Questions - Week of 10/8

Re: Questions - Week of 10/8

  • @SoFlaMommie1128 I'm currently taking Flagyl (just for a week) to clear up a bacterial infection.  I was having some discomfort and brought it to my OB's attention and he said there as some type of infection that's not dangerous and they don't know why it happens or what causes it but it just happens.  Long story short he prescribed Flagyl to get rid of the infection and said that it's safe for the baby and it's safe for me to take with my penicillin allergy.  Now in my case it's only a 7 day prescription so I don't know if you need to take yours longer than that...

  • @chasingroygbiv thank you! Now that you mention it, I remember seeing your post that you were dealing with this. They prescribed it for me, so it's ready at the pharmacy if I take it.

I'm going to talk to the doctor more today. Of course I don't want there to be any harm to the baby if it is left untreated, so it will be good to discuss the benefits v risks. They told me it is a category B drug for pregnancy, which seems okay
  • @chasingroygbiv hope you are feeling better now!
  • @LaurenAnn0405 thank you! Yes, just like yours, this is a 7-day prescription, too. I'm just always leery of taking anything (even when I'm not pregnant) and especially so now. I appreciate you sharing your experience and hope you are feeling better. It does seem to be a common issue for a lot of pregnant women, and Flagyl seems to be what's always prescribed, so that's reassuring.
  • @mintea hell yes.. since about 14 weeks consistently.  my jeans barely fit at that point so I switched to maternity pants - the panel on them is really low so all my regular tops are way too short. I'm basically exclusively wearing maternity now unless I'm just kicking it at home
  • Anyone have any experience with BV and taking Flagyl during pregnancy? Seeing my dr this afternoon, but nervous to take anything...
I did at 8 weeks. It made me so sick, even though I took it on a full stomach and full glass of water. Definitely take it with food and swallow fast. I ended up switched to vaginal suppositories after 3 doses because the side effects were crippling for me, so know that is likely an option for you as well if the oral meds don’t work with your gut
  • @Gingermom15 ah, that's good to know. I don't do well with any medicine (super sensitive stomach) and will definitely take it only on a full stomach.
  • I feel like this baby needs to move on up! He feels so low,  like when you're 9 months prego and feel like they will just fall out!

THIS.  I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was wondering if it was because I had a cerclage for IC. I still only feel movement right above my pubic bone. I thought he'd be higher by now.

  • @cford08 @bravoandprosecco every time baby moves it feels like they're about to fall out, so I'm totally relating to you ladies right now. I naturally carry really low so the next  21 weeks are going to be fun
  • did anybody have difficulties stopping diclectin or diclegis? I really thought i was ready as I've been feeling really rally good for weeks - but the last two days have been super rough.
  • @bb3vj3n I am terrified to stop. I forgot one day and felt fine, but worried it was a fluke. Maybe just cut back to start. That's my plan when I have 10 pills left lol.
  • @bb3vj3n, did you wean or just cut them cold turkey? I'm 16 weeks now and plan to start wearning after the 20 week mark. I was sick with DS until 24 weeks. So hoping to slowly cut back.
  • @justkeeptrying I just stopped. I only have about 20 pills left so I decided to just go for it. Maybe that was a mistake?

I have an OB appointment Monday- ill ask him then whether or not he thinks I should continue
  • @bb3vj3n, it's hard to say! I definitely plan on weaning. I started at 4/day and raised it to 6/day. So I figure I should cut back gradually. Plus I'm still nauseous in the afternoons/evenings so I'm taking Zofran too. Needless to say, I just refilled my Diclectin prescription today. Got another 360 pills. It was almost $500!!!! Thank goodness for insurance!!
  • @SoFlaMommie1128 Thanks for bringing this up. I've been hesitant to take Flagyl for your sake reasons along with the recommendation to not nurse for 12 hours. At 2 doses a day, that's essentially like asking someone to stop nursing for the course of treatment.

My midwife suggested a few natural and holistic alternatives and in a month we will recheck for BV. They might not work but at least I have peace of mind that I tried!
  • @bettyvonsomethingstein If it's canned tuna I think 1-2 times a week is good. Fresh tuna should be more limited to 1-2 times a month, if I remember correctly. Canned tuna has less mercury in it.
  • So on a scale of 1 to tequila, where is tuna fish?  Like specifically a deli tuna salad sandwich.  I totally understand the reason for limiting tuna is not arbitrary, but I can't seem to find anything other than words like "limiting" tuna intake.  What does than mean?  Like, a sandwich a week, is that too much?  This is very important.  The cravings are strong.
One serving of canned tuna a week is fine. (I think there is more concern for the tuna/fish that get really big because of mercury.)

