TTTC Checkin 08/22/2017

Hi all, it's checkin time...

Congratulations to any BFP's, and hugs to anybody who needs one.

@Worldtravler0522  I am hoping SO HARD for excellent betas for you!

@tops-2  I'm so sorry about the stressful ultrasound and I'm hoping for a happy turnaround at your next one... hugs

Question: there were a couple of hints that a periodic "Confessions" post might be a good idea, where we can tell a secret without judgment.  Trigger warnings would be automatically implied. Should we make it a weekly thing?

Otherwise, how is everybody doing?

  • @Worldtravler0522 yesss!! Congratulations!

@GoldenKeys I'm down for a weekly confession. I don't know if I'll always have something to confess, but I can always read others's  :D

AFM, we had our IUI yesterday morning. My hopes are pretty high with 4-5 follicles, and MH's sample was pretty good (28 mil total motile! It was 12.5 mil last time). It went very smoothly, much smoother than last time, so overall we are happy with how things are going right now. I'll have my beta on 9/2, 12 dpiui because of Labor Day. My mom will be visiting that weekend, so I feel like that won't be ideal if we don't get good news, but I guess we'll deal with that if/when the time comes.

QOTW: I took some chicken enchiladas out of the freezer! I do a lot of freezer cooking for easy weeknight dinners since I don't really feel like cooking after work, plus I have been going to classes at the gym around 6, so it's easy for when I get home from all of that.
  • @Worldtravler0522 that sounds like good news!
@Kim41313 wishing you luck for your beta!

I am new to the check in- TTC for about a year and a half. Still in testing and don't have an official diagnosis, but I seem to have low AMH (I'm 31) and a possible blocked tube. Current plan is follistim, trigger and IUI.

This is our first IUI and I just started injections yesterday. I'm also doing testing this cycle- I have a hysteroscopy tomorrow morning and a saline HSG Thursday (already did one with dye with my last doctor). Hoping all goes well- a lot going on this week!

QOTW: @Worldtravler0522 I also had Chinese food! Chicken with broccoli. My hubs never wants Chinese and he's not home so I jumped at the chance!

  • **TW** (probably easiest just to TW every I write now..)

Thanks so much for the support everyone.
For those who have been through this, especially those who have been through it multiple times - I truly admire you. I feel like I am falling apart and drowning at the same time.
I honestly don't know how I am going to last another 6 days before finding out if we're going to lose our little one or if its had some miraculous, unexpected growth spurt. I've spent the most of today crying at my desk at work, and we've cancelled dinner with my sister in law tonight (we were planning on telling her the news). And the crying today probably wasn't helped by the arsehole who spent 10 minutes yelling at me on the phone today!
I guess I'm just angry at myself for being so naive in thinking everything would be ok. Even if on the almost non-existent chance everything IS ok, I won't be able to relax at all until its born.

So I suppose all I'm saying is thank you to all of you for being here even though you don't know me in person.. <3

  • @tops-2 hang in there as best you can.  Everything you are feeling is pretty much the same way I felt with my loss last Fall.  My dad gave me advice that helped me feel a little better mentally and hopefully it will bring you some peace too. When I was stressing and obsessing over what was going to happen he told me that today I am a mom and until I'm told otherwise I'm a mom and to not stress because there's nothing you can do to change the outcome.  For some reason it helped me. Thinking about you and hoping for the best!

  • @Worldtravler0522 - keeping everything crossed for you! Great news!

@Kim41313 - GL! Ugh, the dreaded TWW - hoping you have a BFP soon!

@tops-2 - I'm so, so sorry. :( IF is BRUTAL - like, it's so awful and dark. I haven't been through what you're going through, but I know what it's like to be angry at yourself for being naive. I've had so many nights, particularly over the last couple of months, where I've just thought: "Why did I think it would finally be my turn? Haven't I learned?" It is really hard to keep enduring this much pain and disappointment.

Anyway, I wanted to say: It's not you, you didn't do anything, you weren't naive, just hopeful. Being hopeful is good. I'm so so sorry this is happening to you, and while I very much hope you get good news next week, getting through this week is going to be a BITCH. Sending you all my good vibes and hoping you have at least 1-2 peaceful moments during this storm.

