TTC After a Loss

AF after D&C

I had a D&C on 8/3 at 9wks, it was our first pregnancy. I had some mild bleeding that day but none since. I'm just curious how long it took for others for AF to return after D&C??

Re: AF after D&C

  • I haven't had an AF yet. I had a D&C on 7/14. I just wanted to tell you to not be surprised if the bleeding come back in a couple of days. I only had minor spotting for a day after the D&C then I started bleeding again about 3-4 days later then I spotted off and on for 2+ weeks with intermittent cramping.
Sorry for you loss. It really sucks to be in this situation.
  • It DOES suck! Sorry for your loss too! And thank you for the input!

  • I bled a week after D&C.  Ovulated 2 weeks later.  AF 2 weeks after that.
  • I just lost my baby at 8 wks 8/5. I'm so sorry
  • So sorry for your loss. AF came 2 wks after my D&C. I only spotted a little for 2 days after the surgery.
  • @justsuzie Did you do OPK after D&C? I'm trying to decide if I should bother trying to use them or not. My bleeding stopped I'm 9d PD&C and am wondering if I'll O this month, but have heard that the OPK don't necessarily work the first month. Just wondering how everyone is certain they O'd before their first AF.
  • I'm so sad try for your loss... I had a D&e and did OPKs but they were + for most of the month I'm assuming bc of hormones. I got my period five weeks after
DS born 04/22/15, Pregnant again 03/01/17 however loss due to PPROM at 20+6 weeks now TTC rainbow
  • @ELeighMay I tried to use the OPKS but it was tricky and I ended up missing O because I thought they were still dark because of the HCG.  I uspe cheap wondfo hpts to track to 0.  Even when my HCG was at 16 the wondfo picked it up. It's depressing to see a positive but I need to know everything because I am a control freak.  GL.  Wait to get to 0 is tough and stressful.
  • justsuzie I am a control freak too, but I think I'll have to wait until next month to try to use OPK's. I have some hpts that I'm using to track to 0 (best you can anyway), but haven't done one for a few days. I'm trying very hard to have some patience and resist the temptation to do one every day. Patience is not my strong suit. The waiting in this entire process regardless of the stage is the worst. I'm very lucky and have a great OB, if I ask her for an HCG she'd gladly run it. I was thinking about asking at the two week mark just to see where I'm at.
  • @ELeighMay Hang in there and stay strong. It's hard to get the temping and OPKs right before the first AF.  It's hard not to think about where you are in the cycle, I totally get it! Good thing you have a great OB, and hey, if they'll do a qunat hcg, go for it.  I got tracked every week till I hit 0 and it was good and bad.  Some weeks I would drop a lot and others I would barely drop, so it's a double edged sword! It was nice however knowing when to officially start using opks again.  Hoping to officially see you in WTO soon.
  • I got some sort of bleeding after I lost my daughter at 11 weeks & had a D&C June 21st. The further along you were, then (generally) the longer it takes for your HCG to return to normal and allow you to shed your lining. I know I ovulated about 2 weeks after the D&C because of the consistency of my CM, and I had a sort of off and on spotting for 10 days about a month and a half after the D&C... mostly old blood, no cramps, no clots as per my usual period. I was also registering a very faint positive on my HPT the day after my D&C and have continued to do so until the last day of that 10-day weird period. Your body is in a state of confusion after the loss of  pregnancy, and it takes time to equalize and return to its pre-baby functions. Give it your patience and your love, it has been through a lot. I still to this day feel pregnant and have all of the symptoms. Best of luck to you and I am so sorry for all y'all's losses.
  • Is anyone taking some sort of medication to get their period back? Seeing the doc next week as she's busy but it will have been 7 weeks post d&c by then. I wonder how we can tell our bodies to recognize and move on...back to normal please...
