  • What number are you trying for? 2

    Cycle/Month? 2/1

    WTO/TWW? WTO- CD 2

Ages of other children- DS is 3

Any thoughts about this cycle? Well, it's early. I'm going to keep charting and maybe go to everyday rather than EOD once I hit my fertile window. I I got pregnant this month, it would be perfect timing for work and my maternity leave.

Any questions? No questions today. I'm excited to see one of the moms from my BMB with DS today. We are on vacation in her city and we get together every summer I come up here. It's always a nice treat to get together and have our boys play.

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change? I would make student loans go away and bigger tax breaks for daycare or make it free.

    Cycle/Month? 1/1

    WTO/TWW? TWW

Ages of other child(ren)? DS is 20 months

Any thoughts about this cycle? trying not to be too hopeful. I didn't realize how much I would want to get KU not just for me, but for DS. He is such a sweet little boy (for now!) and would be such a wonderful big brother.

    Any questions? none today

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change? definitely the maternity leave, I look 10 and a half weeks unpaid with DS, DH took 1 week unpaid. With #2 I am hoping he can take 2 weeks. I would love to go part time instead of full time. I would also love tax breaks for daycare to make it free! Or at least cheaper than college tuition wahh.

@fishsticks-n-custard I've never had a crayon melt in my car yet!! Hopefully if it gets dry enough you can peel it off? Or maybe try shout, I use shout for everything

Cycle/Month? 6/6 using OPKs, it has been over a year overall

WTO/TWW? Positive OPKs the past 2 days

Ages of other child(ren)? DD is 3

Any thoughts about this cycle? Praying this is our cycle! My friend just has a baby and it kills me seeing him & having everyone swoon over him all the time. DD loves the new baby and I know she will be a great big sister some day.

    Any questions? Nope

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change? I have to think on that one

Ages of other child(ren)? 2 in 2 weeks!

Any thoughts about this cycle? If this isn't our month, OB wants to refer us to infertility specialist... never thought that would happen...

i agree with many of you, parental leave in this country is a JOKE.

And @holly321 100% agree for funding for special needs. The services are hard to get bc there are not enough to go around, and even if you qualify the services, they have holes left and right ... many of the issues could be solved with more funding--bc of high turn over, an inability to keep good people in this industry due to being over worked and under paid etc.... my family has struggled with this for 30 years with my sister. Thankfully she lives in a decent state for services but so many suck!!!

    SO--- all of that^^^

And so many others... but I'm not sure id make friends with my opinions...

  • @50Wife we did her party yesterday--she wanted a Hello Kitty party! My mom made these really cool Hello Kitty cake pops and we surprised DD with a guinea pig for a gift. She's really into animals. Fx for your IUI this month!!

@TravelingCouple good luck with the move!!!

@fishsticks-n-custard I hope you find out you're ovulating and don't have to wean. I BF DD until she was 2 and I weaned because I was worried it was affecting my fertility. I honestly think she would still be BFing if I'd let her!

  • @shortstack930 aww hbd to your DD! Her party sounds great. I remember wanting a guinea pig so bad when I was little, so sweet!

@fishsticks-n-custard yeah our timetables are really similar! FX for you as well :) And it sounds like your DD is maybe starting  to wean a bit removing that feeding in the afternoon. My DS was essentially birthed weaned. We tried and tried to BF but could not figure it out. We just ended up crying a lot about it together so I had to exclusively pump from day 1. It had its perks of DH being able to feed DS and knowing exactly how much he was eating but it was sooo much work. I only lasted 6 months.
  • @shortstack930 Hamby birthday to your daughter!
  • @fishsticks-n-custard I feel like I've heard something with an iron and parchment paper? I might be making that up.

Cycle/Month? 0/0 (still TTA for another month)

    WTO/TWW? WTO I assume

Ages of other child(ren)? DS is almost 15 months

Any thoughts about this cycle? I would love to have a cycle!

Any questions? I'm just glad to see there are other moms TTC while breastfeeding. I'm open to any tips and suggestions in that regard.

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change? I'm on board with the longer parental leave. I was fortunate to have quite a while to stay home because I was teaching so I had maternity leave + summer break. I don't know how people do less.

Any thoughts about this cycle? I just don't feel good about it. My LP has finally lengthened from 10 days to 12, I'm just waiting to see if it's consistent. My periods are really light now. I'm starting to wonder if I have a hormonal imbalance that is making it hard for me to conceive.

