I've never owned/bought a Mac or Apple product. I don't like them at all. I've used other people's Apple phones and computers before and I just don't get why people like them. They're so frustrating to use, especially when they malfunction! And I'd never want to be one of those people standing around in the Apple store at the mall, just not me *shrugs*
Haha...I just bought a new MacBook this week, @gilsam1. I used to be a PC person until I was given a MacBook as my teacher computer at work. Now I will never go back!
@gilsam1 Haha! I have a friend who is the same way. I'm MAC all the way but use a PC at work. I mean the iphone (imessage/facetime) is the best thing ever and I've NEVER had a virus on any MAC product... but they are pricey. I also love my Apple Watch. OMG I've sold my soul to them!
My UO, to keep with my anti POTUS trend, is that if you think transgender people shouldn't serve in the military based exclusively on the fact that they are transgender than you are no better than someone who thinks women shouldn't be CEOs, gays shouldn't be* parents, and blacks and whites shouldn't eat at the same restaurants.
OMG I hate Trump so much, folks. I refuse to put his name under "Current World Leaders" in LO's baby book.
@gilsam1 I am probably one of the only ones that is going to agree with you!.
I'm so glad I have you ladies to vent too. @EmilyLove25 my family LOVES Trump. It's hard to even have a convo with them about it b/c I get so ganged up against. But yes to it all. And for the love of God can he get the heck of twitter?!?! I saw that he blocked Chrissy Teigen because she tweeted that no one likes him, made me laugh.
@EmilyLove25 I also won't put his name down in DD's baby book. No way.
My UO is that I'm somewhat of a conservative. I dont always vote that way, but I tend to lean more to the right. HOWEVER, I didn't vote for that orange clown. I agree that he needs to get off Twitter; it's ridiculous.
@burnsmommy27 I LOVED the Chrissy Teigen tweet... so so funny!!
I have also sold my soul to apple... I tried androids and ended up going back to IPhone... I've had a MacBook for as long as I can remember.. my Dad is a graphic designer so he's had apple products since the 80s... I had a HORRIBLE customer service experience with them back in 2008 and went out on a limb and email Steve Jobs... he forwarded my email to the District Manager and he personally assisted me in getting my problem fixed. I will never buy another brand now.
@EmilyLove25 and @gusgus14 did you see the tweet going viral that says something along the lines of "funny...transgender people aren't good enough to sacrifice their lives with our military, yet we've been told they are so fierce that I should be afraid to share a bathroom with them"?
I hate dogs. I'm sorry. Actually. I probably just hate our dogs, If DH would take the time to train them I probably wouldn't. We are on our 3rd dog and he doesn't take the time to train them and they destroy everything. And just now he jumped on my side table and knocked over my apple juice. Dog... do not touch my apple juice. I stole that fair and square from my almost 2 year old not for you to knock it over.
Right there with you, @schaze. I'm pretty socially liberal, but lean more towards the conservative side when it comes to things regarding safety and finance. However, Trump's supposed brand of conservatism is not that at ALL. It's just straight up dangerous and gives conservatives a bad name. DH is pretty much conservative is all areas, and even he LOATHES Trump. We disagree on a lot of things political (i.e. Gun control...DH is a cop), but that's one thing we can agree on. Trump is an idiot. Sorry, Trump lovers. I'm seriously ashamed to call him our president.
UO for the Trump theme: I am a fiscal republican, but socially lean towards liberal views. I thought right up until the month of the election that it was a joke. No way, we had to choice between an oompa loompa and a snake. I hate Trump.
My real UO, I might get some fire for this: I hate when people tell me or other people what's going on in their body. I don't know why but when people say, "No, you are just bloated" (I am) or "There is no way you could feel movement this early" (I haven't), it strikes a nerve. I know generally my baby is so tiny right now that my bump is mostly bloat, but I also know that my uterus has done this before and may be stretching more easily or faster to allow me to appear pregnant despite the fact that my baby is the size of a small fruit. I haven't felt movement yet, but I feel bad when people are excited about feeling movement and then shut down with "it's just gas". Sure, could be and maybe the baby isn't big enough to make waves, but maybe, just maybe their body frame is different or their child is growing a different rate (within reason) and they felt a flutter much sooner than most people do?
