We live in the US but love the name Murron from Braveheart. The translation isn't the best. They pronounce it in Scotland with more of an A sound where the U is. Trying to spell it where people have as little trouble as possible. We love Maryn but because you can see the name "Mary" in it people have already messed this up. lol Any input is greatly appreciated!!

I'm not sure how it is pronounced in the movie. I voted for Maren because it is the most recognizable to me and its a pretty, feminine, classy name. I'd pronounce it like Karen.

  • Thank you all for your input! Maren was the winner by a landslide. Now I have the fabulous task of convincing DH that we should spell it this way.
  • I personally know a Marin. But I voted for Maren. I like both!

  • I liked Maryn the best.  It was also the easiest for me to pronounce...but maybe that's because I know someone named Taryn, lol.

  • I have met Karyn's before and have had no problem with the name and I like the look of the spelling of Maryn but my hang up is seeing the name "Mary" within the spelling. People have literally said Mary-n ( Marian). I don't know if that would be a common occurrence. And with a last name that people butcher all the time I just don't want to deal with correcting people. I really wish I could spell it the traditional Scottish way but it just doesn't translate the same.
  • I have a Maren and I think that's the pronunciation you're going for (like Karen with an M). People haven't had issues with pronouncing it, but if they just glance really quickly it occasionally will get mispronounced as Marian.