Any questions? Not at the moment.

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change?

I would make more children friendly places offer classes on the weekends. So many toddler and mom activities happen during the work week, and on the weekends, it's almost impossible to get spots

Any thoughts about this cycle? my chart looked wonky this cycle so i'm just waiting it out to see what happens.  I competed in bodybuilding over the last year a couple times and lost my cycle for a period of this year, so i've only had it back for a couple months and am not 100% sure when O is!

Any questions? nothing yet, its been a long time since i've been on the bump and am looking forward to being pregnant again!

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change? have to agree with @fishsticks-n-custard

Ages of other child(ren)? My son is 16 months old

Any thoughts about this cycle? In the interest of transparency (and since there's already a TW on this post) I will be honest and say that I got pregnant on the first cycle with my son. I'm wondering if it's going to be as quick this time around and if not, how I will respond. In the meantime, since I had GDM with my son there's up to an 80% chance I'll have it again, so I'm eating all the carbs now because as soon as I get a BFP I'm going back on the GDM diet.

Any questions? Not at this time.

GTKY: If you could be dictator for a week, what would you change? I'm going to play it safe and agree with everyone that there should be better parental leave policies in place. I had to do a short term disability buy up at work to get paid 100% for 6 weeks. I worked from home for an additional two weeks and our son started daycare at two months old. DH had to save up vacation time and even then he only had 4 weeks and ended up having to work some of that time anyway.

  • @MLS6212 my son was concieved on my first cycle trying, too. I had already been charting, though, so it was easy to hit the fertile window. I really don't expect it to happen again since I haven't had a period and we hardly ever have sex! I hope TTC will encourage us to do it more...

  • @lulu2004 I charted with my first pregnancy too. This time it's not going so well because between my son (who is still not STTN) and our cats (who are jerks who think they need to be fed every time I'm up and will destroy things until I feed them) it's rare for me to get the three hours needed for an accurate temperature.

In seven days I've taken six temperatures and only one of those (today's at 97.1) hasn't been discarded by FF.

Fingers crossed you can get some good opportunities to HIO and get your BFP soon!

  • @MLS6212 I got pregnant with DD on my second cycle, yet here I am on cycle 20 trying for #2. I hope you have an easy time of it again but I would just say don't stress too much if it doesn't. When I didn't get KU right away, I started freaking out after three months and have basically been stressed out since then. Good luck!

  • @TravelingCouple yay!  Glad the IUI went well!
  • @fishsticks-n-custard I completely agree with you about improving maternity/paternity leave. 2 days for YH? I hope that you had help during that time. Having a newborn is hard. The first few weeks are crucial for family bonding and for the mother to feel supported both physically and emotionally. It's sad that we don't have something better in place in this country. Also, yay for temping! It's great to be able to confirm O. I hope that your weaning journey is an easy one, if you end up deciding to go that route.

@shortstack930 I've been reading your updates on IF. GL with the IUI on Thursday! FX for you. <3 And your DD's party sounds like it was the sweetest! How fun that you got her a guinea pig!

@TravelingCouple I'm so glad that your IUI went well. I'm sorry that this cycle has been so rough on you mentally, with the meds and everything. I just want to give you a big hug! I really hope that this cycle is the one for you. I also hope that, no matter what, you will be able to enjoy the excitement of moving into the new house and making it your own.

@cards10 I completely agree with you on equality of life planning. I also want to say that you are a champ for EPing for as long as you did. I am a SAHM and briefly stuck a toe into EPing due to some issues that I was having with EBF related to bad ppd and ppa. Thankfully, I got medicated and we were able to work through our issues with EBF, but I have so much respect for EP moms. It takes a ton of work and commitment! You go momma.

@holly321 I'm so sorry for the BFN and that you are feeling down. Big hugs.

@50Wife I'm so excited for your IUI! I'll be looking forward to your updates! FX! <3 And I totally like your thinking about stricter laws making people afraid of hurting people or breaking the law.

@mechekitty Yay for a longer LP! Are you doing anything to lengthen it? I've been taking B6 *TW* since my loss *TW* but I'm still holding strong at 10 days (which is certainly better than when it was 8).

I totally agree with everyone about maternity/paternity leave. It's at a sad state in this country.

  • @kbamomma33 thanks :) and I'm sorry you struggled with ppd and ppa. I've known a couple friends who went through this too and it's so difficult. I'm glad you got the help you needed and were able to work through the BF issues. Everyone has different problems with varying solutions, do what works best for you and it's always going to be the right answer <3
  • @cards10 I can't believe I missed this when I was responding to people yesterday. I'm in awe that you were able to EP for an entire six months! That's seriously impressive!