I voted for Trump. I really like Pence and I can not stand Hilary. Go ahead and hate. I don't agree with everything Trump is doing but I wouldnt change my vote to Hillary. Lesser of 2 evils in my eyes.
@livingoffpbjs - genuinely curious what it is you like about Pence. Also not really sure how Trump is the lesser evil but I'm sure we won't change each other's minds on that point so it is what it is.
...shit, I think Pence is the genuinely concerning option for if they ever get up the fuckin' nerve to impeach our current POS. (I'm not optimistic in that front. Republicans are too deep in their own shit to admit a mistake now.)
My husband is also conservative, and officially changed his voter registration to independent after years of watching Republicans get further and further up their own asses on social issues. I suspect socially liberal but conservative on other issues isn't uncommon. I fall pretty left-of-middle on most issues.
Actual UO, in while everyone else is probably sleeping: I hate (mega-loathe, even) this trend of, "I'm disorganized/imperfect" article trend in parenting blogs. Not because I think that's bad -- I'm VERY disorganized and imperfect. It's because they so often take an implicit (or often overt) message that parents who have it together are someone bad, judgmental, or obviously mean girls.
Like, no. Your whole article premise pretends to be "hey, live and let live and accept your truth" and it's immediately undermined by the tone. Parents who have it together are living their own truth too, and their truth includes organic baby food. Shut up and look at your own plate.
@supercoolstephy I also hate my dogs. I have THREE. Two of them eat their own feces, one of them is on antipsychotics and one of them barks so much it makes me wish that voicebox removal was still legal. Horrible creatures.
I wont weigh in on the Trump convo since I'm Canadian. All I can say is: Thank GOD I'm Canadian!
@aisy-daisy Your president is just everything. I'd pay a lot to have him as ours here in the US.
I have to say even though I can't imagine anyone liking Pence (conversion therapy and total misogynist), and I can't imagine anyone not liking dogs (loyal, loving, and creatures who need our help since we domesticated them), I am so proud of us for having a real UO day! Y'all our hormones etc. are allowing us to share our real opinions! YAY! Also maybe I'll save this UO for next week, but I love Hillary, ALMOST as much as I Obama lol.
ditto @EmilyLove25. I work at a fairly conservative christian company and sometimes that opinion is quite an UO. I cried during watching her speech the day after, it was on in the cafeteria and I just couldn't contain myself and blubberingly cried like a baby.
I've been impressed by her speaking and writing for years. I think the Democratic Party could have made some different choices on her campaign and certainly she isn't perfect (but why don't we hold male politicians to the same standards as females, I still don't understand), but I love the woman and almost all of her platforms. I also don't care if it's unpopular. I have lots of thoughts about it but don't want to bore anyone, so I will stop. I wish I had known how great Tim Kaine was during the election. Feel like that could have been shared more now that I've seen his leadership.
@EmilyLove25 Our old daycare lady taught Thing 1 to say "ewww" in response to seeing a pic of Trump or hearing his name... and I'm totally ok with it. He did it the other day when he saw a magazine cover at the store.
**December lurker** @EmilyLove25 It's very sad to say that I totally agree with you (and everyone who agreed after you) but I feel like it's such an unpopular opinion on both sides that I'm totally scared to publicize it. So THANK YOU ALL because reading that was refreshing.
@MJDsquared Love! The one thing Hillary fans like us can be certain of is that, over time, the current POTUS will make everyone know they/we/the country/the world/the planet would be better off had she won!
@bainidhedub@EmilyLove25 Whenever Trump is brought up, DD says "I don't like Donald Trump. He's mean." Which I think is hilarious because I did NOT teach her that. Although this past week she has started adding "Donald Trump does not like girls. He only likes boys." NO IDEA where that came from, but I responded with "Well, you're actually kind of right."
Sorry ladies I dislike Hilary as well!! There was a bill board outside of Phoenix for most of the campaign that read "Hilary for Jail 2017". Have to say I loved that bill board.
