Y'all completely have me convinced on baby wearing now!!! I never thought too seriously about it until this board. Some of you have mentioned back problems. I have a chronic back issue and looking to see which one you guys recommend most?
@babypi Like @NME44 suggested, look into an onbuhimo! I haven't tried one yet, but am thinking of buying a Lenny Lamb one because a lot of stores have them marked down 30% right now!

Edited because dumb auto correct!
You can take this with a grain of salt, because I am a wrapper at heart, but I do think woven wraps would give you the support you need (as you can do carries with multiple passes which provide more and more support) and the versitility you need (one day a specific carry might feel better than another, and the next it might change.)
usually people start out with front wrap cross carry (which, honestly with a newborn would be fine for you...as the baby grows it might start to strain, though) but the most supportive front carry I've ever tried was front double hammock.
There are youtube tube videos for all of these carries. Just type the name of the carry in the search bar and you can watch so many different people showing you how, lol!
@NME44 thanks so much for the info!! I greatly appreciate it!!! I did find a local babywearing group that had education classes, try on, and even a lending library!!! I'm going to start going!

So I put a lillebaby and an ergo 360 on my registry. I also want to get a Ktan wrap. Maybe I'm going overboard here. I love the liilebaby because when the kid is facing out, they have a full range of motion with their arms, but I hate the way the back looks - it's so utilitarian. I like the way the Ergo looks way more, but maybe that's a stupid reason to get it. I'm going to try both and return the one I don't like I guess.

We started with 1 Tula (for me), 1 Ergo (DH's carrier) and a k'tan (also for me.) It's nice not to have to readjust the sizing to share with DH. The k'tan served a totally different purpose than the SSCs as well. Not overboard, IMO!
I'm so thankful for this thread!!! 7 years ago when my ds was born, Ergo's were everything. I had no idea there were so many other options now and can't wait to look into them. Thank you for all this info!

I wanted to second (or third) going to a local babywearing group to try different wraps and carriers. I started with an ergo and a Moby since I had used both and loved them while babysitting my nephew. After having my daughter and going to a babywearing meeting near me, though, I opted for a becco gemini and a ring sling (which I made myself but is based on the Sakura model). Both were so much more comfortable for me! If you go to a meet up pre-baby, some women might let you try a carrier or wrap with their baby! The group near me also allows rentals (I think for four weeks).
I texted DH's cousin to see what baby carrier they have since they use it all the time. They have the Ergo 360, but she said they used a K'tan when their babies were little (their youngest isn't five months yet and he's always in the Ergo--does the K'tan really not last that long???) and said she'd give it to us! Hopefully it's the right size. Also, I had assumed you had to tie the K'tan, so I was pleasantly surprised when I learned you don't!
MJDsquared Exceeding your comfort limit will come long before a baby will meet the weight limit in a k'tan. They're good for little squishies, but they aren't super supportive. In my experience, the bigger DS got the less secure I felt he was, no matter the finish. I think they're a really good intro to baby wearing thing, though!
@flowerpower5838, they have more than just size 3. Size 3 is the automatically filled size, but you click that box and it gives you the different size options.
ETA: although I do see now that most of the wraps only have size 3 as an option. There are still a few that have 5s and 6s, though!
NME44 I am not showing any of the wraps that I clicked on had larger than a 3! If you saw one that was being offered through the warehouse sale that did let me know pretty please!
@NME44 and @leighaw91 Thanks for the recommendations!! I have been traveling for the holiday and hadn't checked in for a few days, but I looked at the onbuhimo today and it looks great. From the reviews I've been reading, it looks like it will extend the amount of time I can front carry as well, which is great! I ordered one and can't wait to try it out.
@jackiesmom324 The article you linked to is a really interesting read. I got interrupted while reading it, but I'd love to discuss it once I get to finish it!
I wore DS a lot since he frequently fell asleep while attached to me. It was nice being able to pop into Target, strap on a baby that was ready to nap, and shop in peace for a little while. We tried a number of carriers. We started with the K'Tan in mesh but it didn't work out...I don't think I was confident enough with it. I got an Ergo 360 which got lots of use but it was hot hot hot (FL resident here). I got a mesh Lillebaby which I loved and sold the Ergo. Then I started to get sucked into the Tula world and bought a few of those before my husband realized and made me downsize the stash. I kept the Lillebaby since it can do a few things the Tula can't: accommodate a newborn without an insert, forward face, is all mesh, and comes with a back support. The new Tulas can do those things (Free to grows for newborns, and coast designs for mesh) though. I also kept my most favorite Tula...an Andy's room with custom Rex/Toy Story accessories.
After fretting about carriers for so long, I was trying to decide between the Ergo 360 and the Lillebaby. At Target today they had Ergos and a Lillebaby All Seasons on display, so I looked up the All Seasons on Amazon annnd they had a penguin print one and that's how I decided which carrier to register for. No shame in my game. (If you couldn't tell by my picture/ridiculous decision making logic, I love penguins.)
So much great info on this thread!! Has anyone tried the MiaMily Hipster Plus? I've been reading a lot about it and I'm very intrigued. I love that it has a hip seat that can be detached and used separately.
@nme44 I did not. I wasn't a huge fan of the wraps in a bigger size, but it has unearthed my babywearing desire so I am going to hop back on the BW on a budget group on FB and keep my eye out for something!
We have a few carriers. I have a LL(Lenny Lamb) ringsling for when baby is tiny and a stretch wrap I made myself. But I'm a huge fan of the Tula and my wovens. I prefer the wovens when they are a little bigger but not walking. Tula all the way after walking, because it's quick and E wanted up and down all the time.
I will say, I know Tula is a lot of hype, and it used to be about exclusivity of prints etc, but the ergonomic part of it was so much better than most of the other carriers. I do like the KP as well, but just have never bought one.
The BWI by my house let me trying and test and even helped me when it came to back wrapping. They really are such a great resource.
Tula people. Is the craze mainly because of all the fabric / pattern options? Or is the carrier ITSELF that great?
We have an ergo (original) from DS that we like a lot and plan to continue using. We have a wrap similar to the Moby which I only manage to use while LO is very small since it does have some stretchiness to it.
I'm really trying to watch my budget and not get sucked down the hole of buying 100 baby carriers...

@anewadventure, I'm not a "Tula people" but I really don't think it's any better than an Ergo, except that it does come in toddler size for when they're bigger. I would recommend going to a babywearing meeting local to you and seeing what you like best before buying. There's really no rush to get anything.
I will say im intrigued by their new model that grows with the baby, though. I think that could be incredibly useful.
