Re: Saturday Ticker Change - 9/16

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 27 weeks!  A head of lettuce

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings? Pretty good. Each week I say "big" and then I just keep getting bigger.  My stress level has gone down from where it was a couple of weeks ago since we've made good progress on the house.

    3) Any appointments this week?
Nothing.  But I did get my 3 hour glucose tests results back.  I passed!

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)
Good!  We have our new master bedroom like 90% set up.  We need to finish painting the trim and then move some storage containers out, but otherwise it's good.  I think we're gonna start the nursery this weekend.  We're also going to test drive some cars so we can get that process rolling.  It's also exciting to see things come off our registry.  I'm so curious as to who picked what for us!

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? These leaking boobs are getting ON MY NERVES.  Man.  It's legit.

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn: I'm most scared for the delivery.  Ouch.  I'm most excited to start creating so many family traditions with our new, growing family!

  • Tennis11785 - Yay! Glad you passed the screening! Are your leaky boobs all day? I recently started noticing spots on our sheets and couldn't figure out what they were from. It wasn't until I realized that they were about boob-level that I figured out what was going on. So far mine only really seem to leak at night, although they get sore during the day.

    1) How far along are you
    ? How big is baby?
    29 weeks - acorn squash
    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?
I'm mostly ok as far as mobility goes. I've been staying pretty active between work and the kitchen remodel. Starting to get more back pain and the heartburn is still sporadically miserable, but it seems like the mysterious gallbladder/baby position pain is mostly gone.
    3) Any appointments this week?

I'm onto appointments every two weeks! Seems crazy! Next one is this Tuesday. Maybe it won't be a waste of time?
    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)

Same as last week - I still have accomplished basically nothing baby-related. We're running plumbing in our kitchen, though, and should get the replacement cabinet this week.
    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
We finally got rid of the old range from our dining room! Now we (DH) can finish the flooring in there and start moving stuff out of our bedroom/living room.
    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?
Scared: Breaking him? Getting super overwhelmed if I can't figure out why he's crying? Sleep deprivation? Dealing with nursing and work since I don't generally get any breaks? The list is quite long.
Excited: Seeing his personality come out and seeing what he looks like.
  • @Tennis11785 Congrats on passing the glucose screening! That must be a big relief.
@rebeckyjoy I'm glad your mystery pain has subsided. I feel like every day I have a new weird pain that I'm not sure I should worry about!

    1) How far along are you? How big is baby?
26 weeks! Ovia says bowling pins and I think that's awfully big... but it's more exciting than kale.

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?
Sore a good deal of the time. The back pain's been pretty bad today and the hip pain's rough at night too. I hate sleeping with a pillow between my legs and just sleeping, in general, feels more like a chore right now than something I actually want to do. No cravings really, maybe sweets, but not much more than before I was pregnant.

    3) Any appointments this week?

I have what will probably be my last big ultrasound at the MFM. I'm really excited because my sister is driving up to CT from Baltimore to be there for it and I'm so glad I get to share that with her.

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)

Slowly but surely. I've painted all the furniture, just need to do a second coat on a couple of items and DH put all the new knobs/pulls on the dresser drawers and storage cabinet this morning. Still need to finish the registry, but we're getting there. Since the shower will be after they're born it's not so urgent.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rave: It's the start of the Jewish holiday season! High holy days, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and then Sukkot. I'm not the most observant Jew, but this time of year makes me feel really connected to both my culture and my family and I can't wait until I get to share that with my kiddos!

Rant: Just the back pain... it really sucks!

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?
Scared: Mostly just the whole concept of dealing with 2 newborn babies at once! I think my biggest fears though are that they will both constantly be cluster feeding all day every day and that they will never sleep at the same time (and therefore I will never sleep at all).

Excited: Even though twins are super scary, I'm also really excited to watch them interact with each other. I'm also excited to see them individually reach milestones like smiling and cooing and to just do things like read and sing to them.
  • @Tennis11785 I feel the same way - I keep saying I feel big and the next week that feels like a joke.  Glad you passed your glucose test!
@rebeckyjoy I've been feeling like my OB appointments are a waste of time too.  I guess uneventful appointments are good, though!
@leilagphillips I've had back pain and trouble sleeping too.  I had just a pillow between my knees, but I just bought a boppy pillow that goes between my legs and up under my belly and I feel much more comfortable and supported now.

    1) How far along are you
? How big is baby? 27 weeks, lettuce (how freaking dull is that...)

