Weekly Randoms -10/23

The Bump community website is frustratingly broken today- every time I click the link to “start a new discussion”, the website takes me back to the Bump homepage. Some posts i’ve Started here are just easier to start on the website than the app! So frustrating.

On a different random note, and perhaps along the Unpopular Opinion line, but I just fundamentally do not understand why some posts ask for opinions about baby names. Why do you want the opinions of complete strangers? I’m not intending to cause offense, but it seems like there have been a lot of lurkers lately coming out of the woodwork with similarly themed posts, and it just makes me wonder.  (I also am in the final weeks countdown - 2ish to go - and am probably trying to find anything else to think about than the fact that my life is about to change irrevocably.)

Re: Weekly Randoms -10/23

  • I think it's because the general public will be the ones judging your baby's name for the rest of his/her life, so it makes sense to ask people anonymously what they really think.

  • The bump is working again for me it's been like 5 days without being able to comment or like people's post.
  • Omg. So annoying not being able to join in on the conversations since last Tuesday!!! So glad they fixed it, couldn't even look past the first page of a thread. This has not been a good week.  Last day of work was Sunday. Tried getting the nursery done, we need more shelving or something. The mattress we ordered has a freaking hole in it.  On Friday I tried completing my target registry, it took me over 2 hours to get everything, go to check out and they say nothing in my cart marches my registry. The manager was so rude and dismissive, I left crying then later went with DH and DD to a different store to finish and they did select everything one at a time as being on my registry but DIDN'T apply the coupon so now I have to drive 45 minutes back to that store to get my credit. I was so defeated by them.
  • I'm glad I wasn't the only one with app issues! So frustrating! At least it appears to be working again.
  • I couldn't like or comment for a week from the app or the website. Super frustrating!
Kind of a random and kind of a rant but my fiance's mom finally decided she wanted to throw a baby shower but since she waited so long it's 3 weeks before my due date. I had my son 3 1/2 weeks early so there's a chance I won't even make it until my shower. And I'm really antsy to have everything done and ready and now I have to wait until last minute to see what I still need after the shower.
  • Here I thought I was having a technically impaired moment that I couldn't get into the websites.  Ha ha.  Speaking of baby names,  my DH and I are still debating and we meet this little one in a few days.  This whole experience is still so surreal to me.
  • Ahhh, I can't believe The Bump is finally working again! It was so frustrating not being able to do anything on here the last couple days, especially when I could see that some other people *were* able to post.
  • THis lower back pain is unreal! Chiropractor didn’t help and now it shoots down both legs all day! Fun! I have been covering since Sept for a teacher on maternity leave who was due back this coming Monday. She informed the school last week she isn’t coming back so I am now teaching until Nov 13 and LO is scheduled to arrive Nov 16(though that’s 39w and I’ve never made it that long)

  • I have a cold that I got from DH. He stayed home from work when he was sick and slept and did very little. I am apparently not in the same boat. It probably wouldn't be so bad if I could lay down and breathe, but breathing isn't permitted I guess. My MIL is also going through some legal issues (or rather her boyfriend is) so she is constantly bombarding my DH with questions and panic and seriously woman deal with your own issues! We also got the boys flu shots yesterday so that went about as well as could be expected. I'm tired.

  • @MaximumEffort That’s like the last thing you need right now is an extra trip! While you’re out, maybe you can treat yourself for the trouble.

@amber0529 welcome back! Thats so weird she would wait until the last minute. I hope you make it to your shower!
  • Agreed the app issue was terrible.  I had a whole day in the hospital waiting for labor to get going and I could have been posting.  Lol.  @amber0529 my shower was supposed to happen on saturday but I had the baby instead.  So I get wanting to have things settled sooner rather than later.   Maybe this time you wont go early.
  • New level of pregnant: when you have to pee so bad you don't care you can't find your keys that fell out in your car and take the risk of your car getting stolen at the hospital just to get to the bathroom

  • @littlemissc17, BRU took over an hour!!! My registry rang up inactive. All I wanted to do was replace the mattress that showed up with a hole.  DH had his truck smashed into yesterday so we had to get the window replaced today sms he decided to have our tinted as well.   Target was the easiest.   I told the guy what the issue was,  instead of doing it the hard way he just figured how much we were do,  had us go sit down and bright me the cash refund.  Still going to give em hell for all that trouble.  BRU gave me more off the mattress so now I'm regretting not putting the refund back on my card cause now I have a gift card to there more than I need.
  • Who are these randoms who are posting on the birth announcement thread and getting love tits? Such weird drivebys...

