Re: 3rd Trimester Weekly Check-in October 23 ****NEW LEADER NEEDED****

  • Hi everyone! This is going to be my last week officially leading our thread! It is so hard to believe that not only am I at the top of the list but that I am finally getting ready to end this journey and make it to the other side and you ladies are so close too! I am so glad to have had a safe space to share and encourage one another and I hope we all have smooth upcoming deliveries.  <3

I am 39+4 with a little girl and out EDD is this Thursday!! I haven't had any cervix checks yet so I am not sure if or how much I am progressing but I haven't noticed any signs of labor. We went to dinner with some friends last night and that was nice. It's so exciting to see everyone wanting to be on baby watch with us, so many friends and family want us to let them know when we are on the way to the hospital it is so cute! Welp, not sure if she will come on time or late but definitely starting to get anxious, can't wait to finally hold this little girl in my arms.

QOTW: I still have some things to organize and wash but DH always reminds me that you will never be done with everything so that always helps me from stressing out <3

  • @Joslynj11 I can take over

AFM 31 weeks with our pistachio. Just trucking along trying to soak up the last of the beautiful fall weather before it gets cold this week. (they are talking snow on friday.. I am not ready). as for getting ready for babies arrival... I need to pack the diaper bag and we need to dig the car seat out of the garage but really the other basics are done. We still have to finish the art work for the room and get curtains  but those are little details that can always happen after.  I dug my hypnobirthing book out and have been practicing so that's good.

  • So close @Joslynj11, I can't wait for an update!! ❤️

39 weeks here, I'm 1-2cm but feeling great so I'm just setting myself up for a late arrival :) my 4yo just got a double ear and eye infection and my inlaws (who will watch her when we go in) caught a stomach bug.... soooo maybe it's good the little man isn't here quite yet! :) stocking up on hand sanitizer but our pediatrician this morning just said with a little one in school, get ready for early sickness for baby. Ugh, I'll be excited for spring :)

QOTW also pack diaper bag but we're set for him. My daughter hated the swing and other baby "must haves" so we were just going to bring things up as needed, we really only brought out the basics this time. They're talking snow this weekend so we really need to do some outdoor work, just get set up so we can just snuggle inside and enjoy our new family when he comes.
  • @wabash15 Great thanks for taking over! I can not believe they are already talking snow where you are? Where you living?

@PolythenePam sorry to hear there is so much illness hanging around your family! I am with you, I hope that baby keeps cooking a little longer! You are super close too, I can't wait to hear your update :)

  • @Polythene Pam sorry your kiddo is sick... this time of the year can be the worst for it. I hope your IL are better by the time your little mad decides to come. I remember our first winter with the twins and it was rough.
@Joslynj11 I am in the upper midwest... We have been blest with a really mild fall, I'm just not ready for winter yet.

  • @wabash15 where in the Midwest (if you don't mind my asking)? We're in WI, it's been such a gorgeous fall, I feel like we're in for it with hearing the first mention of snow :)

thanks on all the well wishes guys! My husband is now coming home sick too so I'm putting this baby on mandatory "hang tight" status haha.
  • @Polythene Pam both of our families are in WI (stoughton and Wausau), we are in the PNW and I always feel so grateful to live here when they send us “first snow” pictures every year! Haha. Although there’s nothing more beautiful than a snowy and frozen lake....

33+3 here. I felt super lightheaded yesterday and today, to the point that I don’t feel safe to drive, called OB but they said she couldn’t return my call until tomorrow. (I checked my BP at home and it’s fine, so I’m assuming low iron is my issue) I also spent all night awake with the worst heartburn I’ve ever had, even sitting straight up! Thankfully I’m on strike at work, so I got to stay home today, but with our bathroom reno it was a constant chorus saws and drills, so no napping :(

QOTW: we had the first of two baby showers yesterday, after the next one (this coming Sunday) we will make all the remaining big purchases for baby. Haven’t packed a hospital bag and still need to motivate my fiancé to get the car seat installed. I keep reminding myself that even if baby came right now, we have everything we need, it’s just not perfectly set up how I want it haha :)

