TTTC Checkin 10/17/2017

Hey all,

It's checkin time...  Congratulations to any BFP's and hugs to anybody who needs one.

There is so much going on lately and I've been really struggling to keep everything updated! It's been two weeks since the last checkin, so I hope that we have lots of good news to share.

Please take a minute to look at your name on the list and let me know if I need to make any corrections....

How is everybody doing?

Re: TTTC Checkin 10/17/2017

  • Tomorrow morning I've got an ultrasound to determine ovulation timing--anyone ever done that?  If they don't see anything tomorrow do I go in again the next day until they do?  Or will they just be able to tell?  It'll be CD12; usually I get a positive OPK on CD14-15.

Once we are positive of ovulation, then we move forward with the IUI.  I'm not holding my breath--there's still only a 20% chance that we'd get pregnant, but it's stronger than it was before.

Also, DH wants to sell our house and move.  He wants something nicer with a bit more storage space.  He's willing to make a fiscally lateral move (no more than $5k over what we're paying now), but I'm just not quite on board.  We're going to see a 3BR/2.5BA townhouse that's in a prime location with a low HOA, 2 stories plus a finished basement...it's perfect, but I'm just feeling all kinds of up-in-the-air with this TTC stuff.  I think deep down he's getting all wrapped up in this because he's nervous about kids.  His parents have a run-down little house that they moved into thinking it would just be a starter home, and now they're still there 25 years later.  He doesn't want to get trapped in our old little house once we have childcare expenses.  Anybody else see your SO go through stuff like this?

QOTW: We have a place called St Louis Crisis Nursery here--it provides a safe, temporary place for children to stay when there's turmoil at home, and it gives some families time to keep kids from being put in the foster care system.  It seems like a really incredible place with a great mission.  (http://crisisnurserykids.org/)

@GoldenKeys No progesterone treatment yet, still just on Metformin. That may change after seeing a specialist.

    Congrats @MooFish2364!!

@soehlerk FX that it works out for you and ovulation is confirmed! I can understand you DH not wanting to get stuck in an older home, but I can also understand why you are hesitiant. I wish I had some suggestion or good advice for you!

    **TW**

I finally got a BFP last week after about 2 weeks of symptoms. I miscarried last night. I was just over 5 weeks. This makes 3 total miscarriages, 2 within 3 months. A coworker recommended the specialist she used. SO and I are discussing the financials of it as my insurance doesn't cover anything. I would love suggestions on how any of you have gone about paying for treatments.

  • @MooFish2364 congrats

@eranvo27 I'm so sorry to hear about you having another loss.  You may have posted about it previously but have you gotten the recurrent miscarriage panel done?  Sending you lots of positive thoughts and if you ever need to talk feel free to message me.

AFM- Our embryos got biopsied last Tuesday and we ended up losing one when they were thawed for the biopsy.  I'm so frustrated we lost another one but I keep trying to tell myself it must not have been viable.  We should get our results as early as Friday but I assume it won't be until next week.

  • @soehlerk - my H wouldn't even start TTC with me until we'd bought a house! He really wanted more financial stability for our children than he had as a child. So I totally understand!

    @MooFish2364 - that's great news!!! Yey!!! Congratulations!!!!

@eranvo27 - Oh God, I'm so sorry! :( Man, just when you think you've figured out the IF problem, too... Ugh. So disheartening, as well as, just, sad. Ugh. Sending you a big hug.

Our insurance doesn't cover anything either, but we didn't do anything creative - we just financed the whole thing with debt, and now work all the time and live very, very frugally. (A lot of staying in and eating lentil soup.)

Other people have gotten creative with jobs. This thread was floating around not too long ago:
    https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12716254/starbucks-insurance-and-ivf

I've heard Nordstrom covers it too. At one point I thought about getting a part time job at Nordstrom to pay for IVF, and when I actually did the math on how much I would be paid - how much I'd have to work, and the benefits I'd receive - I'd have been making something crazy, like $50/hour!

@Worldtraveler0522 - Oh man, I'm sorry about your lost embryo! Tragic! How many do you have now? 3? Keeping fingers crossed for you!

