  • Well ladies, I received the unfortunate news today that it doesn't look like this cycle will be the one for us. My hcg is only 8.8 (should be 30+ minimum), so I'll have to have another blood draw Friday just to confirm. I didn't discuss when we can try again today, but my doctor is a 1-doc practice so only offers it every other month, making me assume Nov/Dec. (Hopefully there's no reason I have to wait longer...) Hopefully we can discuss that on Friday.

I'm disappointed, sad, and frustrated, but really focusing on the positive as much as I can. This was only my first time doing IVF, and I feel so fortunate that we have 2 frozen embryos that we can move forward with. We're certainly not giving up and are more commited than ever now to trying everything we can.

TTC since 2012 | Unexplained Infertility -- Sept 2017 found cyst seemingly confirming previously suspected endometriosis | IVF Sept/Oct 2017 Negative | FET scheduled early December

  • Oh no, I’m so sorry @latvaughanash :(. This really is such a roller coaster (and I haven’t even experienced a transfer yet).  You seem to have a great attitude, and I’m optimistic about your frosties.  >>>hugs<<<

  • @latvaughanash Sorry to hear it friend :( I hope your frozen embryos are your take-home babies.

    BusinessWifelatvaughanashHopeful_mom
  • @latvaughanash oh friend I'm sorry. Still a glimmer of hope but if not I hope it comes to zero very fast and you can move to FET. This whole process is so damn tough. And so unfair.

@rainbows2018 its important to do what's right for you. Hope the US went well today and you can get started - I have everything crossed for your FET!

@cxsimo08 will come back to you on PM. My heart is aching for you right now.

@loverin and @hopeful_mom I'm excited to hear about your USs!!!
    @fuzzydust how was yours?

@adirat any more idea on when your results will be in?

So the short version for me is I'm looking at next CD1 being Nov 1 or 2 and green light for round two with extra testing between now and then. Details in the spoiler for anyone interested - um and I mean details! (Copy from November IVF thread)

