Re: MoM (Moms of Multiples) October Check-in

  • amanning2011 - Very cool! We have a nursing room as well but it's locked and I've never been inside so not sure what's actually in there. lol. I just spoke with HR recently and discovered I get 18-20 weeks paid leave (20 for C-section, 18 if not) and a $500 cash benefit for each baby! I'll have to look into that pump thing, thanks for the reminder!

  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake that is an amazing amount of leave  I think I get 7 weeks at 70% of my pay if I have a C-section and 6 if I have a vaginal birth.

  • amanning2011 - It definitely is and I'm extremely grateful for it. Especially considering how poor this country treats working mothers. The United States is in dire need of reform in it's failure to guarantee paid maternity leave.
  • @amanning2011 I didn't think about not being able to drive, but now that you mention it I'm thinking it's a big possibility for me as well. Im already as big as i was with my last baby when i gave birth, or at least i feel like it.
  • @Gingham How did your appointment go on Tuesday?
AFM on Tuesday at my MFM appointment both babies measured 8oz each and my placenta still hadn't moved but everything looked good. I was hoping to see the babies interacting with eachother, but instead they just kept doing flips in there. Today I am 19wks! Im starting to feel so uncomfortable..how about everyone else?
  • What are you guys doing for car seats? Will you all be getting bucket seats? A big part of me wants to but with my son we had him in a convertible seat @ 11 mos.... so I'm thinking
    2 chicco keyfit 30= $600
and then another 2 convertible seats in less than a year?

  • @momma6angels11 - I too feel very large! People (strangers) are beginning to ask me how far along I am - expecting me to say "I'm due next month!" and when I say "about 5 months" they just react with "Really???"

This is my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare it to but I'm very interested to find out how far along I'm measuring at my doctors appt on Tuesday.

I still feel pretty good except this week I've begun to have a difficult time sleeping. It's very hard to get comfortable as stomach and back sleeping are off limits which are my favorites sleep positions. I'm going to invest in a good pregnancy pillow soon...like today.
  • @momma6angels11 I'm feeling big, but I think for right now a lot of it is bloating since my belly seems (to me at least lol) to be bigger in the morning. I keep going back a forth between being worried that I'm not eating enough and worrying that I'm eating too much, lol. I haven't had any awkward questions from strangers yet, but my co-workers keep forgetting that I'm not as far along as I look, lol.

@syssa-o We are planning on infant car seats to begin with. We have a Graco click connect stroller so we are looking at click connect car seats to go with it. I have a lot of extended family and we are some of the last to have kids so we are looking forward to a lot of hand-me-downs for a lot of stuff so we can go a little more on the car seats.

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake Let us know which pregnancy pillow you get and if you like it. I've tried 3 different ones and still can't get comfortable on my side. I also keep waking up on my back :/

  • @momma6angels11 My appointment on Tuesday went well, thanks for asking!  I've just been getting quick ultrasounds every other week to make sure the two are doing ok.  Now my next appointment is the anatomy scan but not for 3 more weeks!  I finally get to get on a "normal" pregnant woman schedule (for now at least).

I am definitely getting pretty huge.  I'm 17 weeks and about the size that I was with my son at 24 weeks.  Surprisingly, I was way more uncomfortable early on in my last pregnancy (back and tailbone pain) than I am now.  Remind me - are there any other STM here?

How's everyone's morning/all day sickness? I think I am FINALLY starting to feel better.
  • @gingham I'm a STM! My DD will be 2 in January. This being my second pregnancy I guess I feel a little more prepared than I did last time, but honestly I think it's a whole new ballgame when it comes to delivering and caring for twins!
  • @Gingham I am a stm! Mine turned two in June. Totally different this pregnancy. For starters, caring for a toddler while pregnant is tough! There have been many moments where I think “how in the world am I going to do THIS and have two newborn babies?!” Also, kind of sad at the same time because while my two year old drives me nuts sometimes, I also love having that one on one time. Looking forward to seeing him as a big brother