@GoldenKeys - Can you update me to Rx: IVF please? The polyp wasn't really a diagnosis - I think I developed it after all of the treatments. (Thanks estrogen!)

I wanted to say too, I've noticed the weekly checkins have been less frequent lately, and it made me wonder how you're doing. I hope all is well. I imagine you're a volunteer, and I know you've been doing this for a while... I really appreciate all you do! These boards have been a lifesaver for me, and they wouldn't be the same without you. Thank you!

    AFM
: Not much new here, just waiting on AF for transfer.

QOTW: There's a local homeless shelter that I really like. Sometimes we make donations and go and serve meals. Where we are, a lot of the homeless people are very clearly struggling with mental illness - when we have less debt, we'd like to look for a mental illness research organization to donate to. (Or even just the programs at one of the nearby hospitals.)

  • Congrats @MooFish2364 ; :)
And I'm so sorry for your loss @eranvo27 - my heart goes out to you.

@soehlerk we are hoping to be able to buy a house soon, but things are very different here in Australia. You can get houses under $100k in the US can't you? In Sydney (where I live) the cheapest you can get a house is approx $600k, and that's for over an hour from the city. In the city pretty much everywhere is over a million.

AFM - I finished taking the Provera over a week ago, so AF should have come yesterday. I'm hoping it comes in the next day or so otherwise I'll have to call the clinic and see what to do next. Once it does come I'll be starting letrozole again.

    QOTW:

  • @tops-2 oh yeah, we're talking about like a $150k house--nothing like that.  The prices depend on where you live, but things are pretty affordable in the midwest.

Update: I just got off the phone w/ the RE.  They're having me do an HCG trigger shot (Ovidrel) tonight (8-9pm) and an IUI Friday morning.  I'm actually not quite as freaked out as I expected, but ask me again right before I do it.   :s FX this is successful!

  • @MooFish2364 congrats!! That is so exciting!!

@eranvo27 so sorry to hear about your loss. That is so disappointing and heartbreaking. I hope this is the last time you have to go through this!

@GoldenKeys just met with my RE and my official diagnosis is DOR.

@soehlerk this is your first IUI? I just got triggered this morning with IUI tomorrow afternoon, so I’m right there with you! Exciting :)

I met with my RE yesterday and we decided that if this IUI (#3) doesn’t work well move on to IVF in November. I’m nervous but excited. Just want this to happen already! Hopefully the IUI will work and we won’t have to worry about it though. IUI is tomorrow afternoon, so fx!

Meanwhile we’re meeting with a different clinic next week since I figured I should shop around a little if we really need to start IVF. I like my current RE but this other clinic has better success rates supposedly... idk how much stock to put in the numbers. If I go with the new RE it’ll likely delay us a lot bc we might have to redo testing etc before starting and I’m really anxious to get started already. I guess we’ll go for the consult and make our decision next week. How much do you guys consider the number from sarc/cdc when choosing your clinic?

  • hi everyone!

it's good to see an active thread & hear what's happening in everyone's lives. I relate to so many of you.

@MooFish2364 so happy to hear about your BFP !!! love hearing good news. hope you are feeling well, and congratulations!!

@Worldtravler0522 i'm sorry about the loss of one of your embryos, i hope you get positive results friday.

@eranvo27 i'm so sorry to hear about your lastest MC *TW* I too, have gone through three MC all within 7 months and it was devastating. I hope you are hanging in there, and are allowing yourself the time and space to feel whatever it is that you feel. sending you hugs

AFM, I am in almost the exact same boat as you @soehlerk, we are literally one day apart!

Since Monday, I have been going to my RE for daily blood and ultrasounds. Last week I did 5 days of Letrozole (2.5mg) and have been scheduled to administer my ovidrel shot tomorrow and our IUI is scheduled for Friday and Saturday morning. I didn't know they would do two days in a row, but I was happy to learn that. I happen to absolutely hate needles and am not looking forward to the ovidrel shot, but my husband is going to do it and hopefully it will be easy breezy! I think the continual bloodwork and upcoming shot has been the hardest part, but I recognize I am a big baby!! @soehlerk I hope you this IUI does the trick for you, I will be thinking of you! Let me know how the shot goes and good luck to you!! @mac627 wishing you the best of luck with your third IUI. I really hope it works for you. That is a really tough decision regarding sticking with your current RE or going forward with another. I'm not sure what I would do, but I do love my RE and have a good relationship with her so it might be hard to start all over again, and I'm not sure I would be able to wait!