  • @PoeMasque ooh PNW is gorgeous! And better weather ;) I actually love snow, just not tooo early and not past February haha. Especially having kid(s) it makes it magical again. I hope you feel better and could get in a nap soon!! Keep us posted!
  • @Joslynj11 Good luck, we can't wait to hear about your bundle of joy!
Checking in with my little girl, EDD 11/30. The swelling began, feet, hands, puffy face and a bit of arthritis pain in the fingers. The other night I had a scary choke because of acid reflux during sleep. I can't believe it's getting so close yet still so long being uncomfortable.
I think I only have about half of the baby shopping done, and nothing yet assembled/installed because husband doesn't want to see baby stuff until very close out of some kind of superstition. While I am the opposite, I need to see things in order to feel more at ease. Will probably push him in a couple of weeks to get everything set up though.

What was your doctor schedule from week 34 onwards? My doc is pretty laid back and doesn't do weekly appointments I think.
  • @PoeMasque I hope your feeling better today. I'm sorry your OB couldn't get back to you sooner.
@liljoy-2 ahh the nesting urge gets strong. I HAD to have things set up for the twins. I needed the dresser to put the cloths away and one crib and the PNP set up... I couldn't relax until it was done.

  • @liljoy-2 ugh, the swelling and reflux!!! I am right there with you. I naively thought that was a “won’t happen till days before” thing haha!

Thanks ladies, I felt so much better last night and actually slept well (yay!). Still waiting to hear from the OB, but baby continues to kick and wiggle, so I’m not worrying too much about it :)

  • @liljoy-2 ugh my husband was the same, except it's not a superstition, it's laziness and procrastination ;) I called my BIL to help me with fixing the nursery closet door, that helped me- nothing my husband hates more than having another guy do his jobs ;)

as for appts, we did weekly once we hit 36 weeks. I don't know if that's the norm-? She checks dilation only if I want but checks heartbeat for the baby and a few other quick things.
  • @liljoy-2 Thanks for the well wishes and I updated your EDD and sex! I have had appointments weekly since 36/37 but I haven't had any cervix checks( by my choice) yet. I will have my first one this week on my EDD and then we will see what the Dr wants but they said they let women go to 42 weeks before induction.

  • @liljoy-2 I started weekly appts at 36 weeks, they were every 2 weeks from like 24 or 26-36, weekly from there.  Honestly, I think weekly appointments are a bit of a waste of time, personally.  We're lucky in that everything is normal, and all they do is weigh me, take my blood pressure, ask if I have questions, and send me on my way.  It's frustrating to take short days from work, time I could be saving for when he actually gets here, to go to these ridiculous appointments where they literally do nothing I couldn't do at home.  I've declined cervical checks so far, though my practice starts offering them at 36 weeks; from what I understand, they're uncomfortable at best, can introduce infections, and don't really tell you much as far as when you're going to go into labor.  At my last appointment, they said they'd strongly prefer to check at 39 weeks, and they flat out insist on it at 40 (which is also when they start bringing me in twice a week), which doesn't seem unreasonable, since they also start broaching the subject of stripping membranes and induction at 40 weeks (so you can plan for it if you want to induce at 41 or 42 or whatever and it's not a last minute scramble, since my preferred hospital is quite busy).

AFM, 38 weeks today with our nugget.  Nesting is in full effect for me and DH, as we've assembled all the major baby stuff (pack n play, which we're putting downstairs in our living area, the co-sleeper, rock n play, car seat bases are installed, etc) and I thought I was done washing and organizing baby clothes and blankets and stuff.  Then, of course, my SIL showed up with a literal mountain of baby clothes from her son that she'd been saving, so as soon as I thought I was pretty much done, now I have a new mountain to tackle, lol.  I'm not complaining though; she had a lot of really nice stuff, and plenty of newborn cold-weather gear, which we didn't get otherwise and I was thinking I'd have to buy.  I'm still working and still in the gym, which is making the old biddies in my life absolutely insane ("what if you go into labor at the gym?!?!?" well then I'll drive to the hospital in a pair of ruined yoga pants, lol).  So life keeps trucking.

