    • Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used:  I have several.  A BOB single jogger, a chicco liteway single, and a sit and stand.
    • Link/picture:
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.):  The BOB is a couple hundred.  I got the liteway second hand for less than $50 and I found the sit and stand on the side of the road for free.
    • Pros:  The BOB is great.  I highly recommend it.  The liteway is nice and compact.  The sit and stand...was free.
    • Cons:  The BOB is also pretty large.  The sit and stand we have is a bit of a pain to push around.
    • Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?:
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers:  Everyone has different needs here.  If you're just having a second, I baby wore the new baby for the first several months so  didn't need the double for a while.  Now I use it all the time (they're 3.5 and 1.5) even if the bigger isn't riding, I have the extra storage space.

Question: Most daycares here only allow umbrella strollers to be stored, so I'm considering the Chicco Liteway Plus since it also takes carseats, rather than having to buy a second lighter stroller later. Any other suggestions for umbrella strollers that will work for infants and be good in the city (narrow sidewalks/subways/walking most places)? I'll also probably just baby wear as much as possible to avoid this issue.

tl;dr: Lightweight umbrella strollers that work with car seats?

    • Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used: Baby Trend Xcel Jogger
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): I think it was $75 when I bought it, appears to be around $85 now
    • Pros: Great price for a jogger. Easy enough to steer with one hand, decent sized basket and tray for LO. Seems to be comfortable enough as I used it specifically during nap times over the summer to get DS out of DH's hair and he slept great in it, while moving at least. Back reclines
    • Cons: No shocks so not great for trails or jogging on uneven surfaces. Brakes are on the wheels, no hand brake. Need two hands to open and close. Only a cup holder on the handle bars for mom
    • Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?: I considered a more expensive jogger, but for the amount I use it, this was fine. We mostly baby wear when out, so I don't lug it around a lot and we live right by a university so no need to pack it up to take for jogs. It does mean I'm limited to running on sidewalks or roads when out with DS, which is a bummer but a trade off for the price
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers: Trying to decide on a double jogger for the future. Probably wouldn't use it until new little can sit up without a car seat, so not worried about compatiblity. Suggestions?

  • @desertdweller-21 we used the Britax B-Agile/B-Safe travel system.

Also a question- Do I need a double stroller?  DS is 3.5 and we don't use it often, but I don't see him making it through a day at Disneyland without one.  Who has a double stroller they love, either regular or jogging?
  • I used this- and we liked it. I didn't run with them, just walked, but it was good for trails and such and not super bulky.
As for a double stroller with 2, we got a used sit 'n stand and used it maaaaaaaybe twice. I wore #2 99% of the time, and then the older was big enough to walk. I'm not a huge fan of strollers in general- I always feel like the kids in the strollers can never see anything properly at the zoo or whatever. Plus if they run around they nap better!
  • I think the BOB reviews are spot on! I just want to add a few thoughts: The wheel on mine (not sure if al models are this way) can be fixed or not, you just flip the switch. Also, I never got a double because I thought my oldest wouldn't need the stroller anymorw, but even at 4.5 she can just sit in the footrest part while her sister is up in the seat. It has come in handy that she can sit there! It's kind of a monster but it can go over any terrain and is great for hauling stuff while shopping or on day outings- the canopy can balance plates (lol) or you can just set bags on it or hang them from the handlebar (as long as it won't tip the whole thing over. I may have had that happen once. Eek.) We got ours used 5 years ago and it still looks brand new. I do have to keep a little air pump in the basket but it's not a big deal. If it gets dirty I just hose it down and set it in the sun.
  • We got a generic jogging stroller from Amazon for about 100 bucks.  It's very nice to use, but enormous!  I want to buy a stacked jogging stroller for two that is compact and smaller when folded than the one I have now, yet is under 200 bucks.  Asking a lot, I know.  Any ideas?

    • Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used: I have a Bob and agree with everyone above. I also have a Baby Jogger City Select
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $463 on Amazon but I paid less with the 15% off completion coupon with prime.
    • Pros: It turns into a double and a triple if you use the riding board. Lots of different wants to set it up. It's not wide. Easy to maneuver and comfortable for baby. Also can be used for just the car seat. Handlebar adjusts in height. Seat has many recline positions.
    • Cons: its heavy as all get out. Folding isn't super easy but it fits with the seat in place into my SUV. Canopy isn't as large as I'd like it to be.
    • Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?: Uppababy Vist but my husband almost fainted at the price tag. It does all the same things but it's crazy light.
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers: definitely don't skimp on a jogging stroller. It makes a huge difference. You can test drive all the strollers at Buy Buy Baby to see what's a good fit for you!

