house all the time (under supervision) but then they get all pissed at me because I won't let them have them at our house.  Like, no, I'm here with you alone all evening and there's no way I'm letting you have them because I have to be making dinner and doing other things, and I can't keep an eye on you 24/7 while you're using them, so just no.
@gildah Mine is definitely not hard and is quite obviously just rolls of fat.  The people who've been saying it are good friends of mine, so I don't get *as* snarky as I would if it were an acquaintance or a stranger, but it's still slightly annoying.  When one of them said it today, I grabbed the roll of fat and started jiggling it up and down to show them that it was most definitely NOT baby.

  • I have only been puking late at night but I just randomly puked in the middle of the day. Wtf. Screw you HG.
  • Also I definitely have a small 14 week bump.
  • @jhysmath I thought I was going to get so much done on maternity leave and catch up on so many shows. Omg that was a joke. I still laugh at myself about it. Also, just fyi, even though I know it's not always possible, it's technically illegal to work when your on FMLA. But I know what you mean, my maternity sub thought he could just walk in everyday without looking at my plans like it was a one day sub job everyday and woukd text me for shit he should have planned for the day before if he only woukd have just prepped for the next day on my plan. Ughhh, I'm still pissed about that.
  • @cups4 we have only had males out on paternity leave since I've been here and they only took 2 weeks off and our principal and everyone else complained about their sub plans, but I have no idea how I will be able to come up with sub plans when I'm told or subs can't teach math. We're a small district and I think we have a total of 4 subs all of which have no education background and are just warm bodies to make sure the kids don't kill each other. I'm hoping I can convinced an old retired colleague to fill in for those few weeks. Also my senior class activities are stipend work and not part of my contract, I also won't be taking fmla just sick time. I'll only need 3 weeks if all goes as planned and we're allowed to take 6 weeks off sick time for a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a cesarean.
  • @sandbar517, yeah DH let's them play with pencils and pens while he cooks. I do not allow that so it' obnoxious. Especially because we're mostly on the same page parenting wise. He just likes to be more lax than me. I think part if it is because he isn't around them all day every day like me.
  • Wtf Canadian clothing prices.  I went shopping today for a winter jacket for my 19mo and the first store I went to had 1 option in 2 different patterns for 110$!  For one season!  The next store had their outerwear on 40% off so I ended up spending half that.
And wtf me, I swear I grabbed 18-24 months but when I got home and tried it on my kid I saw it was a 3T.  He's all stocked up for next year. And I hope either this baby is a boy or if it's a girl, she'll like dinosaurs :)
  • @tincupchalice, I was so taken by surprise with it all. Last pregnancy no one touched it, not even my mom or mil without me telling them to.

@squashandlaces ughhh tell me about it. I spent a good hour at the mall and left empty handed and pissed off for that same reason.

Do you have any good buy/trade/sell pages for moms in your city on Facebook?
After my frustrating mall experience I lucked out and bought a 2 piece gently used OshKosh snowsuit for $30 last week off mine. And it's the good kind that has the extra buttons and band on the inside so if you take them sledding the snow doesn't go up their jacket.
Check yours out if you've got one!
  • @cups4 @jhysmath Maternity sub plans suck.  I missed the last month of school when I had DS.  I left a box for each class with a folder labeled with the handouts for each day and super detailed plans.  I had to do all my IEPs before I went on leave.  It is so hard to hand over your kids to someone else for an extended period of time.

@mileswithmyles  I had detailed plans too.  It's not like a regular job where someone can pick it up as they go along.  And then you have those terrible subs you are just stuck with.  I had a copy of my planner and the the notes and assignment we did each day and this guy figured he could just wing it every. single. day.  I had a student teacher last year that I did not love, but at least she would know what was going on in this school and my expectations.  It will only be for the last month so my kids would be doing state testing and then a final (more relaxed) end to the year.  Ugh, I can't believe that may be my only option.
  • @onesmallcoconut I just joined a mom's buy and sell group :) Thanks for the suggestion. One of my husband's co-workers has a son 2 years older than ours and we get boxes of clothes once he's grown out of them. It's saved us a lot of money and I'm definitely not opposed to gently used stuff!
  • @cups4 I was so glad that my instructional assistant and I had worked together for a long time.  She could read my mind and knew exactly how things were supposed to be done, so she kept my sub in check, haha.  My sub was okay, but I kept getting emails from my students asking me to come back early.  I was working with students with Asperger's at the time and the change was really hard for them.

This time around, since I am out of the classroom, I am hoping it will be a little easier.  I will just have to make sure all my people are finished with their Induction work and that my final reports are done.  I will miss the last HR panel meeting, but my boss agreed to represent me at the meeting so that  I don't have to worry.

@squashandlaces excellent!! They are good for toys too. For xmas last year I managed to find one of those big wooden activity cubes that typically sell for $90 - $120 for only $20!

We got a ton of hand me downs in the beginning from my step sister but now are on our own as he's outgrown them all. It was incredibly helpful though!

    Edited for typo

@suchaglencoco I would not have been okay with that waitress.  I would've asked for someone else.
@justsuzie your Lifetime comment made me bust out laughing in my cubicle.  So creepy!  ETA Anytime someone seems a little *too* interested in my pregnancy, symptoms, etc. that thought is always in the back of my mind.  They're going to stalk me, murder me when I'm 8 months along, and steal my baby because they told some boyfriend they were pregnant to get them to stay with them.

  • @cups4 @mileswithmyles

I will have a group of seniors, a group of juniors, and a group of freshmen this spring. With the seniors as long as I can get my observation from the community college to come earlier this year in my running start courses I should be able to just end their school year when I leave. They will have finals a week after that but I have my stats kids do a presentation for me so hopefully they can just study for their other courses and work on graduation activities at that point. With my juniors I should be able to finish things up and have them just work on their final project a week and then they can twiddle their thumbs for a week and not bother coming in for their final date. With the freshmen, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I hate the fact that we don't ever get subs that can actually "teach" so I feel like all I can give is busy work. How is busy work going to prepare my freshmen for their final? I also don't know do subs do grading or do I have to come in and get work to grade? I think what is expected of me is that I do get the grading or at least that is how it was for my colleagues on paternity leave. They came in once a week and grabbed their work to take home and grade. I really have no idea how this is going to work, but I am a little bit pleased that I didn't get pregnant in August like I wanted to so that I could have 7 weeks off before summer. I have no idea how I would have dealt with planning for 7 weeks of sub plans with subs who aren't allowed to teach.
  • @jhysmath I did not have to grade while I was on leave.  The sub was being paid "long-term" rates, meaning that they were responsible for grading the assignments and entering them into our grading system.   I did leave the sub rubrics and answer keys.

I would think it would be different for paternity leave.  At least for us, maternity leave is considered medical leave and I had to provide a doctor's note.  For paternity leave in our district, they get 5 days, which would not lead to "long-term" status for that sub.  DH is also a teacher in the same district as me and he will likely just not grade for that week and catch up when he comes back.
  • Because of how small my library is, I don't get FMLA.  I'm kind of glad, because there will be some things I just CAN'T miss unless they get a sub for me at the library.  I just don't see it happening.  I would like to take 6 weeks off after the baby comes, but Summer Reading starts the beginning of June, and I don't feel like I can miss that.