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?  Just uncomfortable.  Nothing I can't manage!  No cravings.

    3) Any appointments this week?
Just going to the lab for my glucose screening tomorrow.  I think I've stalled as long as I can.

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)
Registry is done, and literally not one other thing.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? Rave: We closed on our house this week and have started making plans to get our shit together, so that's awesome.  Rant: My mom is pretty much useless in terms of my shower.  She's more excited for it than I am, but has done literally nothing, which would be fine if she didn't expect me to do it.  By no means do I have the time or energy but I guess I'm going to have to find it...

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?  Most scared for labor/birth and terrified my husband will miss it (work trip at 37.5 weeks which wouldn't be that early!).  Actually probably equally scared of killing my in-laws while they stay with us for a week...  I might be most excited to see my husband with the baby. He is dying for this kid to be his BFF and I bet it's adorable.

  • @Tennis11785 Leaky boobs are so annoying. Mine have only happened once, and I was so confused in the morning when I had these wierd splotches on my shirt!  Omg are you painting the trim yourself?  Bless you, I cannot STAND painting trim. It's the worst. Yay for progress on your room/s and new car shopping!
@rebeckyjoy Yes!  Your remodel is coming along!  I hope that cabinet works and isn't messed up. That'll be such a relief.
@leilagphillips Have you not gotten a snoogle yet?!  I just started sleeping with mine a couple weeks ago and I can't sleep without it now. I got a tshirt fabric cover for it and it's divine. Highly recommend!
@Piccola1988 That's great news about your house!  Gl with your glucose test - I have to do mine too and I'm totally avoiding it.

    1) How far along are you
    ? How big is baby?
25 weeks!  Babies are the size of prairie dogs :)

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?
Feeling ok. Definitely getting more back pain from doing nothing, which is really fun when you're trying to pack up a house!  No cravings!  In fact, nothing ever sounds appetizing, which is exactly the opposite of what I thought being pregnant would be.

    3) Any appointments this week?
I had Appts on Monday and they went well. My weight and BP are right on point and babies are doing great.

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)

Registries are done, nursery is completely put together - in my head. Picked out a paint color for the girls' room; gentle butterfly by benjamin Moore. It's a really soft, subtle pale pink. Super cute. Anyway, all their stuff is sitting in my garage until construction is done on our new house. Which at this rate will be fucking January.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Just that I hate the fact that we're remodeling a house right now. Its going to be gorgeous when it's finished, and the perfect home for us, but getting there without murdering someone will be VERY difficult.  We finally started packing today, so I had to stop pretending like we aren't moving in 2 weeks, and now I'm getting all sentimental about leaving this house. I'm planning to take a bath in my fabulous deep soaker tub every night until we move. Ugh, I'm so depressed.
Raves are that our new hardwood floors will be done a week early!  And they look fantastic!  Also, that babies are kicking me like crazy and I realllllly love it.

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?
I'm absolutely terrified of having 2 newborns at once. It was actually always my biggest fear, but I'm so grateful for it and couldn't imagine it any other way. I'm scared of being able to breastfeed them both, I'm scared of never sleeping again, I'm scared of having a sick baby, or a baby with colic that can never be soothed. I'm scared of one of them spitting up and choking before I can get to them. I mean, the list goes on and on. 2 really just changes everything and multiplies it by a freaking million.
I'm so excited to hold them and smell them and see them smile and laugh for the first time. I can't wait to see my husband with them. Im so excited for them to be best friends and for them to lie their little heads on my shoulder when I'm holding them and they're ready for a nap.  Everything. I'm so excited for everything!

@Tennis11785 yay for passing the glucose test!
@Piccola1988 congrats on the closing, so exciting!
@breezybee ugh packing is the worst. Good luck and I hope the next two weeks go quickly and as smoothly as possible!

    1) How far along are you
? How big is baby? 28w, coconut

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings? Pretty good, My hips get uncomfortable occasionally but nothing to complain about. Craving chocolate!

    3) Any appointments this week?
Routine uneventful appointment yesterday. Good news is that I only gained a pound since last time, so my doctor didn't make any comments about being mindful about what I eat. I may or may not have treated myself to a burger and tater tots afterwards.

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)
I took the past week off work to use up my vacation days before they expire, and got a lot done. Hired a doula, did a lot of decluttering and reorganizing. My greatest accomplishment was deciding what car seat/stroller combo to buy. I live in the city and primarily travel by walking/subway/cab so I was obsessing over covering every scenario. Literally spent hours at buy buy baby and woke up thinking about this in the middle of the night.. cray cray lol.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? The last week off was awesome and I'm glad that the nesting energy has finally kicked in.