Today was my follow up. And I have to say bless my RE we were 1.5 hours with him going through everything!!!
    - First of all he did an US and there is no cyst, so that's good. Also I have one follie who looks like he's the "one" this month as it's CD7 and he's already 15mm. There are another two on the left around 5mm and one very small on the right. So an AFC of 4 which is really really good for me. Also my lining was already 9.5mm and tri-laminar. So he suggested HIO for the next 4 days ED until I fly to China as you never know!
    - The cramping I'm feeling he thinks is just the last effects from the progesterone. There was nothing to see on US but I've released my pelvic MRI to him (done by my RA) so he will check that to see if there's anything to see though we don't expect anything.
    - With my AFC of 1-4 and AMH of 0.65 he reconfirmed we should only expect 1-2 eggs each cycle. Whilst the insurance is paying for meds he said no harm to try again with meds but after that he's happy to take us without stims, just Ganirelix and trigger to not waste money and have less side effects if we need/want
    - We will start with same stims as last time (Pergoveris 225 - which is the FSH/LH combi) and potentially step down or step up. And if one doesn't work try the other in cycle 3. We don't add Menopur as it is the same as the Pergoveris. We discussed potentially using FSH only in a future cycle but he is concerned about lack of egg maturity then.
    - We discussed suppression and priming at length. He still thinks suppression will give no real benefits for me, risk not getting started well again after and will waste a1-3 months. With Estrogen priming with my low AFC he doesn't think it will help, but might add some Estrogen in after the ER with the progesterone this time so long as my levels are like last time as again at that point it might help lining etc and won't do any harm. For testosterone he said with my numbers he has never seen a positive outcome and again has seen negative ones so does not recommend it "pure". The DHEA he can't prescribe in country, however I could do self pay through his colleague in New York but they already discussed my case and neither of them thinks I'm a good candidate.
    - We talked HGH and this again is not possible domestically so he said we should think about it if we get to cycle 4 and take the additional prescription from his colleague and have it shipped in. If we use DHEA or HGH in an insurance cycle it would invalidate the coverage. But he said the research is so far only anecdotal (he even showed me on the screen the research he has reviewed again in the last weeks) doesn't suggest I would be a good candidate
    - As my follie seems to be selected early he's happy for me to start stims whenever I want CD2-4
    - We will start monitoring on day 3 of stims (so after only 2 nights of injections) in case we want to start the Ganirelix earlier
    - He confirmed my embryo from last cycle was beautiful. I even signed off that he could use a photo of it in a paper he is writing. He said it was ahead of the average development until the point we transferred which he sees as a good sign. Also why he didn't want to change much in the stim part of the cycle.
    - But to give any future for embies the best chance we will go with assisted hatching from now on. He had already got pre approval from the insurance for it.
    - Having previously said I need three failed cycles before I can have further testing (or three MCs or a loss/child with proven genetic issues) he had taken my case to the genetics approval board and  insurance company and has got approval to run full genetic screening for me as well as an RPL panel. So I gave 14 vials of blood today and signed all the paperwork! Results should be back in around 2 weeks so we can factor anything in before we start.
    - Based on my previous BW, what he saw in ER/ET, other history and conditions he is expecting to need to prescribe heparin but needs the results first as it's strictly controlled here - I asked about baby aspirin as a starting point and he said I should use it for this natural cycle until we get the results, but if results come back for any IVF cycles we hit it hard.
    - We talked potential intralipids and he will follow up with the national specialist Centre who is 1.5 hours from me to see if he can get me in (as it doesn't do any harm)
    - He has discussed with my RA and they are waiting for my BW from this Monday to come back but might double my RA meds through the next cycle to see if that helps, or add in some additional meds. This month no harm to go with the Benadryl as a temporary measure.
    - We talked acupuncture and he fully supports it. He said he can't explain why it has a beneficial effect always but again it does no harm and clearly shows a positive correlation to good outcomes so gave me some pointers and I'll be trying to get in at a good one tomorrow.
    - At the moment as we aren't freezing in any cycles due to low numbers then an ERA doesn't really help and if we do a mock cycle we are again delaying (and I'm really on a clock!) - but he said when we think it might be our last OE cycle he would suggest to do it before. But it's up to me, he would be happy to do it any time and then we would have to figure out a strategy to achieve it if it showed a problem with timing
    - Lastly I asked if he thought we were crazy still trying with OE and if he was just not saying but thinking we should go to DE. Here he said for him if I can yield mature eggs he is happy to keep trying - but it should not be about him, it should be about us. That there's the money - when is our limit and how many cycles can we afford. And the time/effort - we both have big jobs and especially for me each cycle means a lot of time out and limits on traveling. And of course the emotional part - he said some couples can really keep going for ten cycles without success whereas for others one or two cycles is the limit. He also reconfirmed that DE is not available in Germany, so we would have to get frozen eggs from another country (and go through some major legal hoops) or go overseas for DE treatment. But for now it's plan B.

Overall was a very intense discussion but I came away feeling really listened to, taken seriously and happy that my RE suggested half the things on my list himself without me asking. I feel like we are on the same path and I think that really helps in the tough times.

  • Dang @emmasemm that is comprehensive. I'm so glad you have a doctor who really listens to you and personalized your plan. How are you feeling about going au natural this cycle?

    Hopeful_mom
  • @adirat I have to say DH hangs his head in shame when I bring out my iPad with the color coded pages of questions hehehe but I think my RE is just as big a spreadsheet geek as me luckily - I mean we seriously sat and discussed specific study results...

DH however is super excited at being allowed to go au natrel as you put it! After 3 weeks abstinence (TWW and AF) I can't blame him and intend to take full advantage! I mean we could be the miracle ones ;-)

  • TO MY PEOPLES: i have missed you but my break has been a good cathartic one... hubby and I are committed and have decided that we would go into our followup with our RE with an open mind and open heart.

Today was it. The RE (and the 15 person team at Brigham ART) 100% unanimously agree that we should not consider egg donation.  We are prepping now for another cycle.  Looks like I will see @emmasemm and maybe a few others in Nov. They say I am an anomaly. The 43.7 year old that produces more quality eggs than anyone they have and the one that brings the statistics UP for us older ladies.  Could be smooth talking' (highly doubtable due to the fact it was 15 people who agreed on the recommendations for my protocol) but hearing that we are ahead of the curve with ovarian productivity, quality, sperm quality and overall health of our systems felt good to hear.  We were prepared to hear the DOR recommendation, and even the adoption option today as well. And decided - IVF Freeze All #4 is where we go next.

Protocol changes: now micro flare Lupron with my next period. Doing med inventories this afternoon of what I have left (anyone need cetrotide? ugh, I have 6 unopened from my last cycle because the pharmacy over charged and sent me too many anyway)...

