edited July 2017 in Pregnant after IF

Happy Monday ladies!!!

How was everyones weekend?

This is a weekly check-in for those in their 2nd trimester: weeks 14 through the end of week 27.

Congrats to all the strong ladies who have made it this far! It's such a great feeling and we've all accomplished so much! We are now 1 week closer to the end of this especially long journey we call "infertility."

Please post below a little about yourself, how many beans you have growing inside, if you have found out the sex(es) and what your EDD is. Please also let us know how far you've made it on your journey and when your next appointment is and what for. If I'm missing anyone from this list, or you are new to the 2nd tri, please let me know and I will add you.

Please let us know when you have graduated to 3rd trimester so that I can update our list!

Re: 2nd Trimester Check In: Week of July 3rd

  • Hi all. I'm 15 weeks with a singleton due on Christmas. The dry heaving is much better and the nausea is getting there though the food aversions are back in full swing so finding stuff to eat has been challenging.

QOTW#1: What are/were your plans for the Independence Day/Canada Day? I think it will be a low key day. We will probably take the twins to the pool and we are going to a cook out at a friends house. If I have the energy I'm hoping to go to a local state park for a walk/hike

QOTW#2: Do you have fur children? If so, tell us about them! I do! I have 2 cats. My old lady has been with me for 16 years and I love her beyond words. She is grey with the most amazing emerald eyes and white hair in her armpits. We have a 2 year old black cat who is such a ham.  We also have an almost 2 year old lab/blue healer mix. She is so sweet and patient with the twins, though she is the biggest bed hog! (she may have to sleep in her dog bed when I'm super pregnant because between her and DH I am trapped between two hot boxes!

Hello! Sorry for the late post, DH has been needing around with our internet servers and I couldn't connect this morning.

How was everyones weekend? We worked a little more on the nursery, and got rid of junk which is one of my favorite things to do.  :D I started getting heart palpitations more frequently this weekend, and the doc said it is common in pregnancy but to just take it easy for the rest of the week. I think we finally found the perfect medicine combination for one of our dogs (Sophie) for her severe anxiety, and I am so relieved because she has been terrified with the fireworks.

QOTW1: We are going to a BBQ tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to just hanging out with friends/family and eating all of their food.  :p

QOTW2: We have 3 dogs and 2 cats. They are all quirky and make life interesting.

No matter what we do, our dog Scooby will end up on the bed. We are pretty sure he thinks he is human.

When I read your description I thought he sounded like your cat! He is a Russian Blue and they have the most unique personality.

  • @wabash15 ugh hope the food aversions get better! Hope you can relax a bit on the long weekend :)

@ChocolateIsLife love love your nursery, that color is gorgeous! Beautiful fur babies too :)

We had a bonus ultrasound this last week, just to see everything (baby was hiding his face last time). All looked good! He's measuring big still, my daughter was almost 9 lbs so just gearing up for a big boy! Almost 23 weeks, it's flying! I've started getting heartburn and feeling sick if I eat too big of a meal, but otherwise feeling good.

QOTW we're in South Carolina visiting family, so I'll be in the pool ha! it's been nice to visit with family but I'm wiped, I can't do late nights. Luckily my inlaws are great with my daughter so I can relax a bit while they play.

other question, I have a 9 year old bichon shihtzu mix, we ADORE him. My daughter loves him a bit too much and tries to carry him around :)

  • @chocolateislife I think she is a Russian blue. she was a stray that was hit by a car and brought into the vet clinic I was working at at the time. The woman who found her paid for her surgery but couldn't keep her so she's been with me for the last 16 years. I think they are such cool cats. She definitively has personality
@PolythenePam glad to hear your doing well. I hope you enjoy the pool!

  • Apologies for my long abscence... it's been 5 weeks since I checked in & have a ton to catch up on! @ChocolateIsLife could you add me to the 2nd tri? EDD Dec 8th with a girl :)

We just got back from a 4 week camping road trip through Washington and oregon... What gorgeous country! Camping when pregnant was absolutely fine... but I think I got lucky with my timing: my nausea ended before I left, so fatigue and allergies were the main issue.