AFM: Just waiting, more waiting. The surgeon is on summer holidays, so I'll touch base with her when she's back, and hopefully they'll book me in. AF started a bit today; I wasn't expecting or even hoping for a BFP, but it still stings a little - such a stark reminder, like: "Nope, still not pregnant. You'll never be pregnant! Mwahahahahaha!  >:) "

Question: Sure, I could do confessions. :)

QOTW: We're trying a new chicken recipe, with coconut. We had Chinese on the weekend - it was delicious!
  • @tops-2 hurting for you! This is so tough and I totally get how you feel like you won't be able to stop worrying. I'm the same way! There's no way to know what will happen though, so try to take some me time and do whatever you do for stress relief. Hoping you have good results at your next appointment! You never know!

AFM, had my hysteroscopy today and they did my HSG at the same time. Extremely uncomfortable but really quick. Despite original evidence to the contrary, looks like both of my tubes are open! Yay!

@worldtraveler587 your beta increase is great news!! I hope your levels continue to rise. sending good vibes your way!

@Kim41313 hoping for a successful IUI for you!

@Mac627 welcome & wishing you the best of luck with your first IUI!

@tops-2 I have been in the same situation as you and know exactly how hard it is to try to stay positive when you can do nothing but worry and try to mentally prepare yourself for the worst, even when you are praying for the best. it is all-encompassing, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. I really really hope you get good news at your next appointment. you're allowed and entitled to be feeling this upset and unsettled, I certainly was the same way and am sending love your way. That's the funny thing about TTTC; all the happy feelings many people have with easy pregnancies are not the case for us, and so we jump at the idea of trying to think positive and wishing everything is going to be great and easy this time, as we should. You are deserving of that!  While I don't have advice to make things better for you while you wait, I know it helped me to go out to dinner or even go to a movie or anything that would keep my mind busy, even if it's for a short time.

    @funkykey AF really is a B, isn't she??

AFM: Hoping to ovulate in the next few days and praying that this time is going to be different. Trying to think positive, while managing expectations- the story of my life these days!

QOTW: Dinner tonight is shrimp tacos with a mango & avocado salsa, yum! Also, I love Chinese and DH pretty much hates it. Now I'm in the mood for Chinese!

I like the confessions idea :)

  • Pretty eventful week for me. They did my first iui with an ovadril shot 8 days ago and the second the next day. FI sperm was a little low (.43 day one and 1.47 day two doc said it's supposed to be at least .50) so he's got a referral for a urologist. but I had 1 great follicle and 12 good to okay ones so there's hope. Went in on Sunday for a blood test to check my progesterone level. It was 9.5 and they want it at 10 so I get to take prometrium vaginally twice a day. Started spotting tonight and I'm super irritated but the internet said the spotting is probably from my vagina being irritated. I also have had crazy heart burn since about 18 hours after the first iui that has been unforgiving ever since. Tums and 2% milk are currently one of my major food groups.

FI is stressing me out to death by constantly saying stuff like "I know youre pregnant" or poking my stomach and going "I know your in there" I go in on the 31st for a blood test to see if the iui worked.

    QOTW:
Tonight I caved and we got White Castle. 40 minute drive to deal with rude people and them giving us the wrong order. Tomorrow I'm probably going to throw a bag of ginger lime chicken and rice in the Crock-Pot before I leave for work. Horray for freezer meals.
  • Thank you so much for the support everyone. It really does help a lot.

I'm feeling about 10 times better today - mainly because of all the support, and because I have decided to just get myself into the mindset that it's gone. That way in the most likely scenario that it is, I won't be shocked and probably won't be quite as hurt. And if the news is good, it will be even more exciting.
So while I do still have a little hope tucked away I am mostly prepared for the worst. I think my main focus will just be getting back up on that horse and trying again as soon as we are able.

  • @worldtraveler587 I'm so happy for you!  That's awesome!
@fluffybookworm Ugh that's frustrating--I hope your progesterone levels increase soon!

