  • @DDRRT1982 rest days are definitely a good idea to factor in! It makes the working out feel more sustainable sometimes, plus it's good for us  If you are a determined to stay active, I know it'll happen. You already know what it's like for the most part, so that should make it easier to push through the tough days!

@notthefather I am absolutely with you--there is 0% chance I will workout in the evening unless my training partners make me  The humidity is killing the outdoor runs, too. It wasn't even warm out this morning and the humidity just made it feel gross.

  • What are you doing to stay active during the first trimester? Running five days a week with some light weight training

What is the greatest challenge so far? The heat it's so hot here !

What's your plan for the week to come?  Same try to run early mornings five times if it's too hot I'll go to the gym when DH gets home.

What are you doing to stay active during the first trimester?

now I am just walking 3 days a week for about an hour on the incline to at least still tone my legs up a little bit.
What is the greatest challenge so far?
getting over my tiredness and actually going
What's your plan for the week to come?
    more of about the same

  • @Ktjennks incline walking is my favorite! Easy on the joints, but I can feel it in my booty  Did your doctor recommend not lifting for health concerns?

  • @muggle621 I have shoulder issues, too! Kind of puts a kink in some good exercises! I tore my rotator cuff last fall playing volleyball against some of my former players. There's nothing like a stop-you-in-your-tracks injury to make you feel old as hell with your former high school athletes! I'll be sending you well wishes this week to get your goal checked off your list!! Keep after it, mama!

  • I was so exhausted this week that I took two rest days.  My stomach has also been giving me a run for my money.  I feel good today so I'm going to get back at it!  I've been walking 30 mins a day with intervals of inclines.  I also added in mins on the elliptical.  After I get that done, I do an arm workout.  I found a few good videos on YouTube to go along with.  The struggle is real with the exhaustion though!  I feel like I could nap after getting out of bed.  Hoping it changes soon!  I'll be going back to school soon!  Back to school is so soon eeeek!

This is one of my biggest issues right now. I was an avid hot yogi and was training to do a century bike ride next thursday. I know they say you can keep doing what you did before getting KU'd, but given history (see siggy) I am just so nervous to push myself too much physically and have decided to forego both. Plus EXHAUSTION. Like @rachaeles said, as soon as I get out of bed, I want to take a nap ha. Come on energy!

@LiveNLove44 I havent seen her yet I'll see her for my 8 week ultra on the 24th. I know it's fine to lift weights I have a friend who is 33 weeks and still doing crossfit! I think I'm just nervous to do any weights right now with it still being so early. Plus I'm a bit more lazy now  :D   . Incline is my favorite too!!! For those exact reasons!!

  • I just wanted to add that you women are seriously amazing in your fitness! Especially right now during this stage!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I do Crossfit, have been for 4 years now. I end up going to the gym in hopes of working out, only to be running to the bathroom during warm up to puke. I don't have the energy to even brush my hair anymore. I'm looking forward to the light at the end of this fatigue tunnel and getting back to it! (Obviously modified and going much lighter with the weights than before.)

My birthday is next week and the owner of my gym always lets you pick your own birthday WOD (workout of the day) so I am hoping I can at least keep everything down to participate in that. Happy 27th birthday to me, lol!

  • What are you doing to stay active during the first trimester? Running about 4-5 times a week for 30-45 minutes. I am also going to start barre fitness classes again. I went to them religiously a few months ago, but stopped because my teaching schedule became so insane. Now, I have a little more free time and I would like to start work on toning again, while I still can. I am hoping I can maintain some level of stamina to at least stick with the classes over the next 2-3 months or longer. We shall see...

What is the greatest challenge so far? The heat for running! Recently, I have had to run at the gym, which I do not like. Also, I am starting to feel a little more fatigued.  :/

What's your plan for the week to come? I plan to run at least 4 days out the week and attend 3 barre classes. **finger crossed!**
  • I'm so glad to see others have the same struggles as me. Not that I'm happy you're struggling, but that I'm not alone.

I worked really hard to lose 30lbs last year and I'm having a lot of anxiety about gaining unnecessarily. I was also so sick during my last pregnancy that I only netted 10lbs by the time I gave birth.  I'm afraid I have that same expectation this time even though I know it's not normal at all.

  • I teach water aerobics and it's the best!! I def wouldn't go if it weren't for the accountability bc I'm just so tired, but I'm glad to have this.