I feel pretty good these days - my appetite is back with a vengeance, which is pretty fun, provided I have food on my person at all times... things get ugly quickly if I have to wait to eat though! DH is learning to not touch my plate ;)

I think I felt her move this week - a rolling sensation just above my pubic symphosis. But that may just be my imag@chocolate_pearl

QOTW 1: We hung out on our floating dock with family for Canada day - then were to an open air orchestra for the evening. Pretty magical!

QOTW 2: no fit babies for me... I have asthma. I can pet puppies if I use my toes, which they dont seem to mind!

@ChocolateIsLife your nursery is beautiful - can I move in?!

    @Polythene Pam enjoy the pool!

@wabash15 oh gosh I am so glad that woman brought her in and paid for her surgery, and that you adopted her! She is a lucky lady. :)

@mountainlady-2 welcome to 2nd Trimester!!!! I updated the sheet so you are on it. Your camping trip sounds amazing! I just got back from there late May, and didn't want to leave.

Hi everyone- I'm 20w5d today. And not feeling so great. :( Since Sunday night I've had a dull ache/cramp in my lower abdomen and I'm really not sure what it is. I was in MD visiting friends until yesterday morning and I decided to come home a bit early and see the dr. She did a cervical exam (yay) and said everything looked good. She thinks it's round ligament pain. I always thought RLP was more sporadic and sharp- like I'd feel a stabbing pain if I stood up too quickly (which I have felt in the past). I think it could possibly be bad gas/constipation because it feels like if I had a good "bathroom session" it would feel better. So frustrating to not be able to tell what's what down there. Everything is just so smooshed.

However, the other thing that leads me to believe it may be the uterus is the time it started hurting- Sunday night. All early Sunday evening I was playing around with my friend's 4mo old baby (who weighs 15lbs) tossing him in the air and toting him around the house. Maybe that was a little too much exertion? But I distinctly remember the pain starting right after I put him to bed. I dunno- what do you guys think?

QOTW 1: I'm back home now, and the original plan was to hang out with DH and my mom for a small cookout, but given how I'm feeling I'm not sure. Maybe just taking it easy today.

QOTW 2: We have 2 furbabies! I love them so much. This might sound weird, but does anyone else worry they'll feel neglected once baby is here? I want to love them all equally! We have an Australian Shepherd named Phoenix (aka Phoenie), and a cute lil tabby named Harley. They get along very well.

  • Hi ladies! I'm 27+5 with the little girl today, so it's my last post in 2nd tri, so I will be saying bye for now and looking forward to seeing you all in the 3rd tri board soon.

Next appt is glucose test on 7/18. I've been enjoying some decadent vacation food the past few days but am really focusing on reining it in for the 3rd trimester.

QOTW1: DH and I are in Maine with my family for the holiday--our official last trip as a party of 2. We kayaked around the bay this morning and will be exploring 4th of July festivities around the town today before fireworks at the harbor.

QOTW2: Oh Lord, I have a menagerie: 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a boatload (2 tanks) of tropical fish. Our dogs are an 8 year old Rottweiler and a 1.5 year old pit mix puppy, and the cats are a sweet old fluffy black female and an utterly insane huge orange male. Here are the pups:

  • Hi! I'm 14 weeks today! EDD 1/2, mo/di twins (so in reality, likely to be December babies).

Is the nausea supposed to stop today? Not sure it got the memo.

I'm being lazy today. Tomorrow will be a long day at work, so I should rest while I can.  I get so nauseated in the evening, I've made no fireworks plans.

I have the weirdest little poodly mutt I found at the pound. She's not sure that she's a dog, and she hardly ever barks.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • 16+2 with di/di twins

Pretty sure that I've felt the babies at this point. Still can't quite tell what is babies and what is gas but feeling something new down there when I lay down.

We have no plans today but to grill our dinner and lay in the pool. Salad, boiled baby potatoes, corn on the grill, and red meat. If we would of had yesterday off our plans might of been more elaborate.  Oh well.

We have two fur babies, two all black/green eyed stray kitties that we took in over Halloween two years ago. They are boy/girl siblings. When the male jumped into my car one morning and looked up at me from below the steering wheel like, "Where are we going Mom" I knew we would be taking them in. They were probably about 4-5 months old when we took them in. Got them spayed/neutered, chipped, and shots. Don't regret it at all.

