June 2018 Moms

Due Date Check in: Second week of June (8-14)

I'm tired of the other questions and no one has started this yet so I'm making up my own questions...

What name(s) are you considering?

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth?

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends?

Who wants to start next week's check in?

 Daisypath Anniversary tickers

Re: Due Date Check in: Second week of June (8-14)

  • What name(s) are you considering?
We're into traditional names.  My rule is that if someone reads it they can pronounce it and if they hear it they can spell it.  Naming people is hard.  With two boys already I don't know how we'll pick another boy name.

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth?
We'll find out this time.  We found out with DS1 and were Team Green with DS2.

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends?
This is not a myth/legend.  A woman on one of my previous BMBs (who I got to be good friends with and have met repeatedly in real life) had her third child at home... in the toilet.  Her labor came on so quick/strong as back labor she didn't realize how far she was until it was too late.  Her husband had called 911, but the baby was there before the ambulance arrived.

    Isabella or Sebastian

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth?
I am definitely finding out, I don't think I could wait until birth.

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends?
No myths or legends, but do have a question. Why do people refuse to shower at the hospital after birth? My aunt told me I should absolutely wait until I get home to shower, not sure of her reasoning. I thought this was crazy but I've heard a lot of other women who follow this. I get there are a lot of germs and stuff but after the birth of my DS, all I wanted was to shower and put on a fresh pair of PJs. Thoughts?

Who wants to start next week's check in?
Not sure I can come up with "cool" questions. Maybe later on, I can. @mytinc I like your questions!!!!

  • @mimzgoy - I showered at the hospital both times after giving birth.  I have never heard of not doing that.  Did she give you reasoning for waiting???

  • @mimzgoy - I had to go look it up to see what the web says.  Here's at least one article.  https://www.babygaga.com/showering-and-14-other-things-not-to-do-after-labor/  I was never told not to shower and never had complications with my stitches (from my tears - no c-section).

  • @mytinc I cant remember the reasoning behind it but I did not listen anyways. Her daughter (my cousin) had a baby and didnt shower after birth because she followed her strict instructions. The best feeling, after holding baby for first time, is feeling clean and fresh after labor.

  • What name(s) are you considering?
For a girl we are set on Raelyn Marie-Rae for my mom and Marie for my MIL that we lost to cancer in 2014. We have not been able to come up with a boy name yet.

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth?
If all goes well with our appointment next week we will be setting up our ultrasound to find out the sex the week before Christmas!

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends?
In one of my other groups a lady said that according to her grandmother you should not watch scary movies while pregnant. Her reasoning was that the baby would be "marked" by whatever injury/injuries you see in the movie(or something along those lines. I don't really remember lol)  Not something I believe in but it was the weirdest pregnancy myth I have ever heard :p

  • For a boy we are going with Rowan Oliver.  A girl is up in the air, we can't agree.  Since we already have one of each, I'm fine with team green, but dh insists we find out.  Since he did NOT want another baby and here we are, I feel obligated to give him what he wants.  (My feelings, nothing he has expressed etc).

Hey ladies! I just got moved to the second week of June!! I can't wait to get to know you all!

    What name(s) are you considering?
We honestly haven't talked much about names yet. I have a huge list of names I like but my husband and I have way different taste in names. It will take us forever to settle on one.

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth?
I wanted to hold off this time around but my husband says he needs to know so he can plan. He is terrified of having a girl lol. I think we will be finding out right around Christmas!

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends?
My mom told me something I had to laugh at. She says the internal temperature of the mother during pregnancy decides the gender!! I tried telling her no that is not how it works at all, she is still positive she is right.  :D Gotta love it!

@ambere13 We will be finding out then as well!! I love the early scans!!

@mimzgoy I wish I had gotten to shower after labor. Unfortunately I hemorrhaged during labor and fainted a couple hours after birth. I was too nervous to get in the shower after that. First thing I did when I got home lol.

  • What name(s) are you considering? Boy it'll MH's name, so he'll be the third. Girl Madison Jewel

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth? We will find out the sex

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends? My mom swears natural births are faster. My sister (who listened to my mom) was admitted for about 24 hours before she started pushing (it was for other issues) but once she started pushing it took less than 15 minutes, my mom walked my sister's best friend to the car and they both missed the delivery. Even the doctor, no one thought it'd be that fast. I'm leaning towards natural. My pain tolerance is low though so IDK.