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn? I'm scared that we'll end up trapped at home all winter because it will be freezing and difficult to get out. Plus a million other things I can't completely control like colic and breastfeeding problems. I'm excited for newborn cuddles, baby wearing and seeing DH with the baby!
  • @breezybee I was going to get one and then this woman in my expecting twins class said she had one and that it did nothing for her, so I held off getting it! I think you may have convinced me to go ahead and order one. The t-shirt cover sounds delightful too!
  • @leilagphillips +1 for the snoogle with a jersey cover! I love it! I ordered mine from bed bath and beyond using their 20% coupon which is really easy to find online.
  • @blueskies17 what stroller combo did you decide on?
@leilagphillips I hated it at first, but now that I'm big and need extra support, it's a lifesaver. Dooooo it!!!

@Piccola1988Your post made me laugh several times (in-laws, mom being useless for your shower), I can relate! Congrats on closing on your new home!
@blueskies17Isn't this whole weight gain thing way too complicated!? By the way, if you got the burger and fries from a local restaurant, I am so jelly - There isn't one dang establishment in my town has figured out to serve tater tots as a side yet?? Maybe it's a California thing lol

    1) How far along are you
    ? How big is baby?
28 weeks! Baby is an eggplant! Lol.

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?
I feel pretty good! A little tired, but I think that may be from my graveyard shifts, not to mention we just started homeschooling both DD's.

    3) Any appointments this week?
My next appt next Monday, midwife was sick at last scheduled appt date and had to reschedule. I love going to see her! Just means closer to baby time!

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)

We have A LOT of things to get done before the baby arrives, more than normal since we had an electrical fire at our home (repairs estimate to take 6 months) and are technically "homeless" at the moment - and we are planning a home birth SO missing that one factor - a freaking home - kinda complicates things! But I have faith it will all work out.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
With this pregnancy (3rd) I am IN LOVE WITH ICE CREAM...my rant is: how come no one told me how wonderful it was all my life?! I've been missing out! SMH haha

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?
I'm not afraid of anything. I'm a little nervous about going all natural for this little one, but I am also excited to break through barriers in myself with this experience and embrace all that natural birth has to offer! ALSO, excited to find out the sex, since we are #TeamGreen!!

@breezybee I decided on the Uppababy Cruz + babyzen yoyo + nuna pipa car seat. It's a bit splurgey but I feel good about managing the super portable yoyo with nuna pipa up and down subway stairs by myself. One of my concerns is that I'll never leave my immediate neighborhood with baby by myself because it'll be too hard to get through public transportation with a full size stroller. (Sorry for the essay lol)

@mommaharvey I'm hoping for an unmedicated birth as well, but will be at a hospital since it's my first and don't know what to expect. May not end up very natural at all but I'm just gonna go with the flow! I hope everything works out well with your house and birth! Edited to add: forgot to reply to your comment about burgers and tots- very important topic to me   I was very excited to see that as an option on the menu! And yes the weight gain thing is so confusing.. I was underweight before pregnancy and actively tried to gain the first few months until my doctor told me to chill ha.
  • @blueskies17 That's a perfect choice for city mauvering. We're getting the Vista, since, you know, twins, which is basically just a bigger version of the Cruz. But we're leaving city life for suburbia in a couple weeks, so I'm not too worried about it.
  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby?
26 weeks - a bowling pin. Um when did he get so big?!?!

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?
Feeling pretty good. Just some acid reflux sometimes. But I found out that eating apples does actually help. No cravings really right now.

    3) Any appointments this week?
    Nope

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)

My SIL brought over some nice baby things yesterday (a swing and a super cool jogging stroller). We signed up for a baby class that starts next month. We are going to register at Target today. No plan really- I don't know if I'm completely screwing up by only really researching the car seat and baby carrier. Everything else I feel kinda like, whatever!

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Had our niece (2) and nephew (5) over yesterday. Made me so excited to add baby to the mix! They are so cute and fun.

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?
    Scared- effects on marriage
Excited- seeing what he looks like
    31 years young
    from Seattle(ish)
    5 years married
    FTM and PGAL
    EDD is 12/23/17
    -- It's a BOY! ---

  • @rebeckyjoy - Mine seem to leak all day.  They don't seem to do it at night.  It's hard to tell on the breast pads I'm using if there is actually leakage.  It doesn't look like there is, but anytime I am around the house and bra-less, I find little spots on my shirts.  Also -- glad you're mysterious pain is gone!