We want a dog but now that the twins are happening we've decided to postpone until the twins are a year old or so and then get a puppy so they can grow up together.

I've got some second trimester headaches lately. Ugh.
  • Hello again! 22 weeks today with our boy.  We've picked out a name and we aren't keeping it a secret because why bother and because it comes from family names (my late father and DH's father), so people are starting to call him by his name and it all of a sudden got so real lol.  I've also been feeling hella movement this week; this kid is kicking the crap out of me all of a sudden.  DH was able to feel him kick over the weekend, too, just one good one but it was still cool.  Going back to the dr tomorrow for another u/s for spinal views; nothing scary or anything, just couldn't get good spine views at the anatomy scan so they wanted to do another follow up, and I'm not gonna complain about another u/s.

QOTW1: We had bbq's all weekend, just typical stuff.  And DH got to hang out with his brother and nephew a bit, so I treated myself to a pedicure since it's getting harder and harder to reach my feet these days.  I was also part of one of the government shutdowns, so I had an unexpected 4 day weekend, which was nice, except I likely won't get paid for the day, which kinda sucks, but at least it was only 1 day.

QOTW2: We have an aging cat and several fish, but that's it for now.  We both want a (big) dog, but it just hasn't been practical with our work and travel schedules; we'd hate to get a dog, then have to cage or kennel it most of the time, it's not fair to the dog.  DH also has a thing for high maintenance pets; he'd love another cockatoo or large bird, and he really wants a saltwater/tropical fish tank, but those are all SO much work, I've basically said "until we can pay someone else to care for them, we're not having them."
  • Hello!  23 weeks and 1 day today.  Less than 1 week till viability!  Cant wait!

We have an appointment on Monday for the fetal echo.  My doctor's appointments from here on out are a bit funny - i will have at least 1 appt per week till the end of the pg with the exception of 1 week.  Feel like its starting to early!  But at least i can take the day off and relax for most appts.

QOTW1:  Just went to friend's house for a BBQ - the heat os really starting to get to me tho.  It gets hard to breathe when its so hot!  I found myself mostly indoors yesterday.

QOTW2:  no fur babies here.  Although all of your pics of your super cute fur babies make me want one!

  • @hopeby2015 ugh I know what you mean about the heat and it's hard to breathe.  I feel like for me it's worse when it's muggy than just when it's hot, but in the Northeast, you pretty much get muggy as soon as you get heat.  I felt bad staying mostly inside at the BBQ's, but I don't think anyone blamed me, it was just too sticky and muggy to be outdoors pregnant.
  • @sasha29-2 we were at a BBQ yesterday and I wasn't trying to be antisocial but I had to go and sit inside for a while because it was so hot outside. its amazing how pregnancy can make you so heat intolerant!
@lafemmeviolette Sorry your not feeling very well. I hope you just over did it since things looked good at the doctors. I worried about not being able to give my pets the attention they needed when the twins came (especially since my cats at the time were old and were our constant companions. So far they seem to be doing OK. My one cat was mad at me for a month or two but then forgave me. We have since added  a dog into the mix but I hope with the new babies the twins and DH will be able to occupy her when I can't.   I think sometimes it takes a bit to find the new groove but you do.
    @mountainlady-2 that trip sounds amazing!
@KLake42 I wish the nausea would turn off like a switch with the transition to 2nd trimester but it will gradually get better.

  • I'm happy to say I'm feeling better today. I think maybe it was round ligament pain afterall. I did absolutely everything I could to ease the pain (dr-recommended heating pad in short intervals, bubble bath, rest, tylenol, yoga...) so maybe one of those things worked. Now I'm focusing more on preventing that from happening again, so perhaps making yoga/stretching a regular routine.

  • @LeFemmeViolette I think one trick to avoiding round ligament pain is to never, ever sneeze.  It's just a bad, bad thing for me.  I make all kinds of crazy faces to try to wiggle my nose and scare a potential sneeze away now.

  • @LeFemmeViolette and @KLake42 Sneezing= unglamorously trying to hold in the bump/bloat, it seems to help. I even do it in public and no longer care if people shoot me strange looks. I've caught myself twisting wrong a couple of times and the RLP immediately told me that was stupid, then I deal with dull pain there for a couple of hours.

