High risk?

Hey ladies!  I am currently about 6 weeks along.  This is my 3rd pregnancy.  My first ended in a d&c due to the baby having turners syndrome :(  my son was born at 33 weeks due to my pre eclampsia and spent a month in the nicu.  He is 6 and will be 7 at time of delivery!
Any other mommas have high risk pregnancies previously?  Hoping and praying for a completely different pregnancy this time around!  Feeling completely nervous and anxious!!!

I am considered high risk because of a clotting disorder. It's nerve wracking, but I try my best to think positive, sometimes I still catch myself in a deep worry though, especially the closer I get to delivery. I see my MFM in a week and a half.

TW- my first pregnancy ended in an early loss. With my second pregnancy, first baby, we used a midwife and opted out of prenatal testing. We had a surprise birth diagnosis of Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). Had we used an obgyn and done prenatal testing, I'm almost positive I would've been considered high risk. I ended up being induced at 36.5 weeks due to IUGR. She had been in 40-50th percentile and suddenly had dropped to the 2nd. This time around, I'll be using an OB because I know my chance of having another baby with T21 is increased, and with that comes an increased risk of stillbirth and other complications that scare me to death. We would welcome another baby with Down syndrome, but the added health risks that come along with it (congenital heart defects etc) can be scary. Anyway, I understand how you feel! I hope this pregnancy is stress free for you :)

I was high risk last pregnancy and will likely be this pregnancy as well, due to heterozygous factor V leiden (a clotting gene) and an unpredictable cervix possibly due to a LEEP procedure 5 years ago.

I have been wondering if we are going to start a high risk check in.  I am high risk bc my 14 year old was born at 25weeks due to incompetent cervix.  I will have a cerclage put in at 13 weeks.  This will be my fourth cerclage.  I will be monitored every two weeks by sono to check length after it goes in.  I am also AMA this go round, so I don't know if that will add to any additional testing.  I've always got the panorama, so I don't think so unless there is reason for concern.  Hopefully, not though.

I was high risk with DS. I bled at 12 weeks and found out I had placenta previa... the placenta was only partially covering the opening of the cervix, and it adjusted around 20 weeks, thank goodness. I am super scared that I will have it again but it will be worse this time. I also had very high blood pressure in the second half. I had to monitor my blood pressure at home several times a day. My last month of pregnancy I was sent to the hospital 7 times, all of which I was told I would likely deliver, and then it would calm down and I would go home. Finally I was induced the day before my due date, which was my 8th hospital visit in that last month!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this time is a much calmer, milder, boring pregnancy :-)

I am high risk because of my GD. It kicks in asap and I am going tomorrow to take the glucose tolerance test. I will most likely fail since I have the last 2 pregnancies and get to go to the dietician to get a glucose meter and diet counseling. Both of my other pregnancies I controlled it with diet and am hoping to do the same this time.

I am high risk due to my history of preterm labor and early delivery. My earliest was my last pregnancy, my water broke at 32 weeks, I was hospitalized for two weeks to try and hold off delivery/infection and then I was delivered at 34 weeks. My son spent 3 weeks in the NICU and that was really really hard on me. Having to leave your baby in the hospital is probably one of the saddest things ever. I am hoping things will be different this time :(

I had no idea I would be, but at my first appointment I was told that I am high risk. ++++TW++++ I seriously thought it was because of my age, but the doctor said it's because of my recent loss+++++end TW

I am restricted on lifting (I'm a nurse so I'll try but I'm pretty used to pushing, pulling, and lifting people), exercise, and even some safe medications. I'm taking progesterone and high dose folic acid. That's really it though. I have to go back for another ultrasound in two weeks and I'll have an official ultrasound at 12 weeks.

I'm not 100% sure if I'll be considered high risk, but I will have a lot of additional monitoring/testing done, especially come third tri due to having cholestasis of pregnancy the first time around. I'm anxious to hear what the midwife has to say at my first real appointment the end of August.

My last pregnancy was high risk for the first few weeks because I have gastroparesis, which can prevent me from gaining weight and absorbing nutrients. It can cause miscarriage due to lack of nutrients to the fetus. However, once they saw I gained a really good amount of weight by my first appointment, I was considered low risk. This time, the OB is doing the same, but my cardiologist wants me to be high risk because I had extra fluid around my heart during the last pregnancy. I'll find out soon whether they want me high risk or not. I think mine is a little different, though, because all that means for me is I'll be seeing a cardiologist several times throughout the pregnancy and getting an echo or two done to monitor my heart.

I've technically been high risk with all of my pregnancies, thanks to taking blood thinners. I don't take them normally, but do during each pregnancy. It's also meant that each delivery after my first was induced.

Hi OP - I also had preeclampsia with my first. I guess I kind of got "lucky" with it in that they didn't discover it until I was past my due date and baby was full term, though I think I had symptoms prior to when they figured it out (higher than normal blood pressure, rapid weight gain, swelling). It didn't go away with delivery and I developed HELLP, which was scary but thankfully everything worked out in the long run and I'm perfectly healthy now.  In hindsight I should have pushed for more testing on it - they didn't pick up the preeclampsia on the urine tests, it took a blood test for an unrelated thing for it to come to light.

This time around my doctor recommended taking a baby aspirin (81 mg) daily to help prevent it, so I recommend asking your doctor about doing that. I've seen recommendations to take calcium supplements and plan to ask my doctor about that. I'm also going to try to exercise a little more during pregnancy than I did with my first, though I'm not sure if that really affects anything (just want to feel healthier overall this time around).

My doctor also explained that the chances of preeclampsia are highest in the first pregnancy, though the chances of having it in subsequent pregnancies if you had it in your first are higher than someone who didn't have it in their first pregnancy. Still, my doctor didn't seem concerned about it, and I'm not considered high risk for now, it's just something we'll be mindful of and monitor more later in the pregnancy.

@chasingroygbiv I am high risk because of a clotting disorder, too. Factor 5 Leiden. Are you on anti-coagulants?

@isntthatspeshul I have the same thing! Any advice on dealing with this? It's my first pregnancy and it makes me nervous!

@crossfitbabybump FVL here, too. Heterozygous. With my first pregnancy I wasn't on anything during pregnancy or after. With our second recommendations changed and I was on Lovenox for 6 weeks postpartum. *TW* Throw a couple losses in there. Those didn't last on big enough to even find out what recommendations were. I see my MFM next week and will find out what this pregnancy brings, I am currently taking an aspirin a day due to recurrent pregnancy loss in CASE FVL is playing a role, but they don't think it is. I assume I will have to do the Lovenox shots postpartum again, but not sure if they'll have me do anything different during aside from the aspirin.

@crossfitbabybump  ACOG's recommendations for heterozygous FVL is monitoring and baby aspirin. I took it last pregnancy and had no issues. I believe it will be the same with this one, and will be confirming with my doctor on Thursday.

Here's some info that might help:

@chasingroygbiv I am so sorry to hear about your loss :(

But thank you for the advice! I am going to talk to my doctor about it on Friday. What annoys me is that she told me the moment I find out I'm pregnant, to give them a call so they can get me in right away to monitor the FVL but when I did, they didn't seem in any rush, which made me more nervous.

@isntthatspeshul thank you! I will be sure to ask about the baby aspirin. I took it on a regular basis before I got pregnant but wasn't sure. When I asked the lady at my OBGYN that scheduled my appointment she said to stop for now until they can do more testing.