  • @DungeonTrollMel - Ditto! I've started to wonder if all the random name/announcement posts are spammers or lurkers.  Most of them are extremely inactive accounts.
  • @MaximumEffort I feel like everyone who works at BRU just started a few weeks ago and never knows anything. Maybe it’s that way where you live too lol. Does the gift card work for toys r us too? If so, you can always use it for Christmas.
  • Guys, I can no longer put on socks. DH has to put them on for me last night!  :D:D  I’m ready for this gal to make her appearance! 3 weeks...
  • @littlemissc17 you are so smart. My brain has been mush dealing with all this. Yes, it's an actual gift card now. They had done a merchandise card which wasn't working online so one guy switched it to an actual giftcard.
  • Well hello swollen feet and hands. The last couple days my feet have started to swell and today my hands are too.
  • Went for a nice long walk today, trying to get things goings or at least get his head in the right position, it's 97% humid today so, ick. I've started running out of things to do around the house. Mom is coming over today to help clean the house.
  • I feel like a whale today. I have way too long left to feel like this already

  • @MaximumEffort I can only think straight when it comes to other people. I’m the girl who was searching frantically for her car key and realized it was in the ignition. So...yeah, I feel ya! Lol
  • @DungeonTrollMel I feel like a whale today too. Ugh.
  • Not loving pregnancy right now....

While driving to work this morning, I began to experience excruciating lower back pain to the point of tears. I had to squirm, and try different positions while driving, but nothing alleviated it. It then persisted for the next two hours. I couldn't sit for more than a few minutes and walking only provided a little relief. I called the nurse triage line and she said it could be nothing or it could be early labor.

Luckily, I didn't have any contractions. After taking some tylenol and using a heat pack, it calmed down quite a bit. But tonight, by stomach has been tightening and firming up randomly. It doesn't hurt. My doula said it is probably braxton hicks. Such a strange sensation....
  • Woke up at my usual time this morning, and got ready to take the dog out.  We walked out the back door and straight into a skunk.  Heck of a wake up call.  2 baths and a bottle of skunk wash later, my back is killing me from bending over the tub and my house still stinks.  This better not send me into labor - I have dinner plans for a last "just the two of us" date night at a really nice restaurant tomorrow night! Kid and I have an understanding that I need to eat this dinner before s/he comes along!

Skunks stink.  Literally and figuratively in every sense.  Husband owes me big time - he was asleep, having been up till 3:30am ordering his new phone so he can hopefully have it in hand before the kid comes along.
  • @curiousfool1 Ugh that seriously sucks! Our dog ran right into a skunk one time in our back yard...and the smell was awful.

If you find that the smell lingers in your house, put out small bowls of vinegar. It will absorb the smell from the air.
  • @curiousfool1... that happened to our dog not to long ago it is not fun and the smell was terrible. I bought nature's miracle skunk odor remover and it seemed to help remove the smell from her face after a few washes with it.
  • @kdw89 - The Nature's Miracle skunk wash is a godsend.  I used up the last half bottle we had this morning on the dog, which unfortunately left me with nothing but vinegar for the floor/bath/walls/collars.  But thank goodness other than a nasty backache from leaning over the tub for an hour, I seem to be OK.  Baby's kicking up a storm, and no tightness or contractions in my torso.  Just hoping to make it through this weekend (and the really nice last-date dinner plans we have for tomorrow) before this Kid decides to arrive.
  • I just feel sad. I tested positive for group b strep. I really didn't want an IV during labor and wanted to stay home as long as possible...so much for that plan.
  • @dragonfly87-2 I’m sorry. It sucks when things don’t go how you planned.
  • @dragonfly87-2 I always test positive. Loading dose takes about a hour to go in and second dose 4 hours after that. Shouldn't keep you on bedrest. I was still able to move around and no iv fluids unless the antibiotic was infusing.
  • @MaximumEffort thanks for the insights. Did you do a heplock?  Also bummed it kills the good bacteria too...
  • I think all are heplocks now. I had a waterbirth and wore a long plastic glove that went up to my shoulder. It came out as soon as I peed the first time.
  • @dragonfly87-2 Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. :( I just had my test on Friday and am anxiously awaiting the results. Have similar hopes to stay at home as long as possible and not have to spend time hooked up to the IV, so I'm kinda nervous.
  • Thank the Lord, we finally have a name for this little girl! DS1 was named at around 4 months pregnant, DS2 was named 2 weeks before he was born. With this one I was concerned she would be 5 yrs old before anything was selected. I'm so relived to have that done. Now just to figure out babysitting for the boys and we will be set!

  • I have to get an IV so that I can get clotting medication, so I'm pretty much stuck with it. However, I'm still going to ask if I can use the birthing tub. I'll just come out of it when I'm closer to the end so that I deliver in a bed.