I am SO overjoyed for those of you moving towards the family you so want. And I will keep popping in to check on you ;)

To those for nov ivf... see you soon.

The next 4 weeks are going to be CRAZY filled with physical work around the farm to prep for winter and I might not be on very much but know I am thinking of you all and will be back soon!

Love, hugs, positivity and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the fancy, fairy unicorn-dust dance moves to you guys :)

  • @cmiller73 oh so glad you popped back in to say hi! Hope the holiday did you lots of good and yay we are going to smash November all of us! Isn't it great when you feel like you've got that army in the clinic behind you? I'm also in a big clinic but we are quickly making ourselves famous (helps I'm the only native English speaker they have at the moment and I always need multiple appointment slots hehehe)
It almost feels like being a teenager, like it's "naughty" to have sex!
And was obviously a good day to have the follow up today! We went today too!

@hopeful_mom DH hates the crinone with a passion for putting lock down in place. When I asked about progesterone options today, he even asked the RE if we could HIO safely in the TWW if I went for PIO... and got a great side-eye from the doc hehe. So now he feels it's even more naughty. If only naughty sex were all it took to get KU lol!

And we have @artemis618 's magic potion protocol ready to pull off the shelf for our number 4 in case we don't go mini. I have that added issue of ridiculously low AFC. Even lower than my BW would suggest it should be... got to be a way to drag those suckers out of hiding...

    LOL  :D
When my doctor switched me from Crinone to PIO, both me and hubby had the same thought right away - sexy times! :D

I'm more of a lurker here lately. Today I'm 6weeks even, and I can't wait for my next u/s on Oct 25. I just need to see that heartbeat to put my mind at ease a little bit. My last u/s showed the gestational sack and a yolk, all located where it should be, but it was too early to see anything else.

AFM: The nausea is certainly picking up dear lord!!

Today was off to a bumpy start as OH had an emergency to tend too so that meant I was going solo.  It is what it is.  Pnut looked great and measured 6wks 4days.   Technically a day behind which I'm not worried about! Heart beat was great at 134!!

Good day very happy!!! Now onto the next! US I go back Oct 27th :)

@loverin when do you go back? How are you feeling?

  • Miss you guys- hope everyone is doing well! I was doing some relentless googling last and came across an Ava bracelet thread that had me cracking up. @adirat and @BusinessWife you both made amazing appearances and it made me miss talking to you every day!

I still can't bring myself to face my doctor, acupuncturist, or really anything related to this topic, but my life update is that I am taking It Starts with an Egg to heart and have now thrown out all of my kitchen plastic.  We did a HomeGoods trip this weekend to replace with all glass/stainless/wood. The only thing I can't seem to toss is my sodastream plastic bottle because there are no alternatives, but everything else is w/ Goodwill.  Also did a Amazon/Target shopping spree on hair/skin/makeup/cleaning products and was happy to find many great (reasonable) brands that didn't have all the bad stuff in there.  Went with a lot of Mayer cleaning products, Alba hair/skin care, Jason deodorant (KILL ME- I already smell lol), and Pixi makeup from Target.  Have you guys ever done anything like this? Any suggestions?

@hopefulmom so happy for you lady! :) Keep that trashcan nearby!

  • Haha @cxsimo08 glad it gave you a laugh! We never got rid of our sodastream either...on their website it says it's bpa free and I just couldn't say goodbye to seltzer on demand...

I hate the Jason deodorant! It does nothing! I still use Dove deodorant because I couldn't find anything I liked/where I didn't smell at work. But I swapped out most of my other stuff. I love the Alba skincare stuff you mentioned. For shampoo I switched to Shea Moisture.

  • @cxsimo08 wow I am IMPRESSED that's hard core I love it!!! I think it's great and give you mad props! I wish I would've known to do all those things sooner to help make a difference but I had to go go go cycle...poor excuse but true.

what did you find for good moisturizers??  I will say I do use quite a few products to help with the wrinkles that I've stopped with transfer as I know it's probably not great.  Any suggestions are appreciated!! @adirat I'm all ears??  and shouldn't ur pgs be coming in soon?? I've got everything crossed for u!!