Edited to add: I feel like we had two shitty choices in this election
I know I'm going to get blundered for this, but here goes. I don't believe serving in the military is a right, but I do believe standard of intake should be logical. Letting a transgender in who has not gone through transition, knowing that they will be going through transition while in service, is not logical in anyway. Neither is admitting a woman who is pregnant, or someone with cancer, or with depression, or with a heart condition, or anyone who you know is going to need special allowances during service. The military is not a company, its defense. They have to go by a different set of standards than for profit companies do.
Im all for transgenders serving... either before or after transition. The military becomes your life and it should be put first. I wanted to join the Air Force, but I wanted to have a child and I was struggling to do so. By joining I could have IF treatments covered, but going in knowing I was actively trying to conceive did not seem right to me. So I held off. Im also of the opinion that the whole Physical standards that men have to do more than women is blatantly sexist. There should be ONE standard for both. If you can't met it, tough luck. Since I'm on a roll, I also believe that women in line to be deployed and on deployment should be on mandatory birth control.
@madcouplewithabox Even though I disagree with virtually everything you said there (aside from the physical standards etc), I applaud you for sharing UOs with substance! I'm sure you read some of the stats that came out about what medical expenses active service members incur. The amount for Viagra and the like was significantly higher than any spent on transgender concerns.
@EmilyLove25 one other thing to consider that most people don't think about is that sexual reassignment surgery is not covered by military health care. So any of that, they pay for out of pocket. However, as a result of the surgery it makes them undeployable, which in the business of defense can put a strain on resources. They also become undeployable because they have to have specialist follow ups. The military can't afford to send one specialist Dr. that may be in charge of hundreds in a huge radius to BFE to see to one person. As a member of the military it is understood that you will be deployed at some point, usually multiple times. When you take yourself out of that pool of deployable people it puts a strain on the military. Yes, there are plenty of desk jobs that need attending to, but thats not why a lot of people join the military, they want to do good, not ride a desk.
@madcouplewithabox I admire that you chose to put off joining the Air Force because you didn't feel it was fair to the military. You're very self aware! I totally agree with the mandatory birth control if you are already on the books to deploy.
Maybe I'm nitpicky, I hate seeing "transgender" used as a noun. It's an adjective. You can be a transgender person, a transgender man or woman, or a transgender soldier, but you can't just be a transgender. It feels dehumanizing to me.
@auntieraindrop Agree 100%. I feel the same with things like "schizophrenics" versus an individual with schizophrenia.
To the point above made by @Cricket99, the majority of transgender individuals do not get sex reassignment surgery because it's FAR from a perfect science. The majority are looking for hormones. I've done MANY pre-authorization psych evals, as well as post-hormone mental status evals.
@auntieraindrop Agreed; as I understand it, "a transgender" and "transgenders" feels, to many, very dehumanized. I try to default to "trans people." Seems to work, but languages is ever-evolving.
I think Hillary would have been a competent president, and that whether I like her or not is irrelevant.
I also think that physical standards are important. But I think anyone willing to serve their country ought to have the opportunity, and am squicked at the idea of any job mandating birth control use, even (especially?) the government. My mother served 21 years in the Air Force and gave birth to two of her three children in that time. She didn't take any more time off than a woman of childbearing age at any other job, and she still served her country. She also sacrificed time with us when sent else where on TDY -- many things a lot of families take for granted, my mother gave up to serve her country. And she, like a lot of people, joined up not because of patriotism -- but because it was a way out of poverty when she had no real prospects to get off of welfare when I was six months old. My dad was too sick to join. I've always been proud of my mother's service, even while being critical of the military complex.
I never had thought of the verbiage @auntieraindrop . Thank you for pointing that out. I will do my best to be more cognizant of how I word things of that sort in the future.
@EmilyLove25 I also wanted to say that I'm so happy to have someone who is so adamant to get discussion going. Many times on boards things are just automatically shut down because the topic is sensitive. It's great to have someone actively trying encourage opinions to be expressed and discussed.