One thing that keeps weighing my mind is that my RE never did a sperm analysis on my husband given that we that we were getting pregnant months ago (all MC & never saw a fetus or heard a hearbeat), so I'm kind of hoping that we don't get any shocking news about his sperm count when we do our IUI friday. She told me she wasn't concerned about it bc of the pregnancies, but I always kind of wanted that peace of mind.

@GoldenKeys can you update me to Rx: IUI w/ letrozole

QOTW: I would say right now my favorite charity is the American Cancer Society. My twin sister works for ACS and it's awesome seeing how much they do for cancer patients, especially women battling breast cancer. She organizes a huge walk here in NJ each year and it's such a positive and uplifting day filled with strong and resilient women!

  • Hi ladies! I have been a little MIA lately. Things have been a little stressful in my life and we have kind of been on a TTc break since the last failed IUI. Just wanted to pop in real quick and say hello, hugs to everyone who needs one!

@GoldenKeys can you update my DX to I explained and my RX to IVF?

Also, @mac627 I am in the SAME BOAT as you. We have an IVF consult with my RE on 10/31. His SART success rates aren’t fantastic (around 40%). There is another doctor we have a consult with in January that is 4 hours away who has closet to 70% success rate. If we go with that doctor we will have to wait until at least May since I will be off work for the summer. I am curious to see what both docs say, but it’s a tough call. It’s a lot of money to spend and we want to have the best chance of success as possible, but the idea of waiting even longer than we have been just really makes me feel sad. Thinking of you as you make this tough decision!

Also, from what I understand the SART stats should be taken with a grain of salt, because doctors can choose which patients they do IVF with. So if someone comes in with a poor prognosis the doctor could decide not to take them on as a patent, thus inflating their success rates.

@mac627 good luck on your IUI!!  This is my second IUI, but my first one had no trigger, just Clomid, and it was back in August.  Since then we've just been working on getting my ovulation stronger.

@tinabell8 Awesome!!  It feels good to have somebody else on the same track.  I'm kind of jelly they're doing 2 IUIs in a row--so (TMI?) does that mean your DH has to provide 2 samples?  Or do they split the one?  And I'd definitely feel weird about it if my RE didn't check DH's sperm--I mean it's super simple, just to rule it out, right?

The Ovidrel trigger shot went flawlessly.  I opened up the package and then suddenly panicked b/c I couldn't get the top off the needle, so I called one of my friends who has been through this for years, and she told me they're almost all pull-off (not twist), and that I then needed to push the plunger up to get out all the air.  I assumed the syringe would come with instructions, but there were barely any!  Just a bunch of warnings  :D  I had also watched some youtube videos to prepare for this (neurotic much?), so I felt pretty ready, and I just did it.  It didn't hurt at all; it was just unfamiliar.  But then it was over, no blood, no pain.  The worst part was standing in line at the Walgreens pharmacy with sick kids and angry parents.

We need Infertility Badges, like the Girl Scouts--one for your first medicated cycle, one for your first self-administered injection, etc.

One thing I learned (which you all probably already knew), apparently you can't just test for HCG the next morning.  I had been told not to take a HPT b/c it would give a false positive, but I wanted to see the false positive to be reassured that I was doing everything right.  Joke's on me--apparently the HCG won't show up on a HPT that shortly after the shot.  I emailed my RE this morning, and she said everything is fine, that's totally normal...and to stop taking home tests.   :#

FX for your IUIs!  We've got this!

Sorry for all the long posts; it's been a busy week.

  • @Kim41313 I’ve heard the same thing about success rates! It makes sense that the numbers could be biased if one clinic will do IVF with anyone who wants to and another will only take patients they know will likely be successful. I guess I want to see anyway. 4 hours away is crazy!! The two I’m considering are each 30 min away - I can’t imagine having to drive that far every day or every other day!! I’m guessing you’re a teacher - me too! Wish I could work this out for the summer but I don’t want to wait! Makes total sense that you would need to if you choose the far clinic though. I’ll be curious to see what you end up doing!

