I've been running 3x a week. Two 2m runs and one 4m run. I want to add in either a 3rd 2m run or 2 yoga sessions.
Edited to add in details from this mornings workout: 2 miles in under 32 minutes, such a slow pace, but I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen. Also, had to stop at 1 mile and drink water. I have a 4 mile race tomorrow morning... I'm sure I will be so slow, as it is a super hilly course.
@ajsanders-2 I have always wanted to lift weights! I never got around to researching and getting a schedule set. What is your schedule with the weights?
@Katm89 we actually go to a personal trainer, who plans out the workouts each day, Monday is leg day, Tuesday is arms, Wednesday is cardio, Thursday is arms, and Friday is legs. Each day has a touch of cardio in there was well.
I have been doing strength/cardio 4x a week and yoga 2x per week. Try to do a long walk the remaining day. Limiting myself to 30 min workouts so I don’t overdo it
I run between 3 and 4 miles 5 or 6 times a week. I really want to keep it up as long as possible throughout this pregnancy so I can try to keep my weight gain in a healthy range this time around (I gained 80 lbs with each of my last two, lost most of it, but still...). I also do some light strength training when/if I feel like it.
@Katm89 You should stop and take water breaks! I take 2 or 3 water breaks during my runs. I have this awesome little water bottle I got from Amazon that has a strap that slides over your hand. (I hate carrying anything while running). And who cares how fast you go?! A slow run is better than no run.
@CareBear622 I hate drinking during runs, when I did my long runs before DD I never brought water. I better get used to water breaks lol. and true slow runs are better than nothing, but man my SIL ran a marathon pregnant and runs an 8 min mile. Makes me feel like an idiot. Side note about the weight gain. I read a book last pregnancy called "Expect Better" and it had a lot of studies in it about myths and such... and it proved that working out didn't have much of an effect on weight gain, but it did have a significant difference in labor progress. I will say as a FTM my labor was only 7.5 hours and I worked out my entire pregnancy last time. I gained 46 pounds...but I ate a lot of pizza let's be honest. I am have 8 pounds I never lost from my DD. I am hoping to maintain for a while.
I’m determined to be part of this club this pregnancy. I gained 65 lbs last time and really want to try to avoid that this go round. I usually make it to the gym three days a week. Usually cardio twice and I also take body pump once a week. I’m pretty sure I had SPD at the end of my last pregnancy and I’m afraid of making it worse so I need to talk to my doc about that. I’d really like an easier third tri so I’m hoping working out will help with that. I’m also hoping the fact that I’m no longer at a sedentary office job (with catered lunches) will make a difference. My little sister is getting married in October and I gotta fit into a dress!
Side note: I go to weight watchers at my job, so I plan to continue during the first trimester, so work doesn't know about the baby. Last time I was pregnant I quit WW at 3w5d and everyone suspected and since I am applying for another position in the company I will not be telling anyone til around 15 weeks. Anyone else watching what they eat? Tracking my food helps me from not going overboard!
@Katm89 ugh, bummer about working out not helping with weight gain. I don't really need any help in the labor progress department...with both of my girls I went from 3 cm to 10 in like an hour, haha. Still gonna keep up on it though. If nothing else, all the endorphins definitely make me a happier pregnant lady.
@julesf817 I am super determined to keep up with eating well and working out too. I’m so excited but also mad that I happened to get pregnant at my highest weight ever so I am terrified of gaining a lot of weight (more than I need to to be healthy) and want to make it as easy as possible to lose it on the back end.
Also, I know they say it's safe to continue being active at whatever level you were before getting KU. Is that like "right" before? I have slacked the last month, but would like to get back into working out (light weights, light cardio). Is it safe even if I took the last month off? Just take it easy?

@julesf817 I really want to succeed in this group too! I was really bad the first time around and gained almost 50 pounds and almost never exercised. This time around I have a pregnancy workout DVD that has a different cd for each month.
DH and I have been doing crossfit for about 6 months now. But, I literally have lost NOTHING. I don't look in better shape, if anything I've gained weight. Food is a huge struggle for us, so we tried to get it under control for this month.
@katm89 We're trying now especially since I'm pregnant. Does WW help you out? My step mom had huge success with it when she stayed focused.
Props to all the ladies who run. I don't think I could run if my life depended on it.
@gspmom21 ww is great, but you are not allowed to be on it while pregnant. Talk to your doctor because mine had a good food eating plan. Ww is good because it's portioned and if you're still hungry you eat veggies and fruit so it encourages you to make healthier choices.
@MrsMiller8588 from what I remember from my previous research with my last pregnancy they are concerned about your heart not being able to keep up with the extra blood flow. So I think if your heart is used to it your ok. I took some time off running last pregnancy and was able to pick it back up slowly second trimester. Also, they don't want you to pull something BEC you can overextend your joints. I did t25 last pregnancy and liked that. Side note... Shaun T is expecting twins through a surrogate right now!
Wanting to keep up with my runs, but I'm just so TIRED! Plus I think my boobs are bigger already, and they were substantial to begin with, and so SORE! Any extra motion is painful. I may drop down to walks at least, get me and my dogs outside and moving. I've done yoga in the past, but not while pregnant, and I'm thinking that may be good to look into as the RLP is real, and my last baby really pulled my spine out of alignment. I gotta try and keepy core strong this pregnancy.
@MrsMiller8588 I’ve done shift shop, 21 day fix, I’m doing hard core 22 right now. I actually increased my activity level during my first slowly and it was fine since I had a lot of extra fluff and losing some was actually helpful. They have a couple of pregnancy workouts on there now too
I cut back on the workouts quite a bit when we were having trouble conceiving, and quit running because I felt like I was needlessly burning carbs. My tentative plan is to lift 2x a week and yoga 2x a week. I've done hot yoga for a long time, and I think I've found a studio that's more "warm" than hot - to me, where I never feel over-heated. But I'm hoping to continue it unless my doctor freaks me out - anyone else?