I also had issues with breastfeeding and I'm really nervous about trying again. My son was always either too tired or too upset to latch properly. I also had a hard recovery from childbirth and between not eating or drinking very much lost 22 pounds in four days (after only having gained 8 pounds during the pregnancy thanks to the GDM diet) which I think contributed to my milk never coming in. My son ended up getting dehydrated and our pediatrician told us to start him on formula immediately (at four days old) and the lactation consultants told me to try power pumping. It didn't work and the most I ever got was about 7 ounces total from both sides over an entire day. I tried pumping for three months and by the time I threw in the towel I was getting less than 1 ounce from both sides over an entire day. I felt like I had failed my son and like it had sabotaged our bonding because I became so anxious over everything that he ended up spending more time with my husband who was much calmer and a more soothing presence. To this day my son strongly prefers Daddy over me and I can't help but wonder if it has anything to do with my reaction to failing at breastfeeding. I still remember daily typing into Google, "Milk not in at 4 days...5 days...6 days...a week...8 days..." and losing hope each day. :-/

  • @cards10 How did I miss that you were an exclusive pumper! EPs are my heroes. I could not have done that.

@MLS6212 Oh your post brings tears to my eyes. I struggled with breastfeeding at first too and it made my PPD much worse. For the first year of her life, my daughter definitely preferred her dad and I wondered the same thing, if my stress about breastfeeding was palpable to her and hurt our bonding. But momma, you did not fail your baby. You did an amazing job in the face of a lot of challenges and that little one got every drop of your liquid gold. I've been obsessed with finding data on people who had issues with low supply and how they fair with subsequent babies and all the data I found suggest that it gets better with each subsequent pregnancy (we're not really sure why). Were you on Metformin for your GDM? Do you have any IR now? There's some evidence that metformin can help with supply issues. If you do want to try to BF again, it might be worth seeing if there is a breastfeeding medicine specialist in your area you could discuss your case with.

  • @MLS6212 I'm so sorry you went through that. The newborn stage is traumatic enough without struggling with even more on top of it. I've heard many stories of women being able to feed their second after struggling with their first. Every baby is different, and your concerns will likely make you even more vigilant to advocate for yourself and your baby. Also, parental preference often switches back and forth. Your son is likely to go through a stage where he prefers you more!

  • @garnetandgoldgrace
tl;dr version: twice a day for about 10-20 minutes.

Our consistent nursing is morning and bedtime. I don't usually time how long she nurses but it's not long, maybe 5 min a side. At bedtime, she might comfort nurse longer, like 20 minutes, on the 2nd side. She will still get up at night and nurse but it's so random it's hard to guess when. (She woke up last night). But she's getting to the point that when she wakes up she'll nurse briefly then just wants snuggles. She had been pretty consistently wanting to nurse in the afternoons if I'm home when she gets home from daycare, but the past couple of days she'll latch, suck twice and go run off to chase the dog, so I think she's dropping that session. I'll probably stop offering. With my super erratic schedule, I usually pump when I get home after she's gone to bed or in the mornings after an overnight if she's at daycare. I don't pump at work anymore except for 24 hr shifts. But I get very little. If I had to guess, I make between 5-8 oz a day. We're slowly going through some freezer stash for bedtime bottles when I'm working and I'll probably be out of stash by the time she's 20 months.

  • @MLS6212 that sounds like an incredibly tough situation! It's hard to see our babies struggling when they're so little and helpless. But like @fishsticks-n-custard said you in no way failed your baby. I think most mothers feel that way at some point. But I know you did the best you could given your challenges, we all have and will continue to do so, and that's amazing. Hopefully you won't have to deal with GDM again.

@fishsticks-n-custard and @MLS6212 I also often think DS prefers MH (as an infant I used to think it was the lack of BF bonding too and that I was often tied to a pump) but then I broke down and admitted that once and he said "Are you kidding?! That's how I feel. He totally likes you more!" So I think it's just perspective and maybe some insecurity. Your child loves you no matter what, while they're this little at least ;)  <3
  • @fishsticks-n-custard ha!!! I'd totally bring out my BSC side! My dog was the first one to notice with DS. She acted so crazy and didn't want to be near me! So whenever that happens again... I'll know! Crazy or not!  :D
