Sneak peek / early baby sex

Has anyone used this? I'm a little uncomfortable with collecting my own blood but also super impatient for 20 weeks...

Also for sale in Amazon for $80...

Re: Sneak peek / early baby sex

  • My OB doesn't do genetic testing unless you're high risk so I could see the draw for some people

  • If my OB offers genetic testing and insurance will cover it, I will do it.

Any at home test sounds untrustworthy...

  • @yesthisiskim0401 I don't think this is an at home per se. It's at home collection through a finger prick and then you send the sample to the company to process. I still don't know how I feel about it though

I mean, I wouldn't trust myself to do it right  :D

  • I work in Genetics, so I get a little annoyed when I see companies "selling out" and doing this.  There is such a back log on testing for police departments, diagnostic testing for hospitals, etc. but I realize this is where the money is.  Just makes me a little sad that they could be doing really good things.  And I absolutely don't fault people who choose to do it, either.  I would actually really like to do one of the dna ancestry tests, and get my girls tested for zygosity since I'm not entirely convinced they're identical.
Do you watch "smarter everyday" on YouTube? He just did a video on 23 and me that was kind of interesting!
  • No, I've never even heard of it.  I'll have to check it out!

It's neat because it talks about their process and how they handle the samples- plus the info you get back.
  • I would not do this. I'll get the Genetic test anyway since I'm high risk. I can wait six weeks.

  • If you are AMA do you automatically get the genetic test?
  • I am AMA and will have the Maternati21 (or however it is spelled). Protip: you will likely need pre-authorization from your insurance company in order for this test to be covered. If it isn't pre-auth'd, you'll be on the hook for the cost. At your first appt, set the ball rolling to get approval.

In my practice you do get it automatically if you're AMA.
  • It's pretty standard now for AMA but the insurance pre-auth is still probably the best way to make sure.

  • I wouldn’t.  They have recently had quite a few inaccurate results.  I’m waiting until my anatomy test.  Gives me something to look forward to.  I actually would love to be team green but it’s not very practical for me since I bargain hunt for clothes and buy used so I look ahead of time.
