Panorama test inconclusive

Hey everybody. So I'm kind of freaking out. I had the Panorama genetic testing blood work done at 11.6 and it came back inconclusive, citing not enough fetal DNA as the cause. I'm 36 and overweight, but all my blood work pre-baby came back saying I'm in perfect health. I had a repeat test done today.  Has anybody else gone through this? Does anybody have any insight as to why this is happening and/or how to cope with the waiting?

Re: Panorama test inconclusive

  • I think there was another mom on our bmb with this issue... I guess it happens sometimes? I would just get it redrawn and also do the NT test in the meantime. Ppl were also saying some tests are more sensitive than others so you could try a different nipt test too.

  • I know it's hard to not worry, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. It just means there wasn't enough of baby's blood to test for what they needed. I haven't experienced that before, but I did take the Panorama test and did quite a bit of research on it.
  • @melsue18 I did some investigating when I thought this was happening to me (ended up being a courier issue). One thing I did find pretty consistently was that this happens MUCH more frequently when expectant moms are overweight (which is a positive in your case - it's often a test error, not a sign of anything bad). Also, a single inconclusive result is not worrisome. @clearlyclara 's suggestion of seeking out a different NIPT brand is something I came across as a recommendation quite a few times as well. I guess the different brands do somewhat different testing, so different tests may be more responsive to your body. If it were me and I were overweight, based on what I read, I would definitely do the NT scan (or at least talk to my doctor about it) because it can help eliminate some worries while you wait for results again, or at least get you some information. Either way, I'd ask to talk to my OB directly.

For the coping with the waiting, I wish I could help you! I am in a similar situation for a different type of test. @YarnistaBride gave me some good advice in the Questions and Concerns thread.

HUGE CAVEAT - there were my research findings after skimming a bunch of resources. I am NOT a professional! Only answering because I don't want you to have to go down the rabbit hole I did. Hope it helps, but please take with a grain of salt.

melsue18  !!! I am the other mom that @clearlyclara is talking about. It totally sucks and I had a lot of emotions when hearing inconclusive. WTF?!

First, you and I are the exact same age and I am technically overweight as well (don't get me started ranting about BMI lol). My blood was drawn at about 11 weeks...(like just 11 weeks) and the results came back as "no results".  I was so upset I cried. And cursed. And cried and made up new curses.

I went for the redraw on July 6th (at 12.5 weeks) and am waiting to hear back from that sample (so much waiting with this baby making business). My Doc mentioned that because the first time was unsuccessful the redraw has an only 50-60% success rate. In my opinion, 50 - 60% is better than 0! What she did was set me up for all the appointments: NT scan, genetics counsellor (which I will cancel if the redraw successful), and a Prenatal Bio chemistry screen (a blood test done in two parts, one now and one at about 18 - 20 weeks).

I know exactly how you are feeling - being the same age and of similar body - and I need you to know that it's going to be okay - for both of us! Go for a redraw and request the NT scan. We just did the NT on Wednesday. It took a very long time, but hearing that it all looked great/okay was wonderful news.

Stay positive, @melsue18! We got this.

    xo