  • @bettyvonsomethingstein I have the same moral objections and try not to eat JJ's but during my first tri all I wanted was their veggie sub w/ extra avocado spread and now in my second tri I want the Vito all the time. I guess I will have to give them up again when I'm not pregnant :/

Maybe in the meantime I'll do a donation to some kind of organization that helps elephants.  Or something.

  • Just wondering - as most of these babes will be born in the winter - what type of newborn winter gear do we need to purchase? like - do newborns need a winter coat etc? I figured I should buy this stuff soon as winter stuff is more in stores...i just don't know what I need.

Can any other cold climate mama's chime in?
  • @bb3vj3n I would buy a coat for the sake of making sure you have something for when you go outdoors. Just remember that it's not safe to have them wearing the winter coat while in a car seat, so it will be more so just draped over them and they'll only actually wear it when you're carrying them.
  • @bb3vj3n my son was December and this is what we bought specifically for the weather

    - SHOWER CAP STYLE car seat cover (not one that goes behind the straps this just goes over the car seat front)
    - fleece onesie bear suit - I don't know how to explain it but it was from old navy and it was like a fleece snow suit we used it for walks - also not to be used in car seat if car seat is being used in vehicle, it's fine for walks though
-vitamin d - specifically important for indoor days where baby isn't getting much natural vitamin d
    - lots of blankets/hats

honestly, I think that's about it.

    @bb3vj3n

this particular one is only $26

  • @bb3vj3n I wish I could be more helpful. We live TX now and my daughter was a "fall" baby (LOL fall in TX) but we're going to be moving somewhere that's a more cold climate early next year before baby is born, and my plan right now is just long pants and shirts with caps in the car, and then a winter coat for walks/instances where we're outside.
  • I usually get told further in pregnancy to take iron supps. I'm finding myself so extremely tired 24/7 and this time there's two in there leeching from me. My ob hasn't suggested it yet and I don't think I'm seeing him at my next appointment- I believe he's on vacation. Would y'all jump the gun and just start taking them?
  • @syssa-o I was never told to take them in my last pregnancy (despite being low iron - she just told me to eat more spinach) so I'm not sure? I guess it can't hurt, but I would make sure there isn't some weird side effect to having too much iron, just in case you don't NEED the supplement yet.
  • @ShawnnaO yeah... all it says is that excess amounts of iron can cause issues for mom and baby SO I'm going to close my own question by saying that I asked medical advice. Lol

I'm just going to email my nurse and see what she says... I got lucky with a super cool nurse staff who is okay with their patients emailing questions.
  • Anyone have experience with yeast infections during 2nd tri? I'm pretty sure I'm starting one, usual symptoms for me. Of course now, because I'm prepping for and then teaching at a conf on Saturday. Internet says monostat is safe, but to talk to dr. I have a call in to them, but just wondering what to expect.

  • @muggle621 Oh dang. Now I want a Vito...

@bb3vj3n I second the shower cap style car seat cover. DD was an August baby so still pretty little in the winter. We just used that, dressed her warmly, and added a blanket if it was really cold. She also had a hat and gloves (that she started pulling off in February :joy:.) When she was little we really just kept her in her car seat while out and about, though we are total homebodies and also not into winter activities.

  • Is anyone doing something cute for a sex reveal online? We live so far away that I like to do cute stuff online at least since we don't really get to do anything in person for friends/family. Our anatomy scan isn't scheduled yet but my fingers are crossed we find out before Halloween so I was thinking something Halloween or fall themed?

@ShawnnaO there are a ton of really cute pumpkin ideas on pinterest. We find out on the 20th, so I think we'll either carve pumpkins that say "it's a boy/girl" or do something like this:

  • @ashleyf911 yeah I've been looking on Pinterest and nothing really catches my eye. We'll probably end up doing something with pumpkins though.
  • I think I want to do some fall photos for my daughter in the next few weekends. So I might take those, post them, and then a little later in a seperate post saying "oh yeah, one more." Post a photo of her next to a sign that says "It's a ______!" With some little pink/blue pumpkins.
  • I think we will order some glowstickd in pink/blue and light up or jack o lantern this year with those instead of the usual tea light candle
  • @bb3vj3n oh my goodness I love that.