As far as what still has to be done, not much.  I guess a good weekend project would be digging out my breast pump and figuring how that all works, but I'm in no big rush there; I'm hoping I won't need it for at least a month after he's here. And our living room is currently a Baby Staging Area, so getting that cleaned out would be nice, but it doesn't really make sense to put a lot of that stuff away or try to organize it until I figure out where I'm going to need it all to be, logistically.

Anyone doing any fun halloween costumes?  We have a party this weekend (unless we have a baby lol), and it's circus themed, so I'm going as the circus tent, although I totally admit I'm phoning in the costume this year.
  • @sasha29-2 you’re so close!! And I agree with you on the visits being pointless. I’m a nurse and can take my BP at home, on top of that I’m a maternal/child health nurse who does prenatal and postnatal education with families, so I never have questions! My clinic does monitor urine, which is the only thing I can’t do myself haha. I’m dreading the weekly visits. I would suggest testing out your breast pump. They aren’t designed to last forever and the motors often start to lose power after a year or two (which is why insurance covers one for each pregnancy).

AFM: it took the OBs office almost 48 hours to call me back about my lightheaded feeling (and of course I felt fine at that point!). I met with the OB this afternoon who ordered bloodwork since my hematocrit went from 38 to 31 in the last few months, just waiting to hear the results to see if I’m officially anemic

  • @sasha29-2 haha at the gym. Are we supposed to sit and twiddle our thumbs for the last month?? I had my OB appt yesterday and took advantage of my inlaws watching my daughter, went to the store. The clerks were appalled that I DROVE, and that I was at the store. “What if you go into labor here???” Then I’ll drive to the hospital or call my husband, I still need groceries, even at 39 weeks...

My daughter is dressing as a fire truck for Halloween and I am phoning it in wearing a fire hat. With Halloween literally being my due date I didn’t know if I should be buying a maternity shirt or a newborn costume, didn’t try this year haha
  • Oh and agree on cervical checks being pointless. I get sucked in (or my husbands million questions make me do it) and have done it the past 2 weeks. Only made me feel like this baby is comfy, when in reality he could bust out today, and makes my MIL ask and obsess about the state of my vagina (she watched my kid so I could avoid my 4 year olds questions) which I’d really rather she not.
  • @PoeMasque Ah I did forget the urine screens, but I mean, come on... Can't I just drop a urine sample at the lab once a week? I hate my lab, but for something that simple, I could roll in before work, pee in a cup, and be out the door in 10 minutes and only miss half an hour of work, max. And my pump is brand new- this is my first- but I ordered it like three months ago and never bothered to even take it out of the box.  One of those things that just sounded so far away, you know?  But I suppose a good initial scrubbing is in order.

@Polythene Pam LOL yes that's exactly what we're supposed to do. My MIL and grandmother are appalled that I plan to work basically til I pop, but what else am I supposed to do?  Every day I work is one more day I can spend with him when he's finally here, and if he ends up being a week or two late, it would not be healthy for any of us if I spent that week sitting on a pee pad on my couch waiting for my water to break and convincing myself that every cramp and twinge is active labor.  And yeah, I totally hear you about avoiding questions about the state of your vagina.  My MIL has tried to delicately tap-dance around the subject and I've just been like "nope, not doing this with you. My cervix is not a topic for discussion, ever."  Talk about words I never expected to utter...

And I love that your daughter is dressing as a fire truck :)
  • @polythepam I am still working too! I plan to work up to the day if I can  :D We are on the same wave length as I would like more time home with baby and less time home bored waiting on baby to come. I mean who am I kidding I am bored at work too but at least I am not just at home all day haha

I had my appointment today and had my first cervix check. She said she didn't see anything progressing. She said I wasn't even 1. So plan right now is to have me come back next Tuesday for and NST and then we will schedule an induction if there is still no progress. Tuesday makes me 40+5, DH and I were talking and we might wait to induce until the following Monday if we do need to schedule. Ekk, getting so close! This is crazy, I can't believe this little girl will be here soon  <3
