DD has really bad diarreah (sp???) and has an AWFUL diaper rash. She hurts badly:( I've cleaned her up, put lots of A&D on, and I've let her have no diaper time...but it still hurts...would tylenol help relieve any of the pain?
Tylenol or Motrin. Are you sure she doesn't have a yeast infection? Those would require different meds than A&D. Cool wash cloths also help with diaper rash. Poor little girl.
You probably need to take her in to be sure it is yeast...unless you've seen it before. I never have. I would also try the ideas the other pp gave. Is there a chance it is something she is eating?
Make sure she is totally dry down there before you put a diaper on her (moisture just breeds bacteria and makes it harder for her to heal). If you can keep her out of a diaper for a little bit a few times a day, it really does help (we had this issue last week).
And my ALL means, please make Co's recipe for diaper cream and use it ASAP. It WORKS. It works REALLY well. And the Maalox in it helps to neutralize the acid in her poop which is making her hiney burn.
And add baking soda to her bath. A good amount of it (we used at least 1/2 box at a time!). That really seems to help too. By doing all of this, DS's rash was almost gone in a day and a half.
We've been going through the same thing since thursday. He was having diaherra almost every hour and his bum got so bad. Now it's much better. ah thank god! it was horrible. pedi said he has a stomche virus. could be couple days to 2 weeks. wash with mild soap every diaper change which was like every hour or 2 for us. dry completely...then cortizone cream and then I mixed balmex (any diaper cream with zinc oxide would work though) with a&d (mine's the clear one) but you can use vaseline, aquaphor. It got bad though only because I didn't start that in the beginning...it burned his skin off so the dr had to give me a prescription and that took like a day and a half. it's still alittle rashy but it doesn't seem to bother him anymore. but I'm still using the cortizone and balmex mix.
Re: Tylenol for diaper rash PAIN?
I get asked regularly on here, but have a magical diaper cream remedy...
Balmex (My fave, but any white diaper cream works)
Maalox (liquid...anti-acid)
Nystatin (or athletes cream, if it's yeast)
Hydrocortison (for pain)
Baby Cornstarch/Powder to thicken it up.
In the meantime, I'd use tylenol or ibuprofen to help with the pain.
How would I know if it's yeast (or do I just need to take her to the doctor)? The rash definitely came and has gotten worse with each BM.
Thanks for the help!
