Pregnant after IF

2nd Trimester Check In For The Week of October 30th

Good morning!

This is a weekly check-in for those in their 2nd trimester: weeks 14 through the end of week 27.

Congrats to all the strong ladies who have made it this far! It's such a great feeling and we've all accomplished so much! We are now 1 week closer to the end of this especially long journey we call "infertility."

Please post below a little about yourself, how many beans you have growing inside, if you have found out the sex(es) and what your EDD is. Please also let us know how far you've made it on your journey and when your next appointment is and what for. If I'm missing anyone from this list, or you are new to the 2nd tri, please let me know and I will add you.

Please let us know when you have graduated to 3rd trimester so that I can update.

Re: 2nd Trimester Check In For The Week of October 30th

  • 21+3 with boy /girl twins!
My next appointment is with my Ob on Thursday for another cervical check ultrasound. Hoping to see baby girls face this time as shes been hiding it the last 2 ultrasounds.
I still feel tired and huge and uncomfortable with back pains on the roght like baby girl is digging in my back.
QOTW: i hope to pass on the traditions of everyone opening 1 gift on Christmas eve and Christmas morning one person playing Santa to pass out all the gifts. There are many more but ill just name those..

Those that had appointments or ultrasounds last week...how did everything go?
  • 24w3d with girl
I had an apt with the PA today and then a heart echo right afterwards. She was very busy today. She kept her hands up on her face again like she usually does so it kept casting a shadow on her heart so they had to work on that. Everything looked great. We have both been busy gaining weight lol I've gained 11lbs in a month AHH and she has plumped up to the 61 percentile 1lbs 8oz and on track now. Next apt isn't until Nov 14th and it's with my OB only to go over the ultrasound that was done today.
I really actually didn't need to stress the full bladder thing. The nurse told me to ignore instructions that say full bladder but I was fine today.

QOTD: For Thanksgiving we like to open our home to more than family we have a lot of close friends that we serve and even some friends that just don't have anywhere else to go. For Christmas I believe I'd like to pass down going to Christmas Eve service. It's pretty important to me.

  • @thucks Im so glad everything went well today!! Congratulations on making it to viability this week!! Im glad to hear that you didn't need that full bladder after all.
  • @momma6angels11 Thank you. I'm excited to be at 24 weeks I can't wait for 28 weeks seems to be a big milestone appointment. Sometimes I feel like 36 (our goal) weeks is so far away but I think it will go so fast with the holidays.

  • 15+2 with a boy!
My next appointment is with my OB 11/10. We are going to an elective ultrasound on 11/8 my mother and mil want us to have a heartbeat bear lol.
Caught a cold so fighting that right now.
QOTW: I hope to pass along traditions of opening a gift on Christmas eve and baking cookies with family.
  • @thucks glad your ultrasound went well. I can't wait to make it to 24 weeks.
  • Hi all! I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow. The anatomy scan seemed to go well last week, but I'm wondering if the tech was thorough enough. She was chatting on the phone with a friend making us wait for our appointment (the waiting area is right outside the room and the door was open), and then she was kind of unfriendly and kept deflecting our questions saying things like, "I'll point everything out at the end." We patiently waited for her to "take her pictures" hoping she could point out what's what but she never did. The doctor said the initial report looked fine, so I know I shouldn't worry, but I'm not sure if I'm just disappointed that the scan wasn't more informative for me personally, or if she really didn't do a thorough job. Sorry for the rant!

@momma6angels11 sorry you're feeling uncomfortable :( I hope you get to see baby girls face this week!
    @rel_1987 hope you feel better
@thucks I agree that 28 weeks/starting the third trimester feels like the next big milestone! I was looking forward to 20 weeks for so long that now 40 weeks feels impossibly far away!! I'm trying to look at smaller milestones along the way and looking forward to holidays to keep me busy.

QOTW: We always had a special breakfast on Christmas morning with baked goods using family recipes from my great grandma. I'd love to carry that on with my children :) My dad also loved the Beatles and growing up we'd play the Beatle's birthday song when we had cake. It would be fun to do that one, too!

@rel_1987 yes you definitely want one of the heartbeat bears! I got one for each and I think they both will enjoy them when they get older. I hope you zap that cold soon and feel better soon.
  • @kaseycoco Thanks! I too couldn't wait to get to the 20 week mark! Now Im awaiting the 24 wk mark for viability and of course then 28wks will be the next milestone...the forty week mark will be here before you know it!
  • @thucks I know it seems so far away, but with the holidays im sure it will start flying by.. I  too am looking forward to the 28th week as well as the 24th.
  • @kaseycoco thank you  :)
@momma6angels11 I'm excited to get one and I'm feeling slightly a little better today. This Ohio weather is no joke.
  • Are @rel_1987 and I the only ones on Lovenox in this group? At my apt on Monday the MFM doctor said a few things that was concerning. He said at 36 weeks I will go off the baby asprin and the Lovenox I will then go on the Heparin. If I go into labor naturally and have had the Heparin within the past 12-18 hrs (depending on doc) I can not have an epidural and if I have to do a c-section they can't do a spinal tap I would have to be completely out (my biggest fear) during delivery. So if I feel like I'm going into labor I'm to stop taking my Heparin just in case.  I guess I will need to talk to my OB more about this cause if I don't go naturally by 39 weeks we will set up a scheduled c-section and i will know when to stop taking the Heparin but if I go naturally it may mess me all up on any plans I have. He said there is an "antidote" that will reverse the effects of it but they don't like to use it.

