  • How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green/Surprise? 29 weeks, girl

How old are your other kids?
    DS is 20 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  Please tell me I'm not the only one who is actually like the mom in 'Love You Forever' and sneaks into my kids room at night to cuddle him while he sleeps? Please? Tell me I am not alone haha

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : The crib arrived yesterday! I can't wait to put it together! We also bought a change table from Ikea and installed it in the living room so that will make my life a lot easier, especially when there's two bums to change!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ DH still won't have a serious discussion about names. It's getting fucking annoying.

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after)
I would really like to go to the spa and get my hair done with a mani/pedi... But DH is probably working weekends for the forseeable future and I can't justify putting DS in dayhome to do it :(

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  My dd suddenly stopped sleeping well. She wakes up screaming and just wants me in the room with her. I go in, pat her back or rock her and she’s fine. As soon as I leave, she’s screaming!  We gave Motrin last night because she is getting a tooth right now, but this back and forth to her room still went on for an hour and a half. Could this be a sign that she’s ready for one nap? She currently takes two, but does often take 20+ minutes to fall asleep for the first one. We are so tired over here lol.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I’m excited for baby snuggles. Dd is so busy being a toddler that snuggly moments are less frequent. I also can’t wait to see how she reacts to her sister.

dh got a me a pre stale massage gift card. I need to use it!

  • @failuretofly DD always asks me if I'll watch her dream, so I usually go in her room check on her, tuck her in some more, and give her kisses :)

How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green/Surprise?
27 and a half weeks, Blue
How old are your other kids?
    She'll be 5 in a month.
Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  She started kindergarten this month, loves class, but since she's a latchkey kid she doesn't like the older kids and is pretty shy. I keep telling her they are nice, but she says they are scary. I hope she comes around soon, because at drop off I've seen her tear up a little a couple times, breaks my heart.
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : She's always saying "my brother" this or that, super cute. I also love when she gives my belly hugs and kisses.
Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ Nothing really. We're pretty much all set for DD's 5th birthday party, so many unicorns and rainbows, just have to make some unicorn tails. Is it weird to have the guest eating cake/ice cream while she opens gifts, to try and move it along?
GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after ) Mani/Pedi for.sure. Maybe a facial?

    27 weeks, Team Green!

How old are your other kids?

    DS is 5

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
Right now my biggest struggle is keeping the house running while we try to get my MiL and BiL out of our house. Ugh! They have been staying in our house for 1.5 and 3.5 year respectively. Basically neither can adult worth a shit and we are picking up the slack. We almost have it worked out so that Mil can move back into her townhouse and BiL can go with her next week. It isn't perfect but ugh I have been dying for some relief.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I'm just so excited to have a new squishy infant to look forward to. This is our last and I am going to savor every second.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions
So so tired. I know its normal but I just can not keep up right now. Between the house and work, even with DH pulling his share and more, I am dying. All I want to do is sleep.

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after)
Right now just naps. I need to make a chiropractor appt just for some maintenance but keep forgetting.
  • Kirss I've been to several kids' parties lately that didn't open gifts at all. I know some people think that's a problem but it really streamlines the process.

DD is 4 years and change, DS will be 2 on 10/6!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now? We're about to/already have kind of embark/ed on the potty training adventure with DS. He is eager, enjoys undies, and has had several successes (and a handful of accidents) over the last two weeks, I just need a few normal days at home to really get him moving in the right direction, but we're renovating our kitchen and I find I have to keep the kids out of the house/away from home on the weekends because they don't love all the banging, AND table saws and chop saws don't exactly scream kid friendly. I don't want to miss this window of interest he's showing!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I just posted this over on the Weds ticker change - so my apologies for being redundant - but DS moved into his "big boy bed" last week sort of all on his own. It's been set up in his room for a few weeks because we had to move some furniture around and the other night he wanted to be tucked in there and not his crib. I'm equal parts excited for him and that it was a smooth transition, and sad that he's a "big boy" now.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ Anyone a little stressed about the holidays? On the one hand, I feel like it will be low-key, I'm due 12/27, so we're not hosting anything or planning on going anywhere. But on the other, I still need to make it special for my other two. I also feel like I need to start coming up with ideas and crossing items off the list so I'm ready ahead of schedule so to speak, in case this babe comes early.