@breezybee - Hopefully H will paint the trim.  Usually he does the main painting and then I do the trim work, but I'm trying to get him to do it cause I'm pregnant :-) Good luck packing and with the move.

@blueskies17 - Glad you made a ton of progress on stuff!

@mammaharvey - sorry to hear about the fire!  Hopefully the repairs go quickly.

  • @collectiveliving Thank you! Shana tova!
  • @blueskies17 Since it's been 7 years since DS, I'm feeling like this pregnancy is my first all over again lol, so I definitely feel ya on going with the flow! I'm confident our inner birth goddess will emerge and we'll have no problems, though! <3

@Tennis11785 Thank you for the kind words!
  • @Tennis11785  yay on passing your 3 hr test!
@moonlady-2 this might be a FFC - I'm excited to see what he's going to look like, but I've prayed that my baby will be cute....
@mammaharvey prayers that everything is repaired ahead of schedule.

    1) How far along are you
? How big is baby?  26 weeks, slow loris
    .
    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings? Over all not bad, sleeping is really a chore. I still like sour things, limeade and pickles, I feel like stereotypical pregnant cravings.
    3) Any appointments this week? Last week I had my GD test, and I'm *patiently* waiting the results, last time I had to do the three hour test.
    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)
Nothing has changed since last week, and I'm fine with that.
    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? Rant : Nothing this pregnancy related, but I have always been punctual. DD started Kindergarten 2 weeks ago and I can't find a grove and it is making me super irritated. Rave: Finally bought a belly band, why didn't I do this sooner?!
    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn? Scared I will forget to pick up DD at school because I will be sleeping, and she'll be on the school steps sitting in the rain. I'm also scared I'll pick favorites.  Excited to see the two of them interact together.

  • Hey Saturday friends!  I was traveling much of last week for a work conference in DC, so just finally settling back in and checking in quick.

    1) How far along are you
    ? How big is baby?
28 Weeks- eggplant!  Yay for 3rd trimester! :)

    2) How are you feeling? Any cravings?
I'm feeling pretty good.  Still having some hip/RLP, but doing my exercises and stretches, and going to the chiro again on Friday.  I'm not sure if prenatal yoga this weekend helped or exacerbated it.
In general, I'm doing well, trying to keep active and walking, even though I have slowed down a bit for sure.

No specific cravings, I'm just really hungry

    3) Any appointments this week?

Waiting for the results of the 1 hour glucose test that I went to take on Friday.
Midwife appointment later this week- I'm not at every 2 weeks appointments!

    4) How are your baby preparations going? (Nursery/ Registry/ Etc.)

Slowly, but surely.  I'm getting myself used to the idea that we will most likely not do *everything* on the big master "preparing for baby" spreadsheet, but that we will have the necessary stuff done.

We just started working on the registry this weekend- we won't be having a baby shower, or publishing until after the birth, as per our family traditions.  We will definitely celebrate afterwards!

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Sharing @leilagphillips - I'm looking forward to the Jewish high holidays coming up this week.  I get to take a flex day off this Thursday- first day of Rosh Hashanah, since I worked really long hours for our conference last week.  We have family dinners Wednesday and Thursday, and I can't wait to see cousins and other extended family members I haven't seen for a long time.  Our little nieces and nephews are SO excited for another baby coming soon.

We'll be out at a friend's family farm for some progressive Rosh Hashanah services during the day Thursday, and heading out to a Jewish environmental farm for a retreat (just for the day), next weekend for Yom Kippur.  I'm glad we'll have some spiritual time and just downtime.  :)

    6) GTKY: What are you most scared for and what are you most excited for with your newborn?
It's hard to even say- I feel like I have so much to learn about newborn babies, but I guess everyone learns by doing it, right?

I am really nervous about breastfeeding.  My Mom didn't breastfeed, and I didn't grow up around breastfeeding mothers.  My world now definitely involves getting to see some people breastfeed, and my DW's mom will be here around the time of the birth and she did breastfeed.  We are going to the class at the hospital this week, we have a fabulous doula, and I know we can get a lactation consultant if needed, and the place I do prenatal yoga also has a breastfeeding support group.  So we'll have tons of support, but still I am nervous about it.

I'm excite about, well, everything.  It's hard to even put into words!