  • @mimzgoy the first shower after having a kid is my favorite. I never wait until I get home, and I've had 2 csections. It makes me feel like a person again haha.
  • 1. Charlotte Ruby or Rosalie Amethyst are my top picks for girls. Boys names are impossible so maybe Benjamin Thomas.. I don't love it but I didn't love DS's name until several months after he was born.

    2. We'll find out. I like to be prepared.

    3. I use the Chinese gender calculator and it's been right for both of my other kids. It says Girl this time, and I'm really hoping it's right

  • @mytinc omg what a story to tell that child. That he/she was born in a toilet. With My oldest brother my mom pooped during delivery right before he came out, she always says “he was born into some mess.” LOL!!! With my youngest sister it was either her or my mom the entire pregnancy. She made my mom sick from day one. I remember her crawling on the floor she couldn’t even walk, it was so bad my mom sent us to live with an aunt. She was hospitalized for weeks and finally had my youngest sister at 27 weeks. My sister stayed in NICU for 4 months. They had to deliver she literally almost killed my mother. They’ve always been at odds. She’s 20 now and my mom always says “it was either you or me” when she talks to my sister. It’s funny bc in regards to my siblings the circumstances in which they were born reflect their life & the kind of kid they were to my mom. My mom & sister never got along & my brother was always in trouble.

  • @May14th2011 - The Chinese gender calculator says that both of my boys should have been girls...

  • @ffw0617 - By faster, do you mean the amount of pushing?  Because 24 hours of labor doesn't sound fast to me.  LOL

I was induced with both (due to pre-e) and had epidurals with both of my boys.  One thing I found surprising was once you're at a 10 you don't "need to start pushing".  I was at a 10 with my first and I honestly didn't feel the urge to push, so the nurse said I could either start pushing (and might be pushing for a long long time) or wait until I felt the urge.  About 90 minutes or so later I thought I felt the urge (through my epidural) and started pushes.  He was out in 6 pushes.

With my second, my water hadn't broken and I was at a 10.  I had to wait over an hour for a doctor to break my water and once she did he was out in one push.  In fact, she practically had to hold him in until the NICU unit arrived as they needed to be there when he was born.

  • @mytinc that's why I put "for other issues" in parenthesis. She wasn't in labor 24 hours, she admitted the day before due to blood pressure.  Once she did go into labor it only took about 15 minutes. It went so fast everyone missed it: the doctor, our mom, the dad and her best friend.

  • The whole labor was 15 minutes?  From contractions to birth?

  • @mytinc according to my sister (and mother) she never had the close contractions to be considered in labor (I live in another state but I'd gave up on the baby coming for a few days- my sister's birthday is 3 days after her daughter's). This is the same person who didn't see a doctor until she was 6 months. She is odd (disclaimer). She was actually planning to have the baby at home, the blood pressure was the only reason she was there.

  • @mytinc I did the same thing with laboring down until I just “had” to push and still tried to not push as much as possible to avoid tearing.

The speed of labor can have to do with so many different factors. Sometimes epidurals relax you and speed things up. Sometimes they do slow things down a bit. Every case is different.

@ffw0617 And by ‘natural’ you just mean non medicated right? I had an epidural and was induced and consider my labour and daughter’s birth to be natural. That being said, from induction to her coming out was a total of 6 hours. I only pushed for about 10 mins, 3 big pushes and she was out. I’ll definitely be getting an epidural again.

Chinese gender calendar was right for my daughter.

    What name(s) are you considering?

Names are so hard this time around. I’m sure we’ll change a lot, DH doesnt want to narrow down any until we find out the sex.

Girl - Charlotte, Lucy, Lillian, Grace (MN unknown)

Boy - Benjamin, Graham, Oliver, Lucas (MN will be Patrick)

Are you planning on finding out the sex during pregnancy or will you be Team Green and find out at birth?

    We’ll find out

Have you heard any good pregnancy/delivery myths/legends?

Lots of heartburn means your child will have a lot of hair. My mom had major heartburn with me and I was born with so much. Apparently she ate raw potatoes to help cure the heart burn  :D