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after) I have a massage scheduled for the end of October, and a hair appointment in a couple weeks, and my girl cousin's and I have planned our annual kid-free day to the outlets to do some early Christmas shopping in early November. We're also trekking to VA for my cousin's wedding in about a month and my kids will be with my in-laws, so it will be a nice weekend away for my DH and me.

  • @kaylawing - my two outgrew the morning nap around the 14-15 month range, but my son did a similar thing when he was teething, needing to be comforted a few times a night. You could always skip it and see what happens!

@kirss - the no gift opening seems to be the new trend. DD had three parties this last year and they didn't open the gifts at any of them. But we did get thank you cards. Personally, I kind of like it, it moved things along and then all the kids weren't swarming over the birthday-child's new things (I was dealing with 4 year-olds). I tried to pull the same thing for DD's birthday but my MIL was NOT having it.

  • @oncape100615, @darkfyre I love the idea of not opening stuff at all, but I think MIL would have words because she tends to wrap up the most redic crap (when DD turned 2 she individually wrapped over 20 things) and of course she wants everyone to see how many boxes of band-aids she bought her granddaughter. I might try it anyways.

  • How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green/Surprise? 29 weeks, team girl!

How old are your other kids?
    1 year!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  She's been waking up once a night fussing and sometimes needing a bottle. She'll take a full 8-10 ounces so I know she's hungry, but it's strange because she's been sleeping 12-13 hours straight since she was 6 months old. However, she's getting some back teeth that I think are the culprit!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : Can't wait to have two little girls so close in age. I hope they're besties.  <3

Rants/Raves/Randoms/QuestionsI have anxiety over baby's birth. Last time, I was not vocal about my wishes/boundaries with visitors in the hospital...it caused a lot of stress on me. This time, I'm going to be much more firm and am feeling a little anxious about it.

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after) Uhm, surviving. "Pampering myself" is the 5 minutes I have to lie in silence before I fall asleep at night. My husband keeps telling me to go get a massage, haircut, manicure, whatever...but all I want to do is spend time with them. I really need to get out more!
  • @kirss I think our MIL's could be besties! Mine wants everyone to see how much my daughter just LOOOOVEEESSS what she got her best of all. And then, when the 4 year old's reaction doesn't meet her unrealistic expectation she gets snarky at me. #rational

  • @ab920 Teething is no fun. I have no advice at all other than to tell you you’re not alone.  We are going through the same thing.

@Kirss we were just at a two year olds birthday party this weekend and they didn’t open gifts at the party. It was actually kind of nice. The kids had more time to play and eat and have fun.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
I don't care what I do my daughter WON'T use the toilet! She's been a relatively easy child but she has no interest at all! I was hoping to avoid two in diapers.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :   I'm so excited for my daughter to meet her brother. Shes been soo excited to have a baby around. Also I can't wait for those newborn snuggles❤

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/   I'm nervous for the labor part of this pregnancy. Both of my pregnancies have been so easy but we almost lost my daughter during labor so I'm nervous for it this time. I also worry about a big baby, she was 8 pounds 2 oz and the Dr had concerns because I have a smaller frame.

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after)     next weekend I'm getting a prenatal massage with a gift card I got last Christmas!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
We are moving and he's not great with transition so I'm nervous about how he's going to handle the change.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
he's the sweetest little boy and I love watching him grow and learn and I can't wait to see this LOs personality and see their similarities and differences.

So I scheduled our family pictures before the end of September thinking that it would be nice and cool weather except it was 90° today and I was sweating profusely.   I hope they came out OK.  I can't wait for fall weather to actually be here

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  My son is hitting. Me, specifically. I cant remember if I mentioned this last week but UGH it's hard. We're working on being gentle, but man oh man the thought of him and a delicate little newborn right now is frightening.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : Well, baby girl is named so that's a win. DS is sweet with the baby doll we got him (most of the time at least lol) so that makes me smile and helps negate the whole hitting thing a bit.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ I am sick of feeling like a dragon. Acid reflex is the worst.