@Gingham I’m a STM too! DD will be 2 in december
  • @Gingham TTM mom over here but totally feeling out of my element with two in there!
  • Oh you guys, I am so freaking exhausted. I am waiting for this 2nd trimester "burst of energy". And waiting. And waiting some more....
I'm beginning to think it doesn't exist for mamas with multiples. Anyone else?
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake I hear you. I could sleep at any given time during the day. It is impossible to do anything productive because sleep always wins :(
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake i hear you!! I think it just might be a thing for multiples!!
Anyone have any appointments coming up? When are your Anatomy Scans? If you had yours already, how much did they each weigh?
@amanning2011 what does walmart give you for making a baby registry?
@Gingham STM as well..my youngest is turning 10 mths this thursday..
  • @mnddnvn @awolfff @sardavbak @syssa-o @momma6angels11 oh wow, I didn't realize there were so many of us!  You all have little ones, too.  My DS is 5 so and pretty self sufficient so most days I come home from work, hand him a snack and the iPad and he's good for awhile, hehe.

What are you guys doing for cars/carseats?  Minivans?  We have a Honda CRV and I think it's going to be a reallly tight fit with two infant seats and a booster.  Any suggestions? We really don't want to have to buy a new car.

  • @Gingham car seats has been a nonstop conversation for us and I'm tired of it... lol. We have a Ford F-150 but we got the biggest cab sothabkfully we can fit 3 car seats across with room to spare. DS is in the middle in a forward facing graco nautilus and we will have two chicco keyfit 30s flanking it. It's going to suck in a year when we buy convertible seats but we've decided that the convenience of having bucket seats for the first few months is worth the extra money.
  • @Gingham we are joining the minivan club next month...I wasn’t too happy about that at first, but now I’m kind of excited to get one. It just seemed like the most practical option. I drive a Honda Fit and there is no way it would fit three car seats!

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake congrats!! Sounds like all went well at your appointment :)
  • @Gingham this article might be of help too if you are thinking about doing three car seats across:
    https://thecarseatlady.com/fitting3across/
  • @awolfff thanks for the article link!  I did read in a comment that it's possible to do 3 seats in a Honda Fit.

    Congrats @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake!!
  • Doh! Didn’t even see that! Lol. I don’t know how they managed that! My kid’s car seat takes up a lot of space. Eitherway, the fit still lacks the space in general and I don’t see it as a good choice for us. But it’s good to know, three car seats is a possibility!
  • @momma6angels11 From what I can find you just get a welcome thing like at Target or Babies R Us. But samples and coupons are always welcome, lol.

Our anatomy scan isn't until November 7th (I think) and we are doing a gender reveal party on the 12th. I want us to be surprised at the party (I think it will make better pictures) so that's when we will officially find out :)

I'm a FTM and kind of glad I know my car will hold 2 carseats :) My husband has an older Ford Ranger so we're going to have to replace his truck so he can watch the kids when I go back to work without us having to switch vehicles.

  • I was just checking in to see who has found out the sexes.  How exciting! We are doing an elective u/s today since my anatomy scan isn't for another 3 weeks.  @vflux33 I'm  feeling like I have 2 boys too!  Are you in NorCal?  So scary and sad with all the fires.  That must be so stressful.  We're in Southern CA and it's supposed to be 100 degrees the next few days so I'm expecting that there will be some more fires :(
  • @Gingham Yup, I'm in rural NorCal, in the county which sustained the most loss, unfortunately. Couldn't sleep the night of the 8th and felt something was "off" then went outside and saw the flames from our driveway. We had one fire directly to the north and another directly to the east so we went ahead and voluntarily evacuated for a week, and then spent this last week back home recuperating offline. It was pretty scary. Thankfully, most of our town, including our street, was spared, but my hospital is in one of the badly effected areas and hasn't totally reopened yet, which is part of why I'm worried my 2nd tri blood test results may have gotten lost somewhere (and I had to get my AS in another county)  Down in SoCal you are probably way more used to this than me!