    You Ladies are amazing!

A big difference in this pregnancy and last, I'm eating very differently. I'm truly eating for fuel and health, then I also eat whatever I want, if I want it...Which is rare bc I just want to sleep instead.
  • Went to barre class for the first time in a long time yesterday. It was so miserably GOOD! lol. Woohoo!!! I'll do some light cardio later today either at the gym or outside once it cools down. It's already boiling!
  • @GeekBeagle how did the 5k go yesterday??

  • @LiveNLove44 that's so cool! I'm impressed!
  • Thank you, @heatherdubrow! There's something about those little voices that gets ya right in the feels! It doesn't quite trump the feeling I had when she came to one of my graduation ceremonies and she yelled, "Way to go, mommy!" over the crowd. That moment was gold. Close though  I really like having them see mom and dad work hard for something and achieve our personal goals. I hope it makes them feel empowered to do the same with whatever they love as they grow up!!

  • Sorry that I'm late this week...

What are you doing to stay active during the first trimester?
Trying to get my steps in, in between the nausea. I have been slacking on the yoga since I've been at my parents.

What is the greatest challenge so far?
The all-day-nausea hit me hard last Wednesday and I forgot how bad it was... My motivation is suffering. I also forgot all about humidity so my goals of walking in the evenings aren't going so well either.

What's your plan for the week to come?
Baby steps. Headed to the mall Monday to get some steps in. And I'm going to try to knock out my yoga three nights this week.

Most of you are putting me to shame! Wow.
  • @mdfarmchick, the humidity is sucking the life out of my outdoor options, too! The mall is a good idea! I might have to take the kids for a few laps tomorrow to get their energy out and so I can stretch my legs. Take it easy on yourself--every day is a new day!

  • @LiveNLove44 It was so fun! I just walked it with my friend that doesn't run, but with the heat and humidity that was enough! We also had our sons with us so pushed strollers the whole time. And there were kids' activities after, so they had fun, too. Thanks for asking!
  • Soooo.... Yea... I didn't work out today. Lol. I layed around, did a little grading, and watched Shahs of Sunset. Hahahaha!!! Today, I felt weird... Not fatigued, but very low energy, hungry, absent minded, and my stomach felt a bit weird. Not crampy and not all the way nasuea. Just strange....

But tomorrow is a new day! Running in the morning and barre class with a friend in the afternoon. Today just wasn't my day. Baby was kicking my butt!

Im moving into my sixth week so I'm interested to see how my body responds relative to my working out, or lack thereof. Lol.
  • Ok, I need help.  I was really athletic until the last few days.  My energy is nothing and this is the worst nausea I have ever felt.  Can I get some insight on what you guys are doing to fight this and still workout?  There is no way I can run, but I did the bike.  I currently just bumping at the gym right now.  I feel like crap.  What are you guys doing?
  • @DDRRT1982: I'm sorry you're so miserable. Maybe it's a good idea to give yourself some recovery time. Since you're so sick I'd be worried about not giving your body enough fuel and water to excercise. If you're really adamant about it, I would just try walking until you feel better. This stage won't last forever. Even if you need to take a break now, you can ease back in once your body adjusts. Hope you feel better!

  • @DDRRT1982 I found that if I get up and have a piece of toast or a few crackers and then go workout, I don't feel as yucky. I toned down my cardio and I keep it steady state and comfortable. I know this sounds silly, but have you tried distracting your senses at all? If your MS is really bad, it probably won't make a difference, but it's worth a shot! Make a new playlist of your current favorites, put your socks and shoes on, and walk or bike for some you time. Sometimes I can trick myself into a decent workout with a great playlist, and I swear music has a physical effect on me!

Overall, @notthefather is totally right; give yourself time. Maybe just every-other day is a gym day. Find a good balance. Each trimester brings with it a different challenge, so if you can work through the fatigue and the yucks of this trimester, you're going to make it physically easier on yourself as your belly grows, too. Just find your "right" balance! Sending a boost of energy your way!

Thanks for the ideas.  I just don't want to lose the momentum I had going into this pregnancy.  I like the playlist idea.  I thought about going to buy new workout clothes, so I can feel excited about going when I don't feel great.  I do probably need to just be objective and give myself some slack.  You are right this doesn't last forever.  Thanks for some insight and ideas.