@LeFemmeViolette I'm glad that you had a rest and are feeling better. Discovering our new limits is kinda annoying, but soooo worth it in the end. : )
  • @KLake42 & @stella_700 haha the sneezing dance! I had awful allergies for a few weeks and made my DH crack up trying to contort myself into a position that avoided it!

@LeFemmeViolette good job following all the advice - And even better that it worked!

  • @stella_700 LOL sneezing is the WORST. Between peeing a little every time (I don't care how many Kegels I do, when this kid is using my already-small bladder as a pillow, I have to seriously clench before a sneeze to be able to keep it all in) the RLP, then feeling like I've pulled a muscle, sneezing is for the birds. I promise I was once someone who was in good shape; now I sneeze wrong and I'm laid up for a couple hours. I haven't much minded being pregnant, but I'm going to be one of those people who's more than ready to be done with it by the end, too.
  • @sasha29-2 While I haven't had any leakage yet, I know its coming. The ultrasounds last week showed one of the twins parked right over my bladder, like the doctor had issues getting good images of the second baby because it was sitting so low. It made me feel better knowing the reason I can only pee in little bits is due to one the babies and not an infection.

While I wasn't in awesome shape before infertility treatments I feel like I'm contributing nothing to the household right now but going to work and going home and sitting.  DH is constantly telling me to slow down. I'm thinking to myself, if I slow down anymore I'll begin to have things grow on me! Also I was asleep before the sun went down completely last night. :D

  • @stella_700 @sasha29-2 @KLake42 @mountainlady-2
Ha! I've noticed that I actually have a harder time getting a sneeze to actually come out. Between the RLP and surprise pee-leaks, I think my brain tries to keep me from actually sneezing- which is frustrating! And then of course when I do it hurts a bit. Oh the joys of being pregnant lol!

  • Hi ladies! Sorry I'm so late to this week's update! I am 15 weeks today and stilllll having nausea and dry heaving. We had a follow up to our CVS testing yesterday and both babies have all the appropriate organs and bones and are growing. One baby is still small, but growing. Doctor seemed to think it was okay for now and we'll go back in four weeks for another scan.

QOTW#1: We were in England for the 4th and we went to Stonehenge and Bath. It was amazing!

QOTW#2: When we moved to Qatar we re-homed out puppy and two kitties. We miss them, but they are in great new homes!

  • I keep working on my post for this week and keep getting distracted by work.

@wabash15 I have a russian blue too! He was found inside of a car engine at the hospital I was working at, the valet guys were taking him to the cafeteria to get him some milk and I happened to be walking past. They asked if I "liked cats" I said yes. They then showed me this tiny, grey kitten sleeping inside a coat pocket and asked if I wanted him. How could I say no?? I had to teach him how to clean himself and he has never quite figured out that he's not a human (even though I have another cat, who is very cat-like, doesn't need human attention, etc.). He's been my little buddy for 10 years now and I couldn't imagine life without him.

We are 18 weeks tomorrow. I can't believe how fast this second trimester is going! We've had a week of 85+ degree temps and the swamp-crotch/thigh sweat is REAL. I can't remember the last time I got through the day without feeling like I sat in a puddle (I doubt i'll ever be able to tell if i'm leaking urine). How i will avoid yeast infections at this point is beyond me, i'm just expecting it now. A close friend had her baby over the holiday and it's just made me SOOOOO impatient to meet this little guy. Although the laundry list of things to do before baby comes still seems never ending.

@LeFemmeViolette I had some round ligament pain a few weeks ago and was not prepared for how sharp/stabby it would be! Nothing seemed to make it worse or better and it went away after about a week (hopefully to never return!), hopefully yours goes away soon!

  • @PoeMasque thats crazy that there are 3 of us with russian blues!
@takethelongway I'm glad both your peanuts are looking ok even if one is a little smaller. with my twins my DD was often smaller (at one point there was a big enough difference that there was some concern) but she caught back up and was healthy at birth. I hope the same thing  happens for you

  • @takethelongway a friend of mine had boy/girl twins and her DD was always way smaller. They are turning 2 in a week and she is still tiny compared to her twin brother and there are zero concerns about that. Unless they are identical, twins are literally two different babies in every way, so disparities in size are perfectly normal :)
