The year is supposed to be 97 because they were born in 80 and this is supposed to be when they're 17. I read an article today with an interview of the creator of the show. He said everything was a clue and it was all very specific. Takeaways for me were I'm glad Kate got knocked down a peg but I'm really glad is was because she wasn't good enough. Good for Toby for being sick of Kevin and Kate and standing up to say he should be her person. I'm glad Sophie showed up because I need them to work out. Randall and Beth are crazy but I love them. I do like that she's on board to foster adopt an older child because she was right. That could so easily have been Randall.
@Saratiff But she wasn't covered in smoke or anything. None of the kids were. I guess the season is supposed to peel away what happened. BUT I WANNA KNOW NOWWWWWWW!
My only thought is the kids weren't at the hospital, which you would think if they had been trapped in a fire, they would have gone to the hospital. I wonder if he quit drinking or if it was a drunk accident...
Rebecca had a steelers jersey on, which makes me think they were watching the game... his watch seemed intact in the belongings bag, which makes me unsure it was a big dramatic explosion.. but I'm not an explosives expert haha
@sparkymcgeee 1998 could still be right if they are 17. It could be before their 18th birthday in that year.
Edit: autocorrect was wrong
But it's supposed to be this time of year so 1997. Does your car registration say this year or next year when it expires depending on when it expires? Mine is for May of next year so my sticker says 2018.
I love this show, but I felt I was underwhelmed with the reveal. I had read some Facebook posts about how torn up people were or how they needed to mentally recover or how they needed to eat their feelings, so I think I pictured something more dramatic. I was prepared for tears and then was like "uhh, what? That's the end?" I'm thinking him and Kate were supposed to hang out and she did something else so he started drinking, got a little drunk, went to make something to eat, and passed out. Then a fire started, but he wasn't awake to smell it and died from the smoke. I have no basis for my theory.
I have no theories about how it happened except the fireman who brought Randal to the hospital is definitely involved some how. Either he’s the one that pulls him out or something.
Love This Is Us! I actually didn't cry this episode until the kids were crying at the end. Whyyy were there so many commercials?! I'm hoping the rest of the episodes have less.
Do people actually watch commercials? My "live" is starting into the show when it's partially recorded so I can fast forward. I told DH not to bother me from 7:40 to 9 tonight so I could watch Greys uninterrupted.

This- exactly this!
Married DH : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat) DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18 FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!
I cried every week before I got pregnant, now these pregnancy hormones have me sobbing!! When Kate found out she was pregnant, I lost it..literally ugly cried on the couch.
Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the show and last season I teared up at everything but this season I am just not there emotionally yet. Now there are a few things that have shocked me and if they would have kept going I could tell I would cry but not yet.
I get why they did it- with the shows popularity they are creating a powerful platform to tell a story that is common but still difficult and often not spoken about. BUT why couldn’t they think of me and have a happy story. They could have added drama by having the baby have colaic or something.
Re: Anyone watch This is Us?
edit words are hard and improper use of your and you're make me stabby
And Kate thinks it's her fault soooo maybe she light the fire? Or was trapped somehow and he saved her?

I just dont understand how if he died in the house his belongings were intact still.
