Ongoing soreness from PIO injection site, after stopping injections

Has anyone experienced this?

All my PIO shots went to the same area on both sides of my hips/backside.  We had the nurse draw circles for us.  

They got way sore during the injections, and I had constant knots under my skin.  Now, the knots have healed, but the skin there still feels weird.  A little sore, a little numb.  Definitely different.

Is this common?  If you're experienced it, does it go away?  I've been off the injections for about 4 weeks.

I've been finished with my injections for 11.5 weeks and I still have a slight soreness and numbing sensation.  The numbness actually runs down my legs a little.  It has gotten better as time has gone on.  I was also on delestrogen every third night.  I've just thought it was normal since I had so many injections in a 10ish week period.  Interested in what others have to say..

I had the same thing happen after I stopped PIO shots for awhile. For weeks it continued to be sore/numb in the same area as where the needle went and even shot down my leg at times. I mentioned it to my doctor and they believed it was actually my sciatic nerve being pressed on early on in my pregnancy from the changes happening in my body, not from the PIO shots.

Yup. I've been off injections for over 10 weeks now and I still have little sore spots. I'm thinking it must be scar tissue or something. It's not bothersome unless I press directly on them. But yea, youre not alone!

I've had lower back pain where those shots were since I went off the PIO. The numbness is also present but has migrated some to my hips also. I'm attributing it to both the PIO and the pregnancy. Hips spreading/nerves moving etc plus sleeping on my sides exclusively at this point.

I get some phantom PIO pains every now and then, but they aren't too bad.

This is very common. My RE nurse told me that there can be mild nerve damage that takes a long time to heal. While the soreness went away after a few months, I still have slight numbness/itching sensations in those areas to this day!

@KLake42 I was doing PIO for about 1.5 months. Last shot was on March 7th. The numbness started few days before my last shot and 4.5 months later I still have numbness in both upper outer thighs! (I didn't do the shots on my thighs. But I guess the nerve in the butt goes to the thighs)  It is much better now than 4.5 months ago. But it is still there. 

In about one week I will have to start PIO again in preparation for my next FET and im really afraid it will get much worse.

I had a bit of nerve damage as well from them. My baby is 7 months now and I don't feel anything at all. It did take a good three or four months for it to heal but it did def go away. Just with time. :-) it was a bit scary though.

I'm really glad to hear that I'm not alone in this, and that it eventually heals!  I know there are other areas of the body for IM injections (thighs).  I wonder why REs don't encourage us to mix up the locations a bit more.  Maybe some of us have chubbier thighs (I know I do) so it might not work for everyone.

@KLake42 my numbness is in the outter upper thighs. But I actually inject in the butt. 

Since im doing the injections on my own I first asked if I can do it in the thighs and the nurse at my clinic told me I shouldn't because it's more painful than in the butt.

The butt shots didn't hurt too much at first, but after a few weeks, when everything was sore, I was cussing like crazy every time the needle went back in.

@KLake42 for me it depended on the day. Some days didn't hurt at all and some did. Not looking forward to start it again next week. But hope I will keep it up for 3 months this time around
