Future photos

Having just gone through data loss on my computer, I'm reminded of how "vulnerable" precious memories in the form of photos can be... how will all of you store and protect photos of your little ones? I'm not a big social media person so nothing will be going on Facebook but I want to make sure I store photos in a safe place online... any recommendations?

Re: Future photos

  • I use google photos and love it. It's so easy to use and I can share photos with DH.

    Sorry for your data loss.

  • Loading the player...
  • Dropbox. Backs up photos from all your devices and you can access them from any device with an internet connection
  • Both sound great!

@cmar1006 Thank you... fortunately I could retrieve most of my photos from an external hard drive, but it was a shock to lose pretty much everything out of the blue! I guess a 2012 MacBook Air is "old" now...
  • If you already have Amazon prime, they have a prime photo app (included in prime membership) that stores and automatically backs up your photos every time you're connected to wireless. You can install on multiple devices.
  • Thanks @Rhubarb7216! We actually do have prime. But I wouldn't want all the photos to be on my phone all the time since I have limited space on my phone and photos take up a lot of space. I suppose there's a way to handle this in settings. Thanks!
  • @margareth-2 I think once the photos have been uploaded to the prime cloud, you can delete them from your phone and they'll still stay in the cloud. I just started using the app a week or two ago, so I haven't explored that yet.
  • I love Google photos I can share an album with family and friends which we plan on doing for the baby so we don't post a lot of pics of her on social media and family and friends can post to the album too. Great way to back up photos and you can create a photo book easily from there as well!
  • I have Google Photos for my phone but also upload the photos to my computer and file them with photos from my actual camera. Then those get saved on my computer and an external hard drive.

  • I also use Google Photos or the ICloud for DH's phone.

I love Shutterfly and it automatically uploads new photos!
  • I also have them automatically backed up to Google photos, but also every time I get a new phone, I burn DVD(s) of all the photos and videos from the previous phone and put it in our safe.

    This is what I do
  • We use office 360's photo storage, because you run out of space on google photos and amazon really quickly. I believe it uses dropbox to upload to the database.