We were really expecting at least one girl! Excited, but to say we were caught off guard would be an understatement. Neither of us grew up with brothers so we're clueless about raising boys. Will be an adventure for sure. Why do you think you're having 2 boys? Please report back later and let us know if you're right!
  • @vflux33 That's just devastating.  I'm so sorry, but glad that your neighborhood is ok.

So my instinct was right for once...two boys!  I'm not sure why I felt it was two boys, other than I already have a boy and just feel like a "boy mom".  Boys are fun! My 5 yo already eats us out of house and home so I'm a little worried about the teenage years LOL.
  • @Gingham Wow your instinct is a lot better than mine! Congrats! Us boy moms will have to stick together <3
  • Glad your home is safe! Hope you blood tests turn up soon. Congrats @vflux33 and @Gingham on your healthy boys!!

What are all the stm doing with the older siblings when it comes time to have the twins?
  • @awolfff we have a very good friend nearby and last March (coincidentally lol) she had to drop her son off at 3am to have her baby so we will be returning the favour! Lol I’m hoping for a short hospital stay if twins are ok - last time we spent about 14ish hours 10pm-12:30pm so we are hoping for that.... but if that doesn’t pan out, H will spend the first night with me and after that be at home with DS
  • @syssa-o so nice that you guys have that available and close to you too! We are still trying to figure it out. My parents live about 25 minutes away, but I’m not sure they will stay at our house (which is what we prefer). Not sure we will have any other choice though.
  • @awolfff I hear ya... we would love him to stay at our home. The saving grace is that our two boys are best buds. We are moving before babies though and it may put us further from her house which will be s dilemma because the new house we are liking is closer to the hospital so dropping him off would be back tracking and our hospital is an hour away with no traffic (mid day or overnight, traffic at all other times) and I have very quick labours. Sooooo we definitely need some fine tuning lol. Too bad DS isn’t old enough for an Uber LOL
  • Did any of you MoMs get an elevated result for AFP on your 2nd tri quad (genetic) screening? We were supposed to get our results weeks ago but it got delayed from the fire and I haven't seen the full results or gotten follow up call yet from the genetics department, but my AFP is supposedly elevated. I heard this was more common for twins so just trying to reassure myself by seeing if any of you had this and then were later told the risk was very minimal?
  • @syssa-o haha yeah, an uber would be great! Labor with my first went super fast too - labored at home for about 6hrs and then went to the hospital only to have our son 2 hours later! Nobody seemed to believe me that it was time because I was a first time Mom and then they checked me and saw I was at 9.5cm. So, not really sure what to expect this time around- kind of concerned about having to factor in either waiting for my mom (or someone else) to arrive at our house or driving him somewhere! Part of me wants to just have whoever is able to meet us at the hospital...but we need to make sure we coordinate really well.

@vflux33 I didn’t do the genetic testing, but I would be annoying the crap out of them trying to obtain the results! I know when they suspected a heart defect on my first son and I kept getting mixed information, I called them repeatedly and eventually spoke with the medical director (who was happy to help clarify things). Maybe not the best way to do things, but it was effective and they seemed really understanding.
  • @awolfff Thanks for your response! I just got a message that they don't see a need for more testing at this time and that the numbers were elevated because of being twins. I'm so, so relieved. I have to say I'm a bit irritated I was alarmed over nothing, but mostly just relieved.
  • @vflux33 that’s great news! Glad they got back to you. What a relief!
  • @vflux33 & @Gingham - yay for boy moms! We found out about our two boys last week and I'm so excited. My instinct told me at least one of them was a boy (thought the other may be a girl) but nope! I'm totally outnumbered since my hubby has a son already and my fur baby is a boy too. lol

AFM, I started feeling my squirmy babes yesterday and it's such a cool feeling. I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow and I can feel my left side boy more than my right since of the anterior placenta on that side but am just loving this movement.

Had a bit of a scare yesterday at work - felt super dizzy and thought I might faint. Still not sure what happened there but my OB thinks I'm anemic and started me on iron pills. Will get labs back in a couple days to know for sure. But that would also explain the lethargy I have been feeling lately...
  • There has been no second trimester burst of energy. The exhaustion I am feeling daily is awful. I could sleep anywhere/anytime