@soehlerk I’m glad the trigger was NBD for you! My RE also offered back to back IUIs but I declined. They would have done one this afternoon and one tomorrow morning (with two separate samples) but they told me it only increases your chances by 1-2%. So personally I didn’t want to take off work for two days for only 1%. Also DH probably doesn’t want to produce two samples in a row ha.

  • @mac627 I am a teacher! I know, 4 hours away seems like madness to me too! We would probably just stay there for like 2 weeks. My husband’s job is flexible - he has a lot of PTO and he’s also able to remote work so for him he could make it work. But for me, we would need to wait until the summer time. Which seems SO FAR AWAY and I really don’t want to wait that long. I thought I would be okay with it, but this week I have been feeling really stalled out with this whole thing. (*tw* It doesn’t help that a coworker announced her pregnancy this week *tw*). I feel like people are doing laps around me and I am just standing in one place.

I just did my trigger shot with the help of my husband and was really relieved that it wasn't as bad as I thought! No bleeding which was a nice and relatively quick. It's the anticipation that gets ya!  We looked like two stooges sitting there with the YouTube video up going back and forth if we were ready yet. And I totally agree, we should absolutely earn badges for getting through each next new phase of this journey. Super proud of us if that makes any difference haha!

I don't mind the question at all! he's going to have to give two sperm samples back to back tomorrow and Saturday morning. They told us waiting 2-3 days before his first sample would be ideal so he's done that. I guess two days of IUI that is their standard procedure because it didn't seem like it was an option, I wonder what your RE would say if you asked @soehlerk. Luckily it's falling on a Saturday which is great with not having to take two days off of work! I am a teacher too, @Kim41313 and @mac627

wishing all of you luck and I'll be thinking of you ladies!

@Worldtravler0522 I'm so glad to hear you have two normal embryos! A step in the right direction for sure

Today was my IUI, and everything went smoothly.  DH's sample was solid (anyone else's SO get all macho-man upon hearing a good sperm count?), and my cramping is minimal.  Progesterone test next Friday.

  • Hi all!  I missed last week and I'm late again this week.  But catching up now....

@MooFish2364 Congratulations!!  I'm so happy to hear this!

@eranvo27 I am so, so sorry for your loss and all you have been through these past couple of months.  Lots of creepy internet hugs to you today.  I'm glad you and YH are thinking of seeing a specialist.  The financing is definitely the most difficult part of this all.  I was fortunate that my insurance covered IUIs--which I didn't realize it did, nor did I realize that was mandatory in NYS until we contacted an RE.  You're probably more on top of your insurance coverage than I, but you might also be pleasantly surprised.  I don't remember where you are, but in NYS there is also a state grant program that some clinics participate in, which helps pay for IVF.  Even if you're not in NYS, it's worth looking to see if something similar exists in your state.  I'd also recommend just talking to the billing people at your RE's office because they can probably give you lots of advice on how others have financed this all.

@Worldtravler0522 ; I am really sorry about the loss of one.  That is so frustrating and doubly so after your losses.  I am REALLY glad to hear you've got two normal embryos!!  That is great news!

    @tops-2 I am also a fundraiser! :)

@soehlerk I'm glad your IUI went well!

@mac627 Congrats on your IUI.  For the outcomes, I didn't pay any attention to them and in fact didn't know they existed until we were well into the process with our RE.  I chose my RE solely because the clinic was recommended by my OB and they're both through the same university hospital system.  That said, I did tell DH that if this transfer fails, I wanted to think about a second opinion.  Probably we'd just go to the clinic his urologist is with, but I'd also probably put some actual effort into looking into the ratings.

@tinabell8 Good luck with your IUIs!

FX for a quick TWW and positive (pun? intended) outcome for all doing IUIs this week. :)

@GoldenKeys My RX can be updated to IVF.  Thanks!

AFM CD8 of my FET cycle.  I started the estrogen pills last Sunday, and go back in for a lining check on Monday.  Right now they're projecting Nov. 2for the FET.  I'm slightly less hopeful than I was during our first IVF cycle in August, but still trying to be positive (literally and figuratively, haha).

