DH's half sister visits once a year for a week in August but does NOT make it easy on the family. She gives everyone a short notice on the dates she plans to visit/sometimes changes plans last minute, and then stays with my FIL (her father) and is a pretty terrible house guest. She's not mean or anything, but she expects a lot and assumes everyone should drop everything to do whatever she wants to do for the week she's here -- like everyone being ready to go out to eat when she's hungry, or everyone cleared out of her way when she needs to shower and unwind after a long day of shopping (she comes from Canada and 80% of her visit to the US is shopping). More than that, she really missed the memo on thanking your hosts. My FIL and his wife clear their week, tidy up their condo, stock the fridge, etc. when she arrives, and she doesn't lift a finger the entire time, let alone offer something nice like picking up the dinner bill for a night. Instead she just sits back and watches them run around waiting on her hand and foot like she's staying at a hotel. OH and did I mention she visits alongside her husband and 2 teenage daughters??? And they're all the same.
Sorry for the novel, but these annual visits are annoying because they shouldn't be annoying at all, they should be a fun time where we get to see them, but instead it's such a circus. We were supposed to go over to my FIL's house next weekend for a big family cookout, but DH's sister decided to change her plans at the last minute so they're leaving a few days before the cookout instead. Now the rest of the family is scrambling together to figure out some kind of way we can meet up, otherwise we won't see them for another year. It really sucks and my FIL is pretty pissed, understandably.

WTF to this coworker who 'refuses to wear a seatbelt most of the time.' This came up because they were talking about technology and how we're always being spied on or whatever because of our phones/targeted ads/etc. (They also mentioned The Circle and how that's kinda close to reality.)
Am I the only one who doesn't understand what wearing your seatbelt has to do with being watched via technology? Not to mention it's so effing dangerous to you and potentially to other people if you end up flying out of your car in an accident. Geez.
@MJDsquared That sounds less like a "they're spying on me" and more like a "they can't tell me what to do!" situation. I've heard people give the "but you can get trapped in your car by the belt" excuse, but I'm pretty sure you're way more likely to get thrown without one than to get trapped by one.
ETA: Out of curiosity, who's doing the watching in your coworker's scenario? The government? Or some other type of agency? I'm just thinking... our government wishes they were that good. Remember when they couldn't unlock that person's iphone? I feel like those types of movies are very sensationalist.
WTF to my right ear. It's so stuffed up - I feel like I just got off an airplane! Uuuuuggggvhhhhhhh goddamn these freaking pregnancy symptoms that never end!!!!!!!!
@djd0404 I think they mostly meant the government. But also, seatbelt guy basically said something like, "Our gov is a bunch of cowards though so it's not like they can do anything." The dudes who work here are biiiig conspiracy theorists and during the election they were talking about how "they" decide who gets chosen as the candidate on either side and "they" decide who wins. No word on who this mysterious "they" is though.