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after) I am going to get a massage soon. Right be baby arrives I'd like to treat myself to a mani and pedi. Working on getting DH on board with hiring someone to come deep clean the house.

  • Guys I was watching birth videos on YouTube and DS was enthralled with them! He correctly pointed out the 'mama' and 'dada' in each of them and was so happy every time the baby came! I was nervous about whether or not to have him around when I have the baby but I think I definitely will have him there! He even went back to the computer later on after we had moved on to something else and pointed at it and said "Baby? Baby?" So we watched a few more!
If you're into birth videos I highly recommend looking up Natasha Hance on YouTube. Her videos are magical!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  I've got one that is walking and the other that is not. They are also currently cutting molars and seem to be in a constant state of crabbiness! Looking forward to this phase ending!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :  Hoping they are close growing up, that makes me happy.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ I failed my 1 hr glucose test so I get the joy of doing the 3 hour one soon.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  DD has another ear infection. One more in the next 3 months and she'll get tubes :(

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : Baby is kicking more when DD is on my lap, like LO is saying, "hi!" (or, "get off of me") So that makes me excited for when I can snuggle them both on the outside

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ We're still bathing DD in her baby tub. I mentioned to DH that we should probably figure out when to transition her to the big tub because 1) she's getting pretty big and 2) when baby arrives, we'll put the sling back in the tub and use it in the sink again, and I'd like to get her used to the big tub before then. We do bathe her in the big tub when traveling, but it usually requires both of us making sure she doesn't drown herself because she wants to stand up or slosh around or try to drink the water. DH asked if there is a seat or anything we could put in there for her. How did y'all transition to the big tub? Just do it?

GTKY: What are you doing to take care of / pamper yourself before baby arrives? (or planning for after) DH and I bought a Massage Envy package this year as our anniversary gift to each other, so pre-natal massages have been my main source of pampering. I do need a haircut, though.

@kaylawing DD switched to one nap a day when she moved up to the one-year old room at daycare, though on the weekend she still sometimes takes 2. I think you could definitely transition a 16-month-old to one nap

@Kirss I see nothing wrong with giving them cake while opening, as long as your DD is ok with opening while eating or eating after opening

@flowerpower5838 I am also worried about DD with the baby. She is pretty rough with our cat, and I just don't want her jumping on/pushing/trying to pull the baby's hair out (all of which she does to the cat at times). She doesn't usually hit me, but she does throw herself at me and try to crawl all over me on the reg, so I am also a bit worried about a c-section recovery with a body-slamming toddler!

@tmk0325 Sorry you have to do the 3 hour! I am really hoping I pass tomorrow--the 3 hour sounds like torture. Fingers crossed you pass this one.

  • @cait5413 we put DS straight into the big tub shortly after he started sitting on his own at 6 months! No special transition, just did it. Once he started standing in the tub (he basically does not sit in the tub at all anymore) we made sure there was a non-slip mat in the bottom.

  • @cait5413 we also just put dd in the tub one night. She loved it! But she’s always been a water girl. A friend did a laundry basket in the tub to help transition her son. That could be something to try if the big bath tub doesn’t go over well.

  • @kaylawing DD loves water, too--just a little too much sometimes. This summer she'd try to stand up and run in the baby pool without holding onto the side before she could walk! Now that she's steadier on her feet, it may not be quite as bad.

  • @cait5413 my boys LOVE the tub and water (we did swim lessons at 9 months), however we don't have a tub (just a standing shower in our small place), so we use the baby tub over the sink too. They get water everywhere because all the want to do is splash.  At least once a week we go to one of the grandparents houses and give them a big bath and let them splash around.  I do have to sit there with them though to make sure they don't stand up.  What you could try as a transition is a laundry basket in the bath. It will keep her contained but still let the water through.  That's what my brother and SIL with their kids when they started using the tub.