So we were all set to TTC naturally (no IUI) while we work on getting my progesterone levels up through 150mg Clomid.  HOWEVER, my DH fell while running during his lunch break yesterday, and he broke a bone near his elbow.  So his arm is in a sling (no cast) with a splint on his wrist and big cuts on his knees.  Guys, we may be benched this month.  I'm due to ovulate this weekend, and I just don't think he's going to be up for it.  The pain pills generally make him ok if he's just sitting around, but he's not doing any physical activity for awhile.  Even if we were to do an IUI, he kind of needs another hand to hold the cup...too graphic?  Sorry.  I'm a jerk for trying to make him do this when he's injured.

Maybe this is a sign we should slow down?  Take a break?  Do we believe in signs?

Dinner:  Who the **** knows.  Something easy that DH can eat one-handed b/c goodness knows I'm not feeding him.

If it comes to it, of course I will be very proud of you for getting back on the horse... Though I hope it doesn't come to that!

@soehlerk - I love it, not too graphic at all. Besides which, if you do it right you're just helping him relieve pain/stress - which is about the least jerk-y thing you can do! • Hey everyone,
No nice surprise here - I'm back.
TW - as you can guess, follow up ultrasound did NOT give us good news, there were no change/no growth at all. Meeting with my RE later today to find out the next step as I have had no bleeding. I'm just hoping a D&C isn't needed because I'm scared of going under a GA (didn't go very well last time).
Surprisingly I'm actually coping pretty well. I suppose it was because we basically expected it so were already prepared for this outcome.

Here's hoping that we can get back to trying nice and quickly..

  • I’m going to try to be better at checking in consistently… and need to follow-up with how you are all doing…

I left my RE a few weeks ago feeling positive because we finally had answers. She mentioned that I would have my septate surgery with my next period, just to call with CD1 and we’ll be on our way to trying again. Fast forward to CD1 (only a week and a half later, which I mentioned at my appointment) this month and they don’t have any availability to do my surgery, need to try next month. I had gotten my hopes up so high that we could finally get this show on the road and all this would be behind me, but it got ripped away all because of vacations and they have too many transfers scheduled that week to fit me in. Crushed. On top of that my “due date” was next week and my labs came back indeterminate for the clotting disorder, so off to the hematologist I go. So back to circling the drain.

In other news I finally signed up for the gym membership to start back swimming. Last night was my first night back and it was so mind clearing and motivating. I think I’ll be relying on this heavily to get me through this emotionally/physically and disconnect from the countdown to hopefully surgery in a few weeks.

QOTW: We have beef and chicken breast thawed out so I’ll have to figure out something to throw together when I get home :)

  • @worldtravler0522 Amazing news! Hope your ultrasound went well

@Kim41313 Fingers crossed for your IUI and first beta. Tell me all your secrets for freezer cooking! I need to get on that train!

@tops-2 Thinking of you in this tough time. I know personally how devastating it can be. Fingers crossed that things play out how you would like it to.

@Mac627 Woo for open tubes! I agree they are super uncomfortable. Hopefully we both only have to go through them once!

@tinabell8 I wish I could manage expectations! I think it would help a lot of the ups and downs, so if you’re able to – I admire it. I saw that you are taking baby aspirin. Do you mind me asking why? It’s something that my RE also suggested for me.

@fluffybookworm Fingers crossed for you today at your beta!

@soehlerk  That sounds terrible for your DH. But I feel like I would try to make my DH do it too, so don’t feel guilty!

@Bababatty Sorry to hear about your last cycle. It seriously pains me that this is not covered by insurance. Hopefully you will get answers and a new plan of action :(

  • @tops-2 I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you can avoid a D&C since you don't reach well with GA.

@fluffybookworm sending you positive thoughts for your beta today!

@soehlerk how did it go!? was DH up for it??

@Worldtravler0522 how is it going? any updates? hope you are feeling great!