  • @thucks my MFM also said I would go off baby aspirin at 36 weeks but they weren't switching me to Heparin. I am not sure why and will verify all this at my next appointment. I do know that they said between 38 and 39 weeks they will schedule for me to be induced.
  • @rel_1987 I wounder why they are already saying they will induce you between 38 and 39 weeks.

  • @ thucks I think it might be just you 2 on the lovenox, but im not sure..
  • @thucks I am at an increased risk for IGUR and with having had some early complications they said they are just being prepared. They actually expect me to go earlier.
  • @rel_1987 That makes sense then.  I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
I'm nervous with the Twins I only went to 35 weeks but that was cause of preclampsia. I feel like my due date will be around 35 weeks for this baby just cause of history, if that makes sense.

  • Hi guys! I didn't post last week, was on vacation. But I am 15 weeks 1 day EDD 4/24. We are waiting to find out the gender. Ive had an appointment since I last posted. No US but did hear the heart beat. They prescribed me something for acid and I'm also still on the diclegis for morning sickness. Hoping it lets up soon. I had high BP on my last visit so that was kind of concerning. My zika test came back negative today which is great since I had a few exposures. Next appointment is Nov 22.

As far as traditions are concerned I guess theres a few. I'm originally from Canada so i'd love to celebrate those holidays with my kids. Also, the present christmas eve is another one I love!

Feeling kind of off this week, not sure if anyone else has felt this way. I feel awkward announcing my pregnancy to people. It's overwhelming for me, all the advice, well wishes, questions etc. I feel like I want to hide it but I can't anymore since it's pretty obvious! My sister in laws (who all have multiple kids) are being so sweet wanting to talk about it all non stop but I can't deal it's too much! Its so sweet of them to want to give me their stuff but I kinda want to feel like I have a say in what I take, and how I want to parent! End rant! Maybe next week will be better!
  • @meredithj123 Everyones advice is very overwhelming. I can relate with you from my first pregnancy. My best advice is to just nod and smile. I have taken a lot of things from people this time who have been nice enough to give hand me downs. Things that I wont use or think are ugly just go into a pile for yard sale next year. There's not much else you can do without coming off rude or ungreatful. My mom has bought a used stroller car seat combo for us from a yard sale and I am soo wishy washy about it for safety reasons so it will sit there until after my baby shower and then if we don't get the one we want we will probably buy it and tell her someone got it for us and we will use her's as a back up.

  • Welcome to the 2nd trimester @meredithj123 !! I will get you added to next weeks post! I agree with @ thucks about all the advice and such..I would definitely take what they offer after all you will get to choose what to use. I hope next week will be better for you!
  • UPDATE: My appointment went great today! Both babies are doing great! AND baby A's placenta has finally started shifting off of my cervix!! Praise the Lord!! I found out that I will start stress tests weekly at 32 weeks..
  • @momma6angels11 I'm glad you appointment went great. That's good news about the placenta.  When I was with the Twins we didn't start stress test until week 35. I'm glad they are doing them a little earlier for you.

  • @momma6angels11 great news about your placenta shifting! Glad to hear it went well.
@meredithj123 I also agree with @thucks and @momma6angels11 about accepting used things and setting them aside if you're not sure how you feel about it. I'm also getting some old stuff from my SIL that I'm not sure if I want or not. You can always register for the version you want, but for me I felt like who knows how much will be purchased from our registry, so it's good to have the hand me downs just in case! But it's definitely a hard transition to being showered with positive attention after going through such efforts and heartache to get pregnant. I also felt awkward because I kept my fertility issues very private and was very guarded about my pregnancy since I had a hard time believing it was actually happening. I think it gets easier as you move along.

  • I'm 15+1 today with twins. Next appointment will ne our anatomy scan on 11/29 with the high risk specialist, and it cannot come fast enough! For those of you who remember, I had a bleeding scare last week. Doc said it looks like one of the placentas had detatched slightly, but the babies were doing great and not to worry about spotting some more.

I am also feeling super weird about announcing the pregnancy...just about everyone I actually talk to already knows, and I definitely think it's obvious! But I haven't told Facebook yet. When I was doing IVF, I kept telling myself that I was going to start a blog and talk about everything (i've also kinda been meaning to for years cause people ask me for recipes and cooking advice a LOT, but I figured this would kinda be the launcher) cause infertility is scary and lonely and people need to know more about it, and if I have friends who are silently suffering then I want them to talk to me!!! But now...I'm torn between hating the idea of sharing my life with the world, and remembering how incredibly helpful it was to have my one friend who had gone through IVF and could tell me what to expect and help me to keep hoping and believing that my miracle would come. Gah. Life is hard.

Anyway...QOTW: this will be interesting for us. My husband is Asian/Polynesian, and I am American, but was raised much more European, so we will probably do a lot of starting new traditions. I do love the Christmas Eve present, and we typically do pajamas, and I think I may add a book or movie as well. Also, we will definitely continue going to my grandma's for Christmas dinner. She always gives us literal mountains of presents (everyone gets 15-30 depending on sizes of things), and she is even more excited about the twins than my mom is, so those children will be VERY spoiled!

Thank you all for being a great support system! Love and prayers for all of you!
  • @nmtay ill be praying for you and babies.. i had the same scare at 9 wks and then again at 12wks. I personally haven't announced on facebook yet. I was going to do it at 20 weeks and then i decided to do it at viability (24wks). I think a blog will help you get your feelings about everything out and at the same time help alot of others.
  • @momma6angels11 thank you! That definitely helps!