Good for you @cxsimo08!  I read _It Starts With The Egg_ after my *TW* loss last year kind of before it occurred to me that I would go straight to IVF.  Somewhat stupidly, I didn’t really implement all that much until my first cycle ended with no blasts. We got rid of almost all of our plastic Tupperware and replaced it with glass containers for microwaving, and replaced our nonstick cookware with stainless when we moved last year. I’ve been using the Crystal deodorant (the liquid- I’m far too clumsy and would drop and crack the actual salt “crystal”) for most of this year.  It doesn’t work as well as commercial stuff, and if I know I’ll really be sweating around people I’ll use regular deodorant.  The hardest thing for me to avoid seems to be those stupid thermal paper receipts (BPA) - they’re everywhere!

@Hopeful_mom I like MyChelle’s pumpkin renew cream pretty well:  https://www.vitacost.com/mychelle-dermaceuticals-pumpkin-renew-cream  But historically (till I was about to turn 40 it seems!) my skin’s been on the oilier side. I also use a MyChelle eye cream and a facial cleanser and exfoliator. I like browsing Vitacost because you can filter products by phthalate-free, paraben-free, etc.

ETA:  Is it beta hydroxy acid that you’re supposed to avoid when KU?  I remember not using my Paula’s Choice BHA exfoliant (and wanting to) last time, but my OB didn’t really say anything about it...

Also, I like EO shampoo, conditioner, and body wash because the scents are more subtle than the Alba products I’ve tried (and because DH is from Mill Valley/Marin County we like the idea of supporting local), but they are a lot more expensive.

  • @cxsimo08 I'm so impressed by you ladies! You made me start looking at the stuff around my house I should have already paid attention to!

Miss you ladies, have you gotten any results back on your embies?!

Sorry to have been MIA, I had family in town for a week and good Lord they took a lot of energy lol AFM:

@hopeful_mom doing ok, thank you for asking! Fatigue and headache are most of what I'm dealing with consistently, although I'm really nauseous today and coming up on 6 weeks so I guess we'll see if that will start.

6 week ultrasound on Monday! I'm so excited and so scared all at the same time. It doesn't feel real and I'm so afraid I'll go in and they'll tell me  *TW* that it's ectopic or something *TW*. Infertility PTSD is messing with my brain, I keep expecting the worst to happen because that's been our experience so far.

@Hopeful_mom Are you doing the B6 and unisom thing?  I didn’t get sick last time (although I wonder if I would have had things been going better - but you’d think I would have noticed something before almost 12 weeks...), but one of my friends swore by it.

  • I had hyperemesis gravidarum with my pregnancy (the really extreme version where you get dehydrated) and my RE put me on unisom. It really helped me. I think unisom is the only reason I didn't get totally dehydrated and hospitalized. I took it at night before bed and I typically was able to eat lunch every day. I was most sick in the morning and at night, typically vomiting 6-7 times per day. Unisom is very safe for you and the fetus. If you need it, don't be afraid to take it! You're better able to take care of your baby if you're healthy too :) @Hopeful_mom @loverin ;

I also liked ginger hard candies and lemon things to settle nausea.

U poor thing throwing up so much!! So far no actual vomiting even though that's what I feel like pretty much all day.  I remember with the twins it was bad and all everyone told me is im suffering for 2, and it's not so much easier for one! My RE prescribed discelgis which I believe is a combo of the Unicom and b6, but I'm terrified to take it.  Not knowing what caused my MC makes me nervous taking anything.

I need to find some some ginger candies, I'm not a fan of ginger but willing to try it.

@loverin have a great US tomorrow!!

@emmasemm Your trip sounds like a perfect distraction, glad it's been good to get away!

My FET will be early December, his best guess was the 7th or 8th based on how regular my cycles are, but we will see. :) My doctor and I are all for transferring 2 again. My initial conversation with my husband he disagreed and thinks we should spread our chances over two transfers, but I didn't want to debate it yet since I needed a break (and it's still a ways out). We will see! Technically each egg has the same chance whether it's in there with another or not, so I would rather just pay for the one transfer, but I'm open to either. Can't wait till December!

  • Hello, everybody! I am glad to hear everybody is doing well! I missed this group so much! But firs depression kicked my butt but then work went crazy busy. Being busy helped with depression so I am ready to go again.
@loverin Congrats on seeing the little one! I am so excited for you!

@emmasemm China sounds like fun! And I have everything crossed you next IVF cycle is a success. Are you changing your protocol at all?
@rainbows2018 hope your transfer goes well today! Being PUPO is so exciting!