Lurking from June 2018 @mileswithmyles With that age difference you probably wouldn't be using the double on a daily basis because your son will be over 4 by the time baby comes. You might consider getting a cheap but functional double or just buying an umbrella stroller and taking your b-agile and the umbrella to Disney. So much cheaper and I assume you'll have at least one other adult if you're doing a Disney trip.
  • @mileswithmyles. I have the same Britax system.   It's great and DD is still in the infant car seat despite being at the top of her percentiles for weight and height.  thanks for starting this thread.

similar question:  with a 2.5 yo and newborn, thoughts on double strollers?  Some mentioned baby wearing which we will do but I was just curious if someone loves their double stroller out there

Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used:ahh so many...We used the Chicco key fit caddy as a snap in for the car seat when our LOs were newbies. Probably more so with our first than our second. Second baby got worn a lot more when out and about. For jogging I love my Schwinn turismo. I tried a BOB from a friend, but for $200 cheaper, Schwinn is just a good and only a smidge heavier. We paid for this ourselves but I don't think I would've registered for a BOB anyway. For a lightweight/quick umbrella stroller we have the first years ignite. Gets the job done. I just googled and it's discontinued though. I remember looking at some other first years options when we got that one. And for a double we have the joovy caboose. Perfect because by the time my second could sit up in the chair part, my oldest was over 3 and totally able to ride in the back without worrying. You can also strap the carseat in when the newbie is really little so that's part of why we used the chicco snap in less. Link/picture:https://www.amazon.com/Chicco-Keyfit-Caddy-Stroller-Frame/dp/B005JDOYF0/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1508420814&sr=8-3&keywords=chicco+keyfit+caddy

Pros:I think I kind of explained above but I really love all of these strollers!
Cons:The first years can be a little hard to open. Jogging strollers are universally gigantic for fitting in trunks. The joovy could also be a challenge with a small car trunk too. Some people find the joovy too long, but I don't think it's any longer than a jogger. Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?:I think we are good on strollers. I briefly considered a double jogging but I'm not jogging with two kids and our oldest is old enough he can walk most places if we go somewhere off road (e.g., festival, beach)Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers:

Not necessarily... I do Disney by myself all the time now,  I don't find going to Disney any more difficult than going to the grocery store with J... I never bring my stroller, and always babywear. I won't do it by myself pregnant though, because baby wearing is tough on the bump! We're not planning on buying another stroller. I'm going to get an extender belt for our baby carrier, so SO can use it, and we'll use the stroller for J. When they get a little bit bigger we'll probably do some swapping around between the two.

    • Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used: Stroller

    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $150-$200 depending on where you purchase it.

    • Pros: Super easy to fold, easy to maneuver, seat reclines a decent amount for naps, just enough storage space for a diaper bag. The car seat is pretty great too. Makes my kiddo look like Mickey Mouse for the first few months of life
    • Cons: I'll have to think about... We really like our stroller. ETA: I hate the buckles.
    • Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?: It would be nice to have a running stroller but I'd have to get a double and I'm too lazy to use one...
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers:

    • Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used: City Select by Baby Jogger
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $720 (Canadian) with the add-ons we got it ended up being around $900, just under $1K.
    • Pros: I love this stroller. We have both the car seat adapter and bassinet as well. It offers great versatility. I love the size of the basket, I didn’t even realize that it would matter until I used it grocery shopping. I find that it folds up pretty easy and pushes great even in the snow. We will be using it as a double stroller with #2.
    • Cons: It’s a little heavy, but that that’s really it. We’ve been super happy with the purchase.
    • Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?: No- we are happy with what we have. DH has a jogging stroller that he got off of a b/s/t site, but only he uses it and I don’t think we’d get a double jogger.
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers: Think about how you’re going to use it and what you might need. We used carseat/bassinet when DD was under 6m and it was awesome. I like that one stroller could be transformed into what we needed for each stage. If you’re going to use it for more than one baby, you will want something that can hold up.
  • Does anyone have a suggestion of a travel system where the carseat and stroller are sold separately?
  • For STMs+:
    • Stroller, Jogging Stroller, or Double Stroller used:
Graco Modes Click Connect Downton Travel System
    • Link/picture: https://www.target.com/p/graco-174-modes-travel-system/-/A-50827338 (We got our's from BRU, the Downton color)
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): Looks like $370 for the travel system that includes the infant carrier and a single base. We bought extra bases to have my DH's and grandma's car.
    • Pros: I LOVED the first setup for the stroller pictured above. You just snap the infant carrier in and it takes up so little space in the trunk when collapsed. The basket is a good size and its super easy to unfold and collapse. It's lightweight even with the toddler seat in place. DD loves her stroller!
    • Cons: I honestly don't have any. Its a great price point for a travel system and has worked really well for us.
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers: So we also bought the Graco FastAction Jogging Stroller. We wanted something a bit more rugged for taking to parks or for walks around our neighborhood (no sidewalks). Its worked really well. Her infant carrier (Snugride 35 that came with the above mentioned travel system) snaps right into it. We couldn't justify spending hundreds on a second stroller. https://www.target.com/p/graco-174-fastaction-fold-jogger-click-connect-stroller/-/A-15093238  Its definitely on the heavy side for lifting and such, but fine for walking and pushing around. It takes up a lot of space in the trunk compared to the Graco Modes one, but I'd assume most joggers do. I'm glad we didn't go with just the jogger as we first thought we would. It takes up the whole trunk of our Outback and I prefer the more compact stroller for errands and regular use.
    • For a double stroller I actually picked up a Joovy Caboose Varylight (originally $500 retail but discontinued now) for $60 at a local consignment sale. I just need to buy the attachment for our Graco infant carrier (about $40). It has the sit and stand option for my toddler and lots of configurations.  I think it will be a good option for us with a mobile 2 year old and a newborn.
  • Reviving this thread to ask if any STM's have the Uppabbay Vista or the City Select Lux and how you like them?

The above reviews have also been super helpful (thank you)!

Also wondering if anyone has any info on what justsuzie said:

    Thanks!!
  • @babys_2018 i have the regular city select and I like it but I would have bought the Uppababy if money wasn’t an issue. It was far lighter and easier to maneuver. I’ve been happy with my City Select though.
  • justsuzie said:

I could be wrong, but isn't a travel system by definition inclusive of both a car seat and stroller? Do you mean the car seat and stroller are coordinated/same line but you can buy them separately?
  • edited December 2017
@arteduc8 or anyone who knows the answer - you said you have to get the attachment for the infant carrier for the double stroller.  Do you only need that because it's a different brand or do you need you always need an attachment in order for the carrier to click in?  I have a Graco infant seat and am struggling to figure out how/if it'll fit in the double stroller.

ETA- I kinda made it sound like I have a double stroller already but that's not the case. I'm trying to figure out which one to get.

Baby Jogger 2016 City Mini Double Stroller - Black/Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019W8W8KA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iyusAb05DS06D
    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): Chicco travel system- $300, Chicco double- $300, Chicco caddy- $100, britax b-agile- $200 (stroller only), and city mini double- $300
    • Pros: Chiccos all snap the Chicco carseats in, Chicco caddy is super light and easy to use, britax moves around SO easily (one of my favs) city mini double is a great double, also moves easily and fits through regular sized doors.
    • Cons: Chiccos  (except caddy) is heavy, the double is long, neither steer as easily as I would like, but still great strollers. Caddy doesn't have stroller later, just holds the carseat, britax and city mini don't come with trays for food, but otherwise I love them.
    • Is there another one you don't have but are considering? Why?: nope, we have plenty.
    • Additional thoughts on strollers, jogging strollers, or double strollers test them out in the store,  including how easy they fold,  snap carseats in etc.
  • Question: Can anyone recommend a car seat/stroller combo?
BOB has adapters that fit a bunch of different car seats.  I used chicco keyfit.
We’re you able to collapse the stroller without removing the car seat adapter? I’ve heard you can and you can’t. We’re looking at getting the Bob flex pro and the Chicco keyfit.

  • We got our stroller 7 years ago, before Britax started making the b-agile, so i don't know how it compares.

    Stroller: City Mini Baby Jogger

    Cost: $220

Pros: light, easy to fold, easy to fit in car, easy steering and can be one handed, we used it on city streets and some "off-roading", can get adapter for car seats. This was the only single stroller we used.

Cons: under storage on our model was a little small. I think they might have made it bigger. The rubber handle tore over time.

    Not considering any other stroller.