QOTW DH and I support the Bowery Mission here in NYC, which provides services for the homeless. We did a lot of research into good homeless service orgs and were happy with their work.

  • @soehlerk so glad your IUI went well today! Sending all the positive thoughts your way! I have a little bit of cramping tonight too, but not much! If you don't mind me asking, maybe this is TMI but can I ask what your husband's numbers were today?

I mentioned earlier in this thread that my RE never did a SA on my husband so today, he gave his sperm for our IUI and they said it was 18mil and 67% motility. They said they like to see it above 20mil but that his motility was good. Haha and then they proceeded with the procedure. It's been in my head all day today worrying if tomorrow when we go for our second session of this IUI that it might be even lower. Do you ladies have the run down on what these numbers mean? Been researching online and I'm gathering that he's a little below normal? I don't really want to get on him about his daily habits, but it's definitely on my mind. I will see my RE tomorrow as I saw another doctor in the practice today, and plan on asking her what she thinks!

@Bababatty it's hard finding a balance between excited/hopeful and trying to manage expectations. Sending good vibes your way and hope this is the one for you!

  • @soehlerk & @tinabell8 - I'm glad your IUIs went well - fingers crossed for good results!

So, it's been 11 days since I finished the provera and still no AF :( I went to the clinic today and they took some blood but I'm a bit worried because they didn't call me with the results. It's 6:30pm here now and they ALWAYS call same day, by about 2pm. So now that tomorrow is Sunday and they're closed I won't find out what's going on until Monday.
Has anyone else experienced this? Not getting AF after provera.. My paranoid brain is telling me that there is something wrong, and they haven't called because they're trying to figure it out.

@soehlerk and @tinabell8 glad the IUIs went well! Now for the dreaded tww.

As for the sample numbers, my RE likes at least 20 million too- my hubs was at 45 million last time. But it only takes one!!

    @Bababatty hoping this fet works!!

@tops-2 I haven’t experienced that but it sounds incredibly frustrating!! I hope you hear from them soon!

  • **Username Change!! Just so everyone knows, this is msstephanielynn**

I had to change my username because my password kept resetting for some odd reason. Anyways, apparently the bump puts you in a waiting period before you can contribute, so I finally broke out of the bump jail! Catching up now… so many IUIs so I can’t wait to hear results from TWW (hopefully a ton of positives).

@goldenkeys Can you update my username? Also RX will be septum resection surgery, baby aspirin & progesterone. Thanks :)

@soehlerk Glad to hear that IUI went well! Stay positive. I can somewhat see where your hubs is coming from. We have a nice starter home, which we very well could continue to live in, but now with the prices shooting up and our wants to be debt free, we’re finding it hard to make the switch. Just a note, I wish we would have looked into the school system more as well so if you do make the jump, it may be something to consider!

@moofish2364 I think that I officially congratulated on another board, but YAY! Congratulations again. So happy for you, but sad to see you go.

@eranvo27 Ugh, I am so sorry to hear this.

@worldtravler0522 Sorry to hear that you lost one. Great news for the 2 normal embryos!

@funkykey Hope AF comes soon. I love your charity. I am in the city for work and see very many mentally ill homeless. It’s heartbreaking.

@tops-2 Sorry AF did not come as planned. Hopefully they call you today. Waiting all weekend is not fair on their part!

@mac627 Good luck on your IUI! I can’t speak personally, but I would call the new clinic to see how many of your records will transfer.

@tinabell8 That’s odd that they wouldn’t do a sperm analysis? Seems like an easy quick look. Stay positive though, good luck with the IUI!

@Kim41313 I completely understand taking a break. Sometimes it helps to reset things before getting back in the game. Positive thoughts for you! I definitely feel the same way since I’ve been benched, like I’m just kicking dirt and circling the drain while everyone else is moving mountains.

@bababatty I love the literally and figuratively, haha. Stay positive :)

AFM: Just healing from surgery and waiting for AF to come. I did ovulate a little late. At my follow-up my OB confirmed that I would just be put on baby aspirin and progesterone suppositories. And also now once I am pregnant will require increased monitoring for incompetent cervix. Debating if I should go through RE or OB since they both had the same treatment plan. I think OB may have more insurance coverage.

