Inconsolable, only wants Dad when upset

My 23 mo has been waking up in the middle of the night (sometimes during nap) crying or screaming, and he’s inconsolable unless my husband comforts him. He gets mad at me, hits, kicks, doesn’t want to be picked up, but doesn’t do any of this with Dad. I’m a SAHM! What do I do when Dad isn’t here to console him?

  • Honestly... I would just tell him that behavior isn't okay and just put him back in his crib. My LO is also 23 months old and has been having tantrums like that, and if i try to console her it just drags on and on. I usually just tell her I'm sorry she's upset and walk away (unless she's hurt). If she starts hitting me i tell her, it's not okay to hit anybody, and again I walk away. She calms down much faster without an audience.