I run M-F but now that its getting to the colder months I will probably do more in home work outs because I hate the cold LOL - right now on rainy days I do the 21 day fix work outs
lindsayleigh1989 I did P90X almost my whole second pregnancy (like till 7.5 months because when you're that big its hard to do a lot of moves lol) and I loved it! I'm convinced its the reason I was able to have a very successful VBAC and went into labor all on my own. I felt so much better in that pregnancy than I did my first, which is why I plan on keeping active this pregnancy too!
The dream: Pre-baby I was a pretty active person and hope to maintain that this pregnancy. The reality: Last pregnancy I had horrible sciatic that would make me drop to the floor starting around 8 weeks and therefore couldn’t run or do too much exercise. Instead I do a lot of walking and will continue during this pregnancy as much as I can. I have been doing prenatal stretches every evening since finding out I was pregnant in home of not having as much sciatic pain this time. Although fighting the exhaustion from carrying a 30 lb two year old everywhere sometimes seems like my limit.
@celainev same on the sciatica!! It was by far my worst and most persistent symptom. I had to teach my last 6 months before birth in a rolling chair. It was the worst. I'm already scared for this pregnancy because the last one pulled my spine out of alignment and now I carry my weight on the vertibrae right over my sciatic nerve. If this pregnancy is at all a repeat of the first, my run/walk plan may just be a pipe dream. Fingers crossed for us both that we make it through with minimal back probs!
My last pregnancy I basically did nothing except the odd walk here and there...mixture of exhaustion and also I hate working out. Found Barre last year and I am HOOKED. I love how I can feel my body getting stronger each time I do it and have measurable improvements. I strive for about 4x a week, trying to bump up to 5. I am starting to modify though to be on the safe side...for food I eat mostly paleo though I definitely splurge and I am working in dairy for the calcium. Breakfast lately is some version overnight oats with almond milk and Greek yogurt.
Definitely excited to follow this check in. Though my last pregnancy was "fine" and everyone was healthy, I feel I could've eaten better, excerised more, ect. Maybe I'll have more energy this go around?
*********TW*********""*** I had a tiny bit of brown spotting last night and of course cried my eyes out and overreacted. I am worried about my 4 mile race today.
I am going to try to be more active this pregnancy. Last time, I was in so much pain all the time, and honestly it never went away after I delivered. My chiropractor said parts of my body are really inflamed still and not sure why it didn't go away after pregnancy. I know strengthening my core will help. I also struggle to find the time. I'm often gone 12 hours for work (long commute) and then with taking care of the little one, I just don't know how to fit it in. I really want to start prenatal yoga, I feel like it will help with the pain too.
Is anyone here a vegetarian? I am, and really struggling to not just eat carbs allll the time. I don't eat eggs and limit dairy, so breakfast is really hard for me.
@celainev I hear you on that sciatica!! I was a server during my last pregnancy and it hit me like a truck around 5months. The stretching helped wonders though thankfully! That's probably my only motivation to keep up with yoga and stretching this time around.
@Katm89 I'm sure everything is just fine! I had a little brown spotting with my first and he turned it just fine. Stay hydrated in your race and good luck!
@zande2016 I'm not really a vegetarian but I don't eat much meat out of preference. Pretty much only when I'm cooking for DH. But no eggs and dairy! I don't know how you do it. I always joke that I could go vegan no problem but I just can't give up cheese.
I've got arthritis in my wrists and shoulder and a temperamental back that makes me feel waaaaay older than 25. But I guess I'm one of the lucky ones- For some reason with my first pregnancy all of those problems went away (aside from general pregnancy issues). And I didn't get a flare up for over a year after his birth! I hope that happens again.
@acunamatada I don't miss meat at all, and I only really miss the convenience of eggs. But cheese...yeah, that's the reason I haven't been able to fully commit to being vegan. For now I am just limiting it. It'll be interesting to see if pregnancy makes me crave meat.
@acunamatada do you follow a specific stretch routine? I worked full time nursing during my last pregnancy and was in charge of three floors with elevators that were for residents only!!
@Katm89 That is very interesting to me! I only made it to 36 weeks last time. I gained 40+ pounds but also had a short 7 hour labor. Worked out until the day I went in to labor.
My exercise habits haven’t been great the past month with an almost one year old and a very busy work life, but this just gave me the extra motivation I need - reminds me why it’s so important!

I definitely want to be more active this time around. I gained 39lbs and only lost 20-25 lbs of it. I played rec soccer until almost 5months pregnant, but it was just an hour and a half, once a week. And then after I stopped that, I went to a random work out class here and there, and then random walks, but nothing consistent for the last half. I also was sick with MS all day and could only seem to keep down carbs. I am definitly wanting this time to be some kind of improvement over last time . I have been going to a workout class 3+ times a week and plan to continue until the end. It's a light weight, high rep + some cardio and just an hour long. I used to be a runner, but my knees are keeping me from getting back into that. Anyway, good luck to you ladies! Keep up the good work!
Question: is anyone going into this pregnancy at a lower weight than a previous pregnancy?
I have an almost one year old and am about 7lbs below my normal/pre-first-pregnancy weight (130 lbs) - primarily just due to breastfeeding. I only nurse a couple times a day now and plan to slowly wean, but I’m just curious if that extra 7 lbs will come back VERY quickly with this new pregnancy. Lol I gained around 40 lbs last time and would like to stay around that, but it is what it is!
Anyone have experiences to share?
