molars question

I didn't realize there were one-year molars! How do you know if they are getting them? Do they come in after a certain number of teeth? I realize that teeth come in out of order (dd's have come in completely out of "order"), but I don't know if there is any way of knowing that they are typically coming in. How many teeth back are the molars? I don't know what any of the teeth are called!

We're going through an awful round of teething (I think), so I'm thinking maybe this is what is going on.

Re: molars question

  • Believe me, you'll know when they're coming in!!!  Here are the signs.  Your dd will go to sleep and then wake up periodically screaming at the top of her lungs and nothing you do will be able to stop her from crying.  She will just cling to you and cry until she cries herself back to sleep.  It's heartwrenching.

DS just went through it last week and earlier this week and it's horrible.  We couldn't figure out what it was until I just happened to see the white popping through.  Then we gave him Tylenol and Humphreys and he was a little better.

  • Unfortunately, I have to agree with the PP.  Molars totally suck!  DD has the 2 bottom ones and the two top ones are just under the surface.  She's been waking up a lot the past few nights and is totally inconsolible.  Nothing I do makes her feel better.  She's constantly drooling and I think her finger is permanently attached to her mouth.

The molars generally come in after the 4 top and 4 bottom teeth and before the canines.

  • DD was just dealing with the wonderful 1 year molars....they suck!  I think my book said they "typically" come in around 14 months.  They usually come in after the front 2 top and bottem teeth, then will come the 1 year molars, and then the canines will come in inbetween the 1 year molars and the front teeth.
  • From my experience the Molar come in before the Eye teeth (the pointy ones that come next to the front four.  The eyeteeth were worse then the molars for my little guy.  We are currently battleing the 2 year molars and they SUCK.  Its been over a month now and I think tonight something may have popped in because we just had the most miserable little guy.
  • My son is getting his top eye teeth in now and it has been horrible! I didn't think it would be this bad for him since those teeth aren't really big or thick but he has been so cranky and the last few nights have been very rough. I am so exhausted today!
  • There's a gap between the incisors and the molars, I am not sure if there's a gap if the kid already has canines. DS has all 4 molars, he cut them all at once. Ugh. He was really really cranky, and kept sticking his fingers back by where the molars would come in and chewing them. The molars really suck because you have to wait for all 4 points to come through before it stops hurting, rather than just 1 point like the other teeth. GL.