QOTW: We give a lot to a foundation which supports a very rare eye disorder that I have. I have really striking blue eyes that don’t do their job very well (seeing) because of degeneration of the cornea. They are still doing a lot of research trying to understand the genetics of the disease, but since it is so rare, it’s heavily under-funded. *TW* I just pray that my son doesn’t end up with it because he definitely has my eyes. *TW*

  • Welcome back, @honeybeebub!  Personally, if your RE and OB are offering the same treatment plan, I'd probably go with the OB for greater insurance coverage, and send copies of your records to your RE if you need to go back to them.  Of course, you might get better monitoring at your RE...

@tinabell8 How did your econd IUI go?  Your H's motility is excellent. Still, it's good to get an SA done because they really should be looking at the whole picture of you as a couple.  But really I hope you don't need it because I hope you're successful this cycle, obviously!

    Thank you, @worldtravler0522!

@tops-2 I'm happy you can move forward with the letrozole.  Yay!

  • @soehlerk how is everything going?

I am kinda doing the same route as some of you, this cycle will be my first cycle doing Letrozole.
Today is my last day of BC, they expect me to bleed the 29th-30th, then I take 25mg of Letrozole (2.5mg x 10 at once) a week from today, then the following Tuesday I go in for my first U/S.

Last cycle I ovulated really well by myself they said, but I didn't ovulate till say 28-29 with a 45 day cycle! So this time they will be controlling my cycle.

We aren't doing IUI, just Timed Intercourse.

Has anyone taken Letrozole and was able to ovulate well by themselves before taking it? (or like me, ovulates well by your self just really late?)
If so... How many mature eggs did your body create first time on it?

    TIA!
  • @knottie1467155066 I had a long response to your other thread but TB ate it. Suffice to say I'm happy you finally found an RE that you like! Sounds like that first RE was obnoxious and you shouldn't have to deal with that, especially since this is such an emotional process. Anyway, to answer your question here, I O normally on my own and found that my follies matured much quicker on clomid and letrozole. Normally I O around CD16, but those cycles I triggered often around CD11 or CD12. Everyone's different, but you might find your cycle shortened.

Do you mind me asking, did it work for you? How many cycles did you try it?
Also how many follicles were you able to produce first time on Letrozole?

    XOXO
  • @bababatty You hit the nail on the head. I seriously can't decide which place will give better monitoring. There is only one doc at my RE's office, and I feel like she is always traveling to the other clinics... so I almost wonder if the OB would be better since he did my surgery as well and is aware of the loss history.  Are you getting excited for next week FET?

@knottie1467155066 Whew! Lots of numbers there. I have no personal experience with letrozole, but hope that it helps regulate your cycle :)

@Knottie1467155066 No, it didn't work for me. As my RE says, "The sperm and egg are not connecting." So we made them connect with IVF and now I'm waiting for my FET.  ;) I used clomid one cycle and letrozole for five cycles (we did 6 IUIs total). On letrozole I got 2 mature follies every cycle.

@honeybeebub Hmm it does feel like the OB would give you more attention. Has the RE given you any idea of how much she weighs in on monitoring results during the cycle? I am getting excited! I'm wary after the fresh transfer failed, because that was devastating, but I'm trying to be hopeful.

  • @Bababatty please let me know how the IVF worked, I am praying for some baby dust for you.
& Thank you for answering my question, I am crossing my fingers that I get at least 2 really good follicles but I don't want to get my hopes up. We are kinda pushing for twins, because we don't know if I could do this again. So really I want 3 really good follicles but beggars can't be choosers so I would be happy with 2 lol

  • @Knottie1467155066 Welcome to the group!  To answer your question, I've been taking Letrozole (3 tablets/day of 2.5mg for CD3-7), and I was ovulating on my own before, but very weakly.

I just got my CD21 progesterone #s back from this cycle (Letrozole + HCG trigger shot + IUI), and they're boss-level.  39.1--this is up from 9.9 last month.  I'm trying not to let this go to my head; I know it doesn't guarantee a BFP or anything.  But it's really exciting to think that I'm ovulating strongly now.   :)