We know a lot of people who have 3 or 4 strollers to use for different things. If you have the space and money, go for it. I really liked that we could use one stroller for everything and it wasn't crazy expensive.
  • Double stroller: Graco Ready2Grow double stroller

    Cost: $200

Pros: nice storage, cup holders included, lots of set up options

Cons: not a super smooth ride, gets quite heavy to push with slightly bigger kids

This is a good stroller if you only use a double on rare occasions and your children both need a stroller. We used it when walking a mile or more with just 1 parent up to when kids were 4.5 and 2.
  • @mileswithmyles i wouldn't get a double at this point. Lots of strollers have the standing glide attachment for bigger kids. You can also rent strollers for the day at some places (like Disney).
  • @nanifrog we ended up getting a free umbrella stroller from a friend that we will use with DS at places like Disneyland. We did opt for a double Bob. We run every weekend and DS does still ride in the stroller every weekend, so we felt we would need it.
  • @arteduc8 or anyone who knows the answer - you said you have to get the attachment for the infant carrier for the double stroller.

I think it all depends on the brand of stroller vs. the brand of infant seat. I went for the joovy double stroller but have the Graco infant seat so I needed an adapter. I know Graco also makes double strollers. I'd imagine that they'd work with the infant seat without needing an attachment.
  • We used the Chicco Bravo with DD, found it to be a great single stroller (still use it because she’s only 13 months). It’s around $200 I think. I just wish the underneath basket was a little bigger and that the parent console could hold a Camelbak.

We ordered the Baby Jogger Summit X3 for our double stroller since they make a Chicco adapter for the infant seat now. We were considering the BOB Duallie but I read the seats tend to snag towards the middle, since there’s no support bar there (the Summit has one).

A side note - when you’re looking at diaper bags, look for ones that can hook EASILY on the handle. Our skip hop diaper bag doesn’t hook easily and it’s a hassle a lot of the time. We’ll be getting a new diaper bag because of this.
    <BabyFetus Ticker >
  • We started looking at strollers yesterday and holy moly I had no idea of how complicated this would be.

A couple we are considering are the Thule Urban Glide and the City Mini GT. The Thule is a floor model they are selling off at a discount because there is a new one coming out so we'd have to act fast if we want it at a good price. Anyone have any experience with either of those? We really liked the way the Thule feels and looks, but it does have inflatable tires which I've heard can be a bit of a pain, and the idea of having to take the wheels off every time to collapse it small. If it wasn't for those facts I probably wouldn't even be considering the City Mini GT, but the super easy folding on that one is appealing.

When we were looking at some at Buy Buy Baby last night the sales people were really pushing the idea that if we're planning to have a second kid not too long after this one, we should buy a stroller that can be converted to a double so we don't have to buy a whole new one once the second baby arrives. Is that something we really should think of or just a sales pitch? The convertible strollers are much heavier and of course, also quite a bit more expensive.

  • @thunderberry We heard the same thing when shopping for our stroller and bought the City Select for that reason. I'm actually really glad we listened. It was more expensive then, but we really liked the stroller anyway. This time around we only have to buy the extra seat rather than a brand new double stroller. I know some people complain about the weight of the City Select, but I don't find it to be that heavy and have had no issues getting it in & out of my trunk. It's totally up to you guys though, don't let a sales person make you feel pressured.

No advice on Thule vs. City Mini. I will say that overall we've been happy with Baby Jogger as a brand.
  • We have the city mini and I absolutely love it. It’s pretty light and maneuvers around very easily. I can hold my son and close the stroller one handed. It also opens pretty easily. We have the Chico key fit infant car seat and bought the attachment for it. We are Planning on using this stroller for awhile before looking into a double stroller and just wearing the new baby.
  • FTM but the one I got is brand new so I thought I'd share. It seems pretty perfect for those of us in cities, who don't have to do a lot of off-roading and don't have a lot of space to store a huge contraption.

Graco Jetsetter Ultra Compact Stroller ($169.99) - It takes Graco car seats so you don't need to get one of those frames that only holds car seats, but it's as light as an umbrella stroller and folds up TINY (Seriously, watch the video. It's so small!). It doesn't seem like it'd do well on gravel or grass, but we'll have a jogging stroller we can use on those rare occasions. I had been considering the Chicco Liteway Plus, but once I saw this in store it looked so much better for the same purposes.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @abhphilly I like that stroller but I would definitely miss the convenience of having a parent tray with a cup holder/ place to phone and a kid tray for them to put cups/snacks!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @lincbeesmom I registered for a separate parent one. None of the strollers I was considering had a kid tray since they're all ultra compact, so we'll just have to deal with that when the time comes. :)

  • For the first year, i’m planning on using the infant car seats with this double snap n go

Once they outgrow their car seats, I’ll upgrade to the contours options. I would love to see this in store first but there’s nowhere around me to do so. Not going to buy this one until closer to the 9 month to 1 year mark though.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @abhphilly I also registered for one because the double stroller I want doesn’t have a parent tray either and the kids trays are sold separately haha