@tops-2 I had you in my prayers, I'm so sorry about the terrible news. I had a similar issue in which my body was not recognizing the loss & also had to have a d&c. I know you mentioned going under GA did not go well for you. I am extremely sensitive under GA and actually asked them to give me anti-nausea meds because I get sick afterwards and it actually helped. Not sure if this is your issue, but thought I would mention in case your doctor suggests the procedure. You're in my thoughts, sending you love & hugs :(

@msstephanielynn how unfair. its hard enough to not have control over so many things throughout this whole process, and then to not be able to proceed because they are booked? i would be feeling the exact same way :( as for the trying to manage expectations- that is definitely a daily battle. I feel like a crazy person most of the time! some days I wake up feeling positive like things are about to change and then other days I am so in my own mind, replaying every single thing, and worrying about it all. Women who have no problems and get KU in a heartbeat, do not realize how lucky they are! As for the aspirin, my RE actually tested me for the blood clotting disorder but I came up negative for it. *TW* I have been pregnant three times since December and all of them resulted in different types of losses/MCs. So after the last one, we discussed options and decided the aspirin is kind of a last ditch effort by my DR until November, where we will try IUI next if unsuccessful. She said it isn't a guarantee, but has been helpful in some cases with RPL. I started taking it last cycle with no success last month, and am now waiting to see if this month is different.

AFM, 7DPO today and going to try to hold off on HPT until my first beta bloodwork on Sept 8th. RE checked progesterone again, which was above 10 (where they want it) so no supplemental progesterone.

  • @tinabell8 Wow I feel like I could have written your post. I often wonder if I am going crazy with all of this. Part of the reason why I feel like I come in and out of discussions here - try to stop myself from obsessing and being mayor of Crazy Town.  *TW* I also have had 3 M/Cs. I do get pregnant easily, but keeping the pregnancy is the problem. Keep us updated on the beta results! Fingers crossed for you :)
  • @Worldtravler0522: YAY!!! Congratulations! As hard as it is, try to stay positive and enjoy it!

  • @tinabell8 FX for you!!  That's great about the progesterone!
@Worldtravler0522 that's SO awesome; I'm so happy for you.  Worrying accomplishes nothing, so yes, stay positive!

DH was up for it...twice in two days!  While I know you're supposed to wait a day in between, I'll take whatever I can get.  This whole infertility thing has been exhausting for us, and sex has become a chore, so the fact that he was excited about it on a day of a positive OPK--all with a broken arm--is just short of miraculous.  So now I'm in the TWW.  RE will test my progesterone on Tuesday morning, and I'll test next weekend.

Trying to take my own advice and stay positive.  :)

So my RE sent me to our local hospital to start me on medication to bring on a miscarriage (misoprostol?). So I had that last night and suffered through the worst, most excruciating cramps of my life. No bleeding yet unfortunately though, but I have had a fair bit of mucus come out (TMI sorry!). I just want it to start so it can be all over and done with sooner.

@tops-2 I have heard that the medicated route can be pretty painful I'm so sorry that you have to experience this. I know a lot of people find comfort in nice hot baths. I hope this physical part will all be over soon for you.

  • Sorry just realized I was late to the party this week and missed last - and then couldn't find a thread for this week so will add here, hope that's ok

@goldenkeys please can you change my dx to DOR and autoimmune?

@worldtravler0522 fx for the US on weds

@soehlerk great to hear that DH was feeling up to it despite his arm!

@bababatty hope the follow up went well today with the RE and you have options and a plan laid out

@msstephanielynn sorry to hear your surgery is delayed a month, that's super frustrating

@tops-2 so sorry for your loss and hope you can avoid GA

AFM after freaking out at the start of the week because I had pre AF symptoms and had 1 week to wait until my RE appointment to collect meds (which he wanted to do before CD1), my RE squeezed me in early Weds morning and now we have the protocol and all meds here at home. Of course this means AF has not appeared yet! So I'm in the strange situation of praying AF comes asap. Just a waiting game...

  • @tops-2 - I'm sorry. :(

@Worldtravler0522 - great news, I'm so pleased! Keeping FX for you!

@msstephanielynn - I'm benched too, waiting for availability for my surgery. If I pay more, I can use another doctor at another facility, but if I want to go with what I'm covered for, I'm waiting until NOVEMBER. It SUCKS. Anyway, sending you some love, because I know how you feel. The only upside for me is that it feels really really nice to not have any fertility drugs in my system. Like, my ovaries feel like they're back to their regular size, and it feels good.

@soehlerk - nice re: DH. Haha. Keeping FX for you.

Hope all is well with everyone, and that you are hanging in there!

  • Well that was fun while it lasted *TW* I started bleeding heavily last night and went in this morning to get checked out. The gestational sac and yolk sac are still there but there's blood in my uterus and my HCG fell to 1100 from 1437 so I'm 99% sure I'm out.  I just don't get how this keeps happening to us.

  • @Worldtravler0522 oh no!!!!! I'm so sorry. Did they offer any suggestions to try? Were you already using progesterone? Hope they will follow up again tomorrow or Monday even with it being a holiday weekend. And fx in case there's still a chance.

Have you already had a receptivity assay done? And you tested clear for autoimmune issues? Are your frosties PGS tested? And have you and DH had genetic testing?

You don't need to reply, but if there is something you didn't do then if I were you I would push damn hard now. With your history they should have more than enough to support any of the above.

  • @emmasemm the only thing we haven't done is have the embryos tested. I'm not a big fan of testing because multiple reasons but my biggest one is that it doesn't guarantee anything. A friend of mine has done 3 FET with "normal" embryos and still have losses. We might consider it if we do another retrieval and we can test from fresh but I'm still not 100% on board with the idea. We go back Friday to get a more final answer but I know what's coming.

  • @Worldtravler0522 again so sorry.

Do I understand right that you've only had one retrieval cycle? And from that you transferred one fresh, and then you had 8 frostiges of which you transferred 4 so far and have 4 left? In your siggy you say unexplained but do they think you have egg quality issues? My RE has said that if two separate transfers from the same retrieval don't yield success then he recommends doing another retrieval as sometimes they see "batch failures" even if they look ok.

Also do your clinic offer the new 24 hour camera monitoring of embies or do they use the old "take them out and look at them once a day" approach? With the video (or stills taken every five minutes made into a movie) they can really see if they do anything strange in between the once a day check and also don't have to take them out and handle them. Again what I was told is with good quality eggs and sperm it doesn't make much of a difference. But with egg quality issues this can be enough of a difference, and they frequently don't then choose the "best" embies to be the same on compared to if they only grade them once a day.

I did a lot of research on PGS testing while we were waiting (made somewhat easier by access to studies via my Uni student status for my EMBA and a year of studying genetics 20 years ago) and although everyone calls it the same, some labs do take very slightly different approaches. So again if you decide to do that route I would recommend doing your homework for those who use the latest more rigorous techniques.

Finally for your frosties, which freezing technique did they use? Again there is more than one, and with great eggs the difference is minor, but if quality issues suspected then see if you can find out and check.

I guess a second opinion would not be a bad idea before you make any big decisions.

Sorry if this is all too much today - hope DH is taking good care of you

  • @emmanemm  there is a possibility of an egg quality issue due to a genetic translocation.  Essentially I've been told by my RE and a genetic counselor that out of 12 embryos there were likely several that were of good quality but I guess the joke is on me.  I don't know the answers to any of your other questions with the exception of your question about my retrieval and yes you are correct, I've only had one.  I suppose in thinking about it after all of your questions I've done a pretty shitty job of vetting my clinic and handling my care.

  • @Worldtravler0522 no don't think of it like that! Apart from anything the science is moving on all the time, and it's not easy for the doctors let alone us to keep pace with it! And believe me if I hadn't been waiting 2 years I would never have had the chance to do so much research before getting started.

But you are already so many steps ahead. 9 gradeable embies from one retrieval is an amazing number. So what you know is that you can make lots of mature eggs, they fertilize, they're gradeable and they freeze and defrost too.

If you've got a genetic translocation, then typically they can offer you PGD which is much more reliable than PGS generally - i.e. You don't get told so often an embie has an issue when really it doesn't (which is the biggest problem they think with PGS - risk of discarding normal embies). Though I know the PGD can be super expensive as it is kind of personalized for your translocation unless it's a common one.

  • @Worldtravler0522 noo. I'm just so unbelievably sorry and sad for you. It was so nice thinking someone among us was having success. I'm sure you are mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted having to go through this again. You don't deserve this. we all know there's nothing good to say in these situations, nothing is going to make this better and you have every right to be angry, upset, and emotionally spent. I'm sure you and your doctors did everything you could to ensure the best and most ideal results. sending hugs your way. One day at a time, that's all you can do.
